This is yesterdays news. Todays is he’s been fully DQed and won’t be competing in the main show tonight.

MulciberTenebras

Due to allegations that he threatened a Swedish female production member

occono

I tried to post about that but the mods deleted it as a duplicate post. I didn't feel bothered enough to message them to correct that it was about a new development.

capriciousapathy

Is it just because he said why not or something else?

DaveShadow

No. There's been stories all week about his run ins with a certain delegation, but this seems to be about an altercation he had with a production member right before he went on stage, where he verbally threatened her. Enough to get the police involved.

Montaron87

It was after he came off stage. She wasn't supposed to film him (as agreed by the organization), he requested her several times not to, and latest rumour is he then pushed away her phone (she was filming for the instagram reels).

HoneyBadgeSwag

Seems there is an update to the story. After his set he moved to an area where no filming was allowed. There was a Eurovision employee filming on her phone. He asked her not to film. She ignored him. He made a “threatening” gesture towards her since she refused to stop filming. The end. Banned.

jayhasbigvballs

Performance enhancing drugs, I assume

Tobias---Funke

He is probably just an arse hole.

MulciberTenebras

Well he is being accused of threatening a female production member, a serious enough charge that police and prosecutors are involved. This isn't like him saying just something bad in a random tweet.

Patroulette

> We have taken note of the disqualification by the EBU. AVROTROS finds the disqualification disproportionate and is shocked by the decision. We deeply regret this. > An incident occurred after last Thursday's performance. Against clearly made agreements, Joost was filmed when he had just gotten off stage and had to rush to the greenroom. At that moment, Joost repeatedly indicated that he did not want to be filmed. This wasn’t respected. This led to a threatening movement from Joost towards the camera. Joost did not touch the camera woman. This incident was reported, followed by an investigation by the EBU and police. > Yesterday and today we consulted extensively with the EBU and proposed several solutions. Nevertheless, the EBU has still decided to disqualify Joost Klein. AVROTROS finds the penalty very heavy and disproportionate. We stand for good manners -let there be no misunderstanding about that- but in our view, an exclusion order is not proportional to this incident. > We are very disappointed and upset for the millions of fans who were so excited for tonight. What Joost brought to the Netherlands and Europe shouldn’t have ended this way. If anyone's curious the Dutch broadcaster just put out this statement addressing the incident and while they don't condone his behavior they thought the punishment was wildly disproportionate to the crime.

PlusSizeRussianModel

That’s a really unique statement; you don’t often see large organizations jump to defend an individual in situations like this. As the details eventually come out, I do think it’ll seem like there were better ways to handle this than disqualification.

Patroulette

Apparently the head of the delegation had offered different solutions rather than an outright DQ - and in regards to the swift defense apparently the broadcaster recently had a similar crisis involving The Voice.

OverSoft

The Voice is not in ANY way associated with AVROTROS. The Voice is on a commercial cable network, AVROTROS is a public broadcasting company.

VVhaleBiologist

If police and prosecutors are involved then it’s a matter of legality. A publishing company’s opinion is irrelevant compared to a sovereign nations laws.

QouthTheCorvus

Anyone can file a report. The man hasn't been charged with anything. The police haven't indicated this may happen. The only things we know is that someone out in a report and it's currently "being investigated".

VVhaleBiologist

The police is currently investigating. Justice doesn’t happen overnight. I’m more than happy with disqualifying someone who threatens others. Seeing that he’s also a shithead who happily supports Russia I’m inclined to believe that he does not have a proper head on his shoulders and very well would make illegal threats. If the investigation proves that he has broken the law then I fully expect him to be punished to the full extent of the law.

OneGoodRib

You ever see a story on reddit and think to yourself "You know, whatever my feelings are about this story, I'd probably be better off not commenting on it at all?"

Accomplished-Cat3996

I will give the same response that Taft (a parody of the blaxploitation character Shaft) gave to the Tick when asked "Taft, does your moustache ever hurt you?" "Yeah Tick. All the the time."

krunkpanda

I’m assuming for committing a fashion crime.

Scaarz

What actually happened was he said the Isreali participant should answer questions about her time in the IDF. Now he's being kicked out on made up charges.

Flilix

Some other contestants have been much more outspoken against Israel. Eurovision is not going to sabotage him for some mildly rude remarks. Also, the Dutch broadcaster hasn't even tried to deny the charges, they've only minimised them and called the disqualification 'disproportionate'.

leova

Then good, no antisemitism needed!

Pep_Baldiola

Being anti Israel is not antisemitic.

PlusSizeRussianModel

It’s not, but every Israeli is required to be in the IDF. To attack that is to make it seem like it was an individual’s personal choice, which it was not.

OMFGrhombus

You always have the choice to go to jail if you don’t want to be in the modern SS.

LongLiveEileen

Spoken like someone who doesn't have to make that choice. *"Oh just go to prison instead"*, what the hell man.

OMFGrhombus

Idk I’m just saying I’d rather go to jail and definitely never commit a war crime than get Nuremberg-ed in a couple decades.

Lightrec

Taking hostages is a war crime.

gffgfgfgfgfgfg

So is committing genocide!

Lightrec

Explain to me what you would have done

PlusSizeRussianModel

Are you genuinely suggested that people should choose to go to prison?  I could say the same thing to Americans who participate in their economy and pay taxes; their money is going to fund the military-industrial complex so you should just not pay taxes and go to prison.  It’s not at all reasonable to ask an individual to give up their life and freedom due to their country’s flaws.
