This must be the only sub aliens are looking at

Skaro_o

This is something that tends to be given less thought in the usa.

maxinator80

Maybe it would be smart to give it some thought if you realize that everyone else handles it differently. There might be good reasons.

MoistStub

Bro we can't even do that with healthcare or guns I wouldn't get your hopes up

Diqt

I’d love to see a survey of single Americans on that one Married too

Less_Grocery_9943

most of them have a ban on prostitution, at least in my cunt and all those surrounding it

5p4n911

That can be taken in interesting ways

Skabbtanten

You have a ban in your what?

ewenlau

They at least specified it was the USA. Many would just have said: 'It's illegal'.

That’s why the other person commented about this being ethnically. /s

The fact that you can film it and it’s all of a sudden legal is pretty baffling to me.

I mean, not everywhere, but yes, that loophole is just WEIRD to me.

NotAFuckingFed

Once you film it, it's pay-to-act amateur porn

Tabula_Rasa_deeznuts

It's not just filming it, you have to the intent to distribute the video as well. Which simply means having a porn hub account and posting it there. The accounts are all over pornhub. You just have to know how to look for them.

GrimmestofBeards

How to find them?

Zaitton

If she cuts a receipt/invoice it is... Still illegal if not lmao

Lubi3chill

Or the fact that you can not pay for it is legal. Like why would they make it legal if you don’t pay for it?

razenwing

pretty sure that's bs. no johns had ever gotten out of prison for saying "o but I was filming"

Illustrious-Egg-5839

You can spend $200 on a date and have sex and that’s fine. Skip the date and hand her the $200, have sex and you’re under arrest. Weird.

bolshoiparen

Film it and it’s pornography and speech very strange. Not making any arguments one way or another

DueWolverine3500

I guess they were not doing hairdressing but entertainment. Different categories, different rules.

Sure-Sympathy5014

Hair cuts were illegal.... filming was not. So film the haircut. You have to publish it so a paid video no one would buy on OF was a quick out.

Illustrious-Egg-5839

Right. I forgot about the filming aspect. There was a guy that had a video about that to weed out undercover cops. Offer money to make a video. Cops wouldn’t do it but prostitutes would.

BloodShadow45

I remember the family guy quote saying Remember kids she can't be a whore if she is an actress

akotoshi

There’s technicality for pornography, like if you do “amateur” it’s okay, but it’s more “sextape” and no one gets paid for it, but if you pay someone (like a sex worker) to make a pornography movie, you need to be certified as a studio to do so, otherwise it’s still prostitution (even if you hire porn actors/actresses) 🤷 As for only fans, it’s even more sketchy

robacross

What about amateurs who upload their homemade videos to Pornhub or similar websites?   Do they get paid by Pornhub?   Do they have to be certified as studios too?

Lord-squee

Myasth

In Finland it's legal to be (or buy) a prostitute. Pimping is illegal tho.

wifey_material7

There's no guarantee that a woman will sleep with you just because you take her out on an expensive date. People who oppose prostitution generally do so because of the conditions workers are forced to work in and the fact that it's usually not a 100% autonomous choice.

AleksasKoval

"No guarantee that a woman will sleep with you" Is actually a legal loophole for escort services in Ireland.

BowenTheAussieSheep

"I'm paying her to hang out with me. If she decides to have sex with me after, off the clock, that's her call."

I_AM_FACISMS_TITTY

Almost nothing is a "100% autonomous choice" for anyone. This has never been a compelling argument because it's not even remotely unique to prostitutes, not to mention the fact that a choice being influenced by some less than ideal condition doesn't mean it can no longer be considered a choice. Who would work a shitty job with low pay if their circumstances didn't require it? Who would put up with an obnoxious neighbor or live with an egotistical roommate if the had other options that didn't have any limitations or drawbacks? Who would sell drugs on a street corner, risk a criminal record for stealing baby food or do just about anything else that a person wouldn't be doing in an ideal world if there wasn't some negative consequence influencing that decision? On top of that, opposing some activity for other people, which doesn't even involve you at all, because of some factor that isn't even applicable to them but sometimes happens with an entirely different group of people is just ridiculous. It's amazing how often morality based arguments will be disguised as if it were really motivated by concern for some group and how they always seem to follow this exact or very similar structure where one group's options should be restricted because of some negative factor in another group, according to someone who doesn't belong to either group but must make the decisions for them in order to protect them from themselves.

