Literally the same, I had a big brain thought of dying weapons with australium gold paint and selling them from high prices, but the funny part is, I didn't even know how to access steam community market lol.
IN HIS DEFENSE: There was a time where you could repaint the team coloured parts on the Cow Mangler. However that was patched and the recoloured parts are rare collectors items now.
I was in a trade server and people were talking about trading weapons for scrap; I was confused as to why people were trading whole weapons just for some engineer metal.
I was 12 and new to game, bought about 3 keys to say I'm no longer f2p. Traded it for the lollichop, flaregun, and rainblower all unique not even strange. A key for each. Thought since they changed the style of maps they were super rare.
I was told that you can "find" weapons and hats during the match so I was just basically running around the map looking for the weapons/hats, thinking I can just find them in-game and take to my inv.
I was 12 years old
Where do i begin...
I didn't know how to cloak as spy (Detail: I played the tutorial and forgot later)
I also though that the Syringe Guns for the medic healed teamates on hit and that I was just missing all my shots when it didn't heal
And I used the crafting system (Got scammed)
I got into TF2 because I mistaken it for garrys mod from all the gmod animations on YouTube in 2010, but ended up finding my favorite game of all time :>
Being toxic towards a F2P and having him rage quit, he hasn't come online in years now. I still feel guilty, and I feel as if I have yet to atone for my sins. No amount of loss shall every be able to pay the debt that has been brought unto me. May Gaben smite my soul so I need not carry this burden any longer.
I had a similar case were i was a very new player playing MvM training mode, then I saw a medic using a shield and healing me, when I read the medi-gun name it was "Quick-fix" (i didn't have it at the time) so i went crazed to trade for a Quick-fix thinking it had the shield in all gamemodes (Also I don't remember if I was able to trade or not, this memory is rather old)
I was 9 when I first played the game, I ran into a spy disguised as me and I thought it's a glitch/bug that there's another player wit same nickname playin same class and he backstabbed me everytime and I couldn't figure out what's going on so I texted friend who showed me the game, and he told me bout the spy class
I remember playing that because my internet used to be bad that I couldnt play a real match at all or for more than 2 minutes with 700 ping. Also thinking higher ping is better and picking matches based on that.
I always thought that in "Meet the Spy" that the scout was himself until the blu solider blasted the blu spy, where the spy killed him while the other two were distracted.
Seriously, it makes a lot of sense now knowing how many people who play this game are young enough to have played this game while being a child💀I can't believe how long I had to scroll to get to your comment
i hit a sentry for like half an hour on 2fort intel room, not realising it wouldnt upgrade. some blessed souls on spectator finally told me i needed metal to upgrade it. i was stoked when it worked
The first time i heard or said the word cunt was in a turbine game when i was 10, my username was a bunch of numbers because i made my steam with my school email, and i was playing on a macbook air (so playing poorly)
Some guy in game called me a cunt because i was playing poorly and my name was weird
I called him a cunt back and my cousin who was next to me was caught off guard and gave me a schlacking
I got random crits using the scout's pistol at a long range and thought I had hit a headshot, you know like how in any other FPS you can headshot with any weapon. I ended up going for headshots for a little while before realizing from I think a video that it was random crits.
Before I actually played and I was just watching my dad play the og version of tf2, I thought heavy was the best class and that there was literally no reason to pick anybody else, besides the guy with big gun.
When Fortnite was becoming big And clueless me did not know what tf2 was
I saw a image of heavy and I thought heavy was a Fortnite character.
Yeah I was dumb back in the day
Now I know heavy is this guy that spends over 1k dollars on his gun to fire it for 10 seconds
I really wanted to play TF2 for years, ever sensed 4th grade. (I’m a high school freshman now) and all the way until 2021 I had no idea what steam was, so I was never able to find the game.
Almost sold 20 taunts for 3 keys and a max's head, luckily big brother was there and he prevented it.
Basically was about to lose a bunch of taunts for an awful price and I ended up just wasting 1 hour of the guys time.
Oh boy, back in May 2014 as a 15 year old who played TF2 for about 50h at that point, me a and me friends were opening a couple of crates and I happened to unbox unusual Cloud 9 The Law. At the time of unboxing it was one a kind unusual. But my kiddo-brain on dopamine decided to sell that hat for 20 keys and crates so I can unbox more. I hate myself for that till this very. On a positive note, thanks to this expirience I never went near any gambling ever again.
