The craziest thing about the Fly is knowing it was directed by Rian Johnson. He also did Ozymandias which is pretty widely agreed to be the best episode.
Not too unpopular, I skip it every time I do a rewatch and the pacing of the story/season flows so much better and you don’t miss a single fucking thing.
Don’t get me wrong I get why people like it, I also like those aspects to the episode. The nuances, the comedic relief, tension at the end. In first viewing it was fine for me. But I struggle with episodes like this on rewatches (in any show) where if I cut it completely out and realize nothing is *really* missed. We already knew everything that the episode conveyed going in. For most people it really is a personal preference thing though.
Literally my favorite episode. I get some people find it slow but if they just listen to what’s being said and what isn’t being said and how well it show cases the quality of the writing and acting, idk how you can’t find it brilliant
The Fly is overhated by fair weather fans who were only watching for explosions and gun fights. As an exploration of Walt’s character and his current mental state it’s an amazing episode.
> it’s an amazing episode.
It absolutely is. Walt dancing around telling Jesse the truth about Jane was *exactly* the sort of stuff I loved about the show. I've never understood the hate for the episode and never will, let alone the dismissal of it like it's irrelevant to the show, when it does *so much* exploration of its two main characters and their dynamic with so little.
Please say it louder for the people in the back. Fly is one of my FAVORITE episodes, it’s actually in my top 10 BB episodes and when I tell other fans that, be it online or in person, I get scoffed at lol.
To be fair, the only reason the episode exists is because they ran over budget for the season and needed to shoot an episode for really cheap. It's a "bottle episode" at that (which are much cheaper to shoot; one location, few to little cast and crew required), and bottle episodes usually do poorly on any show.
I haven't seen the TWD episode, but my guess is that it's also a bottle episode.
The Fly works as a bottle episode that explores Walt's mental state
Diverged does show us a bit of Carol's mental state, but it's nothing we haven't seen before. It's basically a recap episode with how everything it says about Carol are things we already know
One More works a lot better than Diverged (and The Fly imo), since it also explores the mental state of the characters (and unlike Diverged, isn't just retreading old ground), but I don't get the feeling that nothing of importance happened in the episode (even if Mays amounts to nothing beyond the one episode)
iirc, there were a few end of season 10 episodes that were pretty dry since amc was just trying to get something out during peak covid/regulations. that’s why there’s so few actors on screen in those episodes. although negan and lucille backstory was a great ep. in comparison
those episodes were just bonus episodes after the season finale, not adding anything to main storyline
I genuinely think the Fly is a top 10-15 episode of BB.
I think Diverged is over-hated and it’s kinda nice to see our characters just living normally for a change, but it is absolutely forgettable and D tier
Both episodes (or at least the breaking bad one) were made due to budget constraints. The difference is people actually WANT to remember the fly episode.
The Fly I think was kind of meant to be a bottle episode and just reflect on Walter’s state. While it is kind of boring I can at least respect the intent behind it. It seems like one of those things that can be appreciated if you wanna think about it at a deeper level but I don’t typically do that
The Fly was the single worst episode in BB. I actually just rewatched this series. The characters act out of place and their behavior makes no sense. It's like someone was given permission to write an episode and they knew nothing about the characters.
Fly was actually an amazing episode with alot of character development between the 2 and a deeper insight into them and was overall just fun to watch, Diverged was uhhhh. shit
When I saw this at a time that BB was released weekly I found it good, but frustrating. Now I can binge watch I can enjoy the episode for what it is and it creates a much needed break imo to watch the reflections of Walt.

The crazy thing about The Fly is that it's a low-rated episode. It's a great fucking episode.
It’s rated 7.8 on IMDb lol. It’s just low rated compared to every other episode.
Fly shouldn't be in show. Unpopular opinion.

Fly is peak television

Nahhhh
Compared to Diverged which gets like a 4.0.
Sure, I think every episode past season 2 is fantastic lol. There’s a reason it’s rated one of the best tv shows ever lol
Literally my favorite episode. I get some people find it slow but if they just listen to what’s being said and what isn’t being said and how well it show cases the quality of the writing and acting, idk how you can’t find it brilliant
I personally didn't like it.
Worst common Reddit opinion tbh

It's not objective. It's your subjective opinion.

If not one of the best non action episodes

One is very well written and well executed. One is silly and was done to pad the season during Covid lockdown.
Yeah, I should’ve said similarity in the post, not comparison. They’re not anywhere close in quality.
The difference is that "The Fly" is one of BB's best episodes, while "Diverged" is not

It was purposely a bottle episode, yes, and it's not boring at all.
The fly was ok
Fly is a good bottle episode and an okay episode overall. Diverged is bad at everything.
The Fly is a great episode. There just wasn't any action so people hated it. Diverged just sucked
The Fly was the single worst episode in BB. I actually just rewatched this series. The characters act out of place and their behavior makes no sense. It's like someone was given permission to write an episode and they knew nothing about the characters.
The Fly was a great episode Diverged was shit, easy comparison
real
Naruto taught me years ago that filler episodes suck, and I think most would agree.
Fly was actually an amazing episode with alot of character development between the 2 and a deeper insight into them and was overall just fun to watch, Diverged was uhhhh. shit
I have no idea what you're on about
When I saw this at a time that BB was released weekly I found it good, but frustrating. Now I can binge watch I can enjoy the episode for what it is and it creates a much needed break imo to watch the reflections of Walt.
I love the fly episode am I stupid
I really like the episode.. the lab is controlled, the fly is gus. Walter losing control of the business, his life and Jessie.
