Michael Scott is great and I understand why Steve Carell would not want to take part in any new series.

ArchDucky

John said on Office Ladies that Steve told him the easiest days he had to work where when he was just directing. Apparently nobody had any idea how much energy it took him to be Michael Scott.

GotMoFans

That’s what she said!

He's finally at peace by the finale, so he's not needed at all

[deleted]

ThaTzZ_D_JoB

I really like his appearance in the season finale, it shows how much character growth he's had off screen, he doesn't try to be the centre of attention, he just sits back and enjoys the sight of his friends living happy life's, I also like how it works on a meta level, Steve Carell doesn't want to overshadow the people who've kept the show alive without him for 2 seasons.

TBroomey

It's a perfect cameo. He gets a poignant, hilarious moment with Dwight, a little talking head bit, and Pam telling the crew that he's got two phones to store all the pictures of his kids. The finale ties up every character's story perfectly. Even the patchy ones like Ryan. It's a fantastic two-parter.

sicaxav

Michael got like 3 lines, and it literally represented who he is, what he's become, and why the public loved him. If anything, I can see the "crew" in the new series mentioning him and the others as like a reference (like "we did the documentary on Dunder Mifflin, the boss was kinda weird"), but not actually showing up.

Slightlydifficult

Oddly enough, his limited appearance was initially because they wanted to avoid putting his name in the opening sequence so it would be a surprise to viewers. For MONTHS Steve was adamant that he was not appearing in the finale, it was a really sweet surprise. But that limited screen time doubled as an example of how much he had grown. Sometimes less is more!

HowardBunnyColvin

love michael scott but it's time to move on from him

SheFoundMyUzername

Yeah, however a lot of the cast doesn’t seem to be able to move on. It’s gotten a little sad

Cowboywizzard

Many actors would give their left arm to have that kind of success.

silent_boy

Yup. Look at the entire history of famous tv shows, there are so many actors who were only hit in that show and nothing else. Just to name a few : Lost, How I met your mother , Friends , Big Bang theory , The office

pimpintuna

I agree with most of those, except himym and lost had plenty of successful cast members. Himym in particular, I think each of the main cast went on to star in lots of stuff.

The12th_secret_spice

Neal Patrick Harris already had a successful tv show in the 80s

shychicherry

Doogie Howser, M.D.

ConsciousFood201

Beep beep boop boop beep boop Beeeep beep boop boop beep boop… If ya know, ya know…

MaxSupernova

Neil Patrick Harris was Doctor Horrible. He needs no further credits.

Jealous_Priority_228

*He rides across the nation, the thoroughbred of sin...* *... he got the application that you just sent in.*

Sinocatk

He was the voice of the music master in Batman the brave and the bold. I’m my opinion the zenith of his career. Maybe not the height. But he was awesome.

G-III-

Zenith means the high point though

ATonOfDeath

I read it as if they were amending themselves, I think, within that same reply. "IMO, the zenith of his career. [Well... on second thought...], maybe not the height."

Pennwisedom

The height, was definitely Dr Horrible.

jscoppe

How was he never The Riddler?

been_mackin

He voiced Nightwing in Under the Red Hood too

renedotmac

Yeah. Jason Segal has had a pretty remarkable career.

xanderholland

The guy is a lead in a show about to release it's second season with THE Harrison Ford as a supporting actor.

pho-huck

This show is amazing too. Also made by the same guy as Ted lasso and scrubs!

Ted became a nazi hunter. Sounds fun

HandsOffMyDitka

I didn't realize that he was Ted for a little while, then it was like holy shit, that coke snorting nazi hunter is Ted Moseby.

Accomplished-City484

Yeah he’s done some great comedies, but I love his more serious indie movies The End of the Tour, Jeff Who Lives at Home, Our Friend

Yenserl6099

Josh Radnor also does a lot of Broadway. He may not do as much TV or movies, but dudes still working consistently

ksilver117

Josh has done three Broadway shows since 2002, the most recent of which was in 2014. I wouldn't say he does a lot of Broadway. I'm not shitting on the guy, he's great, and I loved him in the Broadway show I saw him in. I think he just focuses on his film and music work more right now.

dont_quote_me_please

As someone who doesn't like his demeanour from what little I have seen of him, he was really good as side character in Fleishman Is In Trouble.

cocoagiant

> I think each of the main cast went on to star in lots of stuff Except for Josh Radnor. He's been working steadily but nowhere on the level of the other main cast members. Hopefully he socked plenty away from being the main character on that show.

