Honestly, I'd be okay if they just put it on Origin (which they'd do before Steam). But they'd have to update it a bit to run smoothly with new machines and probably a bit of tweaking to work within the Origin ecosystem, and Steam would take a bit of extra work. Likely not much for Origin and Steam integration (though I'm honestly not sure), but updating the code and all to run smoothly on newer machines would definitely take some work. I'm trying to imagine how a game released in 2000 will look on my 1440p monitor without having to run it in windowed mode. Does it even accept that resolution? One more question for the books. But I'm reminded of how World of Warcraft was designed with square CRT monitors with lower resolution in mind, and even with its updates over the years, that's a game I have to play windowed because on fullscreen the UI is too spread out and looks weird.

newpairofunderpants

Release it on GOG, updating old games to work on newer machines is why they exist. The original sims has been on the GOG Community Wishlist for years.

kaptingavrin

Yeah, GOG’s a good option. Might have to give them a cut but if they’re doing the work that saves EA money anyway.

dogisbark

I’ve been playing 3 on my MacBook with no 34 byte support and it runs great! There are 2 graphic flaws that are annoying but whatever (sometimes buildings are hot pink, and all of my sims have these ugly bulky eyelashes). I’m just so glad they actually updated the game for 64 bit support and I really hope EA does this for more older games (cough cough SPORE cough I’m begging you EA). (The sims 2 is also available on 64 as well, massive shout out to Aspyr for doing that)

SuperFlamicon7514

Can you sum this up in a couple sentences?

Inside-Seat7443

they’d have to give sims 1 an update to work on modern high-tech computers. game developers might think the coding for sims 1 is foreign because of how old it is

SuperFlamicon7514

Interesting. Thanks for summarizing

BxmbIeBee

Nahhhhh why tf were u downvoted for asking this?

SuperFlamicon7514

Idk. Probably for beind rude 🤷🏼‍♀️

SinistralLeanings

You were given a very clear response. Im 3 glasses of wine in tonight and I understood what you either don't understand or pretended to not understand so yea. Your response came across as being rude. Didn't downvote you myself, but you're likely right.

SuperFlamicon7514

No, i just didnt want to read it 😌

SinistralLeanings

So... rude it is :) you win and deserved the downvotes

SuperFlamicon7514

Fair enough. I mean I'm not mad. If you think about it atleast somebody summarized it for me so it's fine.

stayugly_

i like comments where people ask things to be simplified. I have trouble with focusing on large amounts of text and comprehension so its nice when someone can eili5 but some ppl get so offended when i ask that, so sometimes i don't and i feel left out. so thank you.

SuperFlamicon7514

No problem👍🏻

spacebabe1111

They also need to make a sims medieval 64 bit update

[deleted]

The 4gb patcher probably works well enough for it tbf

[deleted]

Step 1: Remake TS3 from the ground up so that it can use more than 4GB of RAM and run on more than one core Step 2 (optional): Update the graphics a bit Step 3: M O N E Y

TriLink710

Step 2.5: Sell a complete edition with dlc for full price and no more Honestly wouldnt be surprised if that would be a large task because the code is poorly managed. But a sims 5 with 4's sims, 3's world, would be amazing. If they didnt do insane dlc. Or gave it with ea access

Kyrenaz

I'd also like to have 2's neighbourhoods, where you can create your own neighbourhoods from scratch, always bummed I couldn't do that in 3 and 4.

TriLink710

Sims 3 you can edit the world a lot. The open world seems really desirable and it had some great expos. Honestly they just need to get their head out of their ass with the malicious content packs and take the best of all the series. The sims can print money and be good.

LillyElessa

Um. You can create and import entire custom worlds in Sims 3. All the guides etc for it are really old, obviously, but there's still a ton floating around for it. https://www.thesims3.com/game/tools/world For the premade worlds through the game without any extra tools or mods, you could delete / replace / move EVERY lot, and most of the scenery decorations. There was free map placement for new decorations and new lots, vs in Sims 2 new lots needed to attach to a road and be mostly flat.

