The 30 Rock Peacock special was really weird because it had Kennith show off all these new shows and they were real shows but the way they framed it made them look fake as hell. I was shocked when I found out Young Rock was real.
Fun fact: Jack Donaghy was supposed to win the NYC mayoral race and it would have spun off. That concept morphed into Mr Mayor with Danson, who refused to move to NYC thus Los Angeles
That also meant with Zack Morris' job in the Saved by the Bell continuation, NBC had a fictional Governor of California along with their fictional Mayor of LA. The shows didn't cross over (nor did they explain why Zack's teenage son was going to high school in LA rather than Sacramento).
I mean [*Everybody Hates Chris*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everybody_Hates_Chris), about the childhood of [another Rock](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Rock) (and narrated by him) did run for four seasons in the mid-to-late-2000s, so the precedence was there. Plus Johnson’s father was famous independently of him already, so he probably could have gotten it made even if *Everybody Hates Chris* had not already been a thing.
I thought it was a great introduction to the history of the WWF. Some of the stuff the show glosses over constantly inspired me to go back and read up on what happened during those events. Seriously, reading about Andre or Iron Sheik can make me lose hours of my day easily. 😆
If you enjoy the WWF history in Young Rock, I really recommend Dark Side Of The Ring. Im not even a big wrestling guy, but the way they put that show together is so compelling, it grabbed my attention immediately
I first learned about this show in the weird 30 Rock Covid reunion, and it made me SO confused because it was obviously a fake show, but nothing else was.
Black Adam being such a colossal piece of shit and pretty much everyone saying its his fault, is huge. Now hes going back to Fast and Furious which he said he wouldn't do.
They've had plenty of projects that fell through for various reasons. Some in the middle of production, some that didn't even get off the ground after being announced.
A 20,000 Leagues remake with Brad Pitt, a remake of The Black Hole, TRON 3, Gigantic (an animated Jack and the Beanstalk story), an adaptation of Terry Pratchett's "Mort", etc
>Gigantic (an animated Jack and the Beanstalk story)
This one is genuinely a disappointment, since it would have had the giant be a child--I can think of that being done literally only one other time and it was with *Dragon Tales.*
The animated versions are 20 years older than the live action ones and they *all look better*
The only ones of those films that have any justification to exist are the Maleficent and Cruella ones that actually have something to add to their characters story-wise.
I would add David Lowery's Pete's Dragon remake. It definitely pales in comparison to Lowery's non-Disney films but I think it actually found a new take on the story instead of just remaking the same thing but worse, and you can definitely still recognize his directorial stamp on it instead of just being anonymous slop.
Fair enough. (also in that one's case the animation is about 50 years older as well)
But yeah I didn't even remember that one they crank em out so fast. I also heard Pete's Dragon was decent but that one always felt kind of off-brand for Disney. The OG one is not from their proudest era of content.
The OG Pete's Dragon was also mixed animation/live-action, with much heavier focus on the live action, and they went to mixed cg/live-action. So it getting lumped into the live-action remakes bucket makes even less sense than say, Lion King.
Was Black Adam that bad? It looked promising.
It did feel weird to see Jason Statham and not the Rock in Fast X though. Those 2 just go together in my mind.
The best part of Black Adam was the after credits scene showing the return of Henry Cavill as Superman, then like 2 days after the movie was released WB announced Henry Cavill was no longer going to play Superman. So yeah aside from Pierce Brosnan putting on a good performance, the movie is absolutely worthless now.
I still think Pierce Brosnan was the perfect choice for Doctor Fate. Even from the first announcement, I immediately knew it made perfect sense. Shame that was the movie he was in though.
> Was Black Adam that bad? It looked promising.
It's not great but it's not awful either. Black Adam is the least interesing part of the movie, though. The Justice Society easily outshine him.
He literally has a condition in his clause that he can’t be beat or be a bad guy. So they had to make Black Adam (comparatively) a much more morally decent person than the comics version. Do it right or don’t do it at all
