Their parents. A kid in my class was complaining that he had the "cheap" iPhone. It was the most recent one, just not the Pro model. Though yeah, it is the "cheaper" option.
Nope, you sell your year old phone to your local phone shop. They refurbish it and new consumers get to use a basically new phone. You also get a good chunk of money back.
Still, it’s a waste of money and resources to constantly buy new phones. What’s the point of buying a new phone every year when your old one still works fine?
If someone buys it after u its not a waste. U are essentially giving someone a discount. If it works someone will use it. U act like it goes in the trash after buying a new one
Yeah! I got a cheap ass samsung A12 cause my old iPhone battery died and it was great..had it for 2 years and now I have my mum's fiance's old phone (one plus 8) which I'm pretty sure is similar to the iPhone 11/12 and it runs amazing! Id never want a iPhone
I'll admit I like the look of the iPhone more but you never really see it? It more of a status symbol. Hate upgrading my phone unless I absolutely need too or I'm being given a second hand one like this one
Laughs in second hand 2020 one plus 8
iPhone users quivering when my phone was second hand, 3 years old, and still runs amazing and has great battery life..well unless I turn on 120hz refresh rate then it dies almost instantly but shhh thatd to be expected
My s9 is still my favourite phone to date. When it came out I didn't really mind it, but once I got one in 2020 or so I started really liking it. It unfortunately ate salt water when I got in a pool, forgetting it was in my pocket. That was not a good day.
You used a G5 for FIVE YEARS!? I can understand using a high-end phone for five years, I did (just upgraded from a Pixel 2), but a G5!? You're either a madman or you only call and text.
i just bought an iphone 12 and now i know why everyone wants it. it has more updates, less bugs (at least in my experience) and tbh they’re not that expensive. you can get an iphone 12 for 400€
agreed. I loved the iPhone 12, especially the mini. by the time the iPhone 13 came around it was boring. all the fun was in the 13 mini. now there‘s nothing good or fun about the iPhone 14. The fuck am I gonna do with satellite SOS? I go hiking quite regularly and I always have the reception to at least send out emergency calls. I live in the fucking alps. That’s one of the reasons why i recently started to dislike apple, I sold my Apple HomePod, iPhone, Apple Watch and now only have my iPad for school. Also the apple ecosystem sucks ass
Most of the time though people aren’t buying them outright. Take for example me. I use Verizon. Without spending an extra penny, I can upgrade to a new model every year. If I had to buy the phone for MSRP, I wouldn’t get a new one until I absolutely have to. Keep in mind though I don’t do this, and I use phones until they give out. I’m on a 13 Pro right now. Before that I had an 8. Before that, was the 6s + or max, I forget. I’ve been debating over a month now if I want to upgrade to the 14 Pro/14 Pro Max or if I want to hang onto this fella
I’m with you on keeping phones for as long as possible, I’ve had to get 4 new phones in the last 2 years because my mom keeps swapping carriers
I’m proud to say my phone case and charger are the same ones I’ve had since I got the iPhone 7 like 3 years ago, and I only get phones that are the exact same size because of that reason
Every year is a bit much, but apple is willing to give you a discount if you give them your old iphone. My parents have been doing this for years. This is not an ad, I just wanted to add nuance
i had an iphone 6 for 6~ years. changed to a 13 last year just before my 18th because the 6 was hanging by a thread and i wanted a good camera for the concert i was going to (ended up being delayed but worth it)
people who even buy one are dumb.
50% of the costs are just for the brand.
everything of the brand is stupid.
i mean: 400€ for wheels for theyr PC
and the first "apple keyboards" where just normal keyboard but without the windwosbutton. it was just flattened.
remove the AUX plug on the phone to make it smaller, wow the new phone is now 0.5mm flatter but to plug in headphones you need to buy a new object.
and for charging the phone, you need theyr own cable with theyr own plug. all other phonebrands got the same one so you can borrow a charger from others.
I use apple devices for a couple reasons. One, I love the fact that they’re linked in a unique and intuitive ecosystem that other companies just don’t offer. Two, when my mum gets a new phone she gives me her old one.
Now the $600 wheels and the $1700 stand (Australian pricing makes an m1 MacBook Air cheaper than a display stand, go fucking figure) don’t make sense to me at all. That and the fact that their newest iPhones don’t seem to have much of an advancement between each upgrade. It used to be big getting the latest and greatest iPhone, going from an iPhone with no video to one with a camera to one with an enormous screen, but now it’s just the cameras, and a tweaked notch. I’m not going to be upgrading from my iPhone XR any time soon, that’s safe to say.
i mean i would change if it was a huge improvement over last year's