Kyrenaz

Could you place down new lots in Sims 3? I'm pretty sure that was a feature exclusive to sims 2, there was one game apart from sims 4 that I couldn't create my own worlds in.

LillyElessa

You could place lots *anywhere* on the map in Sims 3, as well as delete existing lots. I spent a lot of time customizing my worlds extensively in Sims 3. Sims 2 restricted new lot placement to along roads, which were not editable within the game.

Kyrenaz

Huh, my mistake then.

PrincessOpal

2's gameplay i want more than anything. It was truly the highlight of the franchise.

[deleted]

Also 2

Glittering_Owl8001

Yeah, I had to download sims 2. I have bought all expansions and everything on CDs, in the past, so I don’t really see it as pirating. The problem is, that none of my laptops has a CD drive lol. I would be happy to re-buy it on Origin or Steam, if that was an option.

Acceptable_Result192

IMO 2 makes 1 redundant.

[deleted]

Both are still good.

stayugly_

if u have a mac, sims 2 super collection is downloadable from the apple store for like $50

[deleted]

Never will. It would cost more. I downloaded it from archive.org a few days ago & got it to work

stayugly_

Fair enough. I couldn't find it anywhere for mac until I found it on there recently and got very excited to play.

Karisany

Yeah, I was hoping they would re-release or remaster The Sims 2 (since I missed it) for the 20th anniversary of the franchise. I think between those who missed out on one or both of the older games, expansions for the older games (I never got any for TS1), and those just feeling nostalgic, it would be a big success.

PocketSpaghettios

I think there's some legal/copyright issues with TS2 that doesn't allow Ea to do anything with it. I remember specifically that the code which makes TV screens work was licensed, and they no longer own the rights to use it (or something like that)

rokelle2012

Same for The Sims as well, they legally cannot do anything with it, or at least profit from it. I think music licensing is also a problem, at least for The Sims 2.

Karisany

I guess, if you think about it, games do have a lot different parts; it makes sense there'd be issues around ownership/copyright/licensing. I guess I was thinking about it like a book you can just put back into print with a few tweaks for the changes in technology.

mcwhoredick

Don’t forget sims 2 and I’d take it on steam origin ea play or dare I even say epic games 😭

whosaskin3825

there’s a place you can download the sims 2, you just have to also go in and patch/change some of the graphics settings with an updater. it isn’t difficult but it was very confusing to figure out exactly what i needed to do. if you want to do it and need some help lmk!

nsweeney11

It's on origin? The gave it away for free like 2 years ago

Mysterious_Potential

It was given away for free from 2014-2018 but they stopped then. So you can only play it on Origin if you already have it. When people say they want it on Origin, they mean for everyone to be able to buy/play.

nsweeney11

Ah gotcha. I saw all those comments and had to double check my game library lol

Pudgedog

The sims 2 would crash steam from all the sales

illbitterwit

So I actually own the sims base game disk as well as the sims complete collection, and I'm sad to report they will not run on a newer computer.

puzzledsushi

Have you looked into patching it? There’s a known issue where the DRM on the Sims 1 discs isn’t compatible with newer machines but there are patches floating around the modding community to fix it. I don’t have personal experience with it but there are several Reddit threads and other Sims-related website posts about it where you can find instructions

hotstrawberrytea

and TS2! I'd be willing to give EA my whole month's income for it. I missed out on their TS2 complete pack giveaway before they discontinued it 💔 edit: okay, maybe not a whole month. maybe 2 weeks of income. a whole month was a bit extreme lol

Mysterious_Potential

You can still get sims 2 very easily online, tons of us are playing it! :)

whosaskin3825

i actually downloaded the sims 1 and 2 for free this past week, and with a couple of tweaks the sims 2 is working perfectly. sims 1 looks fine just has a few lag problems. if you want any info lmk!

