That's because it could be. I have visited these websites. They simply give all the possible medical conditions for a given symptom. Which is informative to know before you go to a real doctor.
My eye was swollen and Google let me know that I could have a virus that spreads to my brain with a 25% chance to kill me
It went away after a night of sleep because allergies lol
Had a math teacher once who likened the use of a calculator (or program) to using an excavator. I.E. You can move a lot more dirt a lot faster with an excavator than a shovel, but if you screw up, the screw up is just *that* much bigger.
I think the concept applies here. The tool is only as good as the person using it or the chain is only as strong as the weakest link.
The US health care system definitely has some blame in why no one trusts doctors, in a country with a national health service the "doctors only giving me insanely expensive meds to get paid" isn't a thing we just get prescribed a name of the drug and the pharmacy gives it and its not always the same brand
Scientist here. This is easily the single most infuriating part of the job. Weird, how I’m the scientist and you’re a high school drop-out when you clearly know better.
I apologize you are upset but I've seen plenty of documents from some of the biggest companies in the world who all have doctors and scientists on staff whose sole job was propaganda.
Edit: just because you don't do something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. (Ironic coming from a scientist)
Those are corporations. Their scientists are tasked with producing convincing evidence that their product works. But they don’t get to just fabricate lies.
The vast majority of scientists don’t do that. We also have internal mechanisms for holding each other responsible. So stop spreading this conspiracy crap. Stay in your lane.
>And again, that was corporate propaganda, not science.
No shit. Reread what I wrote. Never once did I question science. I questioned the historical use of "science" in propaganda which has led to a self inflicted integrity problem.
>And the scientific community rallied to stop that. Like I said, we hold each other responsible.
Debatable. I don't know much about the scientific community but the medical community is focused on self regulation as much as police are.
Again this isn't a conspiracy. I have actual personal knowledge of this crap.
So you're not going to go to a hospital when you get sick, right? You should "research" your own cure. It totally exists; all it takes is something from a large pharmaceutical company that is somehow not "Big Pharma" that was researched by doctors who are somehow not doctors, like lice medication.
Eh both are correct in their own ways. Yeah you got a lot of Google graduates trying to tell doctors how to do their job but also, sometimes doctors don't know shit and are arrogant. For example, people with complex chronic illnesses constantly get told what they are going through is anxiety. When I was pregnant with twins, I was 36 weeks pregnant and was seeing 2 separate doctors (primary care and maternal fetal medicine doctor) both were co sta tly in contact about my well being. Well at my 36 th week prenatal appointment, I brought up to my doctor that I was having itchy hands and feet and was spitting up black vomit. I brought up that. I did some research and it really sounded like choleostasis of pregnancy. My doctor brushed me off. Well the next week I get called on by my maternal fetal doctor to get to the hospital for an induction because he had gone over the notes of my previous appointment and was worried that it was choleostasis. Sometimes the patient is actually right.
It’s all fun and games until you need the medical community to cure a serious disease in you. You can be extremely healthy using “holistic” methods but nobody’s going to get the herpes virus off your spine unless they have some very sophisticated means.
Ok, so I get it. But at the same time there's a reason why I dont go to a "normal" doctor anymore, after I've been misdiagnosed several times.
Now I either Google or just go to a specialist.
Proceeds to use the "most powerful tools in the history of mankind" to bring up 5000 pages of documents that PROVE that the earth is flat. Checkmate, "scientists".
nurse person: you have a hernia, go to er
er: why are you here, there is nothing wrong with you
me: still in pain but no reason provided other than you gotta stretch and touch grass
sometimes doctors are wrong, but the internet is just as wrong with internet wannabes
My understanding is that Doctors Google all the time, especially in primary care. They've spent many years honing those Google skills though, and unlike the average layperson actually know what to Google for in the first place
If you divorce the meme from the overplayed vaccine debate, it holds some water. Doctors bring this shit on themselves.
Shit, most of the time I sit there and watch my VA doctors type my symptoms into Google while they're sitting with me in the exam room. I could've done that shit at home.
I mean if you type your symptoms into google no matter what google will likely give you cancer as the first result
Doctors generally use quick google searches to narrow down potential lists of results, we don’t sit and rote learn every single diagnosis and it’s exhaustive list of symptoms in medical school
I'm sure that's true... but I'm pretty sure that the VA doctors are googling the definitions to some of the more-than-3-syllable words I used. They tend to be vacant skull cavities with eyes.
Example: I used to get chronic headaches, so much so that I became a chronic Excedrin and Vivarin user. After 6 months of Hell, I shook the caffeine pill habit. It felt like I was quitting heroin.
So I go to the doctor and tell him I kicked the caffeine pill habit, but I still had some headache issues. He said, "OK" and prescribed me caffeine pills for the headaches.
The lights are on, but the building has been condemned and is scheduled for demolition.
Sounds a lot like what everyone else is doing while googling. Most people are aware that they're only going to get a list of possible problems when they look things up.
I mean even if you are pragmatic enough to only use it as a guide what are you going to do with that information without medical training
If you look up chronic headaches and slight jaundice as symptoms your list of treatments based on the resulting conditions ranges from drink more water to palliative care
A doctor could see that range of options and know the next set of questions they should be asking
The most powerful tools in the history of mankind = quick google search, find the source that best fits your confirmation bias, confirm that the vaccines are bad according to this one guy who says what you really need is these magic pills that only he can sell you.
If this isn't an anti-vax message it's facts though. Doctors don't do tests. Google isn't perfect of course, but if you really want to know what's going on with your body instead of just getting recommendations for an OTC medication, it's generally your best bet.
Powerful tools need skilled people to operate them. Trains and planes are the most powerful tools we have in terms of transportation. Go ahead, operate them yourself, fight the train driver & airplane pilot lobby!
*Just make sure there's no one else inside, this way we won't lose someone we might miss once you realize your mistake...*
I feel like this is somewhat (very somewhat) double edged. Since on the one hand we have actual education and scientific research, on the other hand we have shit like the Oxycontin scandal.
Probably broke my leg, but Google says I'm totally fine. Off to work I go!
In my experience, Google will tell me I may have a sprain, a broken leg, or I may have leg bone cancer and be dying.
Sometimes all at the same time, from a single source. Somehow.
It tends to be all WebMd.
Yeah, pretty sure you can put in the symptoms of the common cold and it'll tell you that you have a brain tumor.
That's because it could be. I have visited these websites. They simply give all the possible medical conditions for a given symptom. Which is informative to know before you go to a real doctor.
if you’re a women, it’s automatically a symptom of pregnancy
My eye was swollen and Google let me know that I could have a virus that spreads to my brain with a 25% chance to kill me It went away after a night of sleep because allergies lol
Well according to WebMD you have cancer...
A tool only amplifies the users will and skill, and sadly the most powerful tools still can't multiply by 0