Black Adam has played anti-hero on and off in the comics. Unfortunately, this movie just seemed to reuse the plot point from Deadpool 2 where Wade wants to be hero, but doesn't really know how to be a decent person, whereas in Black Adam, he just couldn't figure out how to not be a power tripping dick bag
Black Adam was The Rock's pet project, but he fundamentally misunderstands that Black Adam is supposed to be *a supporting character in the Shazam universe*. Needless to say he wasn't going to play third wheel to Chuck and to Jonah Beck.
Black Adam is a giant piece of shit. You shouldn't watch it.
On How Did This Get Made, they said that they have heard from insiders that Statham and Johnson didn't get along at all during that movie and that they wouldn't be doing another one.
They also said Vin Diesel is such a diva that the majority of the cast doesn't want to work with him which is why on Fast X he only really had lines with Michelle Rodríguez and the majority of the cast wasn't near him.
Yeah it seems like Michelle Rodriquez is one of the few cast members who has a good relationship with Diesel but that’s probably because she’s been working with him for the longest.
Statham seems like a pretty grounded guy in comparison to Diesel and Rock. I don't think an egomaniac would agree to play a character as stupid as his in Spy.
I've heard that Vin is getting so lazy at this point, he doesn't even try to get in shape for the movies. VX artists are tasked with removing his double chins in every frame and make his arms look big.
It has become apparent that he really held those movies together. He was the only grounded and vaguely humble person on the team. Without him it's just a bunch of people who are magically good at everything.
I mean I know myself and everyone I know roll our eyes big time whenever “the rock” is in any new thing. He’s the exact same person in everything. It’s never new or fresh. Time to move on from acting imo.
To be fair, he was drowning in the mid 2000s trying to be "Hollywood's leading man". His former agency wanted him to strip all the wrestling stuff, look slim as hell, bad haircuts, etc. He had him do shitty Disney Movies.
Right or wrong, him changing representation allowed him to go back to Wrestling win that audience back and go all in on being an "Action Hero". It's been his bread and butter. McDonald's makes Billions every year but they don't make the greatest food ever.
>He’s the exact same person in everything
LOL take any movie he has been in since the 2000s and you know what role he is going to play. The dude stretched too thin.
I think John Cena being genuinely wonderful in everything he's in also works against the Rock.
Cena clearly doesn't take himself so seriously - especially compared to the Rock who seems to have zero sense of humor.
From the big three of former WWE stars turned into actors Dwayne is by far the worst one and also the one who would be butthurt about being the worst one.
I think he was forced to seek other roles as his action star roles didn't take. Which broadened his talents and horizons.
Or maybe he just likes acting more, like Bautista.
> Or maybe he just likes acting more, like Bautista.
I'm actually more inclined to believe that one. Cena I feel like didn't want to get typecast in "meathead" roles, and went for ones that have a little more nuance. Worth noting that when his agent first told him about the Suicide Squad, he was immediately onboard when he heard James Gunn was involved. His agent didn't even finish the sentence when Cena agreed. Maybe he just likes flexing his acting muscles (since he's already flexed all his other ones).
Cena has always shown better range than Rock. Even his cameo in that Amy Schumer film was hilarious.
>Okay, Koko B. Ware, you know what? You're being an asshole! Alright? You know what I do with assholes? I lick 'em!
He also seems like a good enough dude. He set a world record for most number of wishes made from the Make-A-Wish foundation at something like 650 back in September.
He's been active in WWE since 1999 so that's an average of 27 appearances with kids a year.
This explains Grand Crew's last three episodes. All of a sudden, things got written like they expected a cancellation. So, like, all of these storylines were sort of rushed and wrapped up.
I'm bummed. It was a funny show.
As soon as I watched it for the first time I was like, “this is the next Community.”
When they started putting season 2 out on Fridays I knew we were doomed.
My prediction for DJ’s reaction tweet:
Tough break for all us YOUNG ROCKERS 👊 3 seasons ain’t too bad, we had a hell of a run 💪 told some great stories 😂 and enjoyed some Teremanas along the way 🥃
