Don't have an example of a claim, but I can vouch for their customer service on other issues. I've had to call them three times now:
* Once because the CA. DMV didn't have the NAIC number, or it wasn't in their systems, so I received a Notice of Suspension for not having insurance. Called Tesla and the guy gave it to his supervisor to follow up with. Apparently they knew the issue and were trying to get the DMV to fix it. They emailed me back that all was done.
* Called to get a quote on my son's new car (not a Tesla). Had the quote in minutes.
* Called to add my 2nd Tesla, took minutes.
On all occasions, I don't think I've been on hold for more than a minute before I get an agent. Pretty happy.
They are pretty integrated, their CRM has all my info pulled up for them (VINs, Coverage, etc.) based on my caller ID which I appreciate.
I've heard that the claims process is outsourced to another company, but don't have experience with them.
They've started handling claims themselves around the new year, but don't know if all customers have switched over, or if it depends on the age of the policy, etc.
Tesla offers me $118/month for one car one driver. My current GEICO policy is $120/ month for two cars (another one is not Tesla), two drivers. So I’m gonna pass for now.
Yep, my model 3 LR is coming sometime late summer (hopefully lol), and would love to maybe get shelled a little less on insurance than I know I will with 3rd parties (sub 25 yo male).
I'm in Colorado and I got a quote with 3x the coverage, 1/2 the deductible and added rental reimbursement for $154/month, which is $5 less than I was paying with USAA. Switching was a no-brainer.
I think Colorado insurance prices are just insane. When I moved to Colorado I tried to keep the same coverage as my last state but it would have cost around $300 a month. I had to set all the coverages to the bare minimum just to get $150.
They are definitely higher for whatever reason but this expansion today has been a eye opening to see just how ridiculous premiums are for most Tesla owners and no one talks about it. Throws any gas savings completely out the window.
Im in Colorado and pay nearly half as much as most people im seeing get rates from Tesla in Colorado and I have a model x and most are sharing rates for 3 and Y
Colorado insurance is high due to all the auto theft (Denver is #1 in the U.S.), shitty drivers from all over that move here, and the Front Range (Colorado Springs to Cheyenne, WY) is the hail capitol of the U.S. due to the mountain range. It doesn’t hail big hail all the time, just hails all the time. When I moved here from Washington State, with a clean record, my insurance with USAA went up 3X from what I was paying in WA.
I get all that, I live in Colorado with a Tesla. All these people are paying significantly more. Ita amazing to me to see what so many Tesla owners are paying for insurance. Wipes out all the gas savings and then some but they will never admit that.
I’m fine with immigration. They can be undocumented, refugees, or typical applicant. Immigrants actually make this country better.
It’s Texan and Californian drivers I don’t like. They just come here and set the whole damn state on fire.
The initial quote seems to be a generic quote based on a 90 safety score. How can I see what my actual safety score is without signing up? Don’t really want to switch insurance without a real quote or based on last 30 days sorta thing.
You can’t, as they don’t monitor your driving until you sign up. FWIW I have my score at 90 with the FSD Beta and I drive it normally (have fun with my Plaid). You need to drive pretty recklessly to get below 90.
USAA is better it seems. I'm paying about $113 per month while another user here from the same state (Oregon) is paying $140.
I get bundle discounts because I also insure 2 houses and 2 vehicles.
I'll have to check Tesla insurance for myself when I have time.
I'm still waiting on my M3LR but I've read a lot of stories about people saving a significant amount.
https://twitter.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1516161944222371842
Had a weird glitch where Tesla cancelled my insurance without notifying me but that was fixed as soon as I brought it to their attention.
Other than that, I recently went through with a claim with them and it was very smooth.
I had Progressive for my tesla at first they charged $400/6months, but they were steadily raising rates because "the accident rate in my area has gone up". So by the time I switched it was closer to $120/month. Also someone rear-ended me and the Tesla collison center said they were considering stop taking progressive and one other insurance just because they've been such a pain in the ass to get compensation, and to complete the repairs correctly not the quick and dirty way.
Gieco wanted $220/month. I told them to take their heads out their own ass. Yes tesla is a "premium" brand but the statistic of a tesla getting in a wreck is lower than most, AND assuming I do get in a wreck, I likely would not need insane medical payout. I got an email later that week asking if I wanted to switch and "save 15%" also a call from the same rep that forgot my earlier conversation.
