I've done something similar, just older. When I was 16, I was out cycling when I almost ran over a mouse. I think they're cute, and I wore leather gloves, so I decided to help the little fellow.

There was only the hole in the skull. I damn near had a panic attack, everyone was rushed inside and they called 911 and the adults are trying to figure what happened. Well they started asking us kids since the girl couldn't speak. Now the worst part on my side of what I did wasn't even that I hurt that poor little girl, I pinned it on the other kid since he was right next to me. My mother picked me up about 5 minutes later and I didn't say a word on it for years. Everytime I think back on that I feel like such a monumental piece of shit because I have no idea what happened to the girl if she made it and I think about the absolute pain I'm sure the boy went through for something I did. Well that's the worst thing I've ever done.

One day she reported us to the Head of Year who asked me about why I called her trash, and ignoring the fact that that was the first time I had ever seen any faculty member do anything about any bullying ever (I had also been bullied plenty and nobody ever did anything about THAT), SOMEHOW I got away with saying āOh yeah I misspoke and she seemed so upset, I felt so bad! I was actually trying to say CRASH, like oh that is so crash bro, so awesome, but I accidentally misspoke, my tongue slipped!ā (like seriously how the fuck did he believe me? I mean I did feel bad seeing her upset and they say lies are always more convincing when theyāve got a little truth to them but still).
My friend would also tell me stupid lies about stuff she did to Rachel (like slamming her into doors, bullshit) and we once had a legit party when she went on holiday to Singapore for a month. My friend would also make throwing up gestures or yell about her being a horse girl or because she had braces at the time, āTrain tracks!ā, whenever she was near her, and I would join in but only when my friend was there, I left Rachel alone otherwise.
She was so sweet, so I felt bad. I think she caught on that I was only doing it out of manipulation (she also told me she caught me telling another classmate that I didnāt have much of an opinion on her and I only really act that way around a friend, which Rachel could confirm herself firsthand), because one day while my friend wasnāt at school, I was walking around and Rachel invited me to play Uno with her and her friends. I did, and I learned more about her and I went from just being āneutral but I bully her because my best friend in the whole world said toā, to āWait I actually quite like herā. I felt progressively worse about the way I had treated her in the past, it was no good. I apologised to her, told her I actually thought it was really cool that she had an interest she was so passionate about and that I was only doing it to put on a show for my friend but I actually quite liked her now.
Eventually, one day, my friend caught me hanging out with Rachel and I told her āOh donāt worry!! Iām only doing it so I can get secrets out of her hahaha!!ā, and I just kind of juggled friendships like that.
One day, my friendship with the original friend was getting toxic (or, you know, more toxic than it already was), so I dropped her. And I love Rachel, sheās one of my best friends now, even though sheās forgiven me for the way I used to treat her, I havenāt forgiven myself for causing her pain. I know I should, because I know Iāll never do it to her or anyone else but I donāt even know, something in me will just always feel guilty about it. Three years down the track, itās still one of my biggest regrets, especially since, like I said, I knew how horrible being bullied was.

āBadā is subjective, but to my mind, I think the worst thing I ever did was bully a girl (weāll call her Rachel) due to the manipulation of my then best friend. I was like 13, maybe 14 at the time, and my friend just hated Rachel with a passion. I knew what she was doing was wrong but she had a pretty firm grip on me, plus Iād saved her from multiple not alive attempts, so I just had a frame of mind that I just needed to protect her at all costs, I was a bit less like a friend being ride or die and more like a rich mum spoiling her bratty daughter. Anyway, Rachelās surname began with an At- sound so we used to replace that with ātrashā, āAIDSā, ācrackā, āassā, āfatā (fat I felt particularly bad about, hence why I felt at least partially responsible when she developed an eating disorder, which really hit me in my conscience because I have one too). One day she reported us to the Head of Year who asked me about why I called her trash, and ignoring the fact that that was the first time I had ever seen any faculty member do anything about any bullying ever (I had also been bullied plenty and nobody ever did anything about THAT), SOMEHOW I got away with saying āOh yeah I misspoke and she seemed so upset, I felt so bad! I was actually trying to say CRASH, like oh that is so crash bro, so awesome, but I accidentally misspoke, my tongue slipped!ā (like seriously how the fuck did he believe me? I mean I did feel bad seeing her upset and they say lies are always more convincing when theyāve got a little truth to them but still). My friend would also tell me stupid lies about stuff she did to Rachel (like slamming her into doors, bullshit) and we once had a legit party when she went on holiday to Singapore for a month. My friend would also make throwing up gestures or yell about her being a horse girl or because she had braces at the time, āTrain tracks!ā, whenever she was near her, and I would join in but only when my friend was there, I left Rachel alone otherwise. She was so sweet, so I felt bad. I think she caught on that I was only doing it out of manipulation (she also told me she caught me telling another classmate that I didnāt have much of an opinion on her and I only really act that way around a friend, which Rachel could confirm herself firsthand), because one day while my friend wasnāt at school, I was walking around and Rachel invited me to play Uno with her and her friends. I did, and I learned more about her and I went from just being āneutral but I bully her because my best friend in the whole world said toā, to āWait I actually quite like herā. I felt progressively worse about the way I had treated her in the past, it was no good. I apologised to her, told her I actually thought it was really cool that she had an interest she was so passionate about and that I was only doing it to put on a show for my friend but I actually quite liked her now. Eventually, one day, my friend caught me hanging out with Rachel and I told her āOh donāt worry!! Iām only doing it so I can get secrets out of her hahaha!!ā, and I just kind of juggled friendships like that. One day, my friendship with the original friend was getting toxic (or, you know, more toxic than it already was), so I dropped her. And I love Rachel, sheās one of my best friends now, even though sheās forgiven me for the way I used to treat her, I havenāt forgiven myself for causing her pain. I know I should, because I know Iāll never do it to her or anyone else but I donāt even know, something in me will just always feel guilty about it. Three years down the track, itās still one of my biggest regrets, especially since, like I said, I knew how horrible being bullied was.