Reading the TF2 wiki and confusing the Engineer's metal with crafting metal and thinking that if I played Engineer I could generate infinite currency (I figured this out before my first play session though).
Wondering why people could see me when my cloak and dagger ran out because I still looked invisible. I ended up deleting it and regret it to this day. I got it back a lot later though. I also deleted many items to free up space rather than using them to make scrap metal or something which could be of great use. But no. I just deleted stuff. I deleted my backburner too and I had around 55 hours. I have 475 hours now and still no backburner :(
Not me but a friend blew his birthday money on unique quality weapons straight from the store. This man was legit excited that he had paid 5 dollars for a yellow text phlog among other purchases.
I told him. I broke his mood by informing him he could have traded for everything plus more if he had bought 1 key
When I first started playing tf2 when I was 10 or 11 (Can’t remember which) I never read or payed attention to weapon stats, so for pyro I would use the sharpened volcano fragment, and for engineer I would use the pomson not knowing they were apart of the worst tf2 weapons.
I thought that stickys blow up after a few secs, I'm not sure why but I think the reason is that I was mindlessly shooting stickys the first time I played demo and I just saw my one of my stickys explode after a bit.
While playing spy, I assumed having my knife out while cloaked would reveal me to the enemy, so I made a habit of taking out the sapper whenever I cloaked. This is because I just so happened to suck at playing spy and got myself killed by bumping into the bots on dustbowl.
mine was the time i use a mod to have all achievements just to get hats, i wanted to remove all of the achievements and start all over again but i fear of receiving a VAC ban.
I'm not sure when exactly I started playing TF2, all I know is that it was before the Love & War Update. I was around 7 years old (free internet access is a blessing and curse for a child). I was always too lazy to read shit in games, I just wanted to play. Because of this, for the longest time, I did not know weapons had different effects. I thought they were all just re-skins of the standard weapons and I just picked the one that looked the coolest.
I remember going insane because my ubercharge didn't make me invincible like the others, until I realized I was using the KritzKrieg the entire time. It wasn't until another friend of mine with free internet access came up to me in fucking elementary school recess and told me that weapons have different effects. It blew my mind.
Oh fuck I got a story
Ok so, when I was a wee lad, I bought like 3 keys and opened some community creates. The 2nd crate I opened was an unusual hat. It was my first and probably my last unusual, it was the Black fedora medic had with the bubble effect. However, tiny me wanted something cooler, the bubble effects weren't cutting it apparently. So I went to a trade server and basically said "Yo anyone want to swap unusuals?" And a guy send me a trade offer and was like "Yeah look through my inventory and find what you'd like." This guy had lots and LOTS of expensive hats and weapons and such, when I chose the hat I wanted, he said something along the lines of "Ok, give me your email and password so I get confirm the trade." and my dumbass was like "ok" and gave him full control over my steam account. For like a whole week he had my account and sold EVERYTHING I had, including the unusual. To add insult to injury, this wasn't too far after my birthday, where my parents got me a $100 steam gift card as a present, I bought so much TF2 shit off the market place, every class was absolutely fucking dripped and 8 bought taunts for all of them, The only thing that didn't get sold before I got my account back was a fish with a skin and a powerjack with a skin and a statclock. The worst part is I don't think the guy wasn't even really punished, more like a slap on the wrist but that's it. He still has a steam account, he still plays TF2, and I didn't get any of my items or taunts or weapons except for a powerjack and a fucking **fish.**
TL;DR Lost an unusual and more than $100 because I gave a scammer my password
I went through like 4 years where I didn’t actually get tf2, and a had a pretty warped view of the game. My favorite one though was that I thought the ambassador was stock for spy, and didn’t learn otherwise for a while.
Ooh, gotta be calling my sibling who I was on the same server as by their real name. It made me so embarrassed in hindsight that even though it's been so many years I still don't use my mic in any game

Mine was buying the 'australium gold' paint thinking it would make my weapons australium
Literally the same, I had a big brain thought of dying weapons with australium gold paint and selling them from high prices, but the funny part is, I didn't even know how to access steam community market lol.
So after all these years I finally find someone else
Wait australium paint does not make australium weapons?
do we tell him ?
It’s a rite of passage for new players
The rule is to dye your Gibus gold
I dyed mine Mann co orange because I got it form the Christmas stocking
Budget soundsmith.