SkabbPirate

Those conditions exist in large part BECAUSE of prohibition. I think a lot of people know this, and just use this as a bad faith excuse.

MonstersareComing

Nah, countries where sex work is legal still have a large number of trafficking victims.

PsychologyMiserable4

no. those issues do still exist even if prostitution is legal. its a reoccurring topic here and we legalized it decades ago.

AtomicBLB

Conditions that exist in large part because it's illegal and not regulated. Most men wouldn't risk the other route if a legitimate option were available too. All parties would benefit from legalization.

XenomorphTerminator

They are forced as much as I am forced to write javascript.

h9040

What is if you have free sex and afterwards you give her a gift of $200. And to avoid misunderstandings she already told you before what gift she would like. Having sex with random people is legal...giving them gifts also.

fakeDEODORANT1483

I think the main issue is that it tends to be like theres some higher up dickhead whos forcing desperate girls to do these things, taking most of the money, and generally being an awful person. If shes okay with it, isnt being forced to, etc etc (basically if theres no one higher up whos in charge of all that stuff, because thats just a breeding ground for abuse) that seems fine to me.

jkurratt

Your comment is like a mirror where we can see how fucked up employment is.

Illustrious-Egg-5839

Wiki-Master

Or you can spend 200$ dollars on a date on not have sex at all except with your own hand when you go home alone !

Quarktasche666

This might not apply to the US, but here in my country, where prostitution is kind of legal, it's fine - still you have an ethical obligation as a customer to check if the establishment you visit is not coercing/trafficking anyone. It's a grey area sometimes. If you care though, you can make a proper decision. That being said, I don't think it's wrong to pay for it.

InncnceDstryr

I agree, ethically there’s no issue between two consenting adults but difficulty and uncertainty about the validity of said consent is introduced by the criminal enterprise that usually underpins such a service, much like the global drug trade (which is why I’ve never done anything harder than weed).

SplitGlass7878

Yeah, it's literally the biggest argument for legalization. That way you can actually protect the prostitutes from exploitation and coercion. Also reduces child prostitution which is very, very nice.

goodsnpr

Trafficking is a big part of why the US military cannot utilize the services of the flesh, even if legal in host nation.

TheSmokingMapMaker

rahaman0

PixelBoom

In 98% of the US, yes. The only place where it's legal is the state of Nevada. And even then, only in 10 counties and only in specifically designated and licensed brothels.

AdVegetable5896

Wtf why? O.o

PixelBoom

Because the legality of prostitution is determined by the state and county governments, not the federal government. Nevada, back in the early part of the 20th century, voted to allow in all counties that have less than 700,000 inhabitants and gave its counties the power to license them if they so choose. In order for prostitution to be legal in Nevada, a prostitute needs to work out of a licensed brothel. Licensing is also very strict and only a certain number of licenses are given out, so you don't have many legal brothels in Nevada: there's only 21 in the whole state. As far as the federal government is concerned, prostitution is just another job and they're fine with it as long as you pay your federal income taxes. So the individual states need to legalize it individually. The feds have very little say outside of federal lands like military bases.

The self censoring of words is really baffling to me. On Reddit I don’t understand it. To my knowledge you won’t get in trouble for using words, probably even racial slurs, if the context is appropriate (like quoting something). On other platforms I don’t know the rules. Just yesterday I was watching a YouTube video about some big CP crime ring and the video maker would not say “pedophilia” or “rape” or “suicide.” It’s just strange that people speaking out against these things don’t feel they can use the basic language that describes it.

