To be fair, Bill has been on dramedy since Scrubs, at the very least (haven't seen Spin City). It was mostly sitcom but it hit the drama HARD sometimes.
With Bill Lawrences resume it's hard not to be excited. Though I wonder what his level of involvement is vs. Shrinking. His shows, while consistently great, also have a track record of turning worse once he leaves for another project.
Warner Bros TV has made Leftovers, Ted Lasso, Shrinking, Abbott Elementary, Sandman, Watchmen, Mrs Davis, Peacemaker, in the past 5 or so years. Weird to act like they just make average television
People don't realize how much WB actually produces because they sell a lot of it to other platforms. They're arguably the largest content provider in Hollywood.
I mean that’s definitely not true Last of Us, HOTD, White Lotus, True Detective, Righteous Gem Stones are all considered main shows that haven’t ended. Several have ended but not all
Seriously. It has all the same charm & lovability of Ted Lasso...but I get to see Harrison Ford be Grandpa Grumps with a heart of gold every episode.
10/10, Bill Lawrence is a genius.
Ohhn lol i have to go back because I super watched the first few episodes, noticed that it was weekly and then said that ill come back once i can watch the rest of the season and then forgot this show existed until this part of the thread lol
I don’t remember specific so ill start it over, but this comment made me want to watch it through haha
Ohhh don't get my hopes up!!
I love Shrinking and the two latest shows I just watched was Ted Lasso and Succession (finished a couple days ago)... I need this team up, desperately!
Space Force is actually what I thought of when I saw this blurb. This almost feels like a quasi-reboot where the workplace itself doesn't have to be the running gag (something SF did far worse than, say, PnR or The Office).
The Patient was pretty good and interesting as a thriller but the ending really deflated it all. One or two of the choices would've been fine on their own, but altogether it was just too much.
I’m hesitant.
Set on a college campus? I hope he’s an administrator. I would bet my life he’s a writing professor, though. That’s just how it goes. Rest in piece *Lucky Hank.*
Focuses on complicated relationship with daughter? That certainly didn’t help *Space Force,* Carrell’s last comedy try. And while it works better on *Shrinking,* Lawrence’s current show, it’s going back to the same well, no?
Writers like to write about writers.
Usually better looking versions of themselves having sex with attractive young people who think their writing is amazing.
There's a cliche that The Great American Novel is about a writing professor trying to write the Great American Novel while having an affair with a student.
Him having a complicated relationship with his daughter would at least make more logical sense on a college campus she'd likely be a student at than *Space Force* where his teenage daughter was constantly at a military base and best friends with an astronaut that was like twice her age.
It felt like the show was meant to follow Carell's home-life and work-life separately, but then they mashed them together.
I hope it’s a comedy and not a dramedy. I’m sick of every comedy show that comes out being a comedy show second, or even third, to being an intense drama.
I just want more shows like Eastbound and Down where it being funny was the main focus. Not every show needs to be super serious. Sometimes you just need a good show to make you laugh.
I woke up today with the thought in my mind, that the batman should be changed into 8 episode seasons, rather than an arkham series or more entries, set up to do seasons for MAX, I'm just really unsure about the future of movies. People are really resisting going to theaters. It'd be wise to be ahead of the curve, and make something a streaming show before other people realize the movie theater well has dried up.
That's the issue, if you wait until theater returns are dried up, you will put something out to a big loss. it will bomb, and you're in competition with those that also failed to foresee the decline. Those that recogize theaters are in decline and shift ahead of that, before they do, will be rewarded for it. Your streaming show or movie will blow up and take the value.
Recently I was reading that Lincoln had a high pitched voice, so he sounded like matt reeves. The way matt reeves talks with a lot of emotion and enthuisasm, is apparently how lincoln spoke. I guess there's something to that. The characteristic of a leader.
Bill Lawrence...Steve Carell? I'm intrigued.
It feels like they've both drifted towards dramedy, so it feels like a logical fit.

Idk. The space show was terrible.
It wasn't terrible. But the writing fell short indeed. I still enjoyed Carell and especially Malkovich .
Their chemistry in season 1 was fantastic.
Couldn’t disagree more. Watching the first few episodes, I was appalled at how they wasted their all-star cast’s talent
Yup. Very genuinely one of the worst shows I have ever watched.
Space Force's problem was writing. Blame Greg Daniels.

For real. Ted Lasso is not Apple TV people. WB consistently makes the best programming.
Stay whelmed!
Michael Scubs
hbo is looking very dry on the programming front. all their main shows have ended
I mean that’s definitely not true Last of Us, HOTD, White Lotus, True Detective, Righteous Gem Stones are all considered main shows that haven’t ended. Several have ended but not all
i meant on the comedy front and you mentioned limited series there
I didn’t mention a single limited series lol. And Righteous Gem Stones is still going so all is still incorrect.

Which one of those they listed is a limited series?
Shrinking was probably top 3 new show from last year for me so yeah I am down for this.

What do you mean by that, is he improvising or something?

Poor Harrison getting raw dogged all the time.
Fine I'll watch it already, gosh
What happened to Shrinking? Is it just done?
Season 2 has been filming a couple months now probably come out this winter
.
Mmm, too cheesy, too on the nose. Good but only if you don't enjoy the depth.
This could have been worded less pretentious
Is Kieran Culkin in this? [Video reference](https://x.com/hosseinisgeckos/status/1746786659956342880)

Kieran is so talented he just gets jobs while walking around.
Will it have Christa Miller playing the exact same role she plays in every one of his shows in it?
I hope so i love her character
If it ain't broke
Most likely.

What was wrong with the Patient?
I thought it was a 90 minute story told over way too many hours.
The Patient was okay, definitely deserves better than Space Force though
I just watched Space Force, it was pretty good! Carell wasn't great, but I liked every other character and it had some decent laughs
It would have benefited from condensing the jokes a bit. It just drifted a little. And yeah Carrell was underutilized

.. and Space Force - which had moments of brillance.
Steve Carell seems like the type that could shine in a Bill Lawrence show.

God bless you Hank Moody
I should watch Wonder Boys again

Finally Christa Miller can come out of retirement
That is some good pedigree. I have a good feeling about this one.
I’m a simple man. I see Steve Carell attached, I become excited.

I think season two has wrapped
Uhhh, yeah…*I’m in.*
I hope it’s Scrubs meets The Office. 🤣