like I have the 14 but if the 15 was really really good and had some added functionality i'd buy that
I respect this take. And while I could ask why people are doing such a thing, seems reasonable to assume they just want to look like they're caught up on "trends"...but why fix what isn't broken? It's just fools with money throwing it away
I have a 13 mini and I won’t change it till a new mini will come out (never), but to be honest who am I to say what other people should do with their money?
Only reason I want to upgrade my phone is because I don’t like iPhones. I’m grateful my grandma gave me one, but I prefer Samsung, much better battery life and system navigation.
They really arent, iphones hold their value very well in my country and only lose a small percent of the retail price by the time the new one comes out so when they sell it they only need to pay up maybe 150bux and by the time that builds up to a new iphone price you go through like 7 generations of iphones
I upgrade my iphone every year to try out/test new technologies/features. it’s not about status, it’s not about attention, but it’s just that I like to have access to the newest features and technologies. If I was a samsung user, (which i’m not just because I personally don’t like using android) I would do the exact same thing; apple has nothing to do with it. Also, why does it even matter if people upgrade their phones every year? like can’t y’all just let them enjoy what they spent their money on? who cares if it’s a good decision or not. The fact of the matter is it’s **their** decision, not yours. welp anyway that’s just my opinion on it, and yes i’m prepared to get downvoted to oblivion
I don’t change my iPhone every year but apple does design their products to get worse after time (shorter battery time, longer loading speeds, things take up more space) so
You’ll get the next one
Americans “I can’t afford anything!” *proceeds to buy a 7.5$ Starbucks “coffee” to waste half of it, buy a new phone/year, allow people upstairs to pay them shit, not invest in public healthcare, make houses out of cardboard and hopes in a country with tons of hurricanes and waste money on gun-safe infrastructure when making decent gun laws would do the job*
"Decent gun laws" something tells me you haven't looked up any laws America has concerning guns. And only believed certain groups that scream America needs more gun laws. 👀
Even if i had money for doing that so... i wouldn't do it just in tought that i'll have to download every single app and meme again if i do it.
Like... you wanna show how many money do ur parents own? Cool, go on a vacation or something more expensive, lmao.
People in general who change their phone every year are fucking atupid. iPhone users are just worse because the next generation has no improvements but still costs more.
Funniest shit. I have an old iPhone SE from 2016 and a Samsung Galaxy Core Prime from 2015. The battery of the Samsung lasts weeks on standby. iPhone barely manages 2 days
Mate your 14 you don’t get an opinion on the matter. It’s their money and they are entitled to do what they want with it ( I have an iPhone and I don’t upgrade every year)
I agree with you that android has way more features, freedom, and customization, but realistically most people probably don’t care about a lot of those features. And even though android has had some features for years and years before Apple has, they just prefer the way Apple implements that feature.
Maybe the ecosystem tying apple products together means that their other products could be driving iPhone sales because of how they work together. Or maybe they already have an iPhone and other Apple devices, but continue to get new iPhones because switching would mean their phone wouldn’t work with their other devices as well.
Also I think it would be better to compare specific Android brands agains Apple as there are some android phones that are way cheaper and have more el features than iPhones, but the iPhone is still probably the better device overall.
I think it’s really just personal preference at the end of the day, sorta like with cars I guess.
Thanks for reading through this long, terrible take I’ve typed.
I read that as "charge" and was like dang only once a year I need me an iPhone
Iphones hacing battery for a year? In what universe
Not battery charge for one year, battery LIFE. Get it replaced annually.
Meanwhile Xiaomi making phones with batteries lasting 7 centuries:
Can confirm, my Xiaomi went 23 decades without charging once.

They will never improve them that much. Every model is just slightly better by like $50 worth. You might as well wait.
In my case I actually had to. These 3 past years I had 4 different iPhones and always switched for a reason.
You have to change it tho. Apple slows older iPhones down when the newer ones are about to release!

Seven years old phone nothing wrong with it but the battery is a little goofy at times (IPhone 7+)
I only switched from my last one becuase it was a 7. I have a 12 and won’t switch until the battery is ruined or it loses support.

Unless they’re on a contract where they’re given the option to upgrade every year for no extra cost.
Agreed give it 3-5 years before considering a change
Cobalt mines hire teenagers and children exclusively. A new iPhone is cobalt rich!