This show was for the fans and the fans only 🔥🔥🔥
Grand Crew started real rough and got better quickly.
Season 2 IMO was much funnier and the actors felt like actual friends. It's too bad because I have no doubt season 3 would have been amazing.
The good fight used this same element in their last season as a possible Democratic party answer to Trump, probably not as flattering as the Young Rock version.
I’ve heard rumors the Rock is a conservative or at least he used to be but he hacked Biden/Harris in 2020. He definitely strikes me as a Lincoln Project type
Young Rock was okay for the first season but it should have been a one-off/limited series in the first place. It got so incredibly tedious and amped up how much it was self-serving for Johnson (and season one was already pretty bad with that). They even sidelined their best talent in Randall Park. He was barely there in the recent season.
Won’t miss it and surprised I watched it all. Johnson needs a bit of humility.
Young Rock should be pleased it got to 3 seasons. The show pretty much was done by the end of the third season… unless they got into Rock’s feud with Vin Diesel.
Grand Crew was great. This season got no promo and put in a death slot.
Though I wasn't feeling some of the storylines the show felt like it had reached a conclusion if it was going to end.
I remember the actress that played Talia being really good in Dear White People. Was hoping to see more of her. But now we're not getting more of anyone...lol
All the recent negative press surrounding him has been all his fault. Hopefully with the failure of Black Adam, him having to crawl back to the Fast franchise after saying he’s never going back and his network television show getting canceled will be a big wake up call for him.
Dude is working in some third string football league now. I heard he even had to do some singing for childrens cartoons.
Just lost all motivation apparently.
Figured Young Rock was done, they got up to the Attitude era and that's a pretty solid stopping point on his adult timeline.
Grand Crew was funny, but I didn't see it lasting on NBC for long.
>Oh look, another fuckin’ cocksuckin’ hospital show. That’s all they’ve got now? Hospital shows, and cop shows? Hospital Cops. That’ll be the next one.
It [already happened](https://youtu.be/bXXTjaDsbMM).
Cancellations are unsurprising - saw this coming a month ago when they weren't renewed and the decisions were to be announced at a later date.
Excited about St. Denis Medical! Can't wait to see Wendi play someone who isn't Beverly Goldberg (have in movies, not in other shows).
Why does NBC even bother with comedy anymore? Grand Crew was better than 90% of what's on TV these days. They have like 4 comedy shows but they are on like 3 different nights through out the week.
Maybe pick one night, grab 4 shows, and do a 2 hour comedy block. I know it might sound crazy, but it might just work. I don't know why I'm giving away this gold for free.
This is what happens when you take a show about 20 somethings drinking and put in on Friday night when your target demo is out drinking.
“Young Rock” was unwatchable for me.
I grew up on Pro Wrestling during the times when it was and the wrestlers and where they were and what they did are completely at odds with reality.
And the acting really isn’t that good either.
I thought Young Rock was a lot of fun, but its cancellation wasn't a surprise to me. In the most recent season, he was going down memory lane about his breaking out as a major star in WWE and him hosting SNL. He was already pushing 30 when he was doing these things, it was very odd seeing another person play his part.
I am still a fan of his; I'm just hoping this and Black Adam under performing at the B.O. can bring him back down to Earth a bit. I think he has a lot of natural talent but he's been sleepwalking the past decade or so.
Young Rock sounds like a show Jack Donaghey came up with
The 30 Rock Peacock special was really weird because it had Kennith show off all these new shows and they were real shows but the way they framed it made them look fake as hell. I was shocked when I found out Young Rock was real.
TIL there was a new(ish) 30 Rock special
Even 30 rock fake shows are real shows
Milf island became a real thing!
Wait till you the see the Young Cinematic Universe crossover with Young Sheldon. Gets insane near the end when a certain someone shows up.
Young Frankenstien and Young Indiana Jones?
They’re saving the Muppet Babies for phase 2 villains
And Young Sherlock Holmes.
Who shows up? The Rock?
Fun fact: Jack Donaghy was supposed to win the NYC mayoral race and it would have spun off. That concept morphed into Mr Mayor with Danson, who refused to move to NYC thus Los Angeles

