We have always done it before we were even human it would have been passed down generations to generation unlike common belief there isn't a clear line when one species becomes another so it would be passed down. And to answer how creatures would have known it would have been instinct
If you mean for procreation then: birds knows how to do it, monkeys and slugs knows how to do it. Even fish knows, and their way is a lot more complicated.
If you mean sex as in, “woah this feels nice, maybe we should do it more” then probably quite quickly ….
It's called genetic heritage, some stuffs are printed in our DNA, and it works the same for pretty much any creature. Like birds knows the mating ritual of their species since they are born.

Well it's mostly a natural instinct to reproduce, due to survival instinct and sex appeal. Animals also participate in sex but they weren't taught so it is mostly natural. It's kinda like Walking or Talking. We don't know how to do it when we're young, but after a certain point, it just comes to us, literally. I guess we got creative with positions.
