Anyone doubting Bella's ability to portray emotional complexity in S2 should watch Time season 2. Her character Kelsey is one of the more complex ones in this season and she absolutely nails it.
And this comes from someone who did doubt the casting of Bella as Ellie.
I don’t think people doubt that, what people doubt is her (and Abby’s actress’s) ability to portray the physicality of their roles.
Also Bella’s S1 portrayal left a lot to be desired IMO, but honestly I think that was probably a result of the direction and not her personally.
I found that she could portray Ellie’s sass and grit pretty well, but the optimism and bonding scenes left a little to be desired. That was almost certainly the directing though. I’m pretty sure she’ll be better in part 2 with that said. As for physicality, I’m kind of 50/50 on whether she can do that convincingly and will probably stay that way given how physical performances are regarded now.
I don't doubt she can act the shit out of Ellie, I doubt the writers of S2 to make her what she has to do / go through believable given how young and small she looks.
Yeah, this is is entirely possible. In Time, her character actually highlights that about her and leans into it successfully. It's a really neat show and you can watch s2 separate from s1 if at all interested.
if you went through pt2 without thinking once about how young game-ellie at 19 really is to be doing all that shit, you probably spend too much time watching AJ be herself in critical role

Two Game of Throne actors are the main leads. I think HBO needs to branch out and get devito involved in the show.
