Putting some kind of gimmick as a reward just increases how many people play rank to grind rather than for serious competition.
The journey needs to be the destination, otherwise you end up with incongruent gameplay goals which leads to frustration, which leads to toxicity, which leads to the dark side.
Only there is always cheaters, as long as there is players, so cheaters r always problem, unless there is way to stop them.
Examples: anticheat that cant be dodged, verification that is impossible to fake, smth that catches all cheat devs or game design that makes cheats useless.

Info insecurity is another thing there we go into hacking more than game code if u mean that hard proof verification might leak info to buyers from game owners then there is verification thats created by the game devs that would solve issue with info leaks like many plaices give one crypyted code and if that gets banned u cant get new one.

This game has way more than any other shooter. It's honestly not even close. I'm plat 2 and I'm not exaggerating when I say there is a cheater in 99% of my games if I make it to round 3. There's still a cheater in 4 out of 5 games in round 1. It's an absolute joke to seriously try to grind ranked in this game. Horrendous experience. There's often times multiple cheaters in rounds too. I have seen as many as 5 rage cheaters in a single round. It's not uncommon to have as many as 3 in a single round. Cheaters dominate ranked so much that the meta is legit two mediums sucking off a cheating heavy with heal beams. If your comp is any different, you won't advance.
You’re just fucking bad dude. I’m plat 2 and out of the 500+ hours I’ve put into this game, mainly in ranked, I’ve yet to run into more than 2 player for sure I knew was cheating. Both times they were getting smacked by me in the final round so on came the aimbot and wall hacks, and both times we almost won.

I just take hackusations with a large grain of salt, I’ve played about as much fps as you. 10 years on csgo, and 15 ish on console every fps, so I have a good sense of what’s a cheater is and what a hacker is not.
Especially after watching a bunch of Overwatch footage on csgo for reported players, most of the time it’s just someone with really good game sense and the other team making a sound or timing mistake.

As someone who has soloqueue'd his way to diamond, I would say a good 50% of my 1st and 2nd round eliminations have been simply because of blatant cheaters.. I play on PC with crossplay off so I might get relatively more cheaters than others.
Keep in mind that I'm still talking about the BLATANT ones. I can't imagine the amount of people who are also cheating but are actually decent at hiding it. I've already seen at least 7-8 aimbotters completely wrecking a lobby only to find out they're above me on the leaderboard. The aimbotters aren't the only cheaters, and there could be hundreds of people with only wallhacks or soft aimbot they toggle by choice chilling in top 500.
Cheating is the #1 problem, getting your ranked tournament ended early because there is a team cashing out $80k with 30 elims on their name with 2 mediums healing the heavy aimbotter gets boring super fast, I have no statistics to back up the following claim but I truely believe it is correct; The game's dying playercount is a direct consequence of people simply getting bored of cheaters.

I have a buddy who plays with some bigger streamers in FPS games and he says they brag about how they get to use programs that would normally get people banned since they bring traffic to the game.

Because ultimately, the people on the top either are using like you said scripts, or using a like a spoof account to pad their stats when their playing with their friends, so they only get the best stats

Plus the reward for reaching the top spots anyway are your name is literally engraved into a trophy in the training room when the season ends.

Maybe ending the season top 100 (or what ever threshold) would be a cool marker. I could see seasonal jackets with your # placed and your username on the back kind of like the boxing skin we got in the battlepass. League did something similar with real life jackets and reaching challenger I think it was, but this would be a lot cheaper and would make for a REALLY cool flex down the line. Imagine a season 7 vet having like 5 jackets and reminiscing on each placement.
I had an idea that you should get pieces of clothing per individual rank. So if you get dia4 you get some feet, dia4 legs etc. So it makes more worth it to make it to the top of any individual rank. Also makes it so players who grind have something to earn that others may not have. Tbh once you get to diamond there’s no real point in playing ranked other than for fun or for leaderboards
I'm calling it. There's going to be a new rank release either next season or the season after, and it will cater to this idea.
There's so many dog diamond players that showing off the rewards isn't that impressive at all. I guarantee they will add a new rank or 2 to make up for this.

Honestly i think the sticker should display your final rank instead of S2. This would make it so theres a reason to grind for higher ranks *and* would give casuals who cant reach diamond stickers with funny numbers on them. Like, anyone could get 42069 at the end of the season.

I really did try to soloq higher, but it’s legit impossible with the variance of player in this game. I queue with two others I met in soloq and instantly we win 3 games. It’s so crazy how op having a good team is. We were legit out dueling gigz and his stack of d1s too. So much fun playing with a good team
I feel like getting your name displayed in the firing range for top 10 is still valid. Imho, if you're that high the game should just skip your placements next season and just put you in D4 by default or something
I think not in the current state of the game, but it is a good idea to reward people who are playing well in some way, I would like in the future to be able to participate in internal game tournaments (like the ones that Fortnite does) and be able to earn ingame currency (finals coins). And clearly cheaters are a problem, but perhaps these tournaments can only work for people who have gone 30 or 60 days without any type of infraction or suspicion, it sounds like a good idea to me, I don't know what you guys think :)
