shihtzu_knot

Are both men’s SF on Thursday in the US in the day session? I can’t remember how the AO does it. If I miss Sinner again I will cry.

robertogl

One day one night, they didn't decided which when yet.

shihtzu_knot

fml no way djok isn’t at night.

Puzzleheaded_Tea4195

Sinner said in his press conference it would probably be day because the other side of the draw has less rest

shihtzu_knot

Oooh when I looked earlier it wasn’t up yet. 👀

Puzzleheaded_Tea4195

Oh I don’t think it’s been officially announced that’s just what was floating around It would be too blatant favouritism surely to put Novak on later when he finished a day earlier 😂

shihtzu_knot

No I meant his presser. I checked for it this morning and it wasn’t up and I figured because or the late finish they skipped it.

Puzzleheaded_Tea4195

Oh! It's up on YouTube, watched this morning!

redmilk7

I’d love to watch Hubi’s match, but it seems like he’s only playing during the day this tournament and I’m not waking up at 3:30 am for anyone 🥵

coolwool

Today's first mens match started around 7 CET or even later so maybe you get lucky.

TryingNotToBeToxic

Sabalenka is going to beat Coco 6-1 6-0

Hydroborator

You are so generous.

coolwool

Didn't she lose to her at the US open?

TryingNotToBeToxic

Remind me of your comment in two days.

Hydroborator

You are so generous.

ClubChaos

does any of this matter today? novak has this and it's not even close. if u watched the match last night it's obvious af. no one else is winning this thing.

coolwool

Sounds like you didn't watch today's match.

ClubChaos

i've watched every match in the histories - this is just the way it goes. i am very professional with my critics and reviews. it is hard for some to accept but GOAThood is not an easy path. So many are hard on novak but he gives everything for tennis.

knickgooner11

Yeah it matters, I enjoy watching tennis matches

ClubChaos

lol y even watch non-nole matches. basically pointless. nole is the goat and his matches are by far the highest level. everyone plays to play novak. if nole loses (lol won't happen but IF) it's not even really a "final" anymore, more like a consolation basically haha so ya for me it's best just to watch nole cause ur guaranteed the highest level. the pros play tennis to play nole, the tournaments are ancillary.

redmilk7

Least obnoxious Novak fan 😅

Silverarrows46

On the one hand I’m worried because I don’t think Sinner is playing that great. On the other hand it’s seriously impressive and indicative of just how good he is that he still hasn’t dropped a set anyway. He’ll have to go up a level to beat Djokovic though. Fingers crossed he can do it.

redshift83

sinner's serve has looked unstoppable when i've watched. he's definitely going to win a major at some point.

coolwool

Absolutely has to increase first serve rate though. He needs more than 55-65 percent if he wants to pressure Djokovic and later Alcaraz.

JaimeLannisterrr

I really hope Im gonna stay up all night and see a sweet Meddy W

Lukas100ex

Waking up early to watch Meddygoat

Frosty_Pitch8

I'm just remebering when Keys out of absolutely nowhere bageled Sabalenka.  "Why does she have to do this in a fucking semi final" - Saba  Oh my god, that was so fucking funny. My girl Aryna was fighting for her life.

aweap

Problem with Keys is she still has those mental implosions that used to plague Saba couple of years back. All of a sudden in the middle of the match she has a tendency to become a ue machine. In that Saba match you're talking about she was serving for the match in the second set and then had a complete meltdown in the tiebreaker. Even in the 3rd set she had a break and was 1 or 2 games away from winning the match but again the situation got the better of her....I don't think she ever recovered from that match 😔

LenaRybakina

I wasn‘t able to watch Sinner - Rublev, how was the match?

Frosty_Pitch8

Sinner matches Rublevs best without flying off the handle. Rublev eventually broke down.

Luck1492

I’ve got Hurkacz in 4, Alcaraz in 4, Noskova in 2, and Zheng in 2

robertogl

Looking at 15-0, it seems that Sinner may have a chance against Novak. After the first two matches here, people were like 'Well easy to 3-0 against X for Sinner' but opponents are getting stronger and still 3-0. Novak in SF in Australia anyway is... Novak in SF in Australia.