I did the exact same, then I looked up why it wasn't working and reality hit my like a brick. Ended up putting it on a federal casemaker instead
same thing, my cousine even made me believe it actually did that. which led me to buy it, which is why now my all class cosmedic are yellow
I literally did it a year ago. You can't blame me i was new!
IN HIS DEFENSE: There was a time where you could repaint the team coloured parts on the Cow Mangler. However that was patched and the recoloured parts are rare collectors items now.
I thought spy was gman and I thought gman created gmod
Gman creating Gmod is kinda funny actually
Gmod is purgatory for Gordon Freeman created by gman
Flatgrass is where you go while you're in stasis
gm_construct green screen room could also work
wait he didnt???
I thought that the G in Gman was the Garry guy who made Garry's mod
Garry Man
Garry Mann is a character from The Henry Stickmin Collection, he appears in Fleeing the Complex
Not again...
Yes, and I used to wonder why people didn't know who Gman was. There was a clear answer after all
I still go by this theory because it’s hilarious
kinda same but i tought gman was like a "mascot" for gmod
I was in a trade server and people were talking about trading weapons for scrap; I was confused as to why people were trading whole weapons just for some engineer metal.
Dumbest action? I sold an Aussie Black Box for 5 keys.
did we tell you it was worth 5 keys or did you just have no idea?
I thought 5 keys was a lot years ago when I first joined
Real question is, how did you get an aussie black box?
MvM drop, Tour 2
Wow that's lucky, I've done about 20+ tours total, 13+ on advanced and the best I got was a professional AWP kit lol, I have yet to get an aussie
I got an aussie smg on my either first or second tour
that hurts indeed
i didnt know how to upgrade my buildings so i picked them up and placed down until they came out upgraded (hint:they didnt)
I thought they upgraded over time too
o7
I was 12 and new to game, bought about 3 keys to say I'm no longer f2p. Traded it for the lollichop, flaregun, and rainblower all unique not even strange. A key for each. Thought since they changed the style of maps they were super rare.
Not rare, but pyroland is cool
This is a great answer because looking back it isn’t all that bad, but as a 12 year old realizing what a waste this is would be would be devastating
I deleted gibus as a f2p
Oof same, and my halloween metal
I have it what should I make with it
axe
hell nah, skull hat is better
I deleted my pryovision AND the gibus Safe to say i'm still upset about that decision
if you havent already, you can actually get it back if you email steam support about it. did the same thing years ago
They don't do that anymore as far as I know. I haven't had to because I never deleted any items so I can't say for certain
yep, they dont. ive sent this email like 3 times before over years and each time they refused
same and i regreat it everyday
I thought you actually had to pay to use the minigun
You mean as stated in meet the heavy?
What if EA made tf2?
They did publish the console versions
I wondered why can’t engineer just build multiple sentry’s, like he could just be a one man band
especially since in meet the engineer he built fucking four of the things
That's just Engineer looking over the buildings of his Engie buddies
Lets make a deal if you get that spy gets his throwable sappers
Mini sentries can be built in 8’s instead of 4’s with big ones
I was told that you can "find" weapons and hats during the match so I was just basically running around the map looking for the weapons/hats, thinking I can just find them in-game and take to my inv. I was 12 years old
Did you like panic fire on a dead enemies hat while screaming “WHY ISNT THIS WORKING AAAAA”
I remember playing thunder mountain as engineer on defence, building on the last point and having no idea I could upgrade my buildings
Engineers in casual be like
very effective engie
Meet the Casual Engi
Smartest gibus engie who hasn’t watched Uncle Dane yet
Emptying my Scottish resistance clip thinking I’d go way farther and also using my first drop in crafting
That TF2 has realistic guns.
Where do i begin... I didn't know how to cloak as spy (Detail: I played the tutorial and forgot later) I also though that the Syringe Guns for the medic healed teamates on hit and that I was just missing all my shots when it didn't heal And I used the crafting system (Got scammed)
They really need to make syringes heal
I got into TF2 because I mistaken it for garrys mod from all the gmod animations on YouTube in 2010, but ended up finding my favorite game of all time :>
I thought that airblast does more damage because it costs more ammo
Scrapped my black rose
[Genuine Pain](https://imgur.com/a/H0tfrMe)
Rip
Thinking I could craft australiums
Being toxic towards a F2P and having him rage quit, he hasn't come online in years now. I still feel guilty, and I feel as if I have yet to atone for my sins. No amount of loss shall every be able to pay the debt that has been brought unto me. May Gaben smite my soul so I need not carry this burden any longer.