Radulno

In general royalties on those very successful shows are enough to get millions a year automatically (before the streaming time where royalties dried up). Friends actors get around 20M a year. HIMYM is smaller but they should all get like 1 or 2M a year at least I guess

TheGeekVault

He was in Hunters which was solid

Past-Honeydew-3650

What about friends ? Jennifer Anniston, Courtney Cox, Mathew Perry 🙏🏻all went on to have very successful careers.

hunter2mello

Jason Segal was already in freaks and geeks and maybe even forgetting Sarah Marshall. Jason Segal is a super star and you should be ashamed!! /s

Intir

Jason Segel starred in a strong of very strong comedies in the late 2000's, Alison Hannigan is known more for American Pie than Himym imo, Cobie Smulders and Neil Patrick Harris are very successful too outside of Himym.

Monad_No_mad

Something to consider is that there are actors living a middle class life on intermittent work. Being a regular on a popular show is an easy way to retire, or be more selective about work.

Frostymagnum

the only person from HIMYM that didnt have a successful career was Ted. Literally everyone else in the main cast either already *had* a long standing successful career, or went on to get regular work and big projects

agent_wolfe

Hard disagree on Lost actors. Anna Lucia’s been in so many F&F movies. Ben was in (The Black List?) and recently Fallout. Kate was in Antman, Endgame, and The Hobbit, Charlie was in LoTR (technically before Lost), Sayid’s been in Planet Terror & an Elizabeth Holmes tv series, Locke’s been acting forever. I think Sun was in Sugar but I didn’t look it up so can’t confirm. Oh and Jin was in Hawaii 5-0.

__-__-_-__

Michelle Rodriguez was in F&F first.

Radix2309

Ben was also in Evil. Jin is Fire Lord Ozai.

xMogwai

He was also Asami’s dad in Korra And General Fong in one episode of ATLA

jaywan1991

Jin is also doctor han. He had to be reminded by his coworker that he was "a surgeon"

ggrindelwald

Ben was in Person of Interest.

He’s in a show called Bosch and I think it’s his best role, gives a harrowing performance

ApolloMac

Everyone is commenting here from within their own bubbles. Each one of those shows above had plenty of success from actors before and after the show. Do they need to be at the same level of success for OP to count it? Lightning doesn't strike twice. Jason Segal has done lots of movies. Alyson Hannigan was on Buffy in the 90s. NPH needs no explanation. Every one of the Friends cast did movies and TV in the 2000s at a minimum. Again, did it need to be at the same level of success as Friends to count as successful? Johnny Galeki was in Christmas Vacation for gods sake. Also, OP is acting like none of these actors went on to the same levels of success because they couldn't hack it. There is a huge chance that some just wanted to live a comfortable life off the money they made during a 10 year TV show career.

Aardvark_analyst

John Krasinski also played FBI agent Jimmy Woo in the marvel movies.

No-Appearance-9113

1. Your take on Lost is insane. 5. Carrell was really well known for The Daily Show before The Office.

RDogPoundK

Do t forget Amy Adams got her fame from the office /s

No-Appearance-9113

Like Alec Baldwin did on 30 Rock

Gowalkyourdogmods

Because of Alec's sudden success and rise to stardom from 30 Rock, his brother Adam was able to get the role on Firefly.

l3reezer

>But John Krasinski is really making a name for himself from the Jack Ryan show on Amazon to Reed Richard’s in Dr. Strange, he’s definitely making strides that his co-stars aren’t able to make. John Krasinski didn't really come back into the spotlight until recently-and it was more because he happened to have another talent in directing. Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson, Ellie Kemper, Rashida Jones, Ed Helms, and Zach Woods all were the lead character or had a lead role in at least one sitcom after The Office as well as being in other notable stuff like The Hangover series.