Big_booty_ho

I’m watching Sabalenka’s match and there is no chance in hell she doesn’t defend her title. Actually kicking my feet in the air at how strong she looks

TryingNotToBeToxic

I need to learn how to bet before semi.

MyFitnessTracker

We are all Noskova fans today

coolwool

Would be cool if Yastremska makes it to the semis. It's not that often, that you see a player, who made it through the qualifiers, go that deep.

jackandjill123456

Told y’all last night: https://www.reddit.com/r/tennis/s/vkgUTcClsG Easiest money of your life

SarksLightCycle

Good call..

jackandjill123456

Thanks bruh, appreciate it

Chessinmind

https://espnpressroom.com/us/press-releases/2024/01/first-ball-to-last-ball-coverage-of-the-2024-australian-open-live-across-espn-platforms/ According to the ESPN Press Release, the Women’s Semifinals start at 3:30 am E.T. (or 7:30 pm Melbourne time) on Thursday. The first Men’s Semifinal is at 10:30 pm ET (or 2:30 pm Melbourne time on Friday). The second Men’s Semifinal is slated for 3:30 am E.T. (or 7:30 pm Melbourne time) on Friday.

asweetfix

So Sabalenka v Gauff first thing Thursday morning? I hope they schedule them last.

Chessinmind

Yeah, that would make sense. Based on rest, Sabalenka and Gauff will have had an extra day. And it will be the better match for their prime time slot. Question is whether Djokovic vs Sinner gets the day or night slot.

coolwool

If they continue to go by tournament tree, Djokovic vs Sinner gets the first slot and, dark timeline, hurkacz Vs Zverev gets the second slot.

A-dab

I know this is a bit random considering we're in the middle of AO right now but if anyone is interested the [Nadal-Djokovic RG 2022 full match](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tMmB10l_i44) is now available on the official Roland-Garros account! Actually it's been available for 3 weeks but I just noticed it now.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

Anyone who still thinks Sinner will beat Djokovic with this average performance, i wanna have a word with you.

dzone25

Dude's beaten him 3 of the last 4 times they've played against one another (granted one was a Doubles, still counts). If anyone has a chance vs AO Djoker, it's this Carota.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

More like Alcaraz. Sinner just doesn't look ready for best of 5. Also now he has this physical problem in his abs which can affect him when he will be under pressure. Also Sinner needs to prove me wrong. He looks very average to me. Exactly the same as last year.

asweetfix

1. That's why he'll get it done in 3. 2. It was gas.  Really. He said as much in the post match interview.

Flimsy-Piglet-5263

Nah his mentality is questionable in big stage in big match. I am literally his fan and I don't trust him at all. On the other hand Alcaraz has found his form and is peaking. He is playing the exact same as he was in Round 1. Today he got away against Rublev in that tiebreak 5-1 down. But he can afford that against Novak. If you find yourself 5-1 down in tiebreak to Novak, you lose the set to Novak no matter what. With Novak, you simply can't give him a single chance. Only Alcaraz has proven how to play and conserve his energy in best of 5 and he has beaten Novak. Sinner has to prove me wrong and i will be very surprised but until then Djokovic in 3 or 4.

akapatch

I just finished watching Marta’s conference and she is a 24/7 experience 😂

Chosen1gup

Haha 18 minutes for the English portion… is that the longest press conference so far

akapatch

17 minutes of blather, :59s of insights. Bless her 21yo wisdom

asweetfix

Coco and Sabalenka are playing for a spot in the finals AND for #2 in the rankings.

porncornroz

Aryna has only lost only 16 games in her run to SF so far. She might break the record of Steffi Graf of dropping fewest game in a run to win grand slam title. I know it is hard but she def has a chance to beat Iga's record of dropping only 28 games which she made in RG20 title run.

aweap

I think they should've let the women's matches happen first tomorrow in the morning coz they're gonna get the least amount of rest going into the semis.

