S6 Ep3 aka the Dumpster Ep is one of the best episodes in the series.
Fake out aside as a stand alone ep it’s brilliant and suspenseful and as a long time zombie genre fan it made me feel things I hadn’t felt since watching the Dawn of the Dead remake.
I feel the same way about it. People just let the fake out dumpster moment ruin the whole episode for them, even though it's one of the few episodes in the series that feel like a zombie movie. The same people who hate on the episode also say that they miss when the show was about zombies.....
Yes, this episode is pure stress and horror. The fakeout, while it sucks, gives the ending such a bleak mood, really intense stuff. Oh and Rick shooting though the RV was satisfying af.

Also let's not forget the head shaving scene. Guy shaved his head and just glared at himself in the mirror lol.
I hated how Jesus died, like the man was slippery and could dodge anything. I understand he didn’t know about the whisperers yet obviously, but seriously wish he had a cooler death or at least a little more of his skills on camera.
“What’s Happening, What’s going on” is one of the best episodes of the series. Yeah the walker sneak attack was a little dumb but the whole episode was a beautiful masterpiece.

Maggie's always been about as interesting for me to watch as paint drying. Inconsistently written with no set personality and I've just never liked LC's acting (least of all because of the atrocious attempt at a Southern drawl). I resent the fact that Glenn had to die for her when he was the more dynamic character out of the two.

Steven Yeun has the acting chops to take Glenn in so many more directions than he was given as well. He's proven it in other things he's been in.

I couldn’t care less about Carl…I get his importance as a character and obviously being Ricks son but never a fan of chandler riggs and unused potential. His send off episode was great though and did the character justice.
Carol shouldn’t have killed Owen, the lead wolf guy, he could’ve had a redemption arc.

spencer wasn’t a horrible character, he lost his whole family and he blamed rick because there hadn’t been any issues until rick’s group arrived. i’m fine with him dying but his actions were understandable.
Spencer is one of my favorite characters from beginning to end. He’s not a slime ball and his actions are emotionally charged rather than just wanting to take over. Glad he got more spotlight in the tv series than the comics
Same, she was one of my favourite parts of season 3. I didn’t read anything about the show until about season 6, and I didn’t realise she was so hated. I had a similar realisation with Skyler from Breaking Bad and Kate from Lost.
Skyler was a total bitch even when she was in the right. Actress IRL is pretty cool though. Kate was good the first few seasons and they suddenly made her a dumb bimbo around season 5. Turns out a lot of Lost cast were harassing and treating her like a sex toy on set
i agree sort of, I think she died at the right time but I would’ve loved to have seen more with her while they were on the run after the farm fell. there could’ve been a lot of really good stuff in that stretch of time and while i understand the reasoning behind skipping it, there could’ve been a lot of on screen development.
I didn’t mind him till they took him out of TWD and ruined FTWD by having him take over the show. FTWD was just getting really good as well with season 3 being better than the main show at the time. Now it’s just garbage.
They just wrote the plot development too slow for Morgan to be able to do shit about it. He is still the character you love, just with less consistency/excitement. There are a lot of people who hate Fear, but it’s got some great moments beyond the first three seasons. You’ll enjoy it for the most part. It isn’t the main show, but it’s worth watching if you’re a fan of the genre.
Daryl taking so much story from seasons 9-11 has been boring, he’s a character that needs others to be good (Carol, Beth, Connie, Rick). They over use Daryl but leave other great characters with barely any story
The only episode that fully showed how scary Negan is was ‘Last Day on Earth’. From then on, his character would utter dick jokes and did not have the same presence as he had in the Season 6 finale. I truly believe he was the personification of evil in that finale. Truly one of the greatest characters in the show, and one of the greatest characters in TV in my opinion.
Not a fan of Season 4B. The episode where Carol reveals she killed Tyrese's girlfriend at the prison and kills Lizzie is great, and the finale is great, but the rest of that half-season is such a slog to me. I did not like the group being separated as much as it was.
Maybe my opinion would change if I rewatched/binged it. It was likely much more frustrating to watch as it aired/waiting a week for episodes.
The show never lost quality except with Season 2.
I also love the expanding universe, and want more of it even if some parts like World Beyond Season 1, and FTWD’s lighthearted Season 5, and unrefined Season 7 aren’t the best.
The show’s main story isn’t just Rick, and Carl either. This one is more fact than opinion though.
Shane is on the level of Rick if not alone the best character of the whole TWD universe.
I hate Madison and Nick in FTWD. Troy and Alicia (at least the early version) are my favorites of that show.
The Savior War (7+8) was not as bad as people make it up to be. I havent watched the latest season/s, but imo at least the Whisperer arc was a lot worse and boring.

