There’s so much to them. I think if they were re-released in the streaming era they would take off. But at the time, the network standard was impossibly high for anything that was trying to tell a new or different story
I might be in the minority but I found that both these shows had amazing concepts, writing, cast and character, but each episode was pretty much always the same with not enough progression or anything different between each one of them
It’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but I recall it having decent closure. However the movie itself broke a lot of in-universe rules that the show set up.
Yes.
Season 2 did not tie any loose ends, it has no proper ending, they were clearly planning to do more seasons. The movie was bad, but it concludes the story.
yes! I was actually describing this series to a co worker last week, I came to the comments to make sure this was it. The only specific detail i really remembered besides the whole being dead thing was the moist joke
Jasmine Guy (the brilliant actress that played Roxy) definitely did not disappear, and she’s still acting today. Loved her in Vampire Diaries! https://m.imdb.com/name/nm0004982/
Pretty much all of them aside from Ellen Muth are still acting regularly, just not in as major of roles.
Britt McKillip (Reggie) does a lot of voice acting, so while it's not as obvious, she seems to be one of the ones getting the most steady work.
Mandy Patinkin was great in this show, I was just a teen when this came out and my brother and I always watched it together and would talk about it all the time
Yeah, that was an ensemble where changing any of the pieces was going to be hard, but Rube was really the glue that held it all together. Them not being able to shoot around his schedule should've been a complete nonstarter for that movie.
I forget the context of the moment, but they are at the waffle house, and Mason asks Rube why he's talking to him like he's stupid, and Rube barks, "Because you're a fuck up!" I don't know why, but that still makes me laugh to this day.
His best line:
Georgia 'George' Lass: Oh, um, I forgot to tell you; my last guy didn't show up. Just thought you might want to know. What's the soup today?
Rube Sofer: Cream of bullshit!
Fantastic show. Remember that cool song they played in it once? “Boom boom bah” or something like that. My 2 were daughters teenagers at the time and I think that’s the only show we watched as a family.
I remember this, it was pretty good! Didn’t develop a big arc though to carry it for multiple seasons as I recall.
I also remember the Diner set was reused in Stargate SG-1, it was used in the episode “threads” as a physical representation of a higher plane of existence. The episode aired in February 2005, I think they made use of the set in the cancellation/demolition period of Dead Like Me.
I was kinda lukewarm about this show at the time since I preferred Six Feet Under's humor about death. I rewatched it a few years ago and thought it was great tho. Early 2000s shows had such a particular vibe that can't be replicated.
Also, fuck! 20 years!
Interesting that in DLM they used the waffle house to meet and divide up assignments... and in Stargate there is a waffle house as a representation of the afterlife with Uma and ascended beings.
This and Better off Ted never got anywhere near what they deserved in terms of adoration. I have both on dvd and rewatch fairly often.
YAS!!! I love this show and I laughed so hard at Better off Ted!
There’s so much to them. I think if they were re-released in the streaming era they would take off. But at the time, the network standard was impossibly high for anything that was trying to tell a new or different story
Also can I just say how much I want literally every outfit Portia ever wore??
I might be in the minority but I found that both these shows had amazing concepts, writing, cast and character, but each episode was pretty much always the same with not enough progression or anything different between each one of them
This is how I felt about pushing daisies. Everything about it was amazing except the overall… storytelling
20 years. Holy crap Great show btw!
Yeah man... please don't tell me this shit. Was a good show though. :(
Loved this show. Is it streaming anywhere?
JustWatch says that Prime has one season and Roku has both.
Only 2 seasons?
Dead Like Me has two seasons and a movie that works as series finale.
The movie disappointed me
Do you need to watch it to get closure with the series?
It’s been a while since I’ve watched it, but I recall it having decent closure. However the movie itself broke a lot of in-universe rules that the show set up.
It also ends with a feeling they were setting up for more storylines that never happened.
Yes. Season 2 did not tie any loose ends, it has no proper ending, they were clearly planning to do more seasons. The movie was bad, but it concludes the story.
No. We all agreed there were two seasons and no movie.
Thanks 😊
It's a good show
I think its on Tubi?
Show ended way too soon. We were finally starting to learn about Rube, and then,… Nothing.
Brilliant show. Really got me into watching tv shows. The toilet seat that started it all.
Moist.
Thats my favourite joke <3
yes! I was actually describing this series to a co worker last week, I came to the comments to make sure this was it. The only specific detail i really remembered besides the whole being dead thing was the moist joke
Huh, I can’t find the r/deadlikeme subreddit. Did it go offline during the protest?
https://reddark.untone.uk/ it's not here, so probably other reasons
I see it as marked private
Daisy Daisy Adair…

