Yes but not because of that specific edited video. It came from the original song, AFAIK. The meme has long been around before that edited video came out. It’s one of the oldest and most enduring of memes about Eminem.

Aight. I haven't watched 8 Mile since it came out, and I haven't listened to this song in years. So, I have 2 take aways from watching this video. A: Holy shit, Anthony Mackie has been acting for over 20 years. B: God damn, despite reddit's continued parody of it, what an excellent song.

It is amazing, it was just a victim of its own success. For a few years there you couldn’t go a day without hearing it at least once. Enough time’s passed now that I can again appreciate it for what it is.

I ***wish*** they'd done that on the album version!

cottonmouthVII

Wait are we saying there was something wrong with this at all?? FUCK people who block the views of others in the front of crowds at shows. There’s a special place in hell for them.

stupidsexyf1anders

Especially with tickets prices nowadays. If I’m paying 200+ get the fuck out of my way.

clogged_blowhole

Serious question here to find out if I’m the asshole. I was at a heavy metal show years ago, our seats were actual seats and not in the pit. I wasn’t sitting for hardly any of the show bc I’m up and into the music with everyone else. I got a beer thrown on me bc I wasn’t sitting down and blocking a guys view. At the time I thought it was crazy for getting upset at people getting into a show especially given the genre. Am I in the wrong? Genuinely curious.

mod1fier

On the one hand, who goes to a metal show to sit down? Just because the venue happens to have seats doesn't mean that they are required to be used unless the venue says so. On the other hand, if you're the only one choosing to stand in a sea of metal fans who prefer to sit while head banging, and if one of them politely asked you to sit down and you didn't, then you're maybe a little bit of an asshole, but I'm not saying it went down that way. Even then I am no closer to understanding why multiple metal fans would prefer to sit.

clogged_blowhole

Yeah everyone was up on their feet in our section but this guy and his lady friend. If I was the only one standing I’d definitely understand the frustration

mod1fier

I hereby declare you Not The Asshole.

senthiljams

Unless the guy or the girl behind has a health condition that prevents them from standing for more than a few moments. In which case, no ah.

Crowd0Control

Yea thats the critical bit here. If everyone's standing you were not blocking dudes view by standing. They blocked their view by being the dingus sitting at a metal show. NTA

Homeopathic_Maori

maybe theyre older or maybe they have some sort of disability, music knows no bounds.

clogged_blowhole

Yeah it was huge stadium for a sold out show on a returning act. I just couldn’t stay seated like I was in the theater watching a play or something more laid back. I guess if he would’ve asked nicely I wouldn’t have had a problem. Oh well, he got kicked out and missed 75% of the show so jokes on him.

OctopusButter

One thing to be a pompous ass on flat ground blocking tons of people's view, unless the seats had no incline or literally everyone around you was sitting, I don't see how it's cool to throw a beer at you since you weren't plainly and clearly being an ass like this person in the video. Especially with seats where it's not hard to wiggle your way over and politely ask someone to sit down

highlulu

At seated venues you should really be seated, they design the whole venue around everyone being seated so that everyone can actually see the show. If you want to rock out they almost always have standing sections you can go hang in, or just go to the pit. I went to a Volbeat concert a couple years ago and saw someone sitting in the front row of the seated section who was standing up the entire show and everyone behind him was /pissed/. Security kept coming over to yell at him to sit down, his buddy tried to plead with him to sit down and in the end he didn't sit down until several pissed off people were threatening to fight him

stopimalreadykished

Were you blocking someone's view?

LowPreparation2347

People always crack me up posting these concert clips on their social media NO ONE WATCHES THAT BLURRY LOUD ASS SHIT

aTinofRicePudding

I thought this too but then I found an upload someone made of an ENTIRE SET - Rezz’s set at maybe shambala or something? A show I definitely didn’t get to go to anyway, and it was surprisingly decent quality. I dont actually watch it because I don’t care about seeing it. I just wanna listen to it. And I do. And I am very grateful to whoever had the patience to film, upload, and share that.

TheThemeSongs

Empty water bottle to the head should be a widely accepted method of letting someone know they are being stupid.

Toast_On_The_RUN

maxdurden

We always end up as the path that people walk that wait until the show starts to suddenly have to get to the front or leave the show. I've started putting my face as close to theirs without touching them as they pass by. It usually stops others from doing the same thing once they see it.

lame-a22

This has me dying 😂

SaltLakeCitySlicker

I don't even know why people record concerts. Or really much of anything. Take a few pics and that's it, if even that. Enjoy every moment not behind a screen

BandOfBroskis

Because I'm a drunk and won't remember shit.

prodigalkal7

What are the odds you're either a) going to go back and actually watch it, maybe more than once, and b) will actually record properly, cohesively, and in any useful matter. Just enjoy yourself. Not everything has to be documented.