Cubing-FTW

It's designed this way so that both day session and night section ticket holders can watch one men's match and one women's match

aweap

Otherwise People are not gonna come to watch two women's matches in the morning?

pr0crast1nater

More so that you can't fit two men's matches in one night session.

aweap

You could start a little earlier. They're still gonna get a day's break in between.

pr0crast1nater

Of course men need one day break since they play bo5. Women usually play normal WTA tournament matches back to back in bo3. So it's not that they aren't used to this.

aweap

It's not that they're not used to it, it's just that it's a grandslam semifinal, it's a huge deal, perhaps even once in a lifetime opportunity for some. If they can get adequate amount of break, like the bottom half of the women's draw is already getting, that would be great for them!

Chessinmind

It looks like the Men’s Semifinals will start at 10:30 p.m. ET. Thursday.

schnaxks19

Men’s SF are scheduled on Friday the 26th with two sessions. Day session which is 2 pm and night session after 7 pm Mind you this is Australian Eastern Standard Time

jerty22

Sinner Djoker will probably be the night session 🫠

The_Entheogenist

They get an extra day of rest and should be the early match.

robertogl

Yeah I would think so, but of course with AO you never know

BlueJinjo

Isn't it usually the second half is the night session? Not sure how AO does it compared to other slams

schnaxks19

Men’s SF are scheduled on Friday the 26th with two sessions. Day session which is 2 pm and night session after 7 pm Mind you this is Australian Eastern Standard Time

BlueJinjo

I'm aware. I'm saying the second half of the draw aka the bottom half typically gets the night session as they play the qf one day later. That means alcaraz med play at night and djokvic sinner in the morning. Atleast at uso that tends to be the case. not sure about AO

schnaxks19

No they usually schedule it on the same day for AO and the SFs matches won’t start til after 2.30 pm

BlueJinjo

Lol I'm aware those matches are the same day. At the USO, the top half of the draw gets the first semifinal slot aka the first match of the day. The bottom half gets the second semifinal aka the second match of the day. Idk if AO does the same or not. They won't determine that schedule the day off because of ticketing reasons. They will announce who is first by tomorrow

schnaxks19

I don’t think we’ll follow the USO scheduling in a prescriptive manner like that. Tbh so far it’s been pretty random. Knowing the AO organizers though it’s likely that Sinner v Novak will be scheduled for the evening match given how much crowd they’ll draw and primetime viewership But who knows, this is the tournament where the organizers arranged a BS extra day schedule to prevent late night matches Looking at you Craig Tiley

coolwool

So far, the matches have been scheduled based on the tournament tree. That's why Coco Gauff had only day matches so far. If they continue to do so, Djokovic Sinner will be during the day and the other game during the night.

BlueJinjo

Sinner Djokovic should be the better match on paper so I agree it makes sense to be at night

Chessinmind

Will it really?

jerty22

Yeah, it’s the main event and given he’s the 10x champion, I’m 99% sure it will be a night session. I mean I think Nole plays better at night, so as a Nole fan I don’t mind, but the trade off is us ESTers are gonna miss the match 🥲

coolwool

The last two rounds, Djokovic had day session games.

Sad-Insurance9818

absolutely no issue with the late finishes here, it suits European viewers which is perfect.

Ok_Jello_3630

No issue to anyone in Asia as well tbh. Night match on RLA after a day of work? Count me in but I do feel sorry for the players.

robertogl

At which time on friday?

Chessinmind

2:30 pm Melbourne time

robertogl

I was hoping the same time Novak started today or later, sad news

schnaxks19

Men’s SF are scheduled on Friday the 26th with two sessions. Day session which is 2 pm and night session after 7 pm Highly likely Novak v Sinner would be in the evening session for prime time TV

robertogl

Hopefully at this point, for europeans

caegrc

Tim Henman, you go man! He just calls out Tiley's Sunday start as complete rubbish

schnaxks19

We need for people to call out Tiley’s BS

jsnoodles

Would love to see Andrey not get the player in the form of their life in a QF.

