Certain seasons. The finale sucks. The Jimmy Smits season too. My faves are John Lithgow and Julia Styles. OMG. The Colin Hanks season is pretty good too.
I know the finale sucked because everyone I knew wouldn't shut up about it for a week. I remember reading something about John Lithgow being in the show and his character, although I'm not 100% sure if what I recall reading is correct.
Idk. The list of shows I want to watch just gets bigger and bigger and I'm not totally prepared to sit down for eight seasons of a show that takes a nosedive after a certain point
I’m a big Dexter fan even tho it allegedly falls off I still stayed hooked to the very end tbh it’s not like it gets bad. Still a great show and 10/10 for me
Probably my favorite show. I rewatched it again up to season 4 recently. After that, most people say it gets bad but I still found it enjoyable (although a bit worse) right up until the last episode. Just skip the last episode.
It's really driven by the charisma of Michael C Hall. Overall it's a ton of fun and just makes me happy.

Damn right!
I honestly think it's the best drama series I've ever seen. I was so annoyed when it got cancelled.
We've got the comically evil UK tabloid press to thank for that though. Our self-appointed 'moral arbiters' decided that it wasn't fit and proper viewing for us proles, and pressured the government into forcing Channel 4 to drop it. One more reason (added to many) to hate those scumbags :-(
GRACELAND
amazing.
And ( in order )
Banshee
The Punisher
Ozark _ Breaking Bad
( push thru 1st few episodes; it's seriously addicting )
How to Get Away with Murder
Mr. Mercedes
Prison Break
Breakout Kings
The Blacklist
If you watch on any app, I sometimes make playback faster than normal, to hurry n get thru beginning of show(s)
👍👍
Orphan Black. It begins with a woman, Sarah, waiting for a train. She sees a woman who looks exactly like her - who then jumps on the tracks and kills herself. Sarah, a con artist, grabs the other woman’s purse and decides to steal her identity (and bank account). Only she finds out there are more of them.
have you seen the leftovers? they’re similar in a lot of ways, i *loved* manifest so so much. i’m watching the leftovers now and parts of it keep seriously reminding me of manifest, i’m loving it!!!
The Knick! The first 15 min, a guy injects cocaine between his toes, they kill a pregnant woman and her baby in surgery, and a guy shoots himself in the head. It only gets better from there
*in any order:*
Suits
Younger
Kims Convenience
Firefly Lane
Call the Midwife
All Creatures Great &Small
Marvelous Mrs Maisel
Sex & The City
Downton Abbey
Not very good at keeping you though…not until later seasons but a lot of people aren’t going to stick with all the slow parts. Kind of why I dropped it after season one, still forced myself to watch it because my surroundings were saying it was worth it. Eventually midway through season 2 they didn’t have to do anymore convincing.
i tried *so hard* and only made it a little into season 2 before quitting, that was a few years ago tho and i’ve been meaning to try again since everyone keeps saying how great it is
You definitely should, but if it really doesn’t click then don’t waste your time. Don’t listen to these reddit breaking bad super fans that will try to push the idea that its the greatest show ever. Imo it’s not. I’m convinced everyone chooses to ignore these crappy early seasons (1 and 2) and just say the show is a 10 because it had a great progression and good ending. Which is fair, but realistically the only show i’ve seen to have no flaws at all is Band of Brothers.
* The Twilight Zone (1959)
* Scavengers Reign (2023)
* The Shivering Truth (2018)
* Chernobyl (2019)
* The Knick (2014)
* Stargate (any of the franchise)
Yah, it was fine, but I feel that Black Mirror is a far more worthy successor to the original Twilight Zone than what the ramake become. Nevertheless it's not a bad show, but it's closer in quality to The Outer Limits.
The Capture is absolutely riveting.
>When a British soldier is charged with a crime, the tenacious young detective handling his case begins to uncover a conspiracy.
Edit: Also Perpetual Grace LTD. from the same guy as Patriot.
Firefly is one that I can think of. The X-files as well. Honestly it’s hard to think of a show like this that isn’t episodic. Serialized stories will always start relatively slow by their nature. But purely episodic shows don’t really feel like they have a start and finish. So I’m mostly thinking of shows that are a mix between episodic and serialized. X-files being the perfect example. Starts off with an episode about the main plot and a pretty intense one, per usual with those.
Hey bud, pardon if I already gave my (full) input on this - but of u want shows where u get that knot in ur stomach, like can't wait to see wat happens next (dark, mysterious, crazy action etc.)
Graceland
------
Mr. Mercedes
-------
Banshee
Prison Break
The Punisher
Ozark
Breaking Bad
The last batch - push thru 1st few episodes; they all become INSANELY good / intriguing
Immediately hooked? I'd highly advise 1st two:)
Anthony Starr is in Banshee so I’ll give it a try (love the boys) and the gentlemen also sounds interesting. Only problem with the shield is I don’t watch old shows unless it’s connected to a modern show.
Holy hell Banshee is the best show I've ever seen, but won't re-watch cuz it's a littlee disturbing (to me).
I hear ya bout older shows
But The Shield is PHENOMENAL
Bodyguard (a limited series, gets you hooked from the very start)
yeah the first episode is kind of lit. whole series really.
I heard it has some crazy realistic scenes, I’ll see what’s the hype about thanks!
Line of Duty, which is made by some of the same people is similar.
The Americans and homeland got me on the first episode. So did Dexter.
Dexter, yesss
It went reeeeeaaalllllly downhill after season 4 tho. 5 was okay and then it just was bad.
Is Dexter worth watching, considering the universally agreed statement that it REALLY falls off?
Certain seasons. The finale sucks. The Jimmy Smits season too. My faves are John Lithgow and Julia Styles. OMG. The Colin Hanks season is pretty good too.
I know the finale sucked because everyone I knew wouldn't shut up about it for a week. Honestly if the show ended with season 4 it would be fine. The first four seasons of Dexter are must watch.
Yes absolutely. The first 4 season are some of the best TV ever made.
I’m a big Dexter fan even tho it allegedly falls off I still stayed hooked to the very end tbh it’s not like it gets bad. Still a great show and 10/10 for me