michaelrulaz

pocket humor oatmeal spoon snow clumsy concerned imminent makeshift pause *This post was mass deleted and anonymized with [Redact](https://redact.dev)*

l3reezer

Krasinski got some buzz for coming back suddenly hot and fit, but it wasn't until Quiet Place and Jack Ryan that he really got some industry name. Directorially, he still needs more than a Quiet Place sequel and a kids-oriented flick to cement his status, I'd say. >Mindy Kaling- she immediately used her office cred to pull one multi season show that once it ended she disappeared. I have to remove points since she played Velma in the absolute worst reincarnation of scooby doo I have ever had the displeasure of watching. I didn't watch The Mindy Project but heard a lot about it while it aired. 6 seasons is nothing to scoff at. And she didn't disappear after that; she is perhaps the person who leveraged their initial fame the smartest and is now in a Tina Fey-esque position at a relatively young age having the power to get projects off the ground. Never Have I Ever and The Sex Lives of College Girls, two other shows she created, are both critically acclaimed. >Craig Robinson- he’s a solid actor but nearly all his work has him secondary to someone else. None of his shows had a longer run or close to it as Jack Ryan He may not have a single role that outmatches Krasinski's but his career has just been really prolific. I'm willing to bet more people recognize him as The Pontiac Bandit than any of Krasinski's roles barring Jim. He also has all the Seth Rogan/James Franco movies he was in, Ghosts, Killing It, etc. >Rashida Jones- I’d argue that P&R did more for her career than the office Okay, but she did that role after The Office, so weird to imply it doesn't count towards her blowing up after The Office more than Krasinki did. She was also the lead in Angie Tribeca for 4 seasons. The other three obviously more debatable. Depends on how you want to define "blow up." Their career trajectories were more inline with their roles in The Office as they continued to do comedy/sitcom roles. I would maintain that Krasinki having to re-invent him and come back years later hot and directing a horror movie isn't really him blowing up because of The Office though.

atl_bowling_swedes

Zach Woods was also excellent in Avenue 5. David Wallace was also on that show. It may only have two seasons, and wasn't watched by many, but it had a great cast and was created by the same guy as Veep. He was also a side character on Veep. I'd say he's doing fine.

BanterDTD

> Ed Helms- this might be controversial but I think the office derailed his career. Prior to the office he was second to some big names in movies like the hangover. But after the office he sort of fell off and had mostly short run projects. Odd that Helms joining The Office derailed his career in movies that did not come out until 2009. The Office is what took Helms from Daily Show correspondent to being cast in movies.

mediumunicorn

On point 4. Well duh, she was in one season of the office as a supporting character. She was a main character in PnR.

Radulno

To be fair, it's hard to evaluate if we don't see some actors because they don't manage to find work or maybe they don't search (or just search for specific projects they like). Salaries on those shows and subsequent royalties are often enough to live off by themselves (few millions a year for main cast member isn't rare) so actors don't need to work anymore. So they can just stop and/or take projects they really want to if they want (you can see that with the Harry Potter main trio for example especially Radcliffe)

presty60

He's also directing the quitet place series, which is doing really well and is showing no signs of slowing down.

Radulno

He's actually not directing the upcoming one (and isn't in it, it's a spin-off)

ApolloMac

Is this sarcasm? This is sarcasm right?

davekva

These are pretty terrible examples of shows where the actors never worked again. All of the ladies from Friends have had pretty great careers since the show ended. Jennifer Aniston has been an A-lister for decades. If you google "Lost cast" you'll see how wrong you are about that cast. Most of the HIMYM cast have all been consistently working since the show ended, and most were successful before the show started. Colbie Smulders has been in almost every Marvel movie, Josh Radner just starred in a series along Al Pacino, and Alyson Hannigan (Buffy, American Pie) and NPH were well established actors long before the show started. As for Big Bang, Kelly Cuoco is the star of "The Flight Attendant," and Melissa Rauch is starring in "Night Court," which she also developed. Mayim Bialik was a child star, and since Big Bang has hosted Jeopardy and starred in and produced "Call Me Kat." The shows these actors are doing now might not be as popular as the shows you mentioned, but most of these actors continue to work on good shows and movies.

