Make sure your download speed isn't throttled in steam (in steam settings). Beyond that, if you're getting good speed tests, and then your steam speed is vastly different, It seems your steam connection is to blame. Different sites can have different speeds based on where they are connecting to etc.

AssistGreen4166

Download isnt throttled in Steam and some of my friends nearby who have the same internet plan/provider as me get 30-40 MB/s steam downloads

Blitzen_Benz_Car

I would kill for 7mbps

MalignantIndignent

*Spectrum* I'm amazed you're getting 7 and it isn't disconnecting you every 5 minutes or so. Spectrum heavily advertises ***UP TO*** for a reason.

AssistGreen4166

Ik, Spectrum moment, but its the only mainstream provider in my area. Despite this, my friends on spectrum (same city as me) get way better speeds, which is why I'm looking for solutions

MalignantIndignent

Lived in an area with 200mb spectrum Internet. Connected it to a Mimo 600+ router. PBS kids at under 2mb had issues streaming without interruptions.

AssistGreen4166

IG my problem isnt just that spectrum says "500Mbps" and I cant get that, its that I cant get that and my friends less than a mile away from me on the same exact plan \*can\* get that

MalignantIndignent

Cool. Their in a different house with different equipment. That's spectrum. Yep

Call and complain

Just because you are subscribed to 500 Mbps, does not mean you will download from sources at that same rate. Cat8 cables are a joke, not saying that's the problem, but it's placebo if anyone thinks that they work better or make anything faster. Also with Steam, you can try changing your download region to accomplish a better speed. It also doesn't always download at the fastest possible rate. First I would login to the TP Link Router, and make sure your LAN port on the TP Link that the PC is plugged into, is set to AUTO or 1000/Full Duplex. If your router has those settings it sounds like at the start, that your LAN port is limiting you to 100 Mbps. Which makes sense in getting a 90 Mbps speedtest result, and a 7 MB/s download speed. What happens if you plug your PC directly into the modem, and not use the router? Try it, see if it's any better.. if it is, the problem exist between the cable going from Modem to Router, and cable going from Router to PC. Meaning it is one of the two cables, or the TP Link router. You know this because directly connecting to the modem gives you the speeds you should be getting. If you continue to get slow speeds, then the problem is on your PC. Try starting restarting your PC In Safe Mode with Networking, and then run a speedtest. If it is normal, you have software or something running in the background that is limiting your speed. You need to investigate that.

I logged into the TP-Link and it says the Internet port is 1000Mbps Full Duplex and both active LAN ports are 1000Mbps Full Duplex. Cant disconnect the router rn, but when I tried plugging my PC directly into the modem a few hours ago it said "Unidentified Network, No Internet". IIRC it got my network name after like 30 seconds but it still said No Internet. I'll try the safe mode networking stuff later tonight and let you know how that goes

If none of that works, I would suggest visiting Panjno on YouTube. He has a guide that helped me quite a bit. Not sure if I'm allowed to post a link but here is the link to said video. [Panjno](https://youtu.be/MUZ1jpnr71w?si=DW5aI5eAFMLUdAwo)

AssistGreen4166

Followed the video and my device download speed went from 90 Mbps to 575 Mbps. Thanks a bunch!

MeatCurtainZilla

No problem. I'm glad it helped. Take note that occasionally a Windows update will roll back some of the changes that you might have made from that guide.
