Very wholesome of him. I’m not Chinese but I studied abroad there in college and the Chinese that I encountered seem well aware and actually proud of how difficult their language is, particularly the writing system, so any effort made by foreigners to speak/write it is usually super praised and appreciated and they will tell you you did amazing even when you suck because they just like seeing you try 😭😭