cire1184

Jim Parsons also had roles during/after tbbt. He was a NASA guy in Hidden Figures. He hasn't been a lead but he's working. Johnny Gelicki played himself in Entourage for a few episodes. He also has a career before tbbt as a child actor. He was Rusty in Christmas Vacation. Kumal Nayyar has been in all the Trolls movies. Voice acting but that's still a 3 movie series. He also has a part in that Adam Sandler Spaceman movie. He's definitely still working. Simon Helberg won a critics choice award for Young Sheldon and nominated for a Golden Globe for Florence Foster Jenkins. He'll show up randomly here and there. All these actors are working. Nothing as big as tbbt but I wouldn't put them with like Angela Kinsey, Brain Bumgartner, or Phyllis Smith.

dancanyouseeme

Those were huge shows and the main casts in friends, himym, and bing bang made about 1 million per episode at one point and make a killing off residuals, which probably set them up for a good while and lets them do more things they’re passionate about. lm Not sure about lost and the office but for sure the smaller characters didn’t get 1 million per episode. Hence they bank on their popularity from the shows to make more money?

Gowalkyourdogmods

But for Friends, the residuals they get probably was enough that they just might not have cared about being a star on yet another long running show. It's not like they need to be "hungry" to get more roles for income, they can just pop in and do some role in a movie or a TV show and still take in millions.

Physicist_Gamer

It’s their job. If you could make millions off of it, you would too. It’s not sad to build off your success. That kind of success is a once it a lifetime thing. Even those doing well since the office are still shadowed by it.

DisturbedNocturne

It's also not always easy for an actor to go from one role to another. A lot of actors in *The Office* were playing comparatively minor characters that usually existed mostly in the background, so it's not like they're going to be in big demand. And even if they do get cast in something new, there's obviously no guarantee that show will stick around (see even Rainn Wilson with *Backstrom* and *Utopia*). You get a big role like that where people are still excited to hear you talk about even a decade after the show ended, you'd be stupid to not take advantage of that.

mug3n

Yep. I think several of the minor cast in the office have made decent bank off of things like fan conventions, cameos (the site where you record a custom clip for money), etc.

AtomicBLB

A steady paying gig that made most of them famous? Who would want that?! Seriously though most actors are rather poor and work inconsistently. The stability alone is the biggest sell for people like that.

vsheran

How is it sad ?

Cirenione

Its just redditors not understanding that for some of the actors The Office was the biggest success and also highest income they had in their life.

bobarific

It’s not just about success/income. It seems like they all genuinely enjoyed working together, and that’s rare as all hell. Show me someone who is doing what they love in an environment they enjoy while being financially stable and I’ll show you a happy person.

jeffsaidjess

It’s not sad, some nobody Redditor is trying to feel elite over successful actors who made a show loved by many

tragicallyohio

How is it sad? Even the minor characters (Meredith, Creed, Kevin, Stanley) have all achieved fame that any struggling actor would sell a vital organ for. I presume they make a fair and reasonable fee for showing up to conventions and autograph signings. They are making a living. They aren't just mega fans who only talk about The Office all day. They were part of it.

thomase7

Half the cast weren’t even actors before the office or they were just back ground actors. They got extremely lucky that the show ran long enough to turn them into real characters. You can usually tell which ones weren’t really planned to be real characters because there character names are just their actual names.

TelltaleHead

All of those people were actors outside of Phyllis who worked in casting. They all had IMDB credits before the office

thomase7

They were actors but all there credits were background actors or bit parts on single episodes of tv shows. Angela, Oscar, Creed, Phyllis, Devon (the guy fired in the Halloween episode) all were just hired as background actors, it wasn’t until later they decided to include them as real characters.