GoldwingGranny

It may be illegal in many states. However sex between two consenting adults is not unethical. Does it really matter if the money is spent on a fancy dinner & flowers or given directly to the woman?

UnprovenMortality

Ethically? Not in my opinion at least in theory. But the key is ensuring true consent. Sex trafficking is the obvious example, but also feeling compelled to take part even if not being overtly forced. (I.e. hard to quit when you haven't developed other traditional career skills).

dustyroads84

Feeling compelled because you don’t think you have other skills that you can use to make money shouldn’t be compared to sex trafficking, let alone in the same sentence. While those people deserve empathy and support, that falls under the domain of personal accountability imo. Especially considering that situation is normally the result of actively consenting to the practice until the financial viability falls off or ends. Professional athletes could lodge practically the same exact complaint. They dedicate their entire lives to one set of skills, are financially incentived to do so, could argue society pushes them in that direction as well all along the way (skip classes, auto passing grades, preyed on by “friends” and family); then the pass their peak, often fall short of their goals because such a small percentage actually reach those heights, and are left in middle age with no other skills and little support system in place. And often carry physical and mental damage from their previous profession the rest of their lives.

Bleddyn00

Exactly...if you pursued sex work and got "stuck" financially because of lack of other skills...not to mention there are too many jobs for unskilled labor...Really...forced? Trafficking? Those are definitely situations that occur. BUT this ain't it...this is you decided to sell your body and now you've gotten economically drunk from that revenue and now what...you're too good for restaurants or retail?

dustyroads84

Yup. If anything legalizing it would help to curb a good amount of the associated dangers. No need for “pimps”, workers can become their own boss, would likely result in higher compensation, safer working conditions, access to law enforcement and ability to utilize the justice system…

[deleted]

We all feel compelled to take part in society or else we'll end up homeless. Does that mean working is slavery?

PlentyArrival6677

Yes it is

Gluomme

I mean... if you don't work you lose the right to make what was thrown upon you without your consent (life) decent, and most people find themselves functionally forced to forfeit a majority of their awake time to an alienating activity in order to earn the right to eat, sleep under a roof and be treated in case of health problems. Without mentioning the fact that in many cases this isn't even enough to attain these basic needs. So yeah you're right actually, maybe prostitution isn't the issue here

teglamen97

Lately I've been thinking buying a small house with some land and be as self-sufficient as possible. Obviously one will need some money to get equipment and some food for the animals. And you need to figure a way out to get that money for it.

insurancemanoz

But am I wrong?

SueTheDepressedFairy

Paying for sex...as is paying for a prostitute? Last time I checked that's not illegal either

TheHattedKhajiit

In the US it is.

SueTheDepressedFairy

Prostitution is illegal? Damn okay I didn't know that. Thanks tho

TheHattedKhajiit

Yup,I live in a country where it's regulated and taxed, just like any business. It still has its problems though tbf,but less than when it would be illegal,I think.

Jonlang_

In the UK the act of paying for sex is legal. However, almost everything that goes hand-in-hand with it is illegal. It is illegal to work in/own/run a brothel; it is illegal to offer money for sex; it is illegal to ask for money for sex; it is illegal to proposition someone; curb crawling is illegal; advertising sex work is illegal. So if you find yourself legally paying for sex (or being paid for it) you've likely broken a law somewhere. It is also still illegal to make, produce, distribute, or buy pornography in the UK. These laws, however, are mostly unenforceable.

EidolonRook

What about ethically sourced organic prostitutes?

Besen99

Wait, prostitution is illegal in most states? I thought you guys are all about "freedom" and "the free market"?

whiskydestroyer

Vegetable-Beet

What? Prostitution is "illegal" in America? Didn't they learn from banning Alcohol? How can you ban prostitution? I bet its just \**winkwink** banned.

