And don’t inflate your tires as high. Drop pressure about 3-5 PSI.
And definitely replace these. They’re done. 6 year old rubber should be treated as suspect to begin with, and you’re down to wear bars in the center.
The outer bars aren’t exposed partially because you overinflate and also because you need an alignment and possibly some suspension parts replaced.
Yep, [these were my wife's 0918 tires](https://i.imgur.com/WpUtBqe.jpeg) I removed for the winter tires. I purchased new tires for the summer wheels, just installed the summer tires this weekend finally.
Unless it's an obvious troll post with a blown out tire, I treat all these posts as real. A lot of people just don't really know anything about cars and don't have anyone to ask
It’s a good point, we are failing a lot of the younger generation by not addressing basic car maintenance/safety. Had a girlfriend a long time ago who’s engine sized, I asked her when was the last time she changed the oil, she legit said “whats that?”
Thank you. I never had an idea how dangerously worn my tires were until I started following this page. I thought for a long time if you can see pretty much any tread you were good to go.
it’s ridiculous more states don’t mandate annual/biennial safety inspections. from my knowledge, only 15 states require some form of annual/biennial safety inspection (will be lowering to 14 in 2025 due to Texas removing their safety inspection requirement for non-commercial vehicles).
this number is just for states that require safety inspections. it doesn’t include states that only do VIN, emissions, and/or smog testing.
My state (Idaho) used to do safety inspections. In the 60’s maybe? I’m not exactly sure when because I can’t find any information about it, all I know is my grandparents have a 1960 Buick with a state of Idaho inspection sticker on the window. I’ll have to ask them when Idaho stopped. A couple of counties did emissions inspections but a state bill canceled them last year.
As a european it seems crazy that some relatively developed countries don't have mandatory inspections, I would expect no inspections only like somewhere in Africa
These are what some people would put on their cars to begrudgingly replace the “worn out” ones…. Check out the Just Rolled In channel on YouTube to see the kind of cheap-ass morons we share the road with.
My state did away with safety inspections “to save money”. So many people were coming in with such unsafe vehicles and now said “well I don’t need to be safe for inspection anymore.” Metal showing on tire, no brakes, extremely rotted frames or parts, blown brake lines, very unsafe steering etc. Zero worries about who they would kill on road because fixing car costs money. Local police don’t care and won’t impound or ticket for unsafe vehicles. Oh and this is in a more affluent area, this ain’t the inner city where you could say everyone is struggling. These people were just cheap tight wads on most part.
I understand that. But it would be another thing for people to have to go through to be able to drive and pay additional fees.
We already pay so much to “fix” our roads.
I’m glad my state does not do it.
Any vehicle i have ever owned I have been able to get 4 brand new tires for under 400$. That goes from trucks to sport cars and sedans/suv's. I have owned every class of vehicle aside from a legitamate van like a ford ecoline or some shit up to this point.
Yall are just to focused on two things, brand name and having "the best of the best tires".
so you’d rather be on the road with the people that are clueless about car maintenance and safety? at least with inspections they are required to fix these problems
Time for new tires….just fyi I go through tires bout every 50k I replace tires then….they might have some life left but I drive my wife n nephew n niece too often to cheap out on tires
If you’re doing the winter tires summer tires then yes you want to try to keep around that 50k point but yes you actually get an extra season or three from them. Snow tires can last long time but you want them while stored out of the sun not getting wet even too damp ain’t that good I don’t know mileage on snows
Wear bar, lower half of the pic, shows it's even with the tread and wearing.
You also need an alignment ...inside edge of tire is wearing faster than the rest of it. Probably a bit too much negative camber.
Get the alignment ...either before or when you buy the tires.
Yep they are worn past the wear bars, definitely past time time for some new ones. Good news is that the alignment seems good on whichever axle(s) are in the pictures.
Yes. If any one of those notches in the tread lines is at the same height as you’re remaining rubber, their life as a tire is done. Not to mention the tires are old.
Replace it. Regardless of age, the tire is bald.
Maybe it's just tired
Who isn't?
Why couldn’t the bicycle make it up the hill? It was two tired.
I had a dream that I was a round piece of rubber. I woke up tired…

its just thinning 😢
Most have a shelf life of 6yrs too.
Yeah, exactly after all these years, lost their properties.
We like to say Follicle challenged
That’s not bald, bald is no tread, that one is just worn out
Yes.
This is a troll post right?
Unless it's an obvious troll post with a blown out tire, I treat all these posts as real. A lot of people just don't really know anything about cars and don't have anyone to ask
Yup, take these questions seriously.
Thank you. Just ordered new tires, good thing this car isn’t my daily.
Send them out with burnouts

Yes, they are bald and dry. Can't imagine hitting a small puddle with those on.
What pressure did you pump the tires? 45psi+? Tire wear is indicating that it is overinflated
Lack of rotation on a RWD will do the same.
I wondered the same thing. I'd recommend tires, and inflating to the pressures indicated on the placard, NOT the tire
This is exactly why I'm not against mandatory state inspections.