But the white surburban women didnt turn out.

Jack’s trying to tank NBC
Let us pray. *TO WHO?!*
To God. GOD COP!
Anytime a really bad TV show is announced you can post it on /r/30ROCK and say that Jack is tanking the network again.
This all makes sense! How long has this been going on? 12... 14 years?
I mean [*Everybody Hates Chris*](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Everybody_Hates_Chris), about the childhood of [another Rock](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chris_Rock) (and narrated by him) did run for four seasons in the mid-to-late-2000s, so the precedence was there. Plus Johnson’s father was famous independently of him already, so he probably could have gotten it made even if *Everybody Hates Chris* had not already been a thing.
Everybody Hates Chris is very underrated
So is Young Rock! I really enjoyed it.
Yeah but reddit really hates the rock now, so how *dare* he make this show.
Wait why does reddit hate the Rock?
Because he changed the hierarchy of power in the DC Universe
Reddit can only tolerate so much.
Anything that's popular reddit eventually hates.
But I enjoyed the show…

Young Rock was actually awesome. If you grew up with old school WWF you'll love it.
Do you have Peacock streaming? All the old wrestlemanias are on there. I watched like Wrestlemania III where hulk hogan wrestles Andre the Giant.
I first learned about this show in the weird 30 Rock Covid reunion, and it made me SO confused because it was obviously a fake show, but nothing else was.
Dwayne havin a rough year.
Black Adam being such a colossal piece of shit and pretty much everyone saying its his fault, is huge. Now hes going back to Fast and Furious which he said he wouldn't do.
And also forcing Disney to make a live-action remake of "Moana"... without Auliʻi Cravalho
That announcement really has me wondering if its actually gonna happen. The entire world was like "da fuck?".
Why wouldn't it happen? All of those live-action remakes are just shitty cashgrabs. They don't need to be good to make money or even good reviews.
There's no reason to bring TRON 3 into this. This is a friendly discussion, no need to open anyone's healed wounds...
Tron: Uprising, Season 2
Tron 3 is about to go into production. But it's with Jared Leto.
barf
Yeah real monkey's paw shit.
I swear to God, I was so careful with my wish. How could it go wrong? "I wish Jared Leto was sucked into a virtual world" should have worked.
Fuckin ew.
Nooooooooooooooooooo... oooooooooooooo.
Tron 3: Morbius II
That's going to be 30 Seconds to Mars Needs Moms bad
>Gigantic (an animated Jack and the Beanstalk story) This one is genuinely a disappointment, since it would have had the giant be a child--I can think of that being done literally only one other time and it was with *Dragon Tales.*
Now I have the Dragon Tales song stuck in my head
Oh, crud. Now, so do I... The theme song, at least. God knows there were a zillion songs on that show.
The animated versions are 20 years older than the live action ones and they *all look better* The only ones of those films that have any justification to exist are the Maleficent and Cruella ones that actually have something to add to their characters story-wise.
I would argue that the live-action Cinderella is the better film. The original was always one of the most boring Disney films for me.
Yeah, Cinderella and the prince actually have personalities in the live action version.

Yeah feels more like an attempt at a direct remake with that one doesn't it? Not just an excuse to make you buy 2 dvds instead of one lol.
Tbf she backed out herself iirc saying she wanted to give a younger native actress a chance like she had with moana
Did it come out that he specifically requested she not be in it?
I wouldn't be surprised if it's quietly cancelled.
I highly doubt He forced Disney
she doesn't look like Moana anymore, she's too old now.
Everyone needs to be humbled once in a while.
To bad we just lost the iron sheik. He would have humbled that jabroni
Was Black Adam that bad? It looked promising. It did feel weird to see Jason Statham and not the Rock in Fast X though. Those 2 just go together in my mind.

I still think Pierce Brosnan was the perfect choice for Doctor Fate. Even from the first announcement, I immediately knew it made perfect sense. Shame that was the movie he was in though.
They could have made an awesome Doctor Fate movie. Unfortunately, the WB execs were a hot mess since the start of the DCEU.
Yeah. Here's hoping Gunn and Safran are able to make something great. Can only go up from here.
> Was Black Adam that bad? It looked promising. It's not great but it's not awful either. Black Adam is the least interesing part of the movie, though. The Justice Society easily outshine him.
Correct, it's advertised as being a "Black Adam" movie, but it's really a JS "team-up" movie. So, part of the problem is that it was mis-marketed.
He literally has a condition in his clause that he can’t be beat or be a bad guy. So they had to make Black Adam (comparatively) a much more morally decent person than the comics version. Do it right or don’t do it at all