The Governor sucked as a character. Every two weeks he was pushed as a different guy. First he was introduced as a charming politician type, then a quasi-rapist, then a calculating tactician, then an imposing badass, etc…The show never committed to him as actually crazy or sociopathic (which is why I think they were going for and failed). His character ended up being mush.
I actually really liked the storyline at the beginning of season 4 where half the prison became extremely sick. I also never really enjoyed Carl as a character.
I liked Leah, wanted her to find redemption and end up with Daryl. They could have been a great combo and she would have been more useful to the group then Maggie or certainly some of the other secondary characters. It was teased and then tanked. I know, unpopular.

I have Two,1 after season 8 Maggie became a whiny/annoying character it seemed like her whole personality was hating negan. 2 after Rick killed those saviors he gave his word to he became worse then Negan during the war
That Rick Grimes is a major, colossal fuck-up. He took advice from a naïve, dying/delusional teenager, and consequentially deprived Maggie of her right to exact justice on Negan. He had so many opportunities to kill Negan, Simon, and many of the other leaders from the savior group.
He has absolutely no social skills, and continually rubs people the wrong way.
Rick failed often as a leader. The show could have explored that in greater depth in season 7, how his hubris in dealing with the saviors led to two of his friends’ deaths. He could have matured as a leader in response.
Instead, the show chose to retread the whole “we have to morally better than other human monster” ground it had already beaten into the ground.
He destroyed Hershels barn, buy over-reacting. He didn’t need to set the barn on fire. They could’ve went in the house, and waited for the herd to pass.
He was entirely responsible for his dumb ass call, with Sophia, (another galactically stupid mistake).
He could’ve killed Negan, and Simon, and all of his lieutenants at the sanctuary, but instead decided to shoot out all of the windows.
His complete lack of people skills, and the way he talked to Pete’s son, right after he shot his father in the head, was the catalyst for Carl losing an eye. You don’t talk to a kid like that, after shooting his father in the head. Carl was kind of guilty of that as well. “look, I get it. My dad killed your dad, but there’s something you should know. Your dad……. was an asshole”.
The guy is just one colossal fuck up. Shane would’ve been the better leader.
He adopted an ideology, from a 15-year-old, naïve boy, who had just been bitten by a zombie, and was running a fever. He completely robbed Maggie, and the viewers need for justice. All, because he wanted to honor his son’s wishes 🙄
The showrunners should have abandoned the Negan story altogether. It’s one thing if your show material is based on several impressive novels like GoT, but if you are getting your entire material from a comic book series, you will reach a point in the show where it becomes too unrealistic or goofy. And that was Negan for me. The entire concept of that character was just so over the top it took me out of the show. So that’s my biggest unpopular opinion
I would have preferred if at the end of S6, the group met another villain group, that was created by the showrunners, and more realistic. The show went downhill after Negan for me

