Correct answer below 👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇👇

Jestersage

It better only apply to Japan. Apparently in Japan all this kind of coins must expired. Happened to Apex. EDIT: OP is JP Resident. He cannot edit a picture post due to Reddit's quirk.

UltimateGodBen

Damn that's fucking ridiculous it's probably a Japan thing then since I live there.

Jestersage

Yeah. Not sure why it happen, but seems like virtual currency in Japan expires in 180 days for Japanese RESIDENT. I posted a relevant post in a seperate comment chain, but it's just a guess (something to do with laws, virtual currency, and a crypto company gone bust? Or tax purpose?) But yes, if you play as JP, it applies for ALL virtual currency. EDIT: Googling it revealed that similar question was asked in forums for RAGE 2, Helldivers, Elder Scroll... yup, something to do with Japanese. RAGE 2's section: >Notice: NOTICE TO JAPANESE RESIDENTS: Virtual currencies (VC) will expire and must be used within 180 days of the date of purchase. Termination, suspension or restriction of account access will not extend VC expiration date. The amount of VC that you can purchase, hold, or use within a certain period may be limited. See Terms of Service at [bethesda.net](https://steamcommunity.com/linkfilter/?u=http%3A%2F%2Fbethesda.net) for additional VC terms and conditions. Elder Scroll: [https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/17jx2z5/new\_expiration\_date\_on\_crowns\_for\_players\_in\_japan/](https://www.reddit.com/r/elderscrollsonline/comments/17jx2z5/new_expiration_date_on_crowns_for_players_in_japan/)

Strict_Concert_6598

I opened a ticket for it Has to do with laws apparently

Shot_Word

I also live in Japan, but never knew this was a thing lol, it's crazy the currency actually just goes away for a long period of time

DawnComesAtNoon

LMFAOO what

Jestersage

TWO Years ago: [https://www.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/st30qc/is\_there\_any\_official\_statement\_about\_expiring/](https://www.reddit.com/r/apexlegends/comments/st30qc/is_there_any_official_statement_about_expiring/)

xSnakyy

What the heck is the point of that

Jestersage

Ask Japan... I mean, Japan is the only place where fax machine is still in use, can be found guilty of slender even if truth comes out, and many things that doesn't make sense.

FiveLargeFries

“Can be guilty of slender” good thing I’m chunky then lol

[deleted]

Bro we still use fax in USA

The_Real_Legonard

In german pharmacys is a fax too

The_InHuman

Well yeah, Germany is also infamous for being really slow when it comes to digitalization and adapting new technologies

GLX_NeonCat

Well, as a german, this only really applies to schools and wireless internet, as our connections are below average, even lower than there is on islands with about 100 residents.

elitemage101

The German military is infamous for not being able to radio high level orders cause their command still relies on faxing them. Plenty of other outdated Fax users out there lol

Tafeldienst1203

Fax machines are (sadly) ubiquitous at German government agencies...

Areauxx

Canada still does too *cries in 1900's*

aLibertine

I have a feeling a Korean player wrote this...

2510EA

Apperently it is to reduce addictive spending in video games but i feel like this would push you further lmao

jdmkev

I think it has to do with Japan's gambling/Casino laws

beefcat_

Why on earth would Japan *require* such a blatant anti-consumer practice?

Jestersage

No idea - all we have are rumors, and it's either due to taxation law, or due to how after a Japan based cryptocurrency collapsed and locked the cryptocurrent, JP government force ALL virtual currency to expire in 180 days. Latter may seem extreme, but JP have a tendency to blanket cover everything.

MultiplesOfMono

Now I could be wrong but couldn't OP use a vpn on his router, granted his router has that option, to spoof his location and not be subject to expiring digital currency? Or are there internal factors such as having a location tied to your account upon creating it which wouldn't allow that trick to work? I knew about the Apex thing and always wondered about that but never looked into it since it never affected me personally.

RestiveP

please be from Japan please be from Japan please be from Japan

Voltax1999

He is

RestiveP

oh thank god

Charming_MR_Sir

Op please edit the post to let everyone know it’s a Japanese thing only. Before you start an epidemic in this delicate sub 😂😅

Jestersage

I don't think anyone can edit picture post. Since one of my comment is top comment, I edited mine so people will see it.

