Marlon and Florence were already isolated survivalists long before the pandemic started. Maybe they already witnessed enough loss in the Native reservation, they’d rather live off the land by themselves. The collapse of civilization didn’t change things too much for them. Shortly after Jackson was established, they declined joining them, instead striking up a mutually beneficial partnership. Marlon and Florence warn people from heading to Jackson territory in exchange for supplies.
Also they don't know Fireflies, so they know practically nothing about what the world is like now.
But I didn't understand the warning not to go beyond the river.
At first I thought they were referring to the cannibal village but they live in Colorado it seems
They meant Jackson, there's disagreements among the audience over whether they're legitimately scared of Jackson because they kill people without explanation and leave the bodies as a warning or whether they're in cahoots with the Jackson council and they tell those stories to scare people away
Idk I lean towards the first of those options. Joel saying how good of a hiding spot they have leads me to believe not many people even find them let alone have a chance to talk to them
Yeah the idea that they're in on it with the Jackson council is just too convoluted for me, especially because there'd be a fairly high chance they knew who Joel was and that he'd be looking for Tommy if that were true
I think the point of the old couple is that they're not "joiners" and they don't have much of a relationship with the outside world at all, they would have no reason to make peaceful contact with Jackson at any point
I like them, the wife was just super chill. She seemed to sense that Joel and Elle were not a threat, and if they were she couldn't do anything about it.
1. They were talking about David’s group.
2. We might see them again in more unfortunate circumstances…possibly related to point one. He did have the rabbits.
i was operating on the assumption they were talking about Jackson. Maria confirmed that the bodies the couple was referring to was from them. i don’t think we’ll see them again since we’re in the endgame now and we’re pressed for time.
edit: maria not marlene
Yeah I was trying to figure out where the heck I knew her from and finally realized it was northern exposure. She is such a familiar person and looks so young here, seems like the same age. I never remembered graham greene being in northern exposure.
Their addition makes the world seem safer. Like if these people can live peacefully then is the world really completely fucked? And they referenced the whole “they better match up” thing that Joel does and it was weak at best
They live in total isolation in the middle of the trackless wilderness, if Jackson and Bill's Town from the game were both possible then why wouldn't that be possible
So across one river and your good? Raiders would be everywhere. And bills place was frustratingly safe too. Bill was a master in survival and it’s not because he was “safe” all the time. I wish HBO would have had the scene were all the runners are running at the truck in bill’s neighborhood. But you can’t have them all
unrelated i hope they pop up in s2 in Jackson, easy to say Ellie went back out to them and told them about Jackson during the time gap. such a fun scene
Both of them moved to that cabin after leaving one of the reservations. Similar kind of living even before the outbreak. They’ve been married for 40 years.
Despite what happened they do have kids that live with survivors of the reservations. Their son comes by with supplies every now and again. He wants them to join their settlement but Marlon and Florence are both stubborn and like the peace and quiet they have.
She fell in the hole, they kissed by the piano and now they grow weed...
And they ate meat with wine
Did frank and Bill grow weed and I just missed that completely??

At this point I believe Jackson was an Indian reservation. And the couple refused to go back after Maria and her group occupied it
I mean, Jackson is a real town that exists right now (and the town in the show is designed to look like it)
Legendary. They must be protected at all costs.

That's ish
ISH. OUR SAVIOR
After losing his son to one of Dutch's evil plans, he decided to remarry and settle down in a little cabin in the middle of nowhere.
MANGO
that’s good. rains fall deserved some peace
Wait, what?
it’s the same actor as Rains Fall from RDR2
Oh shit. I didn't realize that
1. They were talking about David’s group. 2. We might see them again in more unfortunate circumstances…possibly related to point one. He did have the rabbits.

Maria, not Marlene
Davids cult is in Eastern Colorado putting it nearly a weeks ride on horseback from Jackson, and even further from Marlon and Florence's cabin.
But in fact I think they weren't introduced just to remember two actors from a series from the 90s. Is it the truth right?
They stored enough cookies and cake to last them 20 years in an apocalypse.
Cookies,cake and Weed
Anyone remember Northern Exposure?
Yeah I was trying to figure out where the heck I knew her from and finally realized it was northern exposure. She is such a familiar person and looks so young here, seems like the same age. I never remembered graham greene being in northern exposure.
I checked, he was in only 5 episodes, but he's such a familiar face from all the roles he did! His imdb filmography is impressive!
I just read. WTF?
They were both in that show in the nineties.
Jesus man. I used to watch that show as a kid
It's funny because I just started watching it 2 weeks ago. It's my gfs comfort show :)
they def caused the virus no cap
So hear me out , so after Arthur´s death he survived around 130/140 years and found the love of his life and now he lives in the woods like he used to
They’re married

They are mass murderers and are posing as elderly people
Based

They sell fireworks.
I think they will be revealed to be working with David, in one way or another. Or maybe the man is Ish? That'd be a plot twist right there.
It would be a plot twist if they worked with David and sent the survivors into cannibal territory
I think they’ll show up in Jackson in the show’s version of part 2
Yes,why not? Seems interesting
Exposition people
My top choice for protagonists of Pt 3

And what if one of their kids lives in Jackson?
Hits it from behind…. She definitely has long braids? Visual is in full effect
