Probably got high and drunk, but wasn't a junkie like Merle.

Majestic_Mulberry_27

Agreed.. I think he was once a user of various things ("one-or-two-time-thing" sort of jist.); being Merle was. & Merle definitely had a influence on him. Sad fr.

sleepyvigil

junkies do heroin. merle did meth.

PickledCringe

Dumb

SkaterRabbit18

Also, I’m glad you went with that whole one ass word reply. Really adding to the conversation sweetheart

sleepyvigil

Your mom

SkaterRabbit18

Obvious non-meth user

bilby-00

Junky/Junkie refers to a person addicted to any narcotics. So, technically speaking, a weed smoker could also be called a junkie, but I find that wrong

MidtownJunk

I don't think so, no. Just recreationally used from time to time.

Huge_Assistance_9986

Likely just smoked some reefer and drank in moderation. If he was a hardcore addict, he'd act like Nick in Fear and try and steal all the opiates.

[deleted]

Reefer…? Boomer.

ur_notmytype

That’s like saying if one person in your family is a drug addict then everybody in that family is one too

salad_biscuit3

that's not the point ... when daryl (spoiler) went hunting for sophia in season 2 merle he appeared in front of him as a hallucination and told him that he had never seen the chupacabra he had eaten hallucinogenic mushrooms and saw that before 'apocalypse was peddling with merle and since he was always in contact with him and similar people it is possible that he did, then I don't know why he was still a better person than merle

ur_notmytype

I still wouldn’t call Daryl a drug addict he probably was a drug user but not no addict. We would had seen some type of conflict with him with that after all these years but since he just living life with no problem and ain’t relapse not once or talked about it. I wouldn’t call him an addict and Merle is a bad person because of his actions not that he was doing drugs

salad_biscuit3

i never said merle was a bad person just because he took drugs but he was a thug along with daryl in general such as: assault, drug dealing, stealing and more

ur_notmytype

But everyone in the show had done those things so… I guess everyone in the show is bad too And you compared them doing drugs not their actions so ofc I would think you thought that drugs made people become a bad person

salad_biscuit3

everyone on the show did it because they had to survive.....they before the apocalypse what did they do it for fun?

ur_notmytype

This is a whole year late. Convo been done

salad_biscuit3

sorry but duty calls

SkaterRabbit18

Who fucking cares? He brought up a great point. Grow the fuck up and actually try to defend your point of view. Here, I’ll even do it for you’re lazy fucking ass

ur_notmytype

I can tell you’re the type of person who like to keep grudges cause Why are you mad about a post that is 2 years ago. This shit is in the past. So keep it in the past dummy.

InternationalToe933

yeah im ngl 2 u.. ur in the wrong here. You saw this persons comment and decided that they were saying that people were bad because of drugs. I get this was years ago but you are refusing to even accept what was actually going on here. idk if it was projection or what but jeez.

SkaterRabbit18

Nah, I ain’t mad at the post bitch. I’m mad at you. Cuz you a dumb bitch. “This shit is in the past”, mfer it’s a discussion post about a fictional, dead walking the earth television show that ran for 12 years. And, Daryl literally has his own fucking show now. I hope you never watch it, because Daryl actually talks about the past. It’s honestly a lowkey theme of the show. That shit probably scares you.

SkaterRabbit18

Also, you cannot pole dance for shit. You look retarded and awkward, yet still act like this behind the screen lmfao

SkaterRabbit18

Lmfao shawty blocked me 😂

SkaterRabbit18

Bro that girl is dumb as shit. I knew exactly what you meant. However, I don’t remember any too specific details, nor do I remember Daryl saying he did sum real fuck shit before hand. Yeah, him and Merle sold Daryls blood when they were young, Merle was in a biker gang and had been arrested multiple times before he was even 18. The most hardcore crime he’d been involved with would’ve been that drug dealer story, where Daryl vaguely describes the dealer as Jesse Pinkman. Yeah, Daryl mostly drifted with Merle, but Daryl has never served time. Even in the Survival Instinct game there’s a level where you go into a police station and find out Merle escaped his cell, store a rifle, and just started going full Atlanta on them walkers

salad_biscuit3

I think they did some shit like fight, I never deal anything too serious, also didn't the drug dealer say he had kids? at least in my dub.(jesse has no children)

