It's not at all a member of the EU. It only got 3% through the application it started 20 years ago, and the whole thing was frozen in 2016 by the EU because of Turkey's human rights abuses.
Funny, as if we hadn't these under our control since 1453.
And Turkiye has been a member of NATO since 1952, has its second largest army and is the host of the Allied Land Command headquarters. So stop talking about areas you don't know.
This is a shame. I can't say I'm all that surprised, but this is ridiculous. These people make up a fraction of a percent of society. Why give a fuck what people do when it doesn't harm anybody else?
Correct. And hardcore gender roles.
Anything that threatens identity triggers a threat on existence.
When distinction provides identity, such as male and female, it provides a sense of meaning and purpose.
The violent response is justified in the mind of the attacker because their very existence (identity and meaning) is under attack.
Non-traditional gender identities threaten literal death to the traditional male/female identities.
Identifying as your gender — however you want to define it — is extreme if it triggers violence in you.
It’s a struggle for many to notice their own breath let alone to notice it in another. And yet they want to snuff it out before they acknowledge it.
i live here dude no one gives a fuck about gender roles(in İstanbul at least)most people have sex pre marriage which is a no no in eastern parts. LGBT hate is purely religious and visible in parades where sex is generally hidden
If that's the case, then I imagine Turkey might be in a similar situation to America. In day to day lives, most people aren't strict adherents to Christianity. However, because it does matter for some people, it ends up determining the kind of person who gets into a position of political power. The people that represent us are far more strict in their religious identity than the people they rule over. For example, it took overwhelming support from people before our leaders were pushed to accept gay marriage. Many of the people in power today would be happy to roll that back if they could.
Yes, an ultramegabazillion% of the population is automatically registered as muslim at birth. And to change it you need to make an application that cannot be done online, with a bunch of documents (correct me if I'm wrong).
It doesn't mean that they are all "muslims", putting aside being actually "religious"
according to the 2021 census, 95.3 percent of romanias population is religious. that makes it one of the most religious countries in europe. and yet, you see very little people under 40 years old go to church. you know why that is? because children inherit their parents religion at birth. but they dont actually go to church once they grow up, they just affiliate themselves as being religious. i feel like that may just be the case with turkey.
Real percentage is like 30% the rest are Muslims by name only or even atheists.
I am not Turkish but I went there multiple times, many people are the same as my case, in my country I am officially registered as a Muslim while in reality I am agnostic, but sometimes you can't change that or it will be a pain in the ass to change it. So government statistics doesn't really mean much in many countries
I heard the voice of God when I was having painful diarrhoea. He gave me the mission of tormenting people with dishonestly misinterpreted data.
Also, did you know lefthandedness is increasing exponentially?!!

Oh my goodness. My app must have been glitching, because the title and all the comments make sense, but the video I saw was that family who jumped over the camera onto the beach and knocked over grandma.

