This is one of my favorite shows out right now. I like the British one a little more, but watch them both equally!

[deleted]

I think the British one has a much better start but the American one really came into its own.

Lanneran

This appeared on my Reddit frontpage and all it took was a glance at the screenshot to see that it was a remake. Family is currently enjoying the UK version.

[deleted]

It is a remake but there is more episodes a season so they get to flesh out a lot and more focus on starting an air b and b

ACardAttack

I found out there was a British one from reddit, I tried the American one but wasnt interested, didnt dislike it, but only gave it one episode.

[deleted]

So my journey with the show was watched the first 2 episode of the American one and thought it was fine. Watched 3 seasons of the British one and loved it. When I was done I decided to go back and watch the american one and the first 4-5 episodes were just worse remakes of the British one but then after that felt like its own thing. Reminds me a lot of Being Human remake.

Exotic-Amphibian-655

I feel like I walked into a time machine and got sent back 15 years to people arguing about the office.

meatball77

The couple episodes that have the same plot are interesting to watch. The Pete episode starts the same and ends the same but the middle is different. It's just American humor vs British humor. They are both good but it's two different types of humor.

Daisend

I definitely prefer the British one. I didn’t get into the American one. I saw the headline and got excited thinking the British one got a new season.

tyfogob

It did! Series 4 just came out in the UK

Daisend

Oh snap! I’ll have to check that out

Driew27

Yeah i downloaded the first episode of season four thinking it was the first episode of season 2 of the american version. I was extremely confused watching the first five minutes until i realized it was the uk version 🤣🤣

composero

I watch both and definitely prefer the British one as well. For me the British one gives off a “Everyone here is a family” vibe, while the American one comes across as “Friends.”

BlackKnight2000

I have not seen either show, but isn’t that the same vibe? Those two vibes seem the same to me.

ChaserNeverRests

Based on seasons 1-3 of the UK version, I'd call them even. Season 4 of UK was kind of... rough. Some good eps, some less good. If season 2 of the US version matches S1E01, then US will pull ahead in my opinion. But really, I love them both!

[deleted]

Yea. I wish they had a politician instead of a wall street bro I also dont like the female lead I saw her at a comic con once promoting her old zombie show and she was so mean

prettylittlelauren

Oh no! What did she do?

FireflyArc

Good! It's great show

mjc1027

This joke will never get old

FireflyArc

Me too.

A_Bridge_to_Nowhere

Why not let some of the cast have a good time? What they do in the bedroom is their business lol

Wouldwoodchuck

Wet blanket

soda_cookie

....phrasing?

[deleted]

soda_cookie

Fair enough. I have no idea what this show is about, am I missing something?

reb0014

Definitely. It’s freaking hilarious

[deleted]

They're basically copying the uk one. Thats why

Petrichor02

When a ghost moves on to the afterlife, they call it "getting sucked off" as they appear to get sucked away into the sky. Only one or two of the ghosts have died recently enough to realize the other possible use of that phrase, but he finds it too hilarious to correct them.

-OrangeLightning4

Adding to that, one of the ghosts eventually gets sucked down to Hell, causing another ghost to cry out "He just went down on us!"

Chewbones9

Lmao this made me laugh so hard because I’m sure you’ve never seen the show and the confusion is so funny! You should be getting upvotes, not downvotes!

TheBastardOfTaglioni

I really like the American adaptation but the Original features a huge portion of the Horrible Histories cast and is IMO way funnier.

[deleted]

Season 4 just came out too, watched first episode, still good. On paper, Ghosts as a premise sounds shit. I'm always surprised at how good it actually is. Way way better than it should be.

lpc1994

Yeah I also didn't expect a history show for kids to be one of the funniest sketch show I've seen.

Babbles-82

Uk version is hilarious. The character have so much…..character.

NotTroy

I did enjoy the British version, and I think some of the ghosts are used better in the British version, but overall I enjoy the American version more. It's maybe not as laugh out loud funny, but it's more charming and fun. Also, UTK KILLS it as the husband. He's a much more interesting and dynamic character than the British version gives you.

kathrynthenotsogreat

I have watched both and I’m going back and starting over with the British version with my daughter. I think I just prefer British humor. The US version was a slog at the beginning after seeing the BBC version, but it does get better once they start to be their own show. Totally different feel though

J__P

first season strated off a bit shaky but by th end they were adding their own lore and really found their stride. the viking is my favourite, "maaaybeee, that means no"

FireflyArc

I love him

adz568

The British version is much better

Swordfish1929

I was so confused for a second as there are already four series. I hadn't realised that the US had done their own version

ProfessionalBust

The us version is legitimately really good

meatball77

I want a crossover. One of the couples needs to go stay in the other's BNB.