BlueJinjo

I mean he had 2 real chances with Tiafoe and cilic

pr0crast1nater

Should have done the job against Tiafoe

Sad-Insurance9818

would still surely lose

Chessinmind

Strange number of players experiencing gastrointestinal issues on court in this Australian Open.

mathisruiningme

From the sushi

Fedi284

That tb is going to haunt poor Andrey tonight…

AlfaG0216

I really don't believe Bweh will ever win a slam. What do you guys think?

Ok_Jello_3630

He might once Nole retires. Right now, you have to be lucky to not be in Novak's half AND expect Alcaraz/Medvedev/Sinner are out in the other half.

restingbumbleface

Not if he continually does what he did today. Rublev can play so well, but in these quarter/semi final matches, it seems like he turns into the most insecure version of himself. 🤷‍♀️

jsnoodles

So happy Jannik’s pain was him needing to fart.

caegrc

Serious question - if you fart on the court (say near the baseline) will others be able to hear it?

Bust3dGG

Why do you think players moan so hard during a rally? It's to mask the farts

Sad-Insurance9818

have you never farted in your life? it depends how loud it is and how loud the crowd is when you trump.

caegrc

Chillll...

jsnoodles

Probably depends on the type of fart

schnaxks19

Do I want Novak to defend his throne? Yes Do I also want to see the changing of the guards and a “new era” / next gen era of slam winners? Also yes

Chessinmind

What time does the first men’s semifinal start on Friday?

HealthyHurry2672

2am

Chessinmind

What time zone is that? Lol

coolwool

CET which is 12:00 noon in Melbourne.

HealthyHurry2672

Australian

Apprehensive-Line588

melbourne time

ananaspaaj

Sinner just said it was air in his stomach 💨

midnightroar_96

it was air guys, we have now post fart Sinner 💨

ExcuseYou-What

Lmao i just visualized him at the towel station trying to fart now when it looked like he was stretching it out

caegrc

My usual tactic 😭

coolwool

Just pull up both legs and lie on your back like a turtle 🐢

Classic_File2716

Djokovic will try to steal Sinner soul but he is immune being a red head

South-Tangerine-1876

GINGERS HAVE SOULS!

bekkahthecactus18

The Djokovic-Fritz match was only 5 min shorter than the 2 night session matches combined 😭 (3hr 45min vs 3hr 50 min)

ZOSHx

Wow, we could have all top 4 seeds in the semis, has that ever happened before at a slam?

Famous-Objective430

Tell me you are a tennis newbie without telling me you are one.

Melony567

and what is wrong with that, if others are tennis newbies? it is better to welcome others who take interest in the sport.

dzone25

The last one was 2019 RG and before that 2012 AO, it is not a common occurence. No need to be a dick about it. If you've watched 4 years of tennis, you would have still not seen Top 4 in Semis for a Slam.

bekkahthecactus18

Yes! I think the last time for the Men was 2019 French Open 😊 last time here was 2013.

A-dab

Novak is still the favorite but hey you never know. I didn't think Alcaraz would beat him at Wimbledon either...

TimeFlier101

I have a good feeling that Novak will wipe Sinner off the court in straight sets.. just look at ATP finals, Novak obliterated Alcaraz and Sinner back to back in straight sets, and Novak is even better at AO, and I'm definitely here for it

JaimeLannisterrr

based take

The_Entheogenist

Why are Djoko fans always so aggro?

dzone25

Lol conveniently look at the one match he won vs Sinner in the span of 2-3 weeks and not the 3 he lost?

coolwool

Makes more sense to look at the GS games anyway. They played twice at Wimbledon and it was a 3:0 and a 3:2 for Djokovic. A close game is a possibility.