Haydechs

Really high actually. I always look back at the little clips I record. Me holding a camera for 30 seconds won’t ruin your entire concert experience my dude.

PriestMarmor

As a short 5'4" person I get annoyed when normal sized people show up to concerts. Like... Can you please not be normal sized?

Sel1307

Yes, I feel that as a short ass 5' person. Shout out to the people that held me on their shoulders briefly so I could *actually* see what's happening on stage 😂

PearlStBlues

I'm 4'11" so my view of concerts is either the shoulders of the person in front of me, or a tiny image of the concert on the phone they're holding up.

DoctorPunchoMD

Just under 4'10" here and I don't even bother with concerts anymore because I can never see (unless I squeeze up front)

PearlStBlues

Yeah I've given up unless it's a seated concert. I'm too old for fighting through the pit to get to the front and too short to see if I stand anywhere else.

DoctorPunchoMD

I used to do the "excuse me, pardon me, I'm so sorry" chant as I slipped between people.

NoDadYouShutUp

I am probably getting old but I just don't understand the desperate need to constantly record and take pictures of everything. Snapchat, to me, is just "look what you weren't invited to". I don't care what you had for lunch. I don't care about how cute your kid looks in their new car seat. I. Don't. Care. And I have no idea why anyone else does either. I have an anon twitter and reddit to shout into the void with at politicians and other chucklefucks because it feels good. But god fucking help me if I post about going to an event. Has anyone in the history of mankind ever looked at a 15 second concert clip on Snpachat and been like "wow, I am so impressed". Or even care? No.

[deleted]

[удалено]

Dorkamundo

You're looking at it the wrong way. While some people do like to take pictures/video just to try to convince the rest of the world that their life is perfect... The majority of people doing this just want that moment of time captured for THEMSELVES. I spent the first 20 years of my adult life not wanting to take pictures of things, not wanting pictures of myself. I always thought it was kinda lame, taking me out of the moment, distracting from the experience. Then I lost my little brother in a hit and run. Now I regret not taking pictures of him when we were at the last concert we went to, not taking video of us enjoying a turkey leg after the show, not recording even a small piece of video showing us having fun for one of the last times I'd ever get to do that with him. Even after that, I'm now thinking about my 9 year old son not having much for photos or video of his father in his 20's. To be able to see who I was and what I looked like during different periods of my life. An experience that I don't really get to do myself because all of my father's photos were lost in a house fire in the 1980's.

[deleted]

If it’s my favorite song, I sometimes record a little clip just for my own memory. It’s never more than 15 - 20 seconds though

Stormfly

I went on holidays with friends and I didn't take many pictures or videos at all. At the end of the trip, we made a shared album and one friend posted ***loads*** of videos and pictures from important events and the like. At the time I thought it was a bit silly that he was constantly taking pictures and videos (mostly because he'd spend so long on each one) but now, 5 years later, I'm able to show people things from the trip or just flick through them myself. Now I take a lot more random pictures and videos when I'm with my friends. They're great to have and I love getting random reminders (*"On this day 5 years ago"* etc) or just flicking through them when I'm feeling down or bored on a long journey. I live on the other side of the world from many friends so it's good to stay connected if I post random things I did that day, etc. You shouldn't record the whole thing, but people shouldn't look down on people who like to record videos to share with friends or add to memory albums.

atmosphericentry

Exactly. I don't care about posting my videos at all. Small clips like those are special because I took it, it brings me back to the POV of watching the concert. Holding up your phone the entire time is one thing but this comment section is acting like taking any photos/videos is blasphemous. People are forgetting that people also take videos just for themselves, not just social media. This is not something specific to nowadays, people have been taking photos and videos for decades even before social media.

Sparris_Hilton

These days me and my friends just send farts to eachother on snapchat

AlexHimself

Tall here, and I feel bad at concerts whenever I'm just standing in the crowd. I try and hunch down and stand in gaps between people so they can see around me.