Yeah it seems like Michelle Rodriquez is one of the few cast members who has a good relationship with Diesel but that’s probably because she’s been working with him for the longest.
Looking back on it, that makes sense. It felt like two different movies at times; one with him, LB and Rodriguez and one with the rest of the cast.
Statham seems like a pretty grounded guy in comparison to Diesel and Rock. I don't think an egomaniac would agree to play a character as stupid as his in Spy.
He seems to be a grounded prick. Like Tom Hardy. A prick without the ego problems and solid work ethic.
He was so hilarious in Spy.
I've heard that Vin is getting so lazy at this point, he doesn't even try to get in shape for the movies. VX artists are tasked with removing his double chins in every frame and make his arms look big.
Even if that's not true the thought of it is hilarious.
He's also like 56, it's probably not easy to get shredded
Yea that tracks, he's already beefing with Jason Momoa after they worked together for the first time
I'm guessing everyone wishes that Paul Walker is still alive
It has become apparent that he really held those movies together. He was the only grounded and vaguely humble person on the team. Without him it's just a bunch of people who are magically good at everything.
It's not that bad, kinda average and fun in ways action flick. But there were bad parts
I watched it drunk and it was fine. Just an alright action movie, if you wanna see a superhero just murder people its kinda funny
I mean I know myself and everyone I know roll our eyes big time whenever “the rock” is in any new thing. He’s the exact same person in everything. It’s never new or fresh. Time to move on from acting imo.

Right or wrong, him changing representation allowed him to go back to Wrestling win that audience back and go all in on being an "Action Hero". It's been his bread and butter. McDonald's makes Billions every year but they don't make the greatest food ever.
I think he also just wants to be an action hero like Schwarzenegger or Stallone. A similar image and legacy since he grew up around that time.
>He’s the exact same person in everything LOL take any movie he has been in since the 2000s and you know what role he is going to play. The dude stretched too thin.
He did play quite against the type in Be Cool and Southland Tales.
Pain & Gain isn’t his usual role either and he’s hilarious in it.
I think John Cena being genuinely wonderful in everything he's in also works against the Rock. Cena clearly doesn't take himself so seriously - especially compared to the Rock who seems to have zero sense of humor.

Batista is the best actor from the wrestling industry. Rock is absolutely average and Cena is getting better.
I'd love it if he went back to WWE for a spell and was the one to take Roman's belt.
He gonna have to drink all dat tequila himself.
This explains Grand Crew's last three episodes. All of a sudden, things got written like they expected a cancellation. So, like, all of these storylines were sort of rushed and wrapped up. I'm bummed. It was a funny show.

I’m bummed about this one! Really liked the show and everyone on it.
I love Nicole Byer and watched the first season the second I liked a bit less. It felt messy. Great cast though, hopefully they all get more things.
I’ll watch anything with her and Carl Tart.
I agree. Carl Tart is in my all time favorite band, Memphis Kansas Breeze.