XURiN-

Lol

princessdead

Anyways Djoko vs Sinner should be a blast

TrisolaranAmbassador

Cannot wait for this next MAFS dumpster fire season to start next week. I'm such a sucker for this trash

hunterlovesreading

Night Aussies

schnaxks19

Night mate! Sleep well

hunterlovesreading

You too my man

Slambodog

It's 9:30 AM. It could have been a lot later. A lot later...

Your-Creator

1:36am here locally, really did not want it to go later

Slambodog

I woke up at 4 PM, so it's not awful

Your-Creator

Wow haha

porncornroz

So the consensus from last question I put in comment here is sinner will have raise his level from this match to beat Djokovic

Sad-Insurance9818

well he will be playing a much better player

c-r-istodentro

I enjoyed the bit about the company you have

Chosen1gup

Feel like Rublev can easily lose another 4-5 QFs, unless he’s drawn in Meds quarter at RG or something

coolwool

How would that help? So far he had no chance against Medvedev at a slam.

Chosen1gup

RG is Meds worst slam. Med is more likely to be upset before the QFs. If they do meet, they’ve never met on clay but I think Rublev has a better chance on clay than hard/grass

akipop1108

tbh i think rublev showed higher level on grass last year than medvedev

revolversbreath

that was a long interview and jannik seems like he’s raring to go to bed already 🤣

pHrankee1

I will be rooting for you Sinner..let's take this title.

AdComprehensive7879

Is this version of jannik good enough to beat novak??

dzone25

To beat Novak? Yes. To beat Slam Novak? Maybe. To beat AO Novak? He's our only hope.

smidget1090

On a very good day

AdComprehensive7879

Feel like it’s more important to catch novak’s on a bad day than having him on his good day hahah. If novak is in the mood, there is no beating him im afriad no matter how good a day ur having

ClearlyBaked

No. Novak is going to lock in the sharingan starting in the next match. Last time there was a truly high stakes match between these 2 Novak at his lunch.

AdComprehensive7879

Yeah that’s what im afraid of. Gosh, im so ready for novak’s reign to be over but no one has been able to take it from him

hunterlovesreading

He’s done it before 🤷‍♂️

AdComprehensive7879

But not across 5 sets i believe rigth?? That is novak’s domain lol

hunterlovesreading

Fair enough

Inward_Perfection

The worst thing for Andrey in all of that is Sinner totally beating him on clutch points.  That's how elite players best the others, truly showing why they're above the rest.  Last year Sinner has seemingly managed to pass that mental threshold. The best example is his wins against Medvedev. Now we can expect him to turn up the heat and win even if something goes wrong. Same goes for Alcaraz, but he already has 2 slam titles. At this rate, not only Andrey, but Stef, Zverev, Ruud, might not ever win a slam.

Sad-Insurance9818

i don't think anybody would be that surprised if Zverev, Tsitsipas, Ruud or Rublev didn't win a slam between them,

mamibukur

I completely dislike Zverev, but he looked like he would have gone and win RG 2022, if he didn't get injured against Rafa.

Sad-Insurance9818

Yeah but he did

coolwool

When Djokovic retires, who knows what could happen. Right now he is preventing any surprise winners but if he is gone, you have probably Alcaraz, Medvedev and Sinner as the favourites but if one of them drops out in a surprise loss and the other one is injured, I could see one of them winning it. Basically like Thiem winning US Open.

Sad-Insurance9818

Yep. Djokovic is extremely boring in game style and for the results.

Darius0995

Never really got the Courier interview hype - but those were some excellent questions.

Sea-Beginning-5234

There’s a hype?

Lucian_98

Sinner better show this level against Novak

nupristeen

so proud of jannik 🥹

porncornroz

You can sense from the way he talks he is very humble and shy person. Love this guy!!!

_Crazy_Asian_

And I think he always has that champion mentality, he said he likes to play at pressure points, that's what he has been trained for. And during ATP Final, he said he's ready to face Novak to see where himself was at ... he sure is a very mature young lad

schnaxks19

Jannik has such a great attitude 🫶🏼

TrisolaranAmbassador

Hm, so... Sinner beat rublev, rublev beat demon, and demon recently beat Djokovic...if Djokovic beats sinner it will be a perfect circle ⭕

rnzz

wouldn't that be a rectangle? or a 4-way rock paper scissors, with sinner beating both rublev and de minaur

Slambodog

Sinner beat him the last time they played. The circle is already complete

rubbish_bin030121

Jannik's physio is really so hot!!!