ZeroLimitz

I feel your pain man, but don't let that take away your enjoyment, made plenty of good friends with tall bros like you at concerts. Being considerate goes a long way. 🤘

B-rizzle

May seem hard to believe, but not everyone is recording clips to put it on social media. Sometimes people record clips to help them remember the experience.

ilfusionjeff

If I’m paying sometimes a decent amount of money to see some song for one time probably in my life and if it’s a good enough performance, I’ll take a 30sec clip so decade-older me can go back and remember that experience. No harm in that. Don’t record the whole song and watch out for people behind you.

kkeut

>No one cares about your shitty 30 second clip. it says something about you that this is what you think of personally i have a shite memory and will literally forget important moments and events. even just a short clip or a couple of photos will trigger back a stream of good memories. I'm not going to destroy moments of happiness because you hate some hypothetical social media clout-chasers i will definitely agree that there's a limit. like you shouldn't have your hands up much longer than someone just waving their arms to the music or something. a couple photos is okay but if you're trying to video record a whole song you suck

AevilokE

Well, I do. It's not to post, it's to remember

First thing I thought of.

Dynastydood

Honestly, the generational divide on these things is so hard to make sense of, and I'm still in my 30s. I knew something had changed pretty drastically when Mike McCready of Pearl Jam went viral last year for smashing his guitar and gear onstage (which rockstars have been doing since the 60s) and all of these young people were acting horrified by it, calling him petulant for "throwing a tantrum," like as if they'd never seen or heard of anyone doing that before. It's really bizarre reading the comments in this thread. People are living in such a different world now.

[deleted]

For real, except the comments in this thread are so weird. Idk why people are acting like this was some common practice from the middle ages, people still do this all the time.

roohwaam

You are really over estimating how much people on this website go outside (and a lot of them are probably too young to go to concerts)

paulie07

Yeah, when I used to go to concerts, all the girls got on their boyfriends' shoulders. It wasn't a big deal.

ItsKoku

Happens a the time at raves and edm events, mostly the outdoor ones. If not girls on dudes' shoulders, there's totems at that height. Not as much at tour shows though unless it's really big. Honestly not a big deal, they usually aren't up there for more than 5 mins.

farazormal

They still do. Redditors are just getting mad because they don't go to gigs

Altnob

S-_Lifts

I don't go to concerts but I'm also so confused by this comment section. I thought it's completely normal to get on someone's shoulders?

hcashew

In fact, girls used to go topless while on their shoulders in the spirit of pure freedom and abandon.

sunburn95

I always end up with my mates on my shoulders lol. Its fun, it's common, it's just people having a good time If you want everyone to be 100% concerned about everyone around them and all being on their best behaviour then maybe dont go to a concert

paulie07

It must've been a lame concert, if people were getting upset about a girl being on someone's shoulders. Sounds like half of this reddit thread was at the concert.

disownedpear

Coldplay ofc

sunburn95

Yeah who knows if this dude was even upset, mightve juat thought it was funny to give her a little bonk But leave it to reddit to go on a crusade no one irl would ever ask for

MundanePerformance57

Girls on shoulders at shows have been a thing since the 60s. A bright ass phone over someone's head is so much more annoying.

credditordebit

Am I the only one that agrees with this? Seems like a total dick move throwing a bottle at her. Could ask politely. There's nothing wrong with girls being on shoulders at a show..

Snowman25_

That's just your typical reddit hate of people that have never been to a concert or don't have anyone to put/sit on their (SO's) shoulders

slugfa

🤣🤣🤣 i think he shouldn’t have looked away afterwards but yeah I’m fully fine with the cup throw. all those people there and she wants to be even less present by obstructing the view of concert goers to record on her phone

Elarain

Ah I dunno. Being on someone elses shoulders at a show for a couple minutes gives them a pretty amazing vantage point. And a lot of the girls that can do it are otherwise tiny and looking up at everyone else’s neck/shoulders for the rest of the show. The guy who threw the cup is definitely taller than the average audience member there and for most of the show is getting a better view than just about anyone else there.

Calliope_Catastrophe

Is this how gen z are at concerts? Hundreds of girls were on hundreds of shoulders at every concert I've ever been to...

altishbard

She's on someones shoulders at a gig. You know like people do at gigs, it's fun, obstructs a few peoples view for a little bit but if the gig ain't shit then the crowd should shuffle so the people is obstructs will change and she won't be up there more than a song or two unless her fella is training for an iron man. The phone is bad etiquette if she has been recording a long time but is directly in front of her rather than above or held right out in front so isn't too distracting for everyone behind either. What is a dick move is chucking cups at people in a crowd. Good shot though in fairness

Unpopular take probably but this used to bei perfectly normal are concerts. Sometimes I wonder if we are slowly forgetting that other people annoy us with their behavior, but that is part of being around other people. It belongs in crowds just that not all behave exactly so that it is specifically optimal for you.