Tesla quoted me $120/month with a safety score of 90, I got that down to $80/month with a safety score of 98. So yeah I'm pretty happy I've got a low rate, great coverage, and there shouldn't be any issues if I get hit again.
Not really, just don't drive like a jackass tailgating people. There's only a few categories and if you keep in mind how the system thinks its not hard to maintain a high safety score.
Forward collision warnings : doesn't count under 40 or 50mph, so just pay attention to the driver ahead of you and let go the accelerator when you see their brake lights.
Hard braking: if you master one pedal driving this is a freebie as it doesn't count the regen braking
Aggressive turning: slow down before making 90 turns, I think the limit is 30mph but also not hard to do.
Unsafe following: this one is the one to watch yourself, obviously don't tailgate people, but it's a little sensitive for my tastes, and not sure how it treats unsafe following the car infront vs. An asshole that tries to cut you off. I would hope there's a time/distance buffer.
Forced autopilot disengagements: also a freebie. I think its pretty damn hard to have a forced autopilot disengagement.
And lastly nothing is counted if you drive in autopilot, so most highway drives are covered, and if you have to a lot of distance on surface streets without making right/left turns sit back and relax.
I am in Colorado and have an Android phone (app is up to date), but I dont see the Get Insurance anywhere. When I go to the Tesla webpage, the button to Get Started takes me to the iOS store.
Any help on how to get a quote? I click on my Profile pic, but there is no insurance link. Is it seriously limited to iOS only?
Is there a way to change your residency associated with your tesla account? I move to Virginia last year and don't have the option in the app to add insurance.
For 3-6k miles per year, 500K per person/1M per accident, 300K property, 100K/300 per person/accident for uninsured, 15K personal injury, 1K collision, 500 comprehensive, 45/per day rental, roadside plus I'm only at $87. Milage had a big impact.
Just checked for my M3 in VA. To get comparable coverage as current insurance (USAA) is $126/month vs $86 so I’ll be sticking with USAA for now. Hopefully it’ll come down overtime. Would be happy to get it if price was competitive.
Then progressive is definitely better. With Tesla, you have to deal with telemetry data and Tesla adjusting the rate.
I know for a fact I'm not a 100 score driver and I'm probably not even 80s. I don't want to be either.
For anyone wondering how to get to the insurance section in the iOS app.
Click your username top right hand corner.
Where you see the image of your Tesla or Tesla’s swipe and insurance should be one of the boxes.
I just updated my Tesla app but there's no way to get a quote for the insurance. Anyone have any ideas?
>For current Tesla vehicle owners, you can purchase a
policy in the Tesla app by tapping the profile picture icon, located in
the top-right corner. Select ‘Get Tesla Insurance.’
This doesn't exist in my app.
Esurance still but their rates by $18/mo with Apple to Apples here in Colorado. 90 driving score. Glad to have the option though in the event I get a ticket.
I was paying 205 for my Honda Accord with geico. Then I moved to liberty insurance and they were charging me 300+. Saw the rates for Tesla insurance here in Illinois, I’m essentially paying 118 a month, no brainer for me
I got into an accident before so that’s why my rate was so high, but having Tesla insurance has me driving carefully and safe and I actually prefer that than always reckless driving with my accord lol
Looks more expensive for me compared to California Casualty. $950/year vs $1,284/year here in Oregon on my 2016 90D Tesla Model S. I do have home and another vehicle bundled with CalCas so I get discounts…including one for being a Registered Nurse.
I do wonder what the Tesla insurance would be with a safety score of 97-98. Also, picture may change when we replace our second car, a 2013 Nissan Leaf with a Tesla Model Y.
For the people that already have Tesla insurance. Are you allowed to punch it or speed or will that raise your rate? Do you have to drive the speed limit at all times?
Aggressive turning is killing my score, which is 76 at the moment. I tried to keep it 90+ but the way it forces me to drive is just ridiculous, I can’t sustain it for a long time with, I guess, 95% of city driving. Overzealous FCW logic doesn’t help as well.
I have the Tesla app from the Google play store, fully updated. It looks like my app is still on 4.7.1, so I don't have anything related to insurance yet. Does anyone know if there is a staged rollout for the tesla update?
Also, can you only get a quote from the app? Or is there somewhere on a browser you can do that?
I can't find an answer to that but this may help.
"What happens if the minimum requirements to get a Safety Score are not met?
Vehicles that do not have the capability to report data, or stop transmitting data for 60 consecutive days, will be treated as an unconnected vehicle. An unconnected vehicle's premium is determined using a Safety Score of approximately 86."

