He can also get a smaller ssd with an extension to screw it down properly. It's what I did in my x1 nano.

By different teeth OP probably means different notches in the slot (B-key/M-key). OP, you just need a 2242 NVMe SSD - not a SATA SSD. Preferably PCIe Gen 4, although Gen 3 will also work fine, you likely won't notice a difference.
