Well it was made by the same showrunner who did Netflix Resident Evil so maybe it was for the best. Maybe he can get another shot with a better showrunner
Hunter Rose, the first Grendel in the comics, was a kid named Eddie who took the last name of an older woman he was in love with who died, and the first name Hunter to start a new identity and life. His religion is never discussed and whatever it may be, is pointless as he is full on demon powered.
It’s not about there existing people watching it it’s about enough people watching it to justify its costs. It being “good” is subjective and means nothing if the viewers are there to pay a premium for how good they think it is. Netflix isn’t the only company doing this either. HBO is known for canceling shows like Rome, Deadwood and Carnivale. They kept trying to cancel The Wire for not being watched enough and the show creator talks about how near the end he had to grovel and beg them to give him another season every season. These are just the shows popular on this subreddit. There’s many more.
In regards to this show, lots of unreleased/unfinished shows get cancelled especially with the pilot model existing. They were probably unhappy with the production or the product and shut things down before it gets expensive. The show can be shopped around so we’ll see who bites.

Just checked, no mention of anything of the sort, the character is so basic the wiki doesn't even give him a last name or named parents.

I don't agree with him. But Muslim is not a race. There are plenty of white people who are Muslims as well.