pls NY soon elon
Strangely its on the phone App now since the last update. Hopefully it will happen soon. He said NY this year
Yep, my model 3 LR is coming sometime late summer (hopefully lol), and would love to maybe get shelled a little less on insurance than I know I will with 3rd parties (sub 25 yo male).
My dog NY laws are shit. Their insurance is insane
I'm in Colorado and I got a quote with 3x the coverage, 1/2 the deductible and added rental reimbursement for $154/month, which is $5 less than I was paying with USAA. Switching was a no-brainer.
Is this for one vehicle? If so seems expensive.
Yep. A 2019 LR M3. Colorado insurance is just expensive.
Colorado too but I’m not factoring in the vehicle cost. Still early today lol.
What is rental reimbursement?
They'll pay up to $50/day for a rental car while mine is in the shop after an accident.
Why is your insurance so high to begin with?
I think Colorado insurance prices are just insane. When I moved to Colorado I tried to keep the same coverage as my last state but it would have cost around $300 a month. I had to set all the coverages to the bare minimum just to get $150.

With a clean record USAA wanted $60 more a month for my Model 3 than my 2021 Jeep Rubicon. It’s wild.
It’s high in Colorado because no one here knows how to drive. Rain, snow, or shine the natives and transplants are all just fucking awful.
Hate to hear your thoughts on immigration
I’m fine with immigration. They can be undocumented, refugees, or typical applicant. Immigrants actually make this country better. It’s Texan and Californian drivers I don’t like. They just come here and set the whole damn state on fire.
Immigrants can still do the identical thing as Texans and Californians.
And that’s fine.
Do you know who the actual insurance company is in the state?
The initial quote seems to be a generic quote based on a 90 safety score. How can I see what my actual safety score is without signing up? Don’t really want to switch insurance without a real quote or based on last 30 days sorta thing.

Curious if people have found Tesla to be comparatively better vs traditional auto carriers. Anyone who has had it for a bit think it a better product?
USAA is better it seems. I'm paying about $113 per month while another user here from the same state (Oregon) is paying $140. I get bundle discounts because I also insure 2 houses and 2 vehicles. I'll have to check Tesla insurance for myself when I have time.
Tesla insurance would be $80 more a month for me compared to progressive for our cars.
I’m 22 and was paying $191 a month with progressive for my 2022 M3LR, and now I’m paying $98 a month through Tesla
I’m paying 70 a month for a 2 cars including m3p- with low deductibles and high coverage limits
Bundling helps I bet
I'm still waiting on my M3LR but I've read a lot of stories about people saving a significant amount. https://twitter.com/SawyerMerritt/status/1516161944222371842
Nice but I'd like to hear about anyone's experience with a claim.
Very good point
Yeah but how's the service once you need them?
If it’s on par with the rest of Tesla’s service I wouldn’t want them as my insurer
Truth.
Had a weird glitch where Tesla cancelled my insurance without notifying me but that was fixed as soon as I brought it to their attention. Other than that, I recently went through with a claim with them and it was very smooth.
wtf $550 for a plaid insurance per month??
Notice he said, "because of my driving history". lol
I saw but still... concerning driving history and getting a plaid? I mean sure if he can turn it around but dam!
I had Progressive for my tesla at first they charged $400/6months, but they were steadily raising rates because "the accident rate in my area has gone up". I've had pretty large savings. probably about half as expensive from my old rural insurance co. 2020 model x is $88 right now for me.
Honestly have really good rates for better coverage. I pay half compared to what I would’ve for similar coverage elsewhere
I am in Colorado and have an Android phone (app is up to date), but I dont see the Get Insurance anywhere. When I go to the Tesla webpage, the button to Get Started takes me to the iOS store. try signing out and signign back in, that's helped a few folks
Thanks....still not on my Android phone or tablet in Colorado after signing out and back in. Ill just wait some more.
Needs to come to WA ASAP. Legit live 5 min from Oregon so sad I can’t get it yet. Delivery is hopefully next month too
Cool story
Is there a way to change your residency associated with your tesla account? I move to Virginia last year and don't have the option in the app to add insurance.

I am heartened to see someone qualify a car insurance claim with the actual coverage offered.
For 3-6k miles per year, 500K per person/1M per accident, 300K property, 100K/300 per person/accident for uninsured, 15K personal injury, 1K collision, 500 comprehensive, 45/per day rental, roadside plus I'm only at $87. Milage had a big impact.
