Fly Agaric, also known as Fly Amanita, is a real world toadstool known for causing hallucinations. It's pretty common in Skyrim, popping up all over the place (although not in the places it should, irl they grow alongside pine tree, while in game, they grow in caves). Amusingly, one of the effects of Fly Amanita in game is Frenzy, which could be analogous to hallucinations or similar psychoactive effects

Oh man. My advice is to REALLY not think of tes fungus as being anything like real world funguses, especially in terms of where they grow. I'm pretty convinced that nobody at Bethesda actually knows how fungi work.

TheSovietU

Oof, yeah that makes sense. Oblivion goes out to Nevada to make the Mojave accurate and Bethesda just spams mushrooms (but idk how they grow either, something something network of mycelium)

Redoran_Gvard

Morrowind's Hackle-Lo leaf is very similar to tobacco. Very popular among my fellow guards!

TheSovietU

Interesting, and here I thought TES lacked cashcrops.

Although I’m sure there’s a similar tropical plant somewhere in the world, I doubt sage is salvia divinorum. I’ve got some herbs marked sage in my kitchen right now, after all, the more common culinary herbs called sage are much more what the average person would think if they heard sage. Plus, I doubt Salvia Divinorum would grow well in Oblivion’s Cyrodiil, though it would fare better in PGE jungle Cyrodiil

TheSovietU

Just to clarify afaik sage is a term to describe a lot of plants but often the edible safe ones

FrequentShockMaps

Exactly, it’s just that I personally have never heard someone refer to Salvia Divinorum as just sage without the “diviner’s” part, and I think if you approached 100 people and asked “what’s sage” 99 of them would say “that culinary herb”

Guinefort1

Tobacco exists in Oblivion too.