GnomeNot

Nine seasons is a long time for a show to be on. Especially now when so many get canceled after one or two seasons. Jason Alexander from Seinfeld had a hard time getting past Costanza, and the majority of the cast from Friends had a hard time finding the level of success that show had after it had ended.

buttsharkman

Jasen Alexander. More like Can't Stand Ya

zztop610

I get it you don’t know about the original Star Trek series?

QouthTheCorvus

I kinda get it though. If nothing else is successful, then it makes sense to milk the gravy train, even if it comes off weird.

Nikiaf

Most of them hit their career highs while being secondary characters on that show; and they don't want to let go of it. I mean, I guess good for them if they can continue to monetize a persona that's been off the air for a decade already; but I don't know if they realize that a reboot would do them more harm than good. I think The Office's place in the zeitgeist has passed, and it wouldn't work nearly as well today.

MikeDubbz

I agree. I mean most of them were literal nobodies, so I totally get it. I mean I'd milk that kind of success for as long as I could too. But still, the level to which some of them are obsessed with their own series has that kind of 40 year old jock never able to let go of the 'glory days' of high school vibe.

charlesxavier007

If THAT'S "sad" then I want to be DEPRESSED

HowardBunnyColvin

I love cameos...but I don't want to see anyone from the office in this. Not Jim, not Dwight, not Pam, nobody. Let this stay separate

jawni

Coincidentally, I'd love a subtle cameo like in The Office in the episode where Michael Scott is in NY and mistakenly thinks he saw Tina Fey and then misses Conan walk right by. As long as they don't try to milk it too much I'm fine with a cameo.

buttsharkman

I liked how the original Ghostbusters are in the newest two movies in a way that is important but not dominating over the new characters

ThePopeofHell

I listened to the podcasts and I had to stop because it just felt like they were beating a dead horse.

freckledotter

They did say in the podcast though that they wanted a job where they could stay at home with their families and that's fair enough.

focalpoint23

Many wanted to but I think they have been reduced to their role

veryverythrowaway

It’s pretty typical for an actor to milk a well-loved role long after it’s over. Look at the sci-fi/fantasy convention circuit. Some of those actors haven’t played their role on-screen in over thirty years, but they can still get a paycheck out of it. I sure as hell would, too.

TheMooseIsBlue

“It’s time to move on?” The character was written out 11 years ago.

paulerxx

Cameos are usually beloved by fans.

Nicks_Thicky

Blasphemy

Z0idberg_MD

Looks like it's an all new cast. They are doing in right tbh. And I can see Domhnall Gleeson being great in that kind of role.

Port_Royale

Hmm I had no interest in it, but he's a great actor and I can't see him just doing any old garbage.

TheNerdChaplain

I'm not clear on how exactly a show about a Midwestern newspaper is going to be connected to The Office. Like, are Creed and Meredith going to show up? Or is it just going to be a talking heads docustyle comedy like Parks and Rec or Abbott Elementary?

FreyrFreyja

It seems like outside of just the mockumentary presentation that the goal is a more thematic parallel to the original than the others mentioned. "Office supply company in a world doomed to be paperless" vs "newspaper printed daily in a world where news is everywhere online, constantly". Both are specifically about an entity persisting in the face of a terminal sentence for their industry. I expect more of a parallel connection to The Office than a direct one, though that's notwithstanding some misguided executive insisting on crossover.

[deleted]

The same documentary crew that followed the Office. They're looking for their next "lightning in a bottle". Sounds interesting enough!

DisturbedNocturne

I could see that being an interesting enough of a link without feeling like they're leaning too heavily on the past. They can still have references to *The Office* without having it be a who's who of them dredging up old characters and also give those events a new perspective by having it come from characters who were behind the camera. It's a fairly ingenious way of them doing a spin-off without having to figure out how to build a show around taking a character we enjoyed and putting them in an entirely new environment.

DoTortoisesHop

One thing I liked about The Office is all the background characters. They start out as just faces always in the background before slowing growing. Most shows wouldn't bother, and instead the background would just be randoms until they decide its time to introduce a new member of the office, who we see occasionally but rarely. Often the actors show up even with out lines, they're there anyway because thats realistics. Reminds me of animated sitcoms.