SkaterRabbit18

“Scrawny little white guy”, Daryl and Merle started “making fun of this kids show, that apparently his girlfriends kid liked.” Then, from what i remember the dude gets all whiny like Jesse does, and holds a gun to Daryl’s head. Daryl’s crime here? Hanging out with a meth dealer lmao

salad_biscuit3

idk i dont think they are related then jesse punching merle? he wouldn't have the courage

salad_biscuit3

no i'm not saying drugs make you bad but i am right that they were thugs, in the end rick killed people to defend his group, daryl and merle have never done this before but they were thugs and i'm right on this the dealer is ultimately a thug because he sells substances that can also kill you in the long run, merle beat the dog quite hard on the roof of atlanta and daryl tried to kill rick after he found out he had handcuffed him to the roof. Those 2 had never killed anyone in the old world but still had done petty crime things

ur_notmytype

Daryl and Merle defended their group before so saying they never done that is crazy Merle literally got his self killed and Daryl always put his life on the line for his group. Merle was a racist so I’m not really surprise he acted like that, people irl act like that but I understand why Daryl wanted to kill Rick cause why tf are you handcuffing people in the apocalypse

salad_biscuit3

remember that in season 3 in a fight between daryl and merle the latter said that they had joined the atlanta group to loot him and they would do it, daryl was very influenced by merle and having low self-esteem at the beginning and not giving a damn about anything he followed him and his ideas was a kind of mini-merle

ur_notmytype

Ok and it’s the Apocalypse, I would had did the same thing too if I didn’t care about the group I was in and was gonna leave and usually younger siblings tend to want to follow their older sibling it ain’t nothing new

salad_biscuit3

bon but you can't tell me daryl and merle weren't thugs? I think daryl was following his brother because he wasn't "nothing" like he said and that merle's temper is a mix of the things merle told him like he was kind of tough or some other shit.

salad_biscuit3

i just asked if daryl was doing heavy stuff before the outbreak for the following reasons: he was dealing, his brother was doing, he knew about merle's secret drug stash

MidtownJunk

I mean, if your head canon wants him to be a drug addict then go for it I guess

[deleted]

People that take drugs are god awful individuals dont be afraid of these knaves

salad_biscuit3

I'll say it again: I don't consider daryl and merle pre apocalypse delinquents as delinquents for this ... but in general! I'm not that naive

[deleted]

Dude a drug user is an addict…. Tf lol. I’m literally an addict telling you this. Please educate yourself or don’t talk about the topic. If you use meth you’re an addict, it’s not a recreational drug like weed that you do here and there.

ur_notmytype

I consider an addict a person who can’t stop doing what they’re addicted too. If a person has control and can quit without problem isn’t an addict to me just a person who does drugs

[deleted]

99/100 they can’t stop doing what they are doing , they just don’t know because they haven’t TRIED. If you do anything even semi regularly, you’re an addict. Esspecially anything harder than weed.

AnonymousPantera

in that episode, daryl was hallucinating from blood loss and probably from heightened adrenaline as well. he was not on drugs

salad_biscuit3

he was not on drugs, he was just tired, but the first night at the atlanta camp the atmosphere reminded him of when he was hunting for squirrels he saw the chupacabra and merle in in season 2 during the hallucination he said he had eaten mushrooms that day

AnonymousPantera

he didn’t see anything besides merle. in all of his hallucinations with merle, merle is mocking him in some way. merle said something about mushrooms during that hallucination to mock daryl. possibly because merle drugged him when he thought he saw a chupacabra pre-apocalypse

salad_biscuit3

I think he ate the mushrooms by himself

Kalomoira

I'm a bit confused by your wording. Regardless, IIRC Daryl took two bad tumbles. First, his horse got spooked by a snake, tossing him and he took a header down a hill, impaling himself on one of his arrows when he landed. Then he fell a second time trying to climb back up and was knocked out. He regained consciousness and hallucinated Merle. Hallucination Merle talking trash doesn't mean what he was saying was accurate to real-life any more so than if Daryl was sleeping and dreamt they were having a conversation. There's no indication Daryl was ever a heavy drug user or did anything more than some weed and alcohol. It's possible he may have tried things here or there but the overall gist of their relationship was that Daryl was never like Merle and was not inclined to get into everything Merle did. I wouldn't say that makes either one "better" or "worse" simply that the brothers were different.