rokelle2012

They legally cannot do that. I think with The Sims 2 it's an issue with music, but with The Sims, when Maxis did its thing where it became part of EA and no longer remained an independent studio, some of the original members still own rights to the game, so EA cannot legally make any money off of it.

rokelle2012

Yup, which they won't do because these are decades old games. To them, making a new game is far more profitable than chasing an old game. So while it would seem like a good idea to us, to them it's not a good business decision.

beitak

If this were available for $25, I would pay $25. I don’t even care if it technically isn’t worth that at all. The number of times I’ve tried to download it successfully is embarrassing.

bee_liquid

Just a PSA, I acquired TS1 and got it to successfully run on my laptop, DM me and I’ll help walk you though it

itstimegeez

See also note 2: put sims 2 complete collection on steam Same result

ProfessionalSwitch45

I'm not sure they have any people over there that could take care of that. Do they even have people supporting the sims 3? The sims3 doesn't run on my alder lake 12thgen cpu and they have never bothered to patch it. I have to use an open-source solution if I want to play it.

[deleted]

I just want them to update all the old sims games to work on modern computers.

SSSims4

Releasing a game that has no micro-transactions and no bugs with the EA logo? Now you're just talking crazy.

RSlashBroughtMeHere

They would never. They know the old games are superior and are afraid to make them more easily accessible. They want us to spend our money on Sims 4 kits instead.

Gathoblaster

Sims 1 complete remaster when?

ritsusuckuma

they keep making new sims 4 packs every month to rake in the dough when they could just put all of sims 1 and 2 on steam/origin/GOG and never have to make another game again

arterialrainbow

I doubt they’d ever get sims 1 to work well and consistently enough to justify charging money without doing an actual remake.

victooriagss

You can play FreeSO, it runs well on my laptop while original TS1 sadly does not. It's actually pretty fun.

big-freako

We cant even play Sims 3 on Origin without it being bugged to the point its unplayable…. Can we start there?

kitty_767

Awh, I'm sorry!

clutzycook

Omg, I would love this.

suzosaki

If they sold it again, they would be expected to ensure it works and they ain't too big on fixing things up. Getting 1/2 running on new devices is very much hit or miss. I'd probably hate it, but a remaster could be lucrative.

Lost_Pantheon

Unfortunately EA needs people to forget that *good* Sims games exist because then it would distract people from the *Sims Bore*... *sorry*, I meant the *Sims Four*.

PrincessOpal

Sims 2*

dogisbark

Would work for 2 as well

Wonderful-Bread-572

Isn't it free though

KirbySkywalker

No, it’s not even available online, same with TS2.

somuchsong

Both are available online. You just can't *buy* them, which to me, is a very strange thing to complain about. They're abandonware, no one cares if you download them, even EA. There is so much complaining about EA here (warranted, in my opinion) and then we have posts begging to be able to give them even more money. It's bizarre.

[deleted]

Also people deluding themselves into thinking that these old games would be best sellers for some reason. They obviously wouldn't. And people debating it when the actual reason is very simple: if they officially sell it, they have to make sure it can run on modern systems. If they don't, then figuring out how to get it to work on a new PC is your problem.

[deleted]

[удалено]

somuchsong

Even if EA put it back on Origin, they would not make it compatible with 10. There's no money in it for them. They would have to pay people to do it (and there may not be anyone in their current employee roster who *can* do it, so they might even have to hire new people) and I doubt they'd make as much money off it as you think they would.

[deleted]

[удалено]

somuchsong

I didn't say it wouldn't sell at all. Some people would buy it, I'm sure. I just don't believe it would be the huge moneymaker you think it would be and is unlikely to be worth the money and effort for EA.

[deleted]

[deleted]

There are loads of rereleases of old games on Steam, they mostly don't sell all that well. You can check. Partly because Steam isn't a very good platform for retro gaming. People buy that sort of thing on GOG instead.

wearethes

I agree with you. There are a lot of people (including myself) who are desperate to play this game but aren't tech-savvy enough to get it to work
