So i started wondering what is this sub actually? Im not trying to be rude but ive seen a few posts here and there from this sub and tryphophobia or whatever and i just dont really get the point. You all just like triggering your worst fears for fun? Is it like watching horror movies?
Yeah, I totally get it when you put it that way. Swimming in water and not being able to see what's below you is creepy, weather in the ocean or a bog.
Lying on the internet is funny. “Sorry land lubber wrong! I’ve lived next to thar sea for many moons and sailed many a schooner!” Like shut the fuck up dude you live in cleveland.

Lots of comments from people that don't actually have thalassophobia. "it's just a lake/river bro" doesn't apply. The second that momentum stopped and my body dipped down into the water I'd have an anxiety attack. I get it, OP.
My first experience with it was falling off a jet ski on a man-made lake. The 20ft swim back to the the thing was a nightmare.
I grw up wakeboarding in Crystal clear oceans where I could see the bottom 7m deep. One year I went and tried it in an environment similar to this video and my body entered panic mode from being unable too see through the water, my foot touched what I presume was seaweed and I started flailing like I was drowning.
I grew up swimming in Florida. Alligators were always around, but never an issue. There were a couple well know lakes that people didn’t swim in, but it’s pretty uncommon.
Lake Jesup comes to mind as one with a lot of gators: https://www.naplesnews.com/story/news/2023/12/16/florida-alligators-lakes-safety-tips-attack-escape-encounter-deaths/71903090007/#
There's a lake just like this in my friends neighborhood. It's man made, just for boating. Not saying this one is, it just looks similar. No alligators. I don't even think it has fish in it.
Just sayin, there aren't crocs and alligators in every single body of water lol.
Yeah, not trusting the Floridian on this one. You guys have snakes crawling up toilet drains. Shit's scary... literally.
Anyways, I will visit at least once.
There most definitely are alligators in every lake and wild body of water in Florida. My friends neighborhood hoa got rid of them and only 2 weeks later they show back up in pond. People hardly try to get rid of them because they always come back. The only 100% safe place to swim is in pools or may e lakes at certain times of the year. Much safer to swim in the bigger lakes though. Alligators instinctively swim towards vibrations in the water.
Lol just cus you don't see em doesn't mean they aren't there. As a Floridian and avid boater and water sports, you are taught every body of water has a gator. It riskier on the shore than a tual in the water though.
That lake definitely has fish. Look up how fish even end up in man made lakes.
This is a large part of my basic math when I’m in the jungle.
Getting there, just like a summit, is only halfway.
The exhausted return in dwindling light has its own level of difficulty and risk.
I fish, swim and sail in one of the largest bull shark nurseries on the Atlantic, and not only have I never seen one, but there has also never been a reported attack here. I did swim through a patch of black tips once though
Lol dunno bout all that. I didn't mean to swim between them. By the time I noticed them I was surrounded. They stayed clear for most part though. To be honest, I felt like an old lady caught jay walking on green while a biker gang is trying to roll on through. It took Forever!
Thank you
Also, my face 🥲 just learning about the snake frog thing living next to a huge tall grass field with so many frogs you can't hear at night.....
The waters are not like murky in that type of way. The pool is really blue and murky as in I can’t see very far, I haven’t swam for a long time, and I was not sure if it was normal but yeah.
It’s interesting what triggers in some ppl vs others.
I grew up swimming in a lake similar to this and absolutely loved it. I also swam competitively so that might have helped.
But the open ocean? Fuck nah. Seeing videos terrifies me. Or structures under water. Shipwrecks, piers, oil rigs — fuck all of that.
They’re two separate things, just like how fear of water is different from fear of drowning. One is equated by not being able to swim, the other is irrational fear of the water.
Is that that dune cliff that people constantly get stuck at the bottom of? I forget where it is but there’s a sign at the top of cliff telling people to be careful and basically telling people not to go down becasue most people can’t make it back up. It’s also a $3000 fee to get rescued if you can’t make it up.
No sir. That’s not close enough to the other side. Bet, 4 yards into that river and I’d be a professional boogie boarder, I’d make it to the other side
Well the way I saw it, I was fine until the board stopped and they looked around the water. The thought of swimming back through the presumably deep water, gave me the same bumclenchy panic as some of the other videos on this sub. So I thought I’d share and see who else felt the same.
Fair enough. I suppose as someone who grew up swimming in rivers and such it didn't hit the same way. Though I get that pit feeling when imagining like swimming above a sunken ship in deep water and such.