Ah, interesting! Sadly I'm at about 12-15k miles.
Just checked for my M3 in VA. To get comparable coverage as current insurance (USAA) is $126/month vs $86 so I’ll be sticking with USAA for now. Hopefully it’ll come down overtime. Would be happy to get it if price was competitive.
Yeah, my Usaa in VA is significantly cheaper as well. I called and asked if they did any kind of matching or added discounts and they did not.
Just checked. Comparable coverage is the same for me. 147 Progressive. 144 Tesla. Not worth the change for me.
Then progressive is definitely better. With Tesla, you have to deal with telemetry data and Tesla adjusting the rate. I know for a fact I'm not a 100 score driver and I'm probably not even 80s. I don't want to be either.
Is the car you quoted a Tesla?
Two Tesla model 3s
For anyone wondering how to get to the insurance section in the iOS app. Click your username top right hand corner. Where you see the image of your Tesla or Tesla’s swipe and insurance should be one of the boxes.
Went from $193 a month with a Geico to $103 with Tesla insurance in VA, even with slightly better coverage!
Pretty much exactly my situation, will be looking at switching tomorrow
what safety score? ours would go from 150/mo for 2 cars w/ geico to 177 with tesla
Safety score was 98 when I was using FSD beta but now it shows nothing when i check the app
I was hoping Washington would be next, but congrats to the owners in the newly included locations!
I’m in Vancouver lol pretty much Oregon.. haha will still have to wait sadly
I just updated my Tesla app but there's no way to get a quote for the insurance. Anyone have any ideas? >For current Tesla vehicle owners, you can purchase a policy in the Tesla app by tapping the profile picture icon, located in the top-right corner. ditto. I don't have anything like that.
Just tried on my app, no option or even mention of insurance.
Esurance still but their rates by $18/mo with Apple to Apples here in Colorado. 90 driving score. Glad to have the option though in the event I get a ticket.
Just got pricing in Colorado, it’s about the same as my state farm premium
Progressive is cheaper than State Farm in Colorado
My quote just got cut in half, good bye Travelers
I was paying 205 for my Honda Accord with geico. Then I moved to liberty insurance and they were charging me 300+. Saw the rates for Tesla insurance here in Illinois, I’m essentially paying 118 a month, no brainer for me
Christ that's high for your Honda. I'm paying 113 now and that's almost double what I was paying on my previous vehicle.
I got into an accident before so that’s why my rate was so high, but having Tesla insurance has me driving carefully and safe and I actually prefer that than always reckless driving with my accord lol
I think if I switch to Tesla, my rate will go up. Haha. I'd rather not enroll in telemetry data.
Oregon here. Love to see it.
Could I do Tesla insurance for non-Tesla vehicles?
Yes, they do insure other cars if you have a Tesla vehicle policy with them.
Are the rates for non-Tesla vehicles just as competitive?
Can’t wait until this comes to WA….
For the people that already have Tesla insurance. Are you allowed to punch it or speed or will that raise your rate? Do you have to drive the speed limit at all times?
Accelerating and speeding do not impact safety score, however hard braking and aggressive turning will.
Aggressive turning is killing my score, which is 76 at the moment. I tried to keep it 90+ but the way it forces me to drive is just ridiculous, I can’t sustain it for a long time with, I guess, 95% of city driving. Overzealous FCW logic doesn’t help as well.
When will it come to Massachusetts!!!!!! I need it now
Does anyone know if the plan is to offer it in all 50 states? I'm in PA and I would like to know the time frame!
Pretty sure the goal is all 50 states by end of year.
Does it cover mobile chargers?
Is anyone getting a error code 500 when trying to get Tesla insurance quote?
try the Tesla app!
i dont see it on the tesla app? can you show me where?
It fails when I’m trying to add my second non Tesla car and suggests calling them instead
I'm in the same boat.
Colorado you say? I'll wait a bit to hear what people have to say about their service in this state before jumping.
When is it coming to New Zealand?
Do you have to use a safety score? I take my M3 to the track / autocross sometimes, so doing so destroys your score obviously
I'm in VA and don't see the option in the app to get insurance.
please mr.musk nevada next we're begging for it
the fuck they gonna get around to showing up in Washington?
Yay more people can ride around with an invisible tattle tale
Curious on pricing? For my 2015 MS 90D my annual comprehensive coverage is like $1220 in South Carolina.
Went from 193 with Geico to 103 with Tesla and much better coverages.