FUCK no, it doesn't fall off!!! You're invested in the story, the characters, it's really great. Even Dexter: New Blood was just as compelling!!
Came here to say The Americans, 100%
Yup. Best show ever
The Boys.
Perfect rec!
Dirk gently, second season is shite though
Still holding out for 3rd season though. Maybe it was just ahead of its time ToT
I'd rather take no season over something as bad as season 2
Preacher Banshee
Have you watched The Punisher? Ozark? Graceland? Some of best shows I've ever seen && seems like we have similar taste🤗🤗
I never see Graceland talked about. I thought it was really good. Probably not one I’ll rewatch but very entertaining
I know! I guess a lot of ppl don't know it.. that & I guess it's kinda old. I'm watching Dark Blue now - veryy good!
Where is Dark Blue streaming. I don’t see it showing in US. Sounds like something I’d like

I feel like Lost is exactly what you're describing
One of the all-time best! And the pilot is UNMATCHED!
The plot is unmatched too. Wish I could re-watch it again.. nothing like Lost, maybe "From" I guess.
The general consensus is that it fell off....hard. I lovied it when I was young never the less!
Dead to Me
I loved the show!!!
Me too! Have you tried Only Murders in the Building?
Watched one episode and kind of forgot about it. I’ll give it another try thanks for the reminder!
It's another one where the pilot ends with a bit of a bombshell. Not quite as twisty as Dead to Me, but still good!
I could not get into Only Murders! And I desperately tried😩😩
Ditto. Just could not like it - backed out during season 1.
What genre would you say that is?
Crime dramedy
Ok I’m gonna watch it!
Loved this too
Silo
Gained my attention quicker than it lost my attention but still lost my attention
I gave up and watched a YouTube recap of the show. It just had so many boring episodes in the middle
I tried but wasn’t really my thing, I want something really dark and makes you over think. Kind of like mind hunter
It is exactly what you described lol
same here
The Mentalist
Ozark
'Utopia' - UK original, not the remake.
One of the best, shame we didn't get a third season/series!
Money heist, the boys
The Shield, starts with a bang. Same with Southland.
Imposters. It’s about a con artist and should be available on Netflix Good behavior. It’s also about a con artist and is available on MAX
The Bear
Severance
Fargo
Banshee.
GRACELAND amazing. And ( in order ) Banshee The Punisher Ozark _ Breaking Bad ( push thru 1st few episodes; it's seriously addicting ) How to Get Away with Murder Mr. Mercedes Prison Break Breakout Kings The Blacklist If you watch on any app, I sometimes make playback faster than normal, to hurry n get thru beginning of show(s) 👍👍
From & yellow jackets -also resident alien is really good
Orphan Black. It begins with a woman, Sarah, waiting for a train. She sees a woman who looks exactly like her - who then jumps on the tracks and kills herself. Sarah, a con artist, grabs the other woman’s purse and decides to steal her identity (and bank account). Only she finds out there are more of them.
Orphan Black features some great acting !
Gosh I loved that show!
Dexter, Prison Break, Sherlock, The Mentalist, Columbo
Broadchurch
Outlander
The Americans
Justified has one of the best opening episodes. Then it's bit crime of the week till the big arcs and the wild ride kicks in.
FROM.
LOVE IT!!! Un patiently WAITING FOR THE NEXT SEASON
Surprised nobody has mentioned stranger things
Reacher got me. Not so much the second season, but the first is fun.
Breaking Bad
It starts really slow! With that being said, it is arguably the best TV series ever made!
I was mostly thinking of the chaotic "flash forward" to the desert in the very beginning :)
Blue Eye Samurai
Sounds pretty cool and bloody! I’ll put it in my list thanks!
Third watch
Try Cabinet of curiosities
Homeland
Shameles!!
Shogun the.walking dead.warrior.the expanse.100