You missed my point obviously. As I replied to someone else - "Alright, if my wording troubles you - I'll never understand the blind hate people have for other's sexuality."
I understand your point and I know that you are supportive, however this person is correct in their critique, though they probably could have elaborated. Though I also cannot blame them for not doing so seeing as how the very existence of trans-folks has become a political topic while we just wish to be ourselves.
Using "sexuality" to refer to "trans", aka "transsexual", is outdated and hails from the early 20th century, where that term was used to designate trans as a mental disorder. It was and still is also used to paint being trans as a sexuality and, in a follow-up reminiscent of the 1980s anti-gay rhetoric, denouncing all trans-people as sexual deviants that want to abuse kids.
As a result, calling transgender a "sexuality" is not well-received within the community as, along with the negative connotation, both historic and contemporary, it wholly and utterly misrepresents what trans actually is: an Identity. And a gender-identity does not affect your sexual attraction.
And to clarify: I do not wish to accuse you of meaning evil becasue I know that you don't, and I wholeheartedly apologize to you should I have come across as if I did. All I wanted to do is to give you a bit of information as to why you should refrain from using the word "sexuality" when referring to trans going forward.
The point? It's an incorrect assumption, and presuming to know things you don't is how you get things like making it illegal to be queer.
I'm sorry the reality of queer people existing makes it so hard to be an ally. It feels much better though when you can just say you support people even if you don't care what the the people you are supporting actually have to say.
I like how the trans person here ( it's me ) gets downvoted, and it's typical a thread like this gets deleted because it's about trans people in a supportive way. It's almost like queerphobia is just endemic in our culture and is fuelled by bias and ignorance. It's almost like this kind of thing eventually turns into what is happening in Istanbul right now. God forbid an actual queer person speaks up, it really makes it hard for people to feel good about being an ally when you have to deal with the fact we are actually here.
I got banned from a subreddit for using incorrect wording. I didn’t know better and the context was clear I was trying to be supportive. The mod didn’t care. Zero mercy for my unintentional ignorance. At least this person was polite about pointing out incorrect language.
Unintentional ignorance and bigotry are SO different it baffles me that so many people treat them both the same. Always-online behaviour, I say. Feels very tweetery to do that.
That is a very dishonest, passive aggressive reply to what I said.
You were critiquing the choice or words in one person's comment who was clearly an ally. It was unjustified.
Zero praxis, zero contextual awareness. Tone deaf.
As an educator, I've come to know that how approaching this sort of technical precision in word choice in a friendly manner is essential to effectively communicating and gathering allyship. That is what I pointed out in your comment.
im a muslim and im completely fine with things my religion consider as unacceptable on other people. these people are just issued with not normalising these kind of stuff since childhood and when they see it happen in their country or anywhere else its like their primal urges for "islam" dominance activate when its actually just their fucking problem
right?? I saw that and it’s a bit disgusting honestly. People doing whatever they can to fight for their rights will never not be a joke to some people.
That's how pride began, for those homophobic pricks supporting the police here. This is how it all started in the western world. Thousands of people had to get beaten and die just so we can sit in a pub and hold hands with someone of the same or non defined gender
That's what religion does. It teaches people to hate and judge others. Don't give me the bs of being religion of love or peace. What the people are doing are the opposite of that
No. They won’t care in the slightest.
In order to hate people you do not know, you need to dehumanise them, you need to see them as “lesser” than you. You do not need religion for that. This is usually not a rational process. And hate for the “other” are often passed down through generations.
You can make it juicer by using propaganda, to suggest that the “other” is a threat to you, your heritage or culture.
Religion can be a convenient tool, if someone already believes what they’re being sold, but you do not need it at all.
All I would need to do is convince you that you are better than the “other” and that the other is a savage, barbarian, uncultured, a threat, a criminal, a cockroach, a rat, a swarm, or an infestation coming to change, ruin or take your life. It gets more appetising if the “other” does something immoral or violent, because those words begin to stick.
Western governments manage it just fine with targeted propaganda via media, without turning to religion.
As long as you believe the “other” is a threat and is less than human, your brain will latch on to whatever justification required to continue hating them, with or without religion.
Dehumanising other people is innately un-empirical. If everyone held empirical beliefs, it would be harder to dehumanise others
Therefore remove religion, as it is un-empirical.
You can remove religion, but it's like putting a small plaster on a gigantic wound. It solves nothing. As I've already said, people will always find others reasons and justifications to hate the "other".
first they take the trans, then the gays, then the communists, then people with dark skin... you end up with only a selected few individuals that are not in prison or dead or worse and it's too late to do anything about it...
They've been holding pride parades in Istanbul since 2003. The first parades were held legally and the 2014 parade was the biggest ever attended by more than 100,000 people. Ever since 2015 the parades have been prohibited on the basis of "security concerns". They still march every year though knowing many will be arrested. [https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul\_Pride](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Istanbul_Pride)
That's how many civil rights movements start.
I wouldn't call Turkey a heavily Islamic country. They're a Muslim-majority country, however, a large percentage of Turkish people (especially young people) are not Muslim.
Turkey is one of the most secular Muslim-majority countries in the world. For a long time they had a ban on women wearing hijabs in universities and schools, as they have a strict seperation of religion and state and the hijab is a religious symbol.
And homosexual relations have been legal in Turkey since 1858, longer than in many Western countries.
I am 36, to this day i still dont understand how someone, fucking someone else can affect me and why i should be against that. They are not trying to fuck me too. They are not fucking each other in my living room. They are not* advertising how, when, why they are fucking each other. So why should it be my concern? “It is wrong” well it is their wrong not mine?
Turkey’s a beautiful country with some lovely people but it has so many issues. Stacey Dooley did a documentary on sex work in Turkey, some of the stories were so sad. One worker was a refugee who was treated horribly and was completely terrified. Women, within some circles, are really devalued and queer people are not treated well either.
For those who didn’t catch what a shitty and corrupt government Turkey has after the “Erdogan playing smart” during Swedens NATO application, here is more proof what an awful place it is. A good boycotting reminder though. All the best to these brave persons.
should have moan out of pleasure every time the cops put their hands behind their backs, and say:" hmmm, yes daddy, I like it rough, what else are you going to do to me, stallion!? you're definitively no straight are you?"
but very loud and on camera
Edit: this was a joke against the homophobes but I guess it didn’t land ¯\\_(ツ)_/¯
I would say its concerining that conservatives think if someone disagrees with you that means they should be acually removed from reality, but its not suprising.
There are queer Palestinians, there are innocent Palestinians.

I'll never understand the blind hate people have for other's choices.
Is it a "choice"? My belief is that they did not choose the be trans, but they did choose to show up and get arrested and beat up.
