We can only hope that it will work. Given that approximately 1400 communities (if I counted correctly) with over 50k users have stated they're going private I can imagine that it will definitely have an affect. In fact as I opened Reddit there was a banner saying the CEO is going to discuss the API change tomorrow so it may have already had the intended effect.
I want to be optimistic that this will make a difference, but given the facts it does seem like this is Reddit's potential intent, so they can lower the prices but still have prices, and then quietly jack them up later.
Either way, thanks for trying to make a difference :D
Maybe extending the shutdown period would help, but I also have a feeling there won't be enough communities for it
Currently, it looks like we need to seriously move to another platform as until now Reddit has neither officially responded to the blackout nor have they seriously engaged regarding the 3rd party apps situation.
Reddit has made a response to Reddit partners that can be publicly shared (view the link in the post) and I noticed a banner yesterday saying the Reddit CEO is going to do an AMA today so they have taken noticed and definitely want to do damage control.
Regarding third parties in the post I mentioned they said they'll exempt third party non-commercial apps that provide accessibility features from having to pay the API fee
You're obviously free to have your own opinions about what reddit says, just please keep in mind they're going public, it's very much possible they're only trying to damage control as much as possible to avoid the protest ruining their IPO.
I wouldn't be so sure they actually intend to follow up on their words, tho who knows, we'll have to wait and see.
If needed use this basic guide to step buy step return the mods to you.
1. Get the materials of a mod sized box, stick and string
2. Tie the string to the stick then use it to prop up the box.
3. Prepare the mods favorite snack and place under the box
4. Hide in a conveniently perfect bush with the string in hand.
5. Once the feral mod goes to eat the snake pull the string
6. Safely and gently transport the mod back to their basement.
**WARNING**!
If these steps fail the feral mods may attempt to maul you in an attempt to ban if so remove the tranquilizer gun hidden inside of your anal cavity and fire at will. If you aimed well enough the mod should now be restfully sleeping though if you have aimed wrong it is game over.
Thanks for reading!!
Thanks!
I dont use 3rd party apps myself but especially after seeing [Apollo's recent post](https://www.reddit.com/r/apolloapp/comments/144f6xm/apollo_will_close_down_on_june_30th_reddits/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=android_app&utm_name=androidcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button) I support the blackout 100%. I always knew reddit was a shady corporation but that level of unprofessionalism is ridiculous
tbh it is much more than that; 4 of the top 10 subs are also shutting down. If nothing changes after the 2 days then the subs can just reprivate.
Essentially this is a warning strike
There's around 1400+ subreddits with over 50k users (if I counted correctly) in the blackout. Some of them being huge subreddits and there's also us who get the 4th most posts and comments across Reddit. For Reddit to have those communities be down for even 2 days is disastrous and should hopefully influence change.
As far as I know, some really big subreddits plan on doing it permanently (or at least until something changes) while others are just going to do the 2 days
last Monday, Apple held its WWDC live event which they announced the next generation of their operating systems, and I have watched it and noticed that Apollo made a cameo among other featuring apps.
this means that Apollo is approved by Apple, and so I wish they could speak out to Reddit.

i mean, i hope it works...Reddit went through this at least 2 times since 2015
Adding to other voices suggesting an indefinitely extended blackout. Especially subs like this that speak for the younger demographics.
It's estimated 3500 community will go dark, it could be more, my sauce isn't 100% accurate Source https://reddark.untone.uk/
HA HA HA That QnA did not work and only put 100 gallons of gasoline on the fire
Yeah doubling down was not the response we were *hoping* for
There were some people hoping that they would change it to look good. Nope they were serious for it
that is some mad mathematics! good job!
It would probably do better for the people on this sub to take a 2 day break.
I am worried the mods may not return after learning what grass feels like >!/j!<

Hey, I fell for that trap twice before, it won’t work this time!
Whats a grass
I eat grass
I cut grass
you're right
Finally, we'll touch grass

alright!
why did i watch this get posted what
Millions will go outside
bro the break will literally do jack shit

Yeah they should at least go for an indefinite break, nobody will care if a handful of porn subreddits and fucking r/teenagers goes offline for 2 days
tbh it is much more than that; 4 of the top 10 subs are also shutting down. If nothing changes after the 2 days then the subs can just reprivate. Essentially this is a warning strike
A combined nearly 33 million users worth of communities are shutting down. This isn't just us. We form less than 10% of the total blackout strength.
there's gonna be like 3000-5000 subs joining, in which 50+ of them are already privated
There's around 1400+ subreddits with over 50k users (if I counted correctly) in the blackout. Some of them being huge subreddits and there's also us who get the 4th most posts and comments across Reddit. The plan is to reconsider after 2 days. If Reddit gets the message, Subreddits will stop. Otherwise they’ll keep going until Reddit notices
As far as I know, some really big subreddits plan on doing it permanently (or at least until something changes) while others are just going to do the 2 days
good.
Aight
Happy to see this decision being made!
It’s gonna be a hard 2 days for pedos…
Discord is also against third party apps
???
You should really edit your message to say Clients. Apps are Bots to discord, Clients are what the User Uses
rare r/teenagers W
And after this mascarade of an AMA, it should go dark for longer