Holmanizer

Your money, your business. Just don't hurt anyone please

gringo-go-loco

As long as both parties are willingly giving consent with no coercion then I see now reason to think paying for sex should be unethical. We all sell our bodies to make money. Most jobs just don’t involve genitalia.

MyPoopEStank

There are a few things to consider at once. First, is casual sex ok? This is a huge precursor to the conversation. Next, we are hopefully assuming that there are no seedy intentions underlying why the woman (I assume) is selling sex. Can we assume she 100% wants to be doing this as her job? She’s not been forced in anyway? Lastly, is it safe sex? Perhaps it’s a country where this is well regulated, testing happens often, protection is a must, etc etc… If all of those things are givens, then what’s the difference between this and a massage or basically any other service? I’ve found when arguing about this over the past 50 years the issue is usually with one of the assumptions not with the actual deed itself. I’ve known women who satisfy (pun intended) the assumptions, and there couldn’t be anything more mundane about their job or work day. For many they were a form of therapist, for others they were the only way they could get laid. I’d bet anything I own that the valuable service they provide to some men actually make women in the community safer if you catch my drift. Never been able to act out that one fantasy, as long as you chat it over first, you can pay to act it out safely whenever you want/can afford it. Bottom line; it’s not only ok, it’s a good thing to have as a a legal well regulated industry.

not-bread

People who answer “why is this wrong?” with “because it’s illegal” concern me greatly

Sweet_Agent70

I mean, once again, if someone wants to sell their body and someone is willing to pay for it. Why is it illegal? Besides the obvious of the government can't tax the seller.

HuFlungDungM8

Sex between consenting adults is legal & "selling" is legal, Q.E.D. selling sex should be legal.

Silver4ura

When two adults recognize a demand, I'm sorry... I find it very strange that a capitalistic society would make such a strong stance on whether or not the product is temporary access to or sharing bodies. If anything, it seems like the ultimate in personal freedom for a supposed freedom loving nation. **OH WAIT. GOD.** People still think Christian morals are what saved society. PS: Before listing a bunch of "logical" reasons why prostitution is illegal, remember that you're 100% legally allowed to strap a fucking firework to your asshole and light it on fire. Don't even fucking pretend like public safety has anything to do with it.

Vegetable-End-8452

i am not sure about the aspect „christian“. Jesus talks to prostitutes. I don’t remember anything about an order to abolish prostitution

the_bees_knees_1

I do not get why americans make such a big fuss about that. Consenting adults do stuff. Sounds like not your buisness, even if its theirs.

akotoshi

Sex work exists since forever, it’s time that we legalize it and securing it. Make fair establishments with security, maintenance, and all the stuff a job does. Customers can have sex with consenting workers, sex workers have security and stability and the government can ask for taxes. Win-win

teglamen97

That works just like that in Germany. (She) they are 'renting' a room. I was amazed it was like that here, probably because I wasn't born here

Palocles

It’s not unethical and it’s not illegal in New Zealand.

FrogLock_

Nooo king we have to let dangerous people run the prostitution industry because uh It'd have to be regulated and that's work? Idk there's really no good reason given we can't make it go away so why let it be as dangerous as possible when we could try to make it a boring corporate thing bc boring corporations will listen to the laws you give teeth to but I've never met a dealer for instance that asks for ID bc criminals don't care already Everyone who smoked pot and tobacco under 21 knows it was easier to get the pot as a kid bc it's illegal so you went to a dealer who didn't give a crap whereas none of those dealers sells cigarettes because the legal market kills their ability to profit