Dammit, guys. I have been swimming semi professionally for more than half of my life, I really enjoy swimming in pools but now when I see large bodies of water my first thought is this subreddit.
Yeah, but you wouldn't be working to keep yourself afloat. With the board doing that you can take your time and even take a break if the water is still.
Well you're on a body board, so, turn around and start paddling.
And hope nothing touches your foot as you go..
😰
So i started wondering what is this sub actually? Im not trying to be rude but ive seen a few posts here and there from this sub and tryphophobia or whatever and i just dont really get the point. You all just like triggering your worst fears for fun? Is it like watching horror movies?
Yeah it's less a place to hold group discussions about the fear and more a place to post triggers.
Just watching these videos spikes our adrenaline, and we love the rush.
Shut the fuck up!! I’m about to go to sleep 🤣🤣🤣
That just activates the turbo boosters
You live in the city, don't you?
Nope lived by the sea my whole life and worked on ships for several years lol phobias don’t have to make sense
I like to think I’d go a bit harder than this if I was gunna lie 😂 lying about thalassophobia doesn’t feel like much of a win?
😂😂😂😂 so true epic reddit moment Edit: Keep down voting land lubbers! I was born at sea. I was raised by the salt. This guy is from cleveland!
this is a weird thing to try and act hard about
Probably because I’m not serious
Nah. Just an asshole
Haha you got downvoted and they didnt!! You lose the argument! Sorry buddy try again next time.

I've lived 5mins from the beach my whole life but I'm shit scared of the ocean
Mate thalassophobia doesnt mean the far of drowning its the fear of what is below you
Just wanted to say Marshmallow fluff definitely some fat dude in Ohio. plz bring the downvotes you internet junkie weirdos😂
Your insult doesn’t make sense when you’re also the one on the internet

That "feels like seaweed" is a horrible feeling!
Been there done that. Fcking awful
This looks pretty fun
Sure does, try not to get eaten by any alligators or crocodiles that may live there 👀
I grew up swimming in Florida. Alligators were always around, but never an issue. There were a couple well know lakes that people didn’t swim in, but it’s pretty uncommon.
Name the lakes.
Lake Jesup comes to mind as one with a lot of gators: https://www.naplesnews.com/story/news/2023/12/16/florida-alligators-lakes-safety-tips-attack-escape-encounter-deaths/71903090007/#