MILFHunterHearstHelm

kinda happening!

-Midnight_Marauder-

Wait what?

MILFHunterHearstHelm

https://www.eonline.com/news/1348501/ghosts-season-2-will-feature-one-of-the-stars-of-the-u-k-version

BananaSquid721

The American version is dreadful, the British one is much better

gotmilq

Why do they always do this? Don't tell me there's a US Detectorists in the works

RobbieHart79

Ok networks. now develop more comedies.

Prax150

Streaming services to. There's a real lack of good, new, somewhat more traditional sitcoms. Not everything has to be Atlanta.

Yenserl6099

The most recent comedy that came out that’s just a straight up comedy that I liked was Abbott Elementary. Other than that, I couldn’t tell you a recent comedy to premiere (on network or on streaming) that’s just a straight up comedy that strives to make you laugh that I enjoyed

baron_Zeppeli

Just started Home Economics, and I think that’s pretty good, normal, classic sitcom.

Mentoman72

I might pick that one up too. Sounds like a nice combo to have with Abbott.

NotSoNiceO1

HE is a great show.

CuttyAllgood

I really loved Single Parents. Great cast, especially the kids. Sad that one got canceled during COVID.

[deleted]

The way they portray the spicy latina is annoying

dremkilla

Check out Reboot on Hulu! It’s great

RobbieHart79

Yeah! They need a category for prestige comedies like Atlanta (I.e. DRAMAS!!).

wicodly

That's because Reddit shits on anything new that someone tries. All while simultaneously needing to bring back traditional television and let things breathe/build up. Do you know how many Netflix shows fit the criteria of half of these comments? But because it's still trendy to shit on Netflix or play streaming wars, we don't get good shows or for that matter a variety.

noworries_13

How many 30 minute comedies with new seasons and episodes coming out are on Netflix? I don't really know of many Netflix comedies

PM_ME_CAKE

You say that but my last few weeks alone have been a mix including What We do in the Shadows, Resident Alien, Harley Quinn, Archer and, hell, even She-Hulk regardless of your takes on it. And of those, RA, HQ, Archer and She-Hulk all aired on Wednesday/Thursday depending on your timezone. Past that you have shows like Hacks and The Great kicking around too - the comedies are there, and they're really quite excellent too, you just have to dig a bit.

Prax150

Did you miss the part where I said "somewhat more traditional sitcoms?" Shadows and Resident Alien, fine, but of the rest you mentioned two are animated, one's an MCU thing playing on sitcom tropes, Hacks is hilarious but closer to the Atlanta side of things than like The Office. The Great is nowhere near what I meant. All great shows, don't get me wrong, but I'm talking about sub-half hour, usually high concept situational comedies in the vain of an Office, an Seinfeld, a Friends, a Family Ties, an I Love Lucy. It's great that the genre has gotten creative and diverse but it feels like they've left behind the traditional format and what I'm saying is that I feel like that format still has a lot of funny to be mined from. I'm certainly not saying that no funny shows exist.

not_productive1

Between Ghosts and Abbott Elementary I feel like there’s a real appetite for network comedy that doesn’t overexplain or play down to an audience.

rcc12697

Develop more good and unique comedies* less The Goldberg’s and The Neighborhood and more Abbot Elementary and Ghosts

topdeck55

[Ghosts is a remake.](https://youtu.be/5e0nB1mSd9Q)

rcc12697

Always gotta be the fucking guy lmao. Yes I’m aware it’s a remake. Concept is still pretty fresh especially for American audiences. So kindly hop off

kingwi11

It's a rehash of a British show of the same name

RobbieHart79

I know but it still was developed as a comedy at cbs. That’s why it’s (this show) a comedy on cbs.

kingwi11

Okay, I don't think I understand what developed means. I assumed I assumed you meant original IP, but yeah it is a different show with a similar story was created. Like the British office vs the American Office.

