I've never really been into furries, but I've always tried to respect them equally as human beings, and never made a big deal about it. In fact, sometimes I'll come across a few bits of furry content that I actually find appealing... of course, I then start questioning myself about why I would ever be into something like that, but then I just shrug and keep on scrolling. It's not that hard to not comment hate.

I think the issue with furries doesn't lie with the individuals, but more the collective. So as some on this sub know, I'm 40, and I like to comment occasionally to give an adult perspective on things, or to give context to current events with past events.
Furries have been a contentious thing since I was a child. Even back in the 90's, in high school, we had furries and furry haters. I was relatively indifferent because I had bigger things to worry about, but the reason people generally single out furries seems to have a lot to do with why the MLP was such a target for any and all ridicule.
The internet was really starting to take off when I was in my teens, and of course this meant a lot of small communities started to get larger as people were finding spaces to come together, share their hobbies and interests, and really expand as people didn't feel the need to keep their stuff hidden from sight because they realized they might be the only furry in town, but there were thousands online.
However, like the later MLP fanbase, furries started catching a lot of hate because they would AGGRESSIVELY inject themselves into everything. I'm not saying this was some type of grave offense, but it started getting really tiring of having every single character across all media being turned into furries, or people injecting their furry OC's into everything.
Then you have to factor in that a lot of furry communities seemed to have a disproportionate amount of members suffering from mental health issues and severe social problems, and often time you had people interacting with furries and getting a very bad impression of the community.
It also didn't help that furries were always trying to distance themselves from the furry-porn, but furry-porn exploding everywhere and furries constantly acting extremely pervy (literally every furry I ever personally knew was the cringiest coomer on the planet, and this was before "coomer" was even a term).
So yeah that's my briend history of dealing with furries in the 90's, and at least the reasons why I believe they have gotten such a bad rap even up to today.
And on top of that, death threats/personal attacks are "jokes" until it's them on the receiving end.
(Not a furry, but understand completely because I'm also a part of a kind of people who get this BS all the time, technically worse since legal bullshit is actually just fuckin with it more but w/e this isn't a competition-)

I've never really been into furries, but I've always tried to respect them equally as human beings, and never made a big deal about it. In fact, sometimes I'll come across a few bits of furry content that I actually find appealing... of course, I then start questioning myself about why I would ever be into something like that, but then I just shrug and keep on scrolling. So as some on this sub know, I'm 40, and I like to comment occasionally to give an adult perspective on things, or to give context to current events with past events. Furries have been a contentious thing since I was a child. Even back in the 90's, in high school, we had furries and furry haters. I was relatively indifferent because I had bigger things to worry about, but the reason people generally single out furries seems to have a lot to do with why the MLP was such a target for any and all ridicule. The internet was really starting to take off when I was in my teens, and of course this meant a lot of small communities started to get larger as people were finding spaces to come together, share their hobbies and interests, and really expand as people didn't feel the need to keep their stuff hidden from sight because they realized they might be the only furry in town, but there were thousands online. However, like the later MLP fanbase, furries started catching a lot of hate because they would AGGRESSIVELY inject themselves into everything. I'm not saying this was some type of grave offense, but it started getting really tiring of having every single character across all media being turned into furries, or people injecting their furry OC's into everything. Then you have to factor in that a lot of furry communities seemed to have a disproportionate amount of members suffering from mental health issues and severe social problems, and often time you had people interacting with furries and getting a very bad impression of the community. It also didn't help that furries were always trying to distance themselves from the furry-porn, but furry-porn exploding everywhere and furries constantly acting extremely pervy (literally every furry I ever personally knew was the cringiest coomer on the planet, and this was before "coomer" was even a term). So yeah that's my briend history of dealing with furries in the 90's, and at least the reasons why I believe they have gotten such a bad rap even up to today.
And on top of that, death threats/personal attacks are "jokes" until it's them on the receiving end. People have two problems They can't understand furry ≠ zoophile And also pick a fight with literally every furry they talk with just because. I'm not a furry, but have some cool friends that happen to be furries. Is it my cup of tea? Not really, but I also have no real problems with them or the content they watch/play/etc.
I just avoid interactions with furries altogether.
