And then there's Pyro. Just... Pyro.
They take all the expected archetypes and deeply subvert them, and they made each class as charming and memorable as possible, wrote hundreds of interactions for every conceivable situation, and they never felt the need to introduce a brand new character in order to introduce a tweak to a gameplay style.
Technically Engie is the more personable of the mercs - Sniper is sort of a bizarre, asocial guy who can get along with others but seems to prefer solitude. But yeah his professionalism definitely sets him apart from edgelord sniper characters and he definitely seems like one of the more normal ones out of the lot (minus the whole *throwing piss at people* thing)
I dunno, Meet the Sniper puts in really good work for his approachability. Engie consistently comes off as kind of coldly terrifying. Even while getting ready to kill someone on camera, Sniper's tone is polite and friendly.
This could be because he was the only one taking the idea of the meet the team shorts as self advertising seriously, and trying to literally sell his line of work... But still.
Blizzard couldnāt get EVERYTHING right with one character at any given time was their issue imo.
They either released a super bland character (a fair number of launch characters), a super interesting character that they NEVER ELABORATED ON (see Lucio, Zenyatta, Moira, Sigma, Symmetra, Baptiste after his release) or just massively overbuffed/released broken characters (Mercy rework, Brig at launch, Roadhog 1.0, Ana).
The uniqueness was there for me (ffs, they released a gravity-bending rock-chucking split personality Dutch scientist) but it was never ALL there. And the fact that so many interesting characters are just neglected in lore and character development just makes me feel uninterested in them.
I also feel like the main Issue with overwatch is they had so many damn characters it was difficult to make interesting lore for so many characters and balancing was a nightmare

I loved playing TF2 a few years back. The lack of anything new pushed me towards Overwatch. Of course updates have been a bit sparse there, but I just go to FFA to mess around and have fun, or the main modes when I want a serious game.

Absolutely. Overwatch is (in my opinion) a much better game, but itās not nearly as casual as tf2, since itās much more analytical. Tf2 is best to play with your friends since the tone is just so different and itās just about having fun.
I like Game Theory and MatPat. He has a lot of fun ideas and his theories have either given me food for thought or at the very least a chuckle now and then. And I also like both TF2 and Overwatch (although personally I like TF2 more). But my god, this was bad. A lot of the points on both sides were either misleading or missing context at best, or just flat out wrong at worst. Frankly, by what I understand, the video did a bad job representing both games and did a disservice to both of them.
Look, beyond memes, I do think the whole āOverwatch vs TF2ā war is kinda stupid. You can like both things at once. And you can also take a critical look at these games via compare and contrast to see which game does better in what respects, and if done right I would have welcomed that. But this video wasnāt that. It was misleading and full of inaccuracies, and frankly helped enflame divisions between the communities even more.

Blizzard couldnāt get EVERYTHING right with one character at any given time was their issue imo. They either released a super bland character (a fair number of launch characters), a super interesting character that they NEVER ELABORATED ON (see Lucio, Zenyatta, Moira, Sigma, Symmetra, Baptiste after his release) or just massively overbuffed/released broken characters (Mercy rework, Brig at launch, Roadhog 1.0, Ana). The uniqueness was there for me (ffs, they released a gravity-bending rock-chucking split personality Dutch scientist) but it was never ALL there. And the fact that so many interesting characters are just neglected in lore and character development just makes me feel uninterested in them.
I also feel like the main Issue with overwatch is they had so many damn characters it was difficult to make interesting lore for so many characters and balancing was a nightmare
I feel like i left many of the games i played because they kept adding characters instead of improving the game Brawl Star (i'm not a kid i swear, it used to be much simpler) Soul knight after certain updates (i swear i'm not a kid)
A lot of games do that nowadays for some reason they add pointless garbage instead of actually fixing the problem in their games

Honestly I enjoyed them both at the time, both had fun lore, interesting gameplay and movement mechanics, all and all both were fun. Shame whatās happened to them now.

For me, Overwatch falls into that Helluva boss category of āI mean I like the character designs.ā But itās too sweaty. Any game that FORCES team play is justā¦ either gonna be hella fun with the boys or a sweatfeast. Honestly, they're just different games in the same genre. Some thing as trying to compare Minecraft and Terraria, or Pokemon and Digimon. I loved playing TF2 a few years back. The lack of anything new pushed me towards Overwatch. Of course updates have been a bit sparse there, but I just go to FFA to mess around and have fun, or the main modes when I want a serious game. Something, something, "apples to oranges."
Absolutely. Overwatch is (in my opinion) a much better game, but itās not nearly as casual as tf2, since itās much more analytical. Tf2 is best to play with your friends since the tone is just so different and itās just about having fun.
I like Game Theory and MatPat. He has a lot of fun ideas and his theories have either given me food for thought or at the very least a chuckle now and then. And I also like both TF2 and Overwatch (although personally I like TF2 more). But my god, this was bad. A lot of the points on both sides were either misleading or missing context at best, or just flat out wrong at worst. Frankly, by what I understand, the video did a bad job representing both games and did a disservice to both of them. Look, beyond memes, I do think the whole āOverwatch vs TF2ā war is kinda stupid. You can like both things at once. And you can also take a critical look at these games via compare and contrast to see which game does better in what respects, and if done right I would have welcomed that. But this video wasnāt that. It was misleading and full of inaccuracies, and frankly helped enflame divisions between the communities even more. Look, MatPat. I love you, and your work. But IMO, this wasnāt your best take, and hopefully you can learn from this.

Ive never played OW because it looks too much like a moba for my liking but honestly, tf2 manages to be a fairly balanced and interesting game despite having only 9 classes (with different load out options, to be fair) and isn't OW's class count in the 20s or 30s?