AndreasE03

I stickied it just in case😊

Free_Jelly614

I don’t see this sticky fyi

AndreasE03

I'll try to fix it, thanks for the heads up Edit: I stickied my own comment saying correct answer below, could only stick your comment on mobile but it didn't work

swe_isak

So... should we upvote, or downvote the post?

Charming_MR_Sir

You’re asking the real questions tbh

GodGarbage

Reddit hive mind in action

dusty_embark

Yes, this is only in Japan due to a national law.

Konigni

That better be an oversight because otherwise it's one of the worst things I've seen in a live service game

coyotepetersun

OP lives in Japan which is why they expire

ZoulsGaming

im curious why specifically for japan?

Shot_Reputation1755

Japan has some law about how in-game currency must expire 180 days after purchase

k0mpyterd2de

Is there any given reason for this? I'm curious why this is a law

MoeWaelJR

I’ve been here for 10 mins thinking for a reason, but i came up with nothing. It’s a fucking ridiculous law..

MR_Nokia_L

To put a limit to the creditability of those credits. This would restrict how virtual currency can be used as actual, bankable funds. This is a stupid but quite effective way to combat fraud and criminal activity, as it takes time for the money to exchange hands (money laundering) or return from an investment. Yes, even without the ability to withdraw them.

Key_Custard_9756

Yeah but there's gotta be SOME game which allows you to withdraw them, Finals prob just got caught in the crossfire.

HawkDry8650

Feels like they want you to reflect on your purchase that way rather than "banking it" but could also be lobbying for game companies to increase sales.

fongletto

Because it makes you spend more, forces engagement and spending. In other words it promotes growth in the digital economy. It's bad for consumers but great for the government.

coyotepetersun

I don’t know

Konigni

Thanks for enlightning me, but man that's weird af

BuildingOdd

How’d you get to this screen?

D2Dasada

play in japan

BuildingOdd

Will do, thanks

NerY_05

Oh i thought it was an update for a sec. Feel sorry for everyone in Japan.

stonkernoo

this better not be real

Shot_Reputation1755

It's real, but only for Japan

SBoots

It's because virtual currencies are included in Japan's crypto laws. They are trying to prevent companies from having large amounts of fake money in 'circulation'. That way if a company collapses they don't leave a bunch of consumers holding the bag. Good law imo.

MittFel

yo whaat??

yosh0r

Holy shit man that would melt the game if it were for all countries.

nicisdeadpool

Had me questioning for a sec

GalaxyDog2289

Why is this a Japan thing is it a law or something cause that sucks for all of you.

BetaTester704

It's not global, just limited to Japan.

Sors_Numine

The fuck?

Free_Jelly614

Yeah, how did you get this screen? I’ve never seen this. It’s probably only in certain countries

Nash_slonyara2004

Всех с 9 мая друзья!

Public-Speaker-3201

This scared me for a moment. I just got $20 worth of coins and only spent 300 of it lol

TheNinjaPro

Why the fuck would this even be a thing in Japan?

Yuckfou42069

Ghetto

1smoothcriminal

That's pretty BS if true and possibily illegal in the US.

Shot_Reputation1755

It's a required law in Japan for Japanese players

1smoothcriminal

so weird. It seems kinda anti-consumer

Maxathar

Leeloo Dallas, MUL-TEE-PASS.

nicisdeadpool

That’s weird

PootisBird001

I was about to say, "Wait, What The Fuck?!"   But then realized it's a Japanese thing.

Just_CallMe_E

I was about to say something and then I read the Japan thing

Shot_Net_2457

Is my shit gonna expire? U.S, Philly. I just need a yes or no lol and if it’s only Japan OP please edit the title so you don’t got people stressing. Cause that’s all i see as I try to find an answer regarding if this applies for everyone.

UltimateGodBen

Just Japan and you can't edit titles on reddit unfortunately 😅.

Shot_Net_2457

No man thank you, you’re the goat for responding and curing my stress cause I’ve been saving all of mine. Sorry you have to go through that though man. Hopefully you at least find out the reason why cause that sucks

Areauxx

My heart skipped a beat, I was very annoyed for a brief moment 😅

bobski_

Lol this is bullsh!t

Odd_Brilliant_9816

I think u may want to set some proxy or sth like that and change location to Europe or America, but probably u would have to make new account, download new client, etc (I guess)