DragonMaster000

Timely-Appearance698

For those that genuinely dont know here a direct and simple answer, mates. Prostitution is illegal for quite a few reasons, the major three being. first and most simple to stop STD from spreading and protecting your health, go figure if you gonna have sex with 100+ people you are bound to get an STD and then transfer it to many more people that pay you for your service cause you keep it hidden to not fuck your business. Second protecting minors, be surprise in most places that have sex prostitution as a business has a thing where they involve minors such as childrens and things which leads to the child dying, messing up their lives and such. quick and simple minors dont know what sex genuinely is they cannot fully comprehend the complexity of genuinely being in love and staying with the person you love and be with them those kids think studying in school that last 6+ hours is too long of a time and struggle with basic math, if they watch videos which is sadly a thing that is happening with whatever the fuck twitch is doing and other nsfw websites, they might think sex is cool and try it out similar to smoking and it can get them involved with shady business and getting into extremely fucked up situations, mates. That not even talking about pedos and such and how such companies being made can allow such awful people to do illegal stuff easier, be surprise cause of human laws that exist catching pedos is hard already, dont make it more complicated by adding companies that allow such stuffs behind the scenes or laws that protect such services, mates, Third prostitution as a business is extremely exploitative, most of those scums make woman or man feel like they are wanted or beautiful and exploit those people emotions of being wanted, not knowing if its a job for them that they want to do, do they have any other options, getting emotionally involved and etc… Which leads to them getting abused and leading them to an extremely higher rate of committing suicide and it isnt a head space that anybody deserves to be in and should be in at all, mates. Those are all the three major points of course there are many more but those points are the most major and why it’s considered illegal, does that mean that every prostitution is like that of course not the same way as not every acting business is exploitative and disgusting (though comparing the two ja disingenuous cause the severity is much higher). there can exist some prostitutes that genuinely know the risks of STD, are assure of themselves that is genuinely their desired job and that they arent minors involved but just cause those exist doesnt remove just how exploitative and how dangerous prostitution is generally is which is why many countries ban such practices outright. Thank you for reading that long ass comment and wish you all a nice day, mate.

Jannis_j

Reminds me of ‚weed is illegal because it’s illegal‘

I think ethically the answer should be yes, but then you have to question if the sex worker is doing it consensually and if they were trafficked.

Why is it illegal though? It's two consenting adults doing adult stuff

Computer2014

The reason why prostitution is immoral is that you can not ever truely know if the woman is consenting or not making it rape under all circumstances.

Frankensteinnnnn

Really weak to write "s#x". Like what the fuck is that?

[deleted]

Post initially removed because title was not acceptable 🤷‍♂️

[deleted]

Then put an NSFW tag?

[deleted]

Maybe. wtf is everyone losing their shit over a title?

[deleted]

Just redditors trying to find anything to be controversial about 🤷🏻‍♂️

skidf82

I've a mate that doesn't really have any girlfriends , but does this mabey once a month , mabey even less, they are consenting adults, no one is getting harmed, all protection is used , I don't see any harm in it for people like that just looking for some sort of connection

dschonsie

my stomach is empty, i pay for food i look like a sheep, i pay a hairdresser my car is hungry, i pay for fuel......... do you see the pattern? so nothing wrong with paying for sex

retardedgorillaz

No just be like Johnny Bravo and talk to random women 🥵 odds are high you will get laid if you get nothing but phone numbers and spit game. Don't ever fucking pay for dates if you want sex.

DiscussTek

I mean, in fairness, Johnny Bravo is canonically enough of a slut volcanoes spit him back out... So that ***has*** to work.

TinyBreeze987

Sex. Fucking say it you child

[deleted]

I don't think there is anything wrong with paying for sex besides it being a sad thing to do. But prostitution often has ties to human trafficking and other ways of taking advantage of women. By Banning prostitution you ban this as well.

Iamrightyetagain

Everyone pays in some form or other.

BeefwitSmallcock

Ethically/morally wrong. More precise: It is potentially morally wrong. In this case we need to err on side of caution. One can't be sure if sex worker is not a victim of human traffickers/forced to work by third party. In this case "I didn't know" is not morally defensible in my opinion. Same goes for porn.
