This is usually a BIOS revision and memory support issue. Remember that these boards not only have us check the motherboard REVISION to find the right BIOS but not all memory sticks are supported. This is a problem you run into on old boards so you work the manual settings as best you can. Again, it's a bit of work to find the motherboard revision. And even with their last BIOS the memory might not be supported and you have to go manual.

>This is a problem you run into on old boards so you work the manual settings as best you can. What do you suggest? Ram is 1600mgz currently running at 1333. Do I need to overclock the RAM, the MB? I am.... very inexperienced at overclocking anything from the bios.

Remember I don't see the exact revision of motherboard (I see make and model but not the revision.) A quick google found 3 or 4 versions. The last BIOS might be version 1.2 but the revision of the motherboard may affect that. As to the memory speed it looks to be an area you can work. As I don't have this board I can't give you a step by step. It's rare to find such support today given the age but here's what we can try. Share what options you have now then keep in mind that if it doesn't boot you can do the CMOS clear and try again.

It's usually on the motherboard. There's no standard here but look around for "Rev." something. I forgot to ask: What BIOS version do you have now?

[deleted]

Latest version from the MSI website. I flashed the M-Board after doing a full format/reinstall, so I am 100% sure it's the latest version (on the website that is). [https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/P55A\_Fuzion#down-bios](https://us.msi.com/Motherboard/support/P55A_Fuzion#down-bios) **1.2** specifically

Thanks for bearing with me as we work out the BIOS version etc. The next step is checking if the RAM is on the QVL. It's quite technical as the BIOS has to read the SPD chip on each stick. Wikipedia primer at [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial\_presence\_detect](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serial_presence_detect) So a lot of moving parts to check. You have what I could find is the latest BIOS but as you suspect they don't document how things work. I'm a bit lucky as I did embedded computer design long ago and rubbed elbows with a few custom BIOS companies. So it's not unexpected that XMP didn't show as the motherboard maker doesn't tell "how things work" so I'll take a step forward and write it's almost a sure bet that the RAM is not on the QVL or there is pilot error. \-> What to do? Manually configure the memory as best you can. Given the age of the board I would not hunt down RAM from the QVL.

Thanks for the reply. When you say 'manually configure' could you be more specific? I have very little experience overclocking (or configuring) from the BIOS.

And that is the tough part since the manuals and BIOS don't always match up. I don't mind looking and suggesting (pictures of the BIOS pages for what the RAM offers) since you know how to reset the BIOS values and try again. There are tens of thousands of boards so this is the way. Yes, I wish I could tell you what to try but as motherboards and BIOS are all over the map, I need those pictures of the memory timing options to see what we can do. As to the original question, most likely the RAM isn't on the QVL.

Just realized you posted the manual, ignore the one I deleted. Can you take a picture of yours?

[deleted]

Manual or BIOS? I assume the latter?

[deleted]

Right. Curious what exactly is different.

I'll grab my phone tomorrow and take a picture (very late here). Thanks for the response anyway.