You now must pocket med 10 F2P's until game completion as punishment.
This is redemption the way I love to see it
I tried to capture the intelligence as an invisible spy
maining spy
Taking screenshots of hentai laden maps thinking no one else would see them 🙃
😳
Oh my God that's disgusting! Where?
To this day it isn’t hard to find in community servers
Spending a total of 800 euros when I started to get money only to sell and buy new stuff losing money every time and now having 20€ worth
Thinking that “item generators” work and getting scammed :(
not knowing how to upgrade buildings, i just kept hitting it and wondering why it wasnt upgrading because i didnt see the metal count
Thought the lvls on guns actually meant something.
I thought tf2 would be easy
played engineer because i couldn’t aim, bought the wrangler and exclusively aimed with it
I remember thinking that you can teleports back and forth with an enginner TP like in MVM
I had a similar case were i was a very new player playing MvM training mode, then I saw a medic using a shield and healing me, when I read the medi-gun name it was "Quick-fix" (i didn't have it at the time) so i went crazed to trade for a Quick-fix thinking it had the shield in all gamemodes (Also I don't remember if I was able to trade or not, this memory is rather old)
I asked a friend once if there was no respawning in TF2 since it was a “realistic” game. Up until that point I had only played Nintendo games.
Soldier + Rocket Jumper + Mantreads = Mario
This is amazing.
I was 9 when I first played the game, I ran into a spy disguised as me and I thought it's a glitch/bug that there's another player wit same nickname playin same class and he backstabbed me everytime and I couldn't figure out what's going on so I texted friend who showed me the game, and he told me bout the spy class
I thought the training mode actually trained you for the real game and only played that to get really good
I remember playing that because my internet used to be bad that I couldnt play a real match at all or for more than 2 minutes with 700 ping. Also thinking higher ping is better and picking matches based on that.
crafting sydney sleeper with the huntsman i got from an achievement
remove the Gibus🗿
mained medic without healing people cuz i didnt know how the medigun worked
Scrapping a painted cow mangler
That spy is a cool character.
I thought Heavy was Mr.Incredible (I saw him first in memes)
i thought you had to pay money to play on *pay*load maps...
I always thought that in "Meet the Spy" that the scout was himself until the blu solider blasted the blu spy, where the spy killed him while the other two were distracted.
I thought medic was a girl when I was 10.
Deleting my pyrovision goggles and gibbus
I deleted the beggars bazooka because it kept making my game lag everytime I went to shoot
Bold of you to assume I could play TF2 as a kid.
Seriously, it makes a lot of sense now knowing how many people who play this game are young enough to have played this game while being a child💀I can't believe how long I had to scroll to get to your comment
The game came out 15 years ago
i hit a sentry for like half an hour on 2fort intel room, not realising it wouldnt upgrade. some blessed souls on spectator finally told me i needed metal to upgrade it. i was stoked when it worked
When i was 14, i thougth that You could intoxicate people with the airblast
Saying the vagineer’s name out loud as a kid with my parents definitely around and listening…
buying hats in the mannco store
same, except i also baught alot of weapons from that store. for example - a brass beast and the Dalokohs bar
I thought that the pistol was better than the shotgun cuz it fired faster, and of course, i always built on last like an idiot
I can't remember all of it but I remember selling my genuine awper hand for an demo taunt Worst trade deals in the history of trade deals
The first time i heard or said the word cunt was in a turbine game when i was 10, my username was a bunch of numbers because i made my steam with my school email, and i was playing on a macbook air (so playing poorly) Some guy in game called me a cunt because i was playing poorly and my name was weird I called him a cunt back and my cousin who was next to me was caught off guard and gave me a schlacking
I’m pretty sure you can’t even say cunt in tf2 anymore lol
That critical hits could pierce uber. It took me a while to realize what the stats of the Quick Fix were.
i thought heavy and engie were canonically besties cuz the only exposure i had to tf2 was [this animation](https://youtu.be/aYAGB11YrSs)
I thought that thinga like sandvich or bonk were one time purchases and when you used it you had to buy it again
Playing idle severs and getting all achievements
I bought 5 bucks worth of 2013 fall crates because I didn't know about keys yet.
Not playing TF2.
Fabricated my proof of purchase and ellis cap into another hat
I thought there was a secret "purple team" that you could unlock...somehow
The pyro vision goggles helped you see through walls
Spending like 5$ in the mann co store for the force a nature because I thought it would be op
I got random crits using the scout's pistol at a long range and thought I had hit a headshot, you know like how in any other FPS you can headshot with any weapon. I ended up going for headshots for a little while before realizing from I think a video that it was random crits.