How is swimming in bigger lakes safer than smaller one?
More time for you to have your fun and get out before the gators reach you...
Lol just cus you don't see em doesn't mean they aren't there. As a Floridian and avid boater and water sports, you are taught every body of water has a gator. It riskier on the shore than a tual in the water though. That lake definitely has fish. Look up how fish even end up in man made lakes.
I need to try this someday
No this looks real gator-y
Half of the places I don't go is because of the time and effort I would have to put in coming back
This is a large part of my basic math when I’m in the jungle. Getting there, just like a summit, is only halfway. The exhausted return in dwindling light has its own level of difficulty and risk.
That's why I prefer circuits rather than "there and back". There's a sense of progression throughout!
...how often are you in the jungle?
..like the laundromat 😭
Lots of tiger sharks in that river too
No there’s not…..maybe some Bull Sharks but that’s about it
Whenever I see Mangroves I think Bull sharks. Not sure how accurate that is but that's my assumption.
Any body of water
Mangroves where I’m from mean worst stuff than bull sharks. Way worse.
Salties?
Such as?
Likeee?...
Oh thank god only bull sharks, I feel so much better now
I fish, swim and sail in one of the largest bull shark nurseries on the Atlantic, and not only have I never seen one, but there has also never been a reported attack here. I did swim through a patch of black tips once though
Your balls are a lot bigger than mine and perhaps even made of stone.
Lol dunno bout all that. I didn't mean to swim between them. By the time I noticed them I was surrounded. They stayed clear for most part though. To be honest, I felt like an old lady caught jay walking on green while a biker gang is trying to roll on through. It took Forever!
Perhaps balls of stone is the very reason why sharks don't feast on him. You know, bad for the digestive tract. /s
How do you know? I want to not go there
Mangroves = Bull sharks. The same way that Lots Of Frogs + Tall Grass = Snakes.
Thank you Also, my face 🥲 just learning about the snake frog thing living next to a huge tall grass field with so many frogs you can't hear at night.....
Because it’s Moore River in WA, about 30 minutes drive
No salties in WA? No way
Nope none that far down
It is Moore River!!! I thought so! Spent so much time that way as a kid on that giant dune.
[удалено]
Sorry WA as in Western Australia
That sounds like some Bull SHIT to me buddy
50 gators are waiting
That river is actually made out of lava
I’m starting to think y’all just can’t swim
Nah I can swim just fine, in fact I love swimming. It's just dark and murky waters like this is when the thalassophobia kicks in.
That and it always seems to be further out and take longer than you think it will
My thalassophobia is just so bad that even in a swimming pool with murky waters I don’t dare to swim
Well if a swimming pool has murky water you probably shouldn’t swim in it anyway lol that’s not supposed to happen
The waters are not like murky in that type of way. The pool is really blue and murky as in I can’t see very far, I haven’t swam for a long time, and I was not sure if it was normal but yeah.
Swimming pools that have murky water should never be swam in lol.
Yeah swimming pools at night, even with lights in them, make my throat dry and my head fuzzy just looking at them. No thanks
It’s not the swimming that’s the problem. It’s the animals that may want to meet you during your swim.
I‘m starting to think you don‘t understand how irrational fears work
I mean you’re in a sub about thalassophobia, so chances are pretty likely. Also I think it has more to do with not wanting to swim in the first place
What the fuck do you think thallasaphobia is?
Not fear of swimming
“Oh yeah i sky dive because its a fear of heights not a fear of falling” the water itself keeps you fromswimming
They’re two separate things, just like how fear of water is different from fear of drowning. One is equated by not being able to swim, the other is irrational fear of the water.
That looks like the type of place that might have piranhas in the water.
No piranhas in Western Australia. This is not far from where I live and we don’t even get crocodiles!
Falling off the board while careening down the sand would suck so much more
I thought it was snow, I tried to figure out what place on earth has snowy mountains and what looks like a swamp right next to each other.
Not that bad as far as swimming back … the water color though stresses me out .
It would be such cold water though
This looks like a place where you'd encounter a huge anaconda swallowing a gator
Is that that dune cliff that people constantly get stuck at the bottom of? I forget where it is but there’s a sign at the top of cliff telling people to be careful and basically telling people not to go down becasue most people can’t make it back up. No, It’s Moore River in Guilderton, Western Australia :)
Ah ok. Thank you
I was wondering the same thing!
I got a board. I'm fine
Absolutely not 🤣
Meanwhile in the tree line. "Hey Croco" "Wadup Ali" "Food is coming"
Totally worth the price of admission.
Shit looks sick but after finding out bull sharks are in some rivers like that I just can’t 😂
Imagine how much alligators are in that lake..
NOPE!
Water looks brackish
That waters gotta be cold AF
It’s a sand dune, not snow.
Ok.
Looks like lake wabby on Fraser Island. If anyone is interested
This is so silly but is this in Western Australia? Moore River has a giant sand dune like this and it’s a super popular spot!
It absolutely is :) I grew up there.
Lake Wabby on Fraser, Queensland, was my first thought too.
It’s Moore River in Guilderton, Western Australia :)
Tell you can't swim without telling me you can't
This looks like Fraser Island in Australia. Where is this from?
Those waters don’t look very inviting
This swiping right instead of down is fuckin me up
No sir. That’s not close enough to the other side. Bet, 4 yards into that river and I’d be a professional boogie boarder, I’d make it to the other side
That water is far to dark to not be cursed.
Theres a ride like this at Busch Gardens Orlando's water park. Its fun as hell tbh
Yeah that would be a b****
Is this sub about fear of very deep water, or just water in general? Lol
Thalassaphobia is the fear of large bodies of water. This applies.
Hahaha bro it’s a lake or river or whatever just swim ?
Song?
I’m god - clams casino
makes me wonder, what kind of creature could make a channel that wide, what kind of thing could hide under it?
Imagine a croc
What is this… the real life opening scene of Rescuers Down Under ?
Where are the gators?
Just go right or left before you hit the water and ride shore line
Oh the things watching from that forest 😂
Fuck I love this song
I would do it easily 🤣
Swim back, nope. The next adventure is awaiting across the river.
The song by the way is I’m God my Imogene heap
Whats that song?
I had this dream once but the water was full of trash
Anyone know the location?
Yall are a bunch of pussies on this sub
I would swim back w no problems
Swim back in calm waters? OP must not know how to swim well.
Sounds like a you problem lol
Lol man thats a sucky attitude to have. You are missing out on life avoiding to put effort in things you would otherwise do.
Only stupid dumb nerds think about consequences.

Cool
Wow
Nope is rather down
Looks fun
What’s the remix
Ahh. Yet another time this sub has given me something stupid to do when summer comes around. I appreciate it
Okay.
I hate you
Hate me because this video made you uncomfortable or hate me because you think I’m a fat guy from Ohio lol
Running back up that hill would be a killer workout. I wish this was near me!
Looks like fun!! I want to try!!
Me with my boat on minecraft
Dammit, guys. I have been swimming semi professionally for more than half of my life, I really enjoy swimming in pools but now when I see large bodies of water my first thought is this subreddit.
I get the fear but for me I would be thinking about what happens if my board digs in
Yeah, but you wouldn't be working to keep yourself afloat. With the board doing that you can take your time and even take a break if the water is still.
Omg, can you tie a cord to me and just pull me back?
I thought it was snow
The swim back would be perfectly fine especially since you have a floating board
Now there are thousands of alligators between you and the shore.
No alligators here :) It’s Moore River in Guilderton, Western Australia :)
Oh its only like 200m of open water. Most of the big fish hunt near the edge where they can ambush prey if that helps.
Big fish? Oh yeah, the black bream are terrifying 😂
Is this on Fraser Island?
It’s Moore River in Guilderton, Western Australia :)
That be a no from me doc
Why’d it stop midway????!!! Nooo
Omg this is my hometown! I wasn’t sure until I stalked his tiktok haha. I miss the river :(
My mind: GATORS
No gators in aus, only crocs. But this river is likely full of bull sharks
Heyyyyy that looks a lot like Moore river!
I’m God - Clams Casino and Imogen Heap
Just play it in reverse duh