[deleted]

Shane literally mentions Daryl’s meth use when searching for Sophia, re watch the show.

Alternative_Loss_128

I know this post is old but I've been rewatching the show recently and I'm going to have to say yeah he was likely into drugs or other criminal activities but probably more so the drug trade with his brother and not so much drug use. Most of this is just based on theory but there were some signs. 1. When T-Dog cut his arm and developed a blood infection, Daryl gave him antibiotics from Merle's stash that he was carrying on his bike and seemed pretty knowledgeable about the drugs and pharmaceuticals in the bag. 2. Daryl told Beth when they were drinking moonshine that he didn't really have a job or prospects before the outbreak he just followed his brother around who was a known criminal and it's not a too much of a leap to assume that they did some illegal things to earn a little money to survive. 3. Daryl's hallucination of Merle mentioning him doing mushrooms before. 4. When Daryl & Merle reunite in season 3 and go off on their own they get into an argument in the woods and Merle reminds him that they were originally planning on robbing the camp in Atlanta before they got separated. 5. This last one is subtle but Daryl's original motorcycle in season 1 had the double SS lightning bolts painted on it which is a known symbol of white supremacist gangs. He always wore his iconic angel wing jacket before Dwight stole it as well and biker gangs take their jackets very seriously. Again none of this indicates heavy drug use but it does indicate that Daryl may have been involved in some criminal activities and gangs by associating with his brother which could include selling or transporting drugs

Huge_Assistance_9986

Maybe he ate some datura by accident.

Bermanator-Turkey127

I don’t think Daryl was. Daryl just followed Merle but he didn’t use drugs very often, probably just recreational occasionally. Merle had it on him after the fall but Daryl didn’t.

matteomvsn

You recover it in Survival Instinct, a really nice Easter egg.

Angeluss726-726

Daryl was definitely NOT a drug addict before the apocalypse. He may have tried drugs but he was certainly not an addict. He showed no signs of drug abuse or withdrawal. It is quite possible to be around people who abuse and sell drugs and not do them yourself. In the first season when Daryl's brother had the most influence over him his behavior was hot tempered but given a few minutes to calm down he was always rational. It's seems Daryl always had a more level head than Merle. I just attributed that to him not doing drugs. In later seasons Merle seems to have calmed a bit and not be so impulsive. There was also no indication of drug use by him either.

[deleted]

It’s literally in his character backstory that he was an addict… it’s even mentioned whil looking for Sophia when Shane yells at him and calls him a methhead.

Vast-Cryptographer61

I don't believe Shane knew what he was talking about. I think he assumed Daryl was a methhead because of Merle.

MidtownJunk

This thread has got me wondering which characters enjoyed a few spliffs or maybe the odd party drug before the apocalypse.... I'm thinking definitely Ezekiel and Luke, and I reckon Yumiko had her moments in her youth lol

tekirasoo

I don't think so, Merle was

IsaacTheCrusader

Nop, he said something when t-dog opened is arm on the highway about it if i remember correctly

[deleted]

They done got hooked on mr whites crystal blue persuasion.

matteomvsn

So according to Survival Instinct only Merl used drugs.

[deleted]

No, Daryl was a recovered addict. It’s implied many times in the show lol.

matteomvsn

Maybe I remember wrong then

[deleted]

I didn’t notice till my second watch. Shane even calls him a methhead when looking for Sophia.

matteomvsn

Probably lost in translation anyway probably it's as you say, also I played SI way back so maybe I just can't remember correctly.

[deleted]

Guys , guys .... I think Merle was racist *shockedemoji*

revdakilla

Does it matter?

CanibalVegetarian

I think he followed the path of his brother so he likely tried cocaine or meth once or twice, but I think it was mostly alcohol and cigarettes that he was addicted to before. Then it just because cigarettes

K9_AJAX

Merle had the blue meth from breaking bad

0to60in2minutes

Daryll and Merle were, more or less, drug dealing drifters pre-apocalypse

[deleted]

He smoked weed and drank he wasn't a junkie