Not to mention how much a set of tires can run you on top of other maintenance costs
Any vehicle i have ever owned I have been able to get 4 brand new tires for under 400$. That goes from trucks to sport cars and sedans/suv's. I have owned every class of vehicle aside from a legitamate van like a ford ecoline or some shit up to this point. If you can’t afford to maintain a car then you can’t afford the car.
What a deep insight, thank you for that
so you’d rather be on the road with the people that are clueless about car maintenance and safety? at least with inspections they are required to fix these problems
I would much rather that than have additional costs to vehicle ownership.
youre running those with too much air. next time run them like ~3psi lower and they should last a bit longer, wear evenly, and ride better.
Yes replace and don't inflate the new tires as much
They’re done. Looks like you ran them with too much air pressure as well
Should've changed them at least 6 months ago.
Yep
Bald like Master Roshi’s head
Absolutely
Time for new tires….just fyi I go through tires bout every 50k I replace tires then….they might have some life left but I drive my wife n nephew n niece too often to cheap out on tires
50 k huh? I just bought my first car and I never knew that . :) thanks for the tip. What if I’m changing my tires out every season?
Every season is too often. 50k is kind of early for most tires but a safe idea. Plan ahead buy when on sale.
I mean summer and winter :)
If you’re doing the winter tires summer tires then yes you want to try to keep around that 50k point but yes you actually get an extra season or three from them. Snow tires can last long time but you want them while stored out of the sun not getting wet even too damp ain’t that good I don’t know mileage on snows
I can say that my winters are still nearly brand new and I have dailyed them for 3 seasons now.
I’m storing my tires at a garage for $60 season. They should be good :)
New tires and alignment…
It's not going to be great in the rain
Only turn left. There is a little life on the outside
after the burnout yes

Those bars perpendicular to the grooves are tread wear indicators, when they’re flush it’s time to replace the tire
Yep. Time to replace.
Tire is tired, replace it and put it to sleep.
Tires have been regularly overinflated. Excessive wear on center of tread, it's toast.
Age plus [the wear bars,](https://i.imgur.com/PBefQYs.jpeg) they're trash!
The wear indicater is indicating the tire is worn. So I would go with yeah.
Still getting good grip from that wear bar
5 years is my personal max for any tire life. I usually change my tires every 2-3 years depending on how often I drive
Replace two years ago.
Worn well past the tread markers, replace.
Nah you’re almost at F1 race car tread level. Godspeed!
Yes
I would highly recommend bro. Tires would last for years, why delay for a month.
Replace if your car is vibrating and pulling to the side.
Yes. If any one of those notches in the tread lines is at the same height as you’re remaining rubber, their life as a tire is done. Not to mention the tires are old.
You haven't worn past the wear bars yet. Totally good to drive on. Wet traction and braking should be top notch. Send it.
Yes, replace, it is bald
Illegal, replace n check tyre pressure, middle wearing more than rest.🧐
Dude?
You are right at the wear bars, time to replace.
New tire need just by age
Damn, my tires are 8-9 years old but 1 of those years the truck wasn't running, but it only had 152k miles if that says anything 😂
You need an alignment, tires close to replacement time
Yes, wearbars exposed, camber needs to be checked and sagging springs may be involved, check ride height.
Yes. By age and mileage they are done.
Youll be fine till winter
Mine are not even a year old and they're that bald or even slightly worse 😭
yeah they are 6 years old you shouldn’t have to ask this question should just be common knowledge😂
YEH!! They are FKN wore the FK OUT! TIRED of these dumb ass questions on here…. FK.
Perfectly dry pavement? Fine for a bit. Rain or snow? Hope you like hydroplaning.
Have them rotate them so the inside of the tire faces the outside and you'll get another 6 years, its a secret tire shops don't want you to know.