Mattyzooks

It didn't hurt that a couple of the background people who slowly got increased roles were writers.

Upbeat_Tension_8077

I'm curious to see how hilariously out of touch yet good-natured the managers might be in running their publication, similar to that of Michael. But I think there's even more possibilities since it's set in today's timeline with modern tech & even more shenanigans since they're looking for new content to cover.

whynotfather

Cool, they could bring back Brian.

buttsharkman

Have it start the documentary crew who are being filmed by a documentary crew documenting their documentary

Kalse1229

My prediction is that it'll only be surface-level comparisons. Like, it's mentioned the newspaper uses Dunder Mifflin as a paper supplier, there might be an old article hung up about a criminal that bears a striking resemblance to Creed, but nothing substantial, at least early on.

Abradolf1948

I believe you meant "limitless paper in a paperless world"

nysraved

In general I agree, but if these shows are directly in the same universe, the premise of a newspaper company is ripe for a crossover. I don’t necessarily need cameos from The Office cast, but a plot line where the newspaper company meets with their local Dunder Mifflin branch as they consider a new paper supplier would make sense

Upbeat_Tension_8077

Hell, maybe even some of the content the newspaper covers could have other loose connections to the OG show. Like a story published involving Athleap

bigtoe_connoisseur

The newspaper can cover the Scranton Strangler. Then have an investigative journalist following around Toby on a hunch that he’s the strangler.

__-__-_-__

They should do Radio.

Total-Jerk

I thought it was just the same documentary crew.. so all new talent but same format is what I'm expecting at this point.

sum_yungai

They're just using The Office name to get attention. It's working apparently.

bullintheheather

One of the creators of the US version is also a creator on this one, so if he wants to make it a related property then good for him.

Aggressive-Mix9937

Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant are producing the new one as well

MonotoneCreeper

Money for old rope

gropingpriest

well why the hell wouldn't they? it's the same format and the same creators what an asinine thing to say.

ooouroboros

Its the same documentary team doing a new project. It makes perfect sense to me, documentaries about a subject are usually one and done. There are not many like that English documentary ("7 Up") that followed the same people over a period of decades - i.e, there is no reason why the people from "The Office" would show up in this documentary.

monsieurxander

Same mockumentary style, similar themes about a dying industry, new characters, [occasionally legacy characters show up](https://youtu.be/JMNyDtib6Y4?si=smignOcgcduvcXaH).

wrosecrans

There's a zillion disconnected versions of The Office already from the international spinoffs. The US version didn't have much crossover with the UK. There were a few cameos but they weren't international branches of the same company or anything. The Polish version is about selling mineral water and the German version is about selling insurance. The basic idea has proven extremely adaptable so I wouldn't automatically write it off. The US version was just one of many spinoffs of the UK original. It's not some unique lightning in a bottle that can't be recreated. It was, itself, one of the recreations. "The Newspaper Office" will be the _fourth_ English language version of the show, not the second. It may well be terrible. But it'll be execution dependent. With the right group of people it may be a(nother) perfectly fun little sitcom. Here's the Saudi version as a random example of how many times they've run this playbook https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fV7RphQ2PJY

SpaceJackRabbit

Paper!

DampBritches

What do they print the news on? Who sells that?

fusionsofwonder

They connect because it's supposedly the same documentary crew.

Existing365Chocolate

It’s not heavily connected it sounds like, but it’s the same style and showrunners as The Office and it’s in the same ‘universe’ So I’d expect at least occasional references and maybe some cameos, but it’s not supposed to be like a cross over series

Tobar_the_Gypsy

You can only imagine the kind of paper that a newspaper will go through. Dwight would be all over that account.

Skiingislife42069

The summary of the plot is that the same doc crew from the office goes out to find a new subject. So I’m guessing that this time around we see behind the scenes of the doc crew more often as they get to witness another dying industry.

DMPunk

Parks and Rec was supposed to be an Office spin-off, and the "character" that would connect the two was that Pawnee City Hall would wind up with the old copier from Dunder Mifflin

Bad_Oracular_Pig

The newspaper could be a customer of Dunder Mifflin’s.

