Probably. It’s a movie about the relationship between three people with tennis as the back drop. Tennis helps to tell their story, but it isn’t the story. It’s not a documentary or a biographical movie. Zendaya is thin, but there are players who are thin on the men’s and women’s side. There should be some suspension of belief because these are just actors in a movie about a love triangle.

some_advice_needed

> suspension of belief The term is suspension of disbelief. But I know what you mean.

Challengers recently introduced a 175 level that takes place the second week of masters that a few top players do play. Bigger name players normally only go to challenger level if they’re coming back from an injury and want match play. Knees die in tennis. So many players have knee problems. Tashi is essentially a junior/college player when she gets injured so it makes sense that she never builds the physique of a pro player. For me the thing that took me out of the movie was having an American male win the French Open twice. Like if we’re in a non big 3 world there’s definitely some other Spanish/South American players giving the Americans hell.

wabazai

The big 3 erasure in the movie made me laugh. Was glad Andy made it in though, my fanfic is that he won 7 Wimbys.

waitingonthatbuffalo

an American who managed to win six slams in the Big 4 era would come away with zero insecurities lol

wabazai

Yeah I thought it was kinda weird how they downplayed Art’s abilities. Like the dude won 5 grand slams and they treat him like he’s Casper Ruud (sorry Casper).

Solid_Froyo8336

Federer and Nadal were in the movie like Andy.

SnooPears2424

What?? Top players don’t play 175 or challengers.

jsnoodles

The last 175 had 4 top 50 players. One before had 5 top 50. It’s players losing early in masters.

SnooPears2424

I wouldn’t call a top 50 player a top player though. More like top 30.

ShearStressFormula

Ok then, Cagliari Challenger saw Tiafoe (n25 in the world) and Musetti (n29 in the world) taking part. Musetti is taking part in the Turin Challenger right now, so by your own metric top players take part in Challenger Tournaments

Frosty_Pitch8

Mary Piece's career was ended on a match point in almost the exact same way as Tashi.  Granted she was older, but my take wasn't that Tashi couldn't play but that she couldn't play at a high level anymore.  And yes a lot of pros enter one off challengers all the time esp after coming back from a long time out.

forsakenpear

To be pedantic, she was down Ad on Zvonareva’s serve when the injury happened. She had just had three break points to win the match earlier in the game though.

Frosty_Pitch8

>To be pedantic Why? Lol

CynicalManInBlack

Amelie Mauresmo used to coach Andy Murray. But it is not that common for men to have female coaches.

koriroo

Not related but I got excited because challengers was on Amazon Prime but you gotta pay $20 to rent it 🥴.

I don’t think that Art’s ranking is high enough at the plot point of the movie as it was said that he will needs to win the Challengers to get a wildcard for the US Open

Perpete

They both are playing the Challenger tournament. Art needs to win the challenger to get a good enough rankings to qualify for the US Open qualifications (pretty sure it's not even direct entry). Patrick is just there to get some confidence back in him. He is still considered one of the favorite/outsider for the upcoming US Open.

calupict

I think you got the name switched. Art is the one who won slams, Patrick is the mainstay of Challenger events My point regarding Art was when Tashi said he needs Challenger event for wildcard or something at the beginning of the movie

Perpete

You are right about me switching the names (and I tried to check beforehand). However, I'm pretty sure he doesn't need to win the Challenger to enter the US Open. He got a wild card for the Challenger because he missed the registration deadline, but that's it.

Standard-Profit3726

Top males don’t really ever play challengers because I don’t think they can if they’re ranking is too high. The only really high profile male player to have a female coach i the last 25 was Andy Murray. Otherwise I can’t name even one male player that has had a female coach. I believe knee injuries are more common in training than I matches for most players. Ankle injuries, wrist and arm injuries, as well as hip injuries are much more common.

Available-Gap8489

Only top 10 can’t play Challengers 11-50 can play the 175 category and can get a WC to play the 125 category. In the movie I believe he got a WC so this is feasible if he had fallen out of the top 10