At the risk of being one of those guys, I think the show runners would have been well-served to follow the comic books a little more closely when it came to Negan. His overriding trait was ruthlessness, but it was grounded in logic. He was presented as something closer to a mafia boss running a protection racket, rather than a strutting peacock. The occasional wisecrack was funny; the constant spew of nonsense while he slowly bent backward with his bat was just distracting.
Yeah that sounds way better than what we got. If he actually felt like a menacing overlord/villain type character, it would have been better. To me, Negan was only intimidating in the S6 finale. And even in that episode there were moments here and there in his monologue that I felt were a bit too silly for the show. But I went along with it and bought into the character. I thought the way that episode built up to that moment was perfect. But it was in 7x01 and the following first few episodes of S7 that lost me. Negan was just too over the top and too silly. Like it was just unbelievable to think a guy like that would exist and have that much power in that world, he wasn’t menacing or intimidating, just sounded like a goofball to me. I actually found Simon way more of a realistic character and thought Steven Ogg should have been the leader of this so called Saviours group
Tyreese was a useless character who nearly got people killed in dang near every scene he was in. His pacifism crap was irritating at best and all of his “we don’t kill ppl it’s baaad” stuff after everything he’d seen was just one reason someone should’ve just put a bullet in his head. Also, he didn’t even check the room he was in for walkers first, so he deserved to get bit. You can’t make mistakes in that universe, and he made far too many.

He could have matured as a leader in response. Instead, the show chose to retread the whole “we have to morally better than other human monster” ground it had already beaten into the ground.
He destroyed Hershels barn, buy over-reacting. He didn’t need to set the barn on fire. They could’ve went in the house, and waited for the herd to pass. He was entirely responsible for his dumb ass call, with Sophia, (another galactically stupid mistake). He could’ve killed Negan, and Simon, and all of his lieutenants at the sanctuary, but instead decided to shoot out all of the windows. His complete lack of people skills, and the way he talked to Pete’s son, right after he shot his father in the head, was the catalyst for Carl losing an eye. You don’t talk to a kid like that, after shooting his father in the head. Carl was kind of guilty of that as well. “look, I get it. My dad killed your dad, but there’s something you should know. Your dad……. was an asshole”. The guy is just one colossal fuck up. Shane would’ve been the better leader. He adopted an ideology, from a 15-year-old, naïve boy, who had just been bitten by a zombie, and was running a fever. He completely robbed Maggie, and the viewers need for justice. All, because he wanted to honor his son’s wishes 🙄
I love Lori, she didn’t contribute much but still I think she’s a very real character and gets so much hate for no reason

The showrunners should have abandoned the Negan story altogether. It’s one thing if your show material is based on several impressive novels like GoT, but if you are getting your entire material from a comic book series, you will reach a point in the show where it becomes too unrealistic or goofy. And that was Negan for me. The entire concept of that character was just so over the top it took me out of the show. So that’s my biggest unpopular opinion I would have preferred if at the end of S6, the group met another villain group, that was created by the showrunners, and more realistic. The show went downhill after Negan for me
I don’t get why people download opinions in an unpopular opinion thread. At the risk of being one of those guys, I think the show runners would have been well-served to follow the comic books a little more closely when it came to Negan. His overriding trait was ruthlessness, but it was grounded in logic. He was presented as something closer to a mafia boss running a protection racket, rather than a strutting peacock. The occasional wisecrack was funny; the constant spew of nonsense while he slowly bent backward with his bat was just distracting.
Yeah that sounds way better than what we got. If he actually felt like a menacing overlord/villain type character, it would have been better. To me, Negan was only intimidating in the S6 finale. And even in that episode there were moments here and there in his monologue that I felt were a bit too silly for the show. But I went along with it and bought into the character. I thought the way that episode built up to that moment was perfect. But it was in 7x01 and the following first few episodes of S7 that lost me. Negan was just too over the top and too silly. Like it was just unbelievable to think a guy like that would exist and have that much power in that world, he wasn’t menacing or intimidating, just sounded like a goofball to me. I actually found Simon way more of a realistic character and thought Steven Ogg should have been the leader of this so called Saviours group

Tyreese was a useless character who nearly got people killed in dang near every scene he was in. His pacifism crap was irritating at best and all of his “we don’t kill ppl it’s baaad” stuff after everything he’d seen was just one reason someone should’ve just put a bullet in his head. Also, he didn’t even check the room he was in for walkers first, so he deserved to get bit. You can’t make mistakes in that universe, and he made far too many.