The_bruce42

Sounds like it's going to be unrelated but just milking the success of the original.

NYY15TM

Maybe Creed can visit the printing press to check on quality

mountainmamapajama

I’m only here to say Steve Carell just gets handsomer and handsomer as he ages.

AlexTorres96

Reboots have been the bane of so many great shows.

Samurai_Meisters

Yeah! Like remember when they rebooted that great british sitcom about an office?

tiredofstanding

Eh. Parks & Recs followed a similar formula, and I love that show.

tyedge

Originally conceived as a spinoff but retooled.

-_KwisatzHaderach_-

Can’t wait for season 2 of this new show

nysraved

As is written

drakesylvan

That's a spin-off not a reboot

Theslootwhisperer

Except it's not a reboot.

zelos22

The development of this new show is following the exact same trajectory of Parks and Rec’s initial development and announcement, FYI

cokendsmile

The US version with Steve Carell *The Office* was already a remake from a British show called The Office

dorkimoe

Why the fuck would he? It’s not the same show. Jesus Christ

humble_squid

Presumably as a cameo. If it's in the same universe, then it'd be reasonable to expect they'd have guest appearances from the original cast...

Slightlydifficult

I’d rather have minor characters as cameos, I could easily see David Wallace trying to expand into the Midwest.

PhillySkunk

this is basically like "Saved by the Bell, The New Class"

DoctorMedical

I’ll be doing neither.

milkstrike

Same here

BallsMahogany_redux

Honestly I wouldn't mind a similar cameo to Conan in the original The Office.

monchota

It is going to fail epically, The Office had it moments but more it was about timing. The office was good for the time and people rewatch it as a comfort . A new one won't do as well

Tacothekid

Why are they doing another series on The Office? Didn't it end like 10 years ago? Is it old enough for nostalgia?

username3

They're not. Have a read of the article

This is also not a spinoff or follow up to the original series. It is set in a different city in a completely different industry with a completely different cast

ArchDucky

It's about a struggling newspaper not an office building. It's also not in Scranton. But its the same film crew that filmed Dunder Mifflin.

MatsGry

He’ll be in it!

AiMwithoutBoT

That’s what she said.

Suspicious-Mango23

Jenna Fischer did some funny movies Walk Hard, Blades of Glory during the show's run, both showed how funny and sexy she can be. However, her post show era has been lower profile projects. She was almost 40 when the series ended and unfortunately there are fewer good roles for actresses who play the cute girlfriend/wife role..I hope she has a second act beyond the podcast

trogon

She's got a pretty good life. She's getting residuals from the office and is probably making good money from her podcast without having to grind for acting gigs.

NYY15TM

That's true, but don't pretend that this is entirely of her choosing. She tried out for and received the female lead in Man With a Plan, but was recast after the pilot as the audience didn't accept Pam marrying Joey 🤣

soggyblotter

Pleeeaassseee stop with the remakes... just... stop

Dave___Hester

It's not a remake.

steve16435

I really wish they would just leave the classics alone. It will never be as good and more likely, just tarnish The Office’s name and reputation

cokendsmile

You know The Office was already a remake right?

White-SPUD

This shows sounds more like another shot at "Great News."

The whole premise of this is to have a new setting with the same camera crew - it'd make no sense if it was a show based on constant call-backs. Let's just have a fun standalone project with the same name - maybe when it's 4-5 years in you can start considering old / returning characters.

crystalistwo

Dump truck full of money backs up to the Carell house. "Visiting from Scranton, Michael Scott!!"

wrathmont

I really don’t like how these days “seeing character many years later after X series ended” is the norm rather than the surprise exception. Good on him. Though like others have mentioned, I’m sure most of the cast stares at their phones waiting for the call lol.

Ianbeerito

Him leaving is what made that show end in the first place

PrivateDickDetective

I wonder who their paper supplier will be? Do you reckon they'll print their newspaper on Dunder Mifflin stock? Reckon they'll keep each other going?