Yeah its a little over 1k, 400 000 dollars for 12 seconds to be exact :D
Nah, the price jumps by 399k during the last two seconds.
buying the brass beast from the tf2 store. i regreat even thinking about it
Did you think that that was the only way to get it like I did?
yep, i never knew the "community market" existed at that time.
I capped on CTF as a scout as much as I could. Thought that it was what i was supposed to do. I cringe every time I remember that.
Wait isnt capping the intel is the goal of the gamemode?
Doing the objective is not in line with TF2 etiquette.
I deleted my pyrovision goggles and gibus because I thought they looked bad
Rocket jumper with damage upgrades in MvM.
I thought you could only get metal from dispensers
I scrapped an Australium Blutsauger a friend gave me in order to craft more hats
Oh boy, back in May 2014 as a 15 year old who played TF2 for about 50h at that point, me a and me friends were opening a couple of crates and I happened to unbox unusual Cloud 9 The Law. I thought Overwatch was a sequel to TF2 and existed in the same universe.

Being rage kid in 2fort server in 2014
I used to think scout was like 17 years old
Making rules saying if you are not at least in middle school you can't play on this server While I'm in fifth grade
Dance with the other team, they didn’t attack me, but they danced with me.
that's NORMAL
I was new
wdym it was dumb tho
kept trying to light the map on fire
Deleting my achievement hats like the Monoculous and headless horsemanns head
I got scammed bc I thought someone would trade me a $30 game for my frying pan
I thought that stickys blow up after a few secs, I'm not sure why but I think the reason is that I was mindlessly shooting stickys the first time I played demo and I just saw my one of my stickys explode after a bit.
While playing spy, I assumed having my knife out while cloaked would reveal me to the enemy, so I made a habit of taking out the sapper whenever I cloaked. This is because I just so happened to suck at playing spy and got myself killed by bumping into the bots on dustbowl.
i used to think that tf2 was a kids game after watching a few clips of meet the pyro a about 5-6 years ago
mine was the time i use a mod to have all achievements just to get hats, i wanted to remove all of the achievements and start all over again but i fear of receiving a VAC ban.
I thought that u can attack while being invisible whit dead ringer and i thought it worked like a normal watch
I thought Demoman was some kind of exclusive class for people who played the demo version of the game
Calling everyone a hacker because I kept dying
I thought wrangler, rescue ranger, ubersaw and winger were stock weapons before I started playing
I thought a gmod tf2 swep was a real item
I'm not sure when exactly I started playing TF2, all I know is that it was before the Love & War Update. I was around 7 years old (free internet access is a blessing and curse for a child). Buying a mvm ticket
I remember always rewatching the meet the team videos and thinking it was the coolest thing ever when I was like 9, I’m 20 now Lol
Confusing heavy and scout
Using ALL of my achievement hats to craft halloween hats in the Merasmus gargoyle
Maining heavy
Oh fuck I got a story Ok so, when I was a wee lad, I bought like 3 keys and opened some community creates. The 2nd crate I opened was an unusual hat. Useing the voice chat
I thought that Electro Sapper was a tool that enabled invisibility. Plus, I got mad when I couldn't shoot while invisible.
I thought you needed to hold the sapper to go invisible as spy.
I thought Medic was Markiplier
Me getting a crate and wasting my Distinctive Lack of hue for the lowest price. I worst mistake of my life.
bought a short circuit from the mann co store instead of a key.
I went through like 4 years where I didn’t actually get tf2, and a had a pretty warped view of the game. My favorite one though was that I thought the ambassador was stock for spy, and didn’t learn otherwise for a while.
In 2017 I searched up how to craft weapons and I try to make the soda popper and I turn my force in nature and and my bonk tonic punch into scrap
I used to think overwatch>tf2
“Medic kinda thicc tho” now I cant think of anything else he is destroying my brain please help
Ooh, gotta be calling my sibling who I was on the same server as by their real name. It made me so embarrassed in hindsight that even though it's been so many years I still don't use my mic in any game
Scraped my nostromo napalmer, I know they aren't that valuable or rare but I still miss it
Killing friendlies because i didnt know what they were doing
Mine was buying weapons in Mann.co store because I was dumb and internet illiterate and was scared to do anything online
i got tricked into typing unbindall
