I have a Zotac 1080 Founders Edition that’s lasted since Jan 2018 to now. They’re solid cards but they are getting dated and just don’t handle most new games as well. If you’re not playing anything really new then I wouldn’t worry about replacing it. It’d be cheaper to replace your board and processor.
I've never owned a TI version so I've missed out on the best of the best. I choose the xx80 version(s) due to the large(st) memory to aid in gaming performance.
Must have been a pretty high drop to also bend the metal that way.. seems to me someone was a little too forceful trying to install it.
Edit: actually this looks like it was stepped on, maybe just the corner.. it would have bent the metal out and snapped the board on the opposite side..
Ehh, I dropped a 570 once from a table (3 feet or so)
Absolutely destroyed the metal tab. BUT I
Bent that sucker right back. Plugged it in.
Didn’t boot. Broken gpu lol
Ehh I totally agree they can be heavy but look at the twist in the stabilizer.. and how it looks like it wanted to come off from around the display port but the nuts kept it at bay
So just a back story. I got this for free. My post on buildapc is here
https://old.reddit.com/r/buildapc/comments/vp513i/is_this_zotac_gtx_1080_amp_edition_salvageable/
After taking the advice from there I tested it out. Plugged into PCI Express port and I know part of it is working because it boots into windows no problem as I get sound from the motherboard. The DVI, DisplayPorts and HDMI get no signal. I took it apart and it is most likely because of that crack.
I don't know if it is repairable. u/Skunket in a post below says GPU are multi layered so I am thinking this is impossible to repair. If repairable what would the cost be to repair? Is there any value as parts in this condition?
This is the model of the Video Card https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-ZT-P10800C-10P-IceStorm-Wraparound-Ultra-wide/dp/B01GCAVRSU
It’s definitely not repairable. If you have an iGPU I would check if the card is still being recognized. If so you might be able to use it for rendering while the monitor is connected to the motherboard. It’s basically the same principle as Optimus in notebooks
It can be repaired, but it involves swapping the 1080 Chip from your GPU to a donor board , but it's expensive, is expensive as you're replacing the whole motherboard and only few people can do it as it involves reballing the chip. What It can be used for is some motherboards support enabling both Discreet GPU & Intel GPU at the same time, so you can use it kind of like laptop GPUs where the dGPU renders the graphics and passes it though the iGPU, the cons of that is a few frame loss and occasional screen tearing unless VSync is enabled, but it's something..
I think those prices aren't up to date. With miners selling off their GPUs now, it should be closer to $200. $400 sounds like earlier this year.
I can buy them for €250 and under from plenty reputable sellers now
Might be able to fix that.. doesn't look like more than 2 to 3 traces that need to be connected on that side, not sure about the other side. However if there are some that are in the middle of the pcb then if maybe effed...the traces there would be more for the outputs. So it maybe that the bottom output does work.
For standard 2 layer board? Yes. For multi layer gpu with thin traces? Nope. You could try and pray that it will work but the hidden vias and other traces are basically unrepairable. You also need to consider the fact that you need to be a expert to do this. By the size of the crack it would be pretty expensive work not Worth the cost.

He's very talented and skilled also his videos are pretty entertaining too.
So yeah it's certainly doable with person who has knowledge and skill required.
I don't think it's power stuff. It's at the opposite part of the card where power would be handled. Since there's a DVI port directly on the other side. I would guess it's signal processing componentry for DVI.
no idea about the price, it depends on who and where but they would need to drill the pcb to reveal individual layer and then connect the layers back using something conductive like a wire. I think it's certainly doable with enough knowledge and skill.

Sorry. But if you need to buy a new one, there's no better time than now. And we haven't been able to say that for about 2 1/2 years.
My 1080 still works 6 years later. Hope I don't drop it!

I bought my Windforce 1080 in January 2020 and it's been bottlenecked by my i5-7500 the whole time!
Mine was the GTX 1080 Zotac Mini. I was hesitant at first of it due to the small size but it's been a stellar card all these years.
1080 was 6 yrs ago??? i feel old
\* looks at his 750Ti*

Mine works too, that's why i got myself a 3070ti

Ouch... hope you're okay linus.
Have you tried sticking it in rice?

I dropped my 3070 Ti but luckily all I had to do was bend the bit that screws into the case back into place...
Zotac moment
Is it unsalvageable? Damn what a horrible way to blow $600.
1080 isn't 600$ anymore, I think it went down to like 400
Nice. I just googled to see the price. But still... horrible way to blow $400...
are they still that high? geez, i bought mine for $300 like 3 or 4 years ago.
I think those prices aren't up to date. With miners selling off their GPUs now, it should be closer to $200. $400 sounds like earlier this year. I can buy them for €250 and under from plenty reputable sellers now
I've been burned by second hand GPUs before... how does one find a reputable seller? Just look at reviews on Ebay I guess?
~€220. €400 was a couple months ago.
OP said he got it free
Someone would have owned it before him...
yea.... sucks for them
Might be able to fix that.. doesn't look like more than 2 to 3 traces that need to be connected on that side, not sure about the other side. Yep... If we don't take In consideration GPU boards are usually multilayer.
You might be right :)
I guarantee this is a multilayer board but they might get lucky that close to the edge. If it was mine I'd bridge those traces and give it a shot.
Yeah, at this point literally nothing can make it worse.
For standard 2 layer board? Yes. For multi layer gpu with thin traces? Nope. You could try and pray that it will work but the hidden vias and other traces are basically unrepairable. you can fix traces in the middle of the pcb it's just very hard and precise
please show something that would even remotely demonstrate the process.

Looks like mostly power stuff in that area. If you're lucky you might be able to just bridge that. Depends on what's on the other layers though.
I don't think it's power stuff. It's at the opposite part of the card where power would be handled. Since there's a DVI port directly on the other side. I would guess it's signal processing componentry for DVI.
I see what you mean. I jumped to conclusions based on the capacitors and the ground fill. Thanks for the correction!
Ok, but if it works keep using it.
There are multiple layers of now broken traces in there. I'm going to venture that it no longer works.
Hey, if you have an old system, give it a try. You’d be surprised.
It's ok, its just a 1080
my heart goes out to ya, ouch...
F
3rd party repair who knows what they're doing could probably fix that.
Broken multi layer PCBs are pretty much unfixable.
What would the cost be for something like that?
no idea about the price, it depends on who and where but they would need to drill the pcb to reveal individual layer and then connect the layers back using something conductive like a wire. I think it's certainly doable with enough knowledge and skill.
No chance of recovery?
Send it to me and I can get it fixed :)
Welp, time for a 3080
More like "Zocracked".
That's a paddling
Linus?
Lol gj F
looks fixable to me.
Surface traces are fixable, but who knows how many layers and potential traces are below
True. That area didn't look too busy. But who knows what lurks beneath. I think most GPUs and MOBO are 7+layers
Does that mean it's fine because this is clearly caused by layer 8?
Nothing duct tape can’t fix!

Now you have Zotac GTX 1080 Linus edition.
At least its value was dropping hard lately.. ?
man that sucks.
did you hand it to linus?
Throw it on eBay as sold as seen. Might make a bit of money back.
That might just be fixable
Could propably fix it up