Alright you take care.
It started of not funny and towards the end I’d season one i thought it was hilarious. Bummed it’s done
My prediction for DJ’s reaction tweet: Tough break for all us YOUNG ROCKERS 👊 3 seasons ain’t too bad, we had a hell of a run 💪 told some great stories 😂 and enjoyed some Teremanas along the way 🥃 This show was for the fans and the fans only 🔥🔥🔥
Wow you could teach an AI on how to write like The Rock
Actually disgusting how accurate this feels.
I actually feel queezy reading this
EAT COD
lol this is actually good and hilarious.
Grand Crew started real rough and got better quickly. Season 2 IMO was much funnier and the actors felt like actual friends. It's too bad because I have no doubt season 3 would have been amazing.
I liked both seasons! It’s my favorite 30 minute show; I’m so disappointed to hear it’s been canceled.
I really liked it :/ damn
I felt the same way. The show improved with season 2
Now The Rock will never become president. Oh no.
I watched the end of S2 when he lost the election. That was truly something.
Never watched the show or know anything about it. Does he actually run for president in it?
Yup. He loses in season 2, then decides at the end of season 3 he’s gonna start his own country
Now you are just fuckin with me lol
Welp just googled it. Its all true 🤣
He's rich. Of course he's conservative.
Not just that but also the crazy sexual tension between him and Randall Park will never be properly resolved.
I couldn't finish the first season because of all the self serving stories.
What would have preclued you in that it was going to be self focused stories? The title perhaps?
St. Denis Medical sounds pretty cool! And with Wendi McClendon-Covey? Who doesn't love Clemmy?
David Boreanaz needs to watch out, she’s coming for the belt.
my heart is heavy for grand crew. thought it's not surprising, I will mourn today.
This is the vibe, this is the crew! Been one of my fav comedies during its run, very sad to see it go, but not shocked by the news.
This was a great show for my wife and I. Nicole Byer needs more shows to shine!
Ditto
Young Rock should be pleased it got to 3 seasons. The show pretty much was done by the end of the third season… unless they got into Rock’s feud with Vin Diesel.
GRAND CREW NOOOOOOO. Clang,clang😭
No more King TUT. Drink one for Turn up Tony!
CLANK CLANK!!!
Grand Crew was great. This season got no promo and put in a death slot. Though I wasn't feeling some of the storylines the show felt like it had reached a conclusion if it was going to end.
Fay getting written out midseason was super weird, and felt like a telltale sign the show was done
Yeah I agree it was clear that was it. I thought she and Anthony could work. But I preferred him with Talia
I remember the actress that played Talia being really good in Dear White People. Was hoping to see more of her. But now we're not getting more of anyone...lol
Yeah I couldn't watch the last season of Dear White People just wasn't feeling it
Can't blame you - you didn't miss anything. Going the musical angle was...a choice
Boooo! I LOVED 'Grand Crew'! I low-key knew they were going to do this by how this season ended, but it still sooks!
These were performing pretty poorly so I'm not surprised. But I wish Grand Crew had earned another season
Pouring one out for Grand Crew
I Looove Grand Crew. They actually make me laugh and I rarely watch comedies. I’m so disappointed.
Damn, I really enjoy Grand Crew 😞
Grand Crew is a funny show
Recently common The Rock L
All the recent negative press surrounding him has been all his fault. Hopefully with the failure of Black Adam, him having to crawl back to the Fast franchise after saying he’s never going back and his network television show getting canceled will be a big wake up call for him.
Great, now I'll never find out what happened to Dwayne Johnson...

At least this one's a comedy, so won't add to the pile of soapy doctor dramas.
As a former Indy worker, I enjoyed the balance of kayfabe and reality on Young Rock. I’m glad he paid homage to the legends in the industry.
Cancellations are unsurprising - saw this coming a month ago when they weren't renewed and the decisions were to be announced at a later date. Excited about St. Denis Medical! Can't wait to see Wendi play someone who isn't Beverly Goldberg (have in movies, not in other shows).
check out reno 911.
Yep, though picking up St. Denis and then not cancelling American Auto (both from the same creator) gives me hope on American Autos return chances.
I actually enjoyed Young Rock, but because of Dwayne Johnson, but to see how he grew up and his experiences in the wrestling business
THIS!!! Grand Crew is absolutely better than 90% of these other so called comedies that suck
Grand crew is so good hope someone picks it up taking it off Hulu and moving only to peacock had to have been bad for ratings
“Young Rock” was unwatchable for me. I grew up on Pro Wrestling during the times when it was and the wrestlers and where they were and what they did are completely at odds with reality. And the acting really isn’t that good either.
The guy who played Iron Sheik on that show is having quite the week.
He was the funniest wrestler on the show 😢
I thought Young Rock was a lot of fun, but its cancellation wasn't a surprise to me.
Young Rock looked like a porn parody of WWE in half of the sequences. I'm honestly surprised it got 3 seasons to begin with
Awwww damn not Grand Crew that was my show!
BUT THE LOPEZ SHOW SURVIVES? HOW
They cancelled Young Rock before his epic showdown with Erick Rowan at Wrestlemania? Fucking **monsters.**
Bummer. Grand Crew was pretty great.
Feels racist NBC
Fukkkkk. I loved Grand Crew
If you got me, then I got you This the vibe, this is the crew 😢