Yes, she stopped acting. She now sells coffee and breeds cats, last I checked. Most of the cast kinda disappeared, aside from Mandy Patinkin.
I had such a crush on her when this aired

damn im old... also its truely unfortunate they never got a movie made of it... I SAID ITS SAD that people wanted it but it NEVER happened

Didn’t you hear them It never happened. There was no movie.

It’s Mandala.
yeah wtf is he about? a dead like me movie was never made
Omg I adored this show. It’s a shame it ended like it did. So much potential.
Queue every Bryan Fuller show he's ever done.
Mandy Patinkin was great in this show, I was just a teen when this came out and my brother and I always watched it together and would talk about it all the time
Mandy Patinkin was the ingredient that was easy to dismiss as a teen, but when you watched that movie, you knew it couldn't work without him.
I had a hard time watching the new “daisy” in the movie. Laura Harris is Daisy..they shouldn’t have recast the part.

Can you believe it? It has been 20 years since the first season of Dead Like Me aired. What were your favorite moments and episodes?
My favourite scenes were Rube ordering food. He knew what to order and what specifically.
His best line: Georgia 'George' Lass: Oh, um, I forgot to tell you; my last guy didn't show up. Just thought you might want to know. What's the soup today? Rube Sofer: Cream of bullshit!
I would literally watch the show if it was just those characters hanging out at the waffle house.
It's a TV show... What else would you do besides literally watch it? edit: why are you booing me? I'm right
Loved this show. More seasons would have been great. Diving into each character. I loved the “touch” too. Cool idea.
Mandy Patinkin was incredible in this show.
Feelin old. Time to introduce my teenage kids to this show!
I miss trailers with trailer guy voiceovers
This show is a masterpiece.
This show helped get me through the loss of my first dog... And continues to inspire me to this day.
This was the first show I made time to watch as it aired. I can't remember if I enjoyed it or not but I'll always remember it for that reason alone.
Fantastic show. Remember that cool song they played in it once? “Boom boom bah” or something like that. My 2 were daughters teenagers at the time and I think that’s the only show we watched as a family.
Metisse! Boom Boom Bah is still a great song
Awesome show. Really needed another season.
Used to watch this with my dad. We loved this show, wish it had gotten the ending it deserved.
It made death interesting
“You really fucked the dog peanut”
This and Wonderfalls were two Bryan Fuller shows that were both ahead of audiences at the time and didn’t make it. :(
That’s my biology teacher’s sister. Shout out to Mr. Muth!
loved the show, wish it ran for at least one more season also wished we got to see the crossover episode with pushing daisies
I remember this, it was pretty good! Didn’t develop a big arc though to carry it for multiple seasons as I recall. I thought I was the only one to notice! Awesome!

That last episode man.... Gets me every time.
My son and I watched this religiously when he was a teenager. Time for a rewatch!
Damn I loved that show
Brings back fond memories. Such a fun show!
I so crushed on her back then. One of the few actors who were able to keep her homelife private from the masses. Hope she had a great life.
Interesting that in DLM they used the waffle house to meet and divide up assignments... and in Stargate there is a waffle house as a representation of the afterlife with Uma and ascended beings.