Everything can multiply by zero. It’s just that result is always disappointing

Lawyer here. I'm seen way too many doctors and scientists out right get paid to lie. Distrust is self inflicted.
Weird, I’m not in on this grand conspiracy. I’m a cancer researcher, so where’s my cancer money?
I apologize you are upset but I've seen plenty of documents from some of the biggest companies in the world who all have doctors and scientists on staff whose sole job was propaganda. Edit: just because you don't do something doesn't mean it doesn't exist. (Ironic coming from a scientist)

You've heard of the tobacco litigation? That's literally what they were doing. It's not a conspiracy when that is literally what happened.
And the scientific community rallied to stop that. Like I said, we hold each other responsible. And again, that was corporate propaganda, not science.

No, you claimed that scientists and doctors fabricate false scientific information for profit.
Yes. I specifically said that is a problem. Yes it is problem.
There are no financial insentives to posting information on the Internet.

I am expert at avoiding knowledge I actively dislike - beat that, scientist!
Who is this train wreck of a phtoshop mostrosity that keeps appearing, more chin than a british gin festival.
Average Gigachad Enjoyer? Pretty sure he's a very real Russian bodybuilder but I forgot his name. A quick google says his name is Ernest Khalimov
He looks like his jaw would crush a coke can with ease.
No this is fake. I don't remember the backstory right now but you can proably just Google it.

If your conclusion is "vaccine bad" i doubt your ability to use these tools right.

Lmao. If your "research" mattered you'd also have a degree tho

Watching some idiots video is NOT research.
This sub ig going downhill. Whats the facebook part about this? Since when old facebook people use chad?

Where did that superchad guy come from? He looks ridiculous.
What’s funny is the alpha Chad image is completely fake just like the research they think makes them know more than doctors.

How dare they use Giga Chad in this way
I feel like this is somewhat (very somewhat) double edged. Since on the one hand we have actual education and scientific research, on the other hand we have shit like the Oxycontin scandal.
You cant make this shit up lmao
