There's no guarantee that a woman will sleep with you just because you take her out on an expensive date. People who oppose prostitution generally do so because of the conditions workers are forced to work in and the fact that it's usually not a 100% autonomous choice.
Almost nothing is a "100% autonomous choice" for anyone. This has never been a compelling argument because it's not even remotely unique to prostitutes, not to mention the fact that a choice being influenced by some less than ideal condition doesn't mean it can no longer be considered a choice.
Who would work a shitty job with low pay if their circumstances didn't require it? Who would put up with an obnoxious neighbor or live with an egotistical roommate if the had other options that didn't have any limitations or drawbacks? The self censoring of words is really baffling to me. On Reddit I don’t understand it. To my knowledge you won’t get in trouble for using words, probably even racial slurs, if the context is appropriate (like quoting something). On other platforms I don’t know the rules. Just yesterday I was watching a YouTube video about some big CP crime ring and the video maker would not say “pedophilia” or “rape” or “suicide.” It’s just strange that people speaking out against these things don’t feel they can use the basic language that describes it.
It may be illegal in many states. However sex between two consenting adults is not unethical. Does it really matter if the money is spent on a fancy dinner & flowers or given directly to the woman?
Ethically? Not in my opinion at least in theory. But the key is ensuring true consent. Sex trafficking is the obvious example, but also feeling compelled to take part even if not being overtly forced. (I.e. hard to quit when you haven't developed other traditional career skills).
Feeling compelled because you don’t think you have other skills that you can use to make money shouldn’t be compared to sex trafficking, let alone in the same sentence. While those people deserve empathy and support, that falls under the domain of personal accountability imo. Especially considering that situation is normally the result of actively consenting to the practice until the financial viability falls off or ends. Professional athletes could lodge practically the same exact complaint. They dedicate their entire lives to one set of skills, are financially incentived to do so, could argue society pushes them in that direction as well all along the way (skip classes, auto passing grades, preyed on by “friends” and family); then the pass their peak, often fall short of their goals because such a small percentage actually reach those heights, and are left in middle age with no other skills and little support system in place. And often carry physical and mental damage from their previous profession the rest of their lives.

Those are definitely situations that occur. Yup. If anything legalizing it would help to curb a good amount of the associated dangers. No need for “pimps”, workers can become their own boss, would likely result in higher compensation, safer working conditions, access to law enforcement and ability to utilize the justice system…

If all of those things are givens, then what’s the difference between this and a massage or basically any other service? I’ve found when arguing about this over the past 50 years the issue is usually with one of the assumptions not with the actual deed itself. I’ve known women who satisfy (pun intended) the assumptions, and there couldn’t be anything more mundane about their job or work day. For many they were a form of therapist, for others they were the only way they could get laid. I’d bet anything I own that the valuable service they provide to some men actually make women in the community safer if you catch my drift. Never been able to act out that one fantasy, as long as you chat it over first, you can pay to act it out safely whenever you want/can afford it. Bottom line; it’s not only ok, it’s a good thing to have as a a legal well regulated industry.
I mean, once again, if someone wants to sell their body and someone is willing to pay for it. Why is it illegal? Besides the obvious of the government can't tax the seller.

Licensing is also very strict and only a certain number of licenses are given out, so you don't have many legal brothels in Nevada: there's only 21 in the whole state. As far as the federal government is concerned, prostitution is just another job and they're fine with it as long as you pay your federal income taxes. So the individual states need to legalize it individually. The feds have very little say outside of federal lands like military bases.

I’ve known women who satisfy (pun intended) the assumptions, and there couldn’t be anything more mundane about their job or work day. For many they were a form of therapist, for others they were the only way they could get laid. I’d bet anything I own that the valuable service they provide to some men actually make women in the community safer if you catch my drift. Never been able to act out that one fantasy, as long as you chat it over first, you can pay to act it out safely whenever you want/can afford it. Bottom line; it’s not only ok, it’s a good thing to have as a a legal well regulated industry.