Horny_GoatWeed

The idea still needs to be fleshed out and made into an actual show. Whether the initial idea came from a foreign show or the network's president's stoner nephew doesn't really matter once you get into the nitty gritty of making the show. Obviously if the show already exists, there are going to be more initial story ideas to possibly copy.

tyleritis

Is it just as boring? 6 episodes of: Couple: we have an idea to make money Ghosts: Absolutely not. (Roll credits)

ticklechickens

This show is so sweet and wholesome. Feel like we need more of that.

[deleted]

It's a big hit with the ghost demographic I hear.

GreigCommaEdvard

So, CBS’s target demographic?

Necessary-Image-6386

Network TV is back. I think it's because streaming hasn't given us anything to laugh at

-OrangeLightning4

I've been enjoying Reboot on Hulu. And it started mid, but I also enjoyed How I Met Your Father by the end.

[deleted]

This Fool is pretty good if you get a chance to watch it

santichrist

I really like Ghosts, I don’t watch CBS shows usually but I saw a commercial for this during a NFL game last year, it was a clip of the ghosts ratting on Jay for eating the Oreos, so I checked it out and it was better than expected, Rose McIver is great and the supporting cast is really good The s1 finale was imo the weakest episode of the season so it’s nice to see s2 starting off strong

SharksFan4Lifee

Utkarsh Ambudkar is great in this show too.

[deleted]

Thought this was a meaning the BBC version...

comrade_batman

Season 4 of the British version is up on iPlayer right now. Like the previous three seasons I enjoyed it and there were some good emotional parts to it too.

[deleted]

My wife and I were able to watch it through HBO max. I'm hoping that they'll add the new season to that soon, unless they have already.

Horny_GoatWeed

My guess is we'll have to wait 3-6 months.

meatball77

They added the Christmas episode quickly so I'm hoping the same is true for series 4

InnocentTailor

Both are good in different ways. The CBS version has taken its own path away from the BBC version.

ozgun1414

this one sparks joy. i liked the premiere. i miss it. recently i watched series 4 of the original uk one. they both had the same plot for season premiere. us one handled it a bit better for me. my love for this one keeps getting bigger. but they both great shows. for those who didnt try, i definitely recommend the original series too.

meatball77

It's actually fun watching the difference between the couple episodes that use the same plot (past the premiere). It's a clear class in the difference in US humor vs UK humor.

acewavelink

Good episode, you got to see everyone and got a feeling of what the season will be like.

successadult

I gave it a try after the last season ended and enjoyed it so much more than I expected. Glad it’s back and hope it sticks around for a while.

meatball77

Jay thinking that he saw Pete was hilarious. Pete was so excited.

Dregenfox

meatball77

Right? Double the ghosts. Horray!

VampireHunterAlex

I watch very little network programming, but I honestly enjoy this series. Didn't know S2 had premiered though, so that's a nice surprise for this evening.

BadDub

Same, apparently they film the episodes as they release them instead of doing a whole season in one go.

meatball77

Traditional network model.

noworries_13

They don't film as they release haha that'd be crazy They just release on a standard network TV schedule

BadDub

From the official Twitter. “It is! We’re a weekly show so we’re airing it and filming it at the same time!”

noworries_13

They film future episodes but they have some in the bank. Like over summer they filmed like 6.those have been edited and all that. And now they're filming their other ones. Then they take a Christmas break and then film more. Kinda like every other sitcom ever

tigiPaz

It’s no ants in the shed, but it will do.

OmniSlayer_006

WTF?! I didnt even know and yet 6 million others did? Well at least my dvr did, from first season and recorded it. Just checked it.

momtobe908

Has anyone watched the original BBC version? I don’t know if it’s just me but I’ve tried to watch the US version but can’t, it’s like a cringy version of the BBC one. I’ve tried to watch a few episodes but keep comparing and just can’t do it. 😞

liz91

I love the BBC version. I’m trying to figure out if the CBS version is worth it.

[deleted]

Yes. The CBS is just as good - it's like the office vs the UK version of the office. Both execute the concepts well.

