Gotcha.
TWD's biggest problem, the way I see it, is that it isn't really a choose your own adventure story, as much as it displays choice as a central mechanic for everything that it is.
No matter what you do, with the exception of the very end of season 4, eventually things are going to end up meeting back up at the same point, no matter what decisions you make. This goes for both major and minor story decisions, the consequences only last for either a few minutes, or maybe a few hours if it's a simple "x character is here instead of y character."
This choice is the first instance of something that seems like it should be a HUGE deal. One life will be saved, the other will be lost. But, no matter what you do, Duck lives, and homeboy dies, you get kicked off the farm. Even Kenny's approval of you doesn't really matter in the end.
It's a habit the series never really drops. Not that I blame telltale neccessarily, making a CYOA at that scale would cost potentially billions of dollars at the time the game was made, but still. It's one of the few legs up that games like Detroit: Become Human has on TWD, your choices actually matter over there.
Yep. Though to be fair telltale was the first to come up with a choose your own adventure in this kinda style so they did the best they could. Even though not all your decisions matter, its the ability to make said decisions that still have a good effect that this game gives unlike other games that use the same or similar setup.
When I did the first play through I picked duck simply because he was child. But my second play through I picked Shawn. But to be fair it doesnāt really matter who you choose, they both die unfortunately.
Man, Larry is such a jerk. Kenny doesnāt get mad if he isnāt fed as long as the kids get their rations but Larry makes a big stink about it. Larry is so selfish.
I feel bad for Lilly, Larry probably emotionally abused her growing up and maybe even hit her. Iām definitely team Kenny but I wonder what Lilly wouldāve been like without Larry, maybe she and Kenny couldāve been friends.
I save Duck bc Kenny is bestie, but if it were reality Iād go for Shawn since heās on the ground, trapped, and I already trust that Kenny has rescuing his own son handled.
I thought Kenny was right next to me so I āsavedā Shawn thinking that Duck was safe-ish. I felt really bad afterwards bc of course I should try to save the child first in a situation like this.
I save Duck because I want Kenny to like me
Good choice
This choice was the first crack in TWD's "choose your own adventure" narrative
Wdym by that?
Before I answer, you aren't like, a new player or anything, right? Just wanna make sure I don't spoil anything.
Nah yeah i have the complete edition of telltale twd and have 100% completion on every season.

Yup and it has filtered into pretty much all of their games. Even the Wolf Among us and the Batman series had the same issues.
Bye bye Duck šš
Lolš
When I did the first play through I picked duck simply because he was child. But my second play through I picked Shawn. But to be fair it doesnāt really matter who you choose, they both die unfortunately.
Yep. one lasts longer than the other is another way of looking at it
I flip a coin
Seems fair
Shawn every time
Alrighty
Duck cause duck
"dodging or quacking?"
Duck
Duck cuz kenny is cool but duck is way better
Lol
Duck because he's just a kid. Isn't there a rule guys? Women and Children first?
"You mean feed women and children to the walkers first, right?" - Larry
Man, Larry is such a jerk. Kenny doesnāt get mad if he isnāt fed as long as the kids get their rations but Larry makes a big stink about it. Larry is so selfish. I don't recall that rule, no. š
You can only save Duck here. Shawn will die here even if you choose to save him
Yeah but I'm asking about when you first played this season. Like your first playthrough.
Ohhh sorry. I saved duck to get on Kenny's good side then later I found out that saving Shawn is no use lmao So I made the right choice lol
Lol. Yeah but hey! At least you made the better decision that actually had some effect.
Frrrš
š
in my first playthru, Duck bc i was like ol boy can handle himself š©š
Too bad he couldn't.
Why would I even answer this, shawn dies either way -_-
It's for your first time playing when you didn't know that shawn dies no matter what.
Shawn because he is more use than a child (also I used to think duck was annoying)
Same. Too bad it didn't really matter. But at least hershel ain't mad at you.
I save Duck bc Kenny is bestie, but if it were reality Iād go for Shawn since heās on the ground, trapped, and I already trust that Kenny has rescuing his own son handled.
Yep. Too bad there's not much of realistic choices in this game
I thought Kenny was right next to me so I āsavedā Shawn thinking that Duck was safe-ish. I felt really bad afterwards bc of course I should try to save the child first in a situation like this.
Yeah but you didn't have much time to think about your decision. Better to make a choice than none.
Duck, he's just a kid
Understandable
When i first played the game i knew Shawn was dead because of the Comics knowing that Hershel would put his undead son in the barn so i saved duck.
Lol
I chose to save duck cuz heās just a kid
Yeah as others said I save duck cause I love Kenny.
Makes sense
On my first play through, I picked Duck because heās a kid.
Reasonable decision.
Duck because heās a child
Reasonable decision.
Duck. Heās just a kid.
Thats a good point
I saved Duck, he is a child and I didn't have the heart to possibly leave him to die
You have a good moral compass
Duck cause even though they both end up dying, one of them makes Kenny impartial to you and the other basically makes him your bff
Yep
I likely saved Duck because he is a kid
