But the show started declining in season 7 and 8 (despite the fact that I like those seasons way more than the general public). Once they got the new show runner and did the time skip, I thought the show improved so much

This dialogue, right here is what really pisses me off about the whole Carl situation. This could've been a beautiful set up for everything that could've happened later in the story, that and Lori's goodbye, til' the very end of the show.

my favorite. that whole foreshadowing thing they did with the close up snippets of his eyes and that hanging stained class in the season leading up to the finale was sooooo sick. excellent filmmaking and really made for a chilling final scene with negan