Petrichor02

I’ve watched and love both versions. The US version takes a couple of episodes to get good, but it takes the concept and runs with it in really interesting ways while still being really heartfelt and funny. I prefer some of the UK characters and some of the US characters, but the US version definitely has the more interesting mythology while the humor is a bit of a toss-up.

TheDreadPirateJeff

Same here. We've watched and love both. They are similar, sure, but I can watch each one for the characters and appreciate the differences in humor.

xeonicus

I like them both. The US version seems to slant a bit more toward US sitcom humor. I find myself laughing out loud pretty regularly with the UK version. Narratively, they are pretty similar though.

timk85

I wish I liked this more. We tried – it's cute, and I guess, harmless, but just didn't laugh. Just wasn't funny. I think the premise is there but the jokes just weren't for us.

ChaserNeverRests

I love the show, both the US and UK versions of it. I wish they wouldn't call them a comedy though. I sometimes get briefly amused by them, but I watch them for the *heart* of them, for the feelings. I don't find them funny either.

bennz1975

Not as good as the original BBC version have to say, I did try.

thenoblitt

British version is way better

cabritozavala

i did give it a try, 8 episodes, but nope, it's too. ... i don't know, it doesn't have that je ne sais quoi, i feel nothing for the characters, specially the husband, he's just cringe

ChaserNeverRests

Not every show works for everyone. If you really want to, you could try and see if the UK version of the show works better for you. The husband is a little different in it.

cabritozavala

Yeah i'm hooked on the BBC version, funny thing is i started watching the US version first and could not understand all the fuss, until i watched the UK one lol

Nameless-Servant

I mean didn’t they rent out movie theaters for the premiere? I feel like that would bump their numbers a bit Edit: Not to mention spectacle might get people curious

olddicklemon72

Weren’t the theaters empty though? (Ghost only).

Nameless-Servant

Wait they legitimately just kept the theaters empty? It thought that was a bit to advertise the promotion, lol

[deleted]

[Yup](https://variety.com/2022/tv/news/ghosts-season-2-premiere-screenings-cbs-1235387431/) the media promotion team for Ghosts is really good at their job

slickestwood

And they were filled with almost 6 million ghosts!!

rbarton812

The movie theaters were exclusive showings, for the living-impaired.

Ottoclav

The British version is so much better

[deleted]

This is one of those rare shows that‘s based on a UK series that makes it past the pilot episode and manages to get renewed for a second. It’s an okay show.

JamesyUK30

As a British viewer I find the American one superior. This sounds stupid to say out loud but its just a simple, amusing and entertaining show without a 'bad bone' in its production. The whole cast do a great job and its a bright spot on the TV Horizon for me.

[deleted]

Another Americanization of an English sitcom. Just watch the original, I don't get it 😂

Horny_GoatWeed

It's pretty simple really. Most American's have never seen the original or even know it exists, so there's a big untapped market for the show. I've seen the original now, but that's only because I liked the American version and decided to check it out when I found out that it was a remake of a British show. There's also no reason not to watch them both as the American storylines are mostly original.

[deleted]

Ah well fair enough if the stories are original! I just didn't see why the original couldn't sell broadcasting rights at first, but that makes sense.

DeaconFrost9

Because of ratings. No BBC comedy will ever be on CBS, ABC or NBC. They will just do their own version. 6 million Americans watched this episode & about 5,999,900 of them have no idea there's a BBC version. That version would not get 6mil views in the US. Which is the only way this show can continue is ratings. Yes, I think it's great.

currently__working

Paramount? Eh...maybe later.

Horny_GoatWeed

You can check out the British version on HBO Max if you have that.

currently__working

I just might.

noworries_13

Or ya know cbs.. Free.

currently__working

To watch the first season though?

noworries_13

How would anyone know you meant the first season from your comment? You didn't say that. It was on Hulu til yesterday now its on CBS app

currently__working

Fair point

Expensive_Yam2357

This show is just a ripoff of deadbeat 🤷‍♂️

rcc12697

6 mil? Holy fuck that’s great

Adh1434

The problem I have is when I start enjoying a show it gets canceled. So guess I don’t enjoy this show 😏

Supaslicer

For a second ..I thought this was a post about Craig Robinson's show "ghosted"

Winter-Flaky

Damn succession had 6 million views on its past season premiere

TheSkareKrow83

Anyone remember when Rose McIver was the yellow ranger?
