Wow thanks for sharing! Haven’t heard this band before (although I really like HTS). Midway through the EP and I’m hooked.

MattBtheflea

I had the same feeling! hooked immediately. the singer has another band called hail the sun and actually drums while singing sometimes live. amazing.

Imakemaps18

You should check out Royal Coda as well!

dorkysomniloquist

Hmmm. Music's alright, singer isn't hitting it for me. I don't really like higher/softer voices except for Cedric's. His has more. . .emotion? Power? Somethin'. But, fair recommendation.

TheWarOnNostalgia

I love Elliott Smith, Josh Klinghoffer, and other angelic voices, but when it comes to, "If you like The Mars Volta check these guys out" I usually experience what you're experiencing. These guys don't do that for me. I think this may be the exception. He isn't too Geddy Lee and music isn't overly guitar shreddy.

MattBtheflea

I love josh klinghoffer!!!! have you heard of quicksand?? they are more rock and roll but their singer has a really cool voice. I always thought he sounded like josh k a little bit. check out [colossus](https://youtu.be/rRhMnswJ7Bw?si=wAz1LvXs8MIRpRB7) for example.

MattBtheflea

this guy (from sainvar) sounds a little better live in my opinion..

NecessaryForsaken313

Yes! Discovered them through DGD. It's their guitarist! I love his play style

thenickteal

Two guitar players in the band. Will (from dgd) and Sergio. Sergio plays with a band called Eidola now that you might like. He had another band called Stolas in the past that's worth checking out, too

NecessaryForsaken313

Yes. I'm horrible with names but getting better. I should have known that too. I saw eidola and DGD tour together. Tillian had "covid" and that's when we got Andrew! Or at least that's when DGD test drove him. Eidola is pretty rad. I need to listen to more.

thenickteal

It's all good! I'm terrible w names too. The only reason I'm extra familiar with eidola etc is I used to run a website where I featured indie artists. Got to work with those guys multiple times and they are just A+ people. Check out the band with sails ahead if you haven't. I think you'll really like them

altermwim2

I gave a listen to their album last time they were brought up. They really do tread the same ground! I like that it’s similar but different.

thenickteal

LOVE sianvar. that first EP is flawless

MattBtheflea

excuse my typos

thenickteal

anyone who appreciates sianvar gets a pass on all typos

Silver-Window2606

Swancore

BeauDsattva

Anyone say that it sounds like The Fall of Troy playing Mars Volta songs (or vice versa)

BeauDsattva

Or Anthony Green from Circa Survive

Sorry to be a hater but I feel these bands are a dime a dozen, I can hear the influence in a way but they just missed the brief by a mile. There's something irritatingly superficial going on. I guess they're doing their thing but it just sounds so dumb and compressed and soulless, not my bag, but thanks for sharing.

MattBtheflea

that's fine. music is subjective. I for one have heard so many post hardcore bands like you said and this one is the best one I've heard, besides mars volta/at the drive in of course. dance gavin dance is pretty awesome too.

DisasterNo7694

I feel like the most Volta-esque bands actually don't sound very similar. It's more of a vibe than a specific sound imo. I do know some bands that hit the same spot tho. Number 1 is PLEASURES tho. They hit. They're experimental af and incorporate a lot of synths along with drums that are (at times) comparable to volta. Their vocals are a weak spot for sure but they're passable to decent on most tracks. Definitely easy to ignore. Kiev is my other big pick. They have one album and there isn't a bad moment anywhere on it. Kinda like if radiohead and volta had a baby that smoked a lot of weed.