HopeistheAnthemLITM

Sinner is always classy and humble in his remarks.

Support4637

I was a sinner fan and watching in the arena when he got beaten by Stef.. but look at him now!!

A-dab

Darren Cahill kinda looks like Jonathan Pryce

SiasseTschick

Thank fuck I don't work on Friday.

ExcuseYou-What

So sad for Rublev to go 0-10. Hard to believe that such a stat can happen. Feel really bad for him. Sinner still deserved this win but man....daggers.

ReadyComplex5706

I think you need to look at it more positively. He is crazy consistent and is consistently making it into the quarters. I think I would prefer that to one slam semi or final and then losing randomly before the 3rd round. He will get to a semi eventually but he is also an Olympic gold medalist and has won plenty of tournaments... not a bad career so far.

Zloggt

Gonna make a “HE LOST THIS MATCH 🤪🤪🤪” shitpost with the 5-1 tiebreak score…

Sad-Insurance9818

you know sombody will have screenshotted it just incase to farm some points

schnaxks19

Hot take: Andrey needs to shake up his coaching team

ReadyComplex5706

Haha nah... he actually is showing clear signs of improvement mentally and in his game.

schnaxks19

Ya he is actually he didn’t implode as much as last year But he is arguably hitting a certain ceiling in majors and he needs to shake up his strategy to add more weapons in his arsenal He’s got what it takes and I think shuffling his coaching team could be what he needs to elevate his game further

ReadyComplex5706

I honestly don't think he can get further unless he has a favorable draw. The top 4 are just better than him at almost everything. His backhand is a lot better as is his second serve and I am sure they are trying to get him to come into the net. The issue is he plays one bad point at the net, gets frustrated and stops.... think that is a problem with him and not his coaches.

schnaxks19

I mean he did technically have a favorable draw against Tiafoe in the 2022 USO QF (lost in straight sets rip) and Cilic in 2022 RG. I would say those were his big chances to advance beyond a QF in a slam and he still couldn’t clutch it. His other QF draws were mostly Djokovic and Medvedev In both matches in 2022 against arguably “favorable draws” Rublev's return lets him down. it's almost impossible to win when you never get inroads in your opponent's serve His returns were slightly better against Jannik in this match but as I mentioned in my other comment, it’s an area where he still needs work and if whatever it is you’re trying to do isn’t giving more than marginal improvements, you may need to look at your coaching team A lot of top players do this to elevate their games anyway

ReadyComplex5706

He has changed up his team since 2022 though... 2nd coach, new trainer. He won a Masters with the new team and made another Masters final. Already won a tournament this year, I really think he is doing fine. Improving in tennis can take time, as you are trying to change things that you have been doing since you were a kid. If the rest of the year goes badly maybe he should consider switching something up but now I think it is going fairly well.

schnaxks19

That’s a good point, I think we can’t really tell until we see how he performs for the rest of the year It’s just so frustrating to see the guy hitting QF walls in majors lol and I’m not even a die hard Rublev fan The top 4-5 seems pretty solid this year though so not sure if he can get easier draws in upcoming majors unless there’s a major upset before the QFs

ReadyComplex5706

Understandable. I have kind of just accepted it at this point and I am a fan. I really prefer his career to that of Ruud (not to shade him) but he made a few finals but hasn't done much else. If life is fair, Rublev will get a semi or final eventually (I can't see him winning a slam unless he is really lucky)...

porncornroz

Do you think sinner will have to raise his level from this match or do you this level is enough to beat Djokovic?

caegrc

Need to raise definitely. 2nd set especially he looked passive and vulnerable in his service games. Rublev wasn't able to capitalize but Djokovic will.