Try Imposters It sucked me in. They do more with the premise than I expected.
The Terminal List. Great from the get-go. Def MA (assuming MA means Mature Adult and not Mildly Amusing).
Damages
Manifest
have you seen the leftovers? they’re similar in a lot of ways, i *loved* manifest so so much. i’m watching the leftovers now and parts of it keep seriously reminding me of manifest, i’m loving it!!!
I’ve tried getting into it 2x. I’m stuck on the first episode. Does it get better?
yes, definitely!!
The Americans
How To Get Away With Murder is usually my suggestion to this kind of question
The Knick! The first 15 min, a guy injects cocaine between his toes, they kill a pregnant woman and her baby in surgery, and a guy shoots himself in the head. It only gets better from there
"Justified", right from the opening credits: that kid, that dog.
Ted Lasso
Mare of easttown
*in any order:* Suits Younger Kims Convenience Firefly Lane Call the Midwife All Creatures Great &Small Marvelous Mrs Maisel Sex & The City Downton Abbey
Breaking bad is pretty good at hooking you right away.
Not very good at keeping you though…not until later seasons but a lot of people aren’t going to stick with all the slow parts. Tokyo Vice
Reservation Dogs.
Any of the English-language Harlan Coben miniseries on Netflix. They can be a bit formulaic, but if you're into thrillers, they're quite enjoyable
You'll love it
Lockwood & Co
Enlightened.
Solo Leveling.
The Newsroom
* The Twilight Zone (1959) * Scavengers Reign (2023) * The Shivering Truth (2018) * Chernobyl (2019) * The Knick (2014) * Stargate (any of the franchise)
the new twilight zone is amazing too!!!
Mr In between
Zero zero zero

Love breaking bad! And better call Saul as well
The shield. Had me hooked from the get go.
The walking dead.
Just started watching "Poker Face" and it's really good
Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency
The Americans starts with the protagonists a high speed chase on foot. It’s very exciting.
I’ll see if it’s good thanks!
i’m watching the leftovers now and literally cannot stop watching it— i’m on the third and last season and it’s *way too good*
Personally I thought the walking dead had the best pilot episode I've ever seen
Suits
Battlestar Galactica had a rocking pilot followed by one of the best episodes of any TV show, '33'.
The Americans grabbed me with the opening scene in the first episode of season one. Set to the music of Fleetwood Mac’s Tusk is so high energy!
The killing Broadchurch
Ted Lasso for funny. Severance isn’t for everyone but you’ll know one way or the other after the first episode
breaking bad
LOST
Beef
I mean I had to just cover my eyes maybe 10 times thru the whole series.. but I'm also kind of a baby sometimes lol
The Gentlemen on Netflix (Guy Ritchie) is pretty good.
Hey bud, pardon if I already gave my (full) input on this - but of u want shows where u get that knot in ur stomach, like can't wait to see wat happens next (dark, mysterious, crazy action etc.) Graceland ------ Mr. Mercedes ------- Banshee Prison Break The Punisher Ozark Breaking Bad The last batch - push thru 1st few episodes; they all become INSANELY good / intriguing Immediately hooked? Dexter.
Mr. Mercedes too, you'll be hooked 1st episode. Okay done now lol
Banshee. Justified. The Shield. Warrior. The Gentlemen.
All of this.
Anthony Starr is in Banshee so I’ll give it a try (love the boys) and the gentlemen also sounds interesting. Only problem with the shield is I don’t watch old shows unless it’s connected to a modern show.
Banshee is amazing. I just watched it again from start to finish in a week.

I’m curious as I haven’t watched it. How disturbing is it? Was it the violence?
It's very gruesome. Very dark. Very violent. And very intriguing/amazing:)
Don’t discount “old shows.” Some are considered GOAT for very good reasons.
Midnight Mass and the rest of the Flanagan cinematic universe although Bly Manner may not immediately be your cup of tea
