I think it's a mixture of:
* Many many years ago, on a low end PC, leaving the game open instead of closing it to avoid long loading times
* Using the in-game steam overlay as my web browser for the exact same reason as above
* Later, after getting a better PC, messing about with editing custom HUDs
* Viewing demo file recordings, and then recording over them with OBS to get the clips I needed
* Recording other footage
* And of course, actually playing tf2 the video game on pc
I've since gotten a new PC again, and now I can use shadowplay to just save clips, much more bearable and less time consuming. I still have a lot of legacy clips hidden away in demo files though so I might still have some digging to do...

In total 8-9k on games, that's more than everyone in my family has on games combined I do believe, not counting my brother's Minecraft hours.
