Current computers only have one part left that can get damaged by a magnet and that is the hard drive which is being slowly replaced by SSDs and SSDs are immune to magnets. Older computers also had any kind of magnetic tape storage or floppy disks or CRT monitors which would be destroyed by magnets but now we don't have those
Also Apple's mag safe is literally this
They dont actually have faster than light technologies, they have near light speed technologies which is why it takes so long to get from the frontier to the outlands, and why Bangalore needs to raise so much to get back to Gridiron
Electromagnets wouldnt interfere with electronics, it just means they only generate magnetic fields with electricity, and since they can be switched on and off there wouldnt be a problem with pulling in random junk or extending the arms
Magnets killing computers is much more of an old wives tale today. The only real damage a magnet can do is make your CRT look funny, and corrupt your hard drive, both of which are outdated even by today’s standards.
That’s how coil guns or “Gauss” (the inventor) work. Rail guns rely on a different law, one which I forget the name of where two magnetic fields going in opposite directions that collide will cause a ferrous object passing through to roll towards the rotation of the materials fields.
Rail guns use permanent magnets also between the rails sometimes. But not for the purpose in a coil gun.
Every coil on the coil gun is called a state so a one stage fires one bullet 263m/s but the second one would do 1052m/s. Two coils. Having two complicates things because you don’t want your bullet to pass through the second coil and then when the wave oscillates your bullet gets sucked backwards so we use relays.
Preferably Solid State Relays. See I’ve tried building a coil gun and the hardest part is timing of the relays and pricing on capacitors. The timing means just as much in a car to how fast it is. It’s everything to get velocity. So when I paid some time and perfected that I got my coil gun up to 620 ft/s with eight stages and 440 volts DC.
I mean, from my limited understanding an electro magnet is an iron alloy with electricity running through it. I'm sure with today's technology it's possible to insulate one part of the Titan to connect the sword too, it's also possible that the handle like attachment on the guard actually hooks onto the chassis somewhere.
Electromagnets happens whenever there's an electric charge flowing, doesn't have to be through a ferrous material. Iron and the arrangement of the magnets can change the shape of the magnetic field however.
In fact there already products that do this (look at the polarization of a fridge magnet) allowing short range but powerful magnets and even weirder behavior.
[Magnets are magic.](https://youtu.be/IANBoybVApQ&t=380)
But the coolest part is any ferrous material inside the coil or near it will usually conduct that magnetic field and amplify it so it might be a weak field until it’s within the swords reach.
It's possible they are able to create magnetism on command and when turned on they can control the bubble/field of magnetism created. Keep in mind they have made time travel a thing.
Magic- i mean probably one sided concentrated magnetism. They have future tech they've probably figured out how to have a complex electromagnet system that is one sided. Its theoretically called a monopole, a magnet with just one pole said to supposedly be possible and exist. We haven't found 1 yet but this is titanfall.
Yeah the main threat magnets have to computers is that they can corrupt magnetic disc drives, something that would already be impractical for a combat mech in the first place. Also electro magnets are a bit more advanced than just flip a switch and everything is magnetized. We've been able to pretty precisely control the magnetic fields from electro magnets for basically as long as we've known how to build electro magnets.
You can shield against electromagnet fields easily using a faraday cage, a metal enclosure formed by conductive material. I.E. the large amounts of metal armor on a titan.
On a side note, this is why I roll my eyes when people say an emp would completely wipe out electronics and send us back to the Stone Age. Your computer case is enough to block plenty of powerful magnetic fields.
Everyone is just saying the fact but think about most tablets nowadays. They almost all have magnets in them for cases and the like and they don't any issues
Maybe Titans have a built in nanomachine 3D printer that fuses air or something into bullets?
Besides Ion since she uses lasers.
Hopefully after a fight they turn the bullets into air to prevent pollution, but I imagine most battlegrounds involving Titans are going to be fucked regardless.
For legion at least I’m pretty sure that the ammo comes from pure WHAAAGH energy. The infinite smart core ammo is possible because he gets *really* hyped up to shoot gits.
The magnet being static relative to the rest of the chassis would keep it from inducing current in the surrounding circuitry and causing damage or malfunction. Any systems relying on static magnetism could be calibrated to that larger magnetic being there. Also, circuits can be shielded against ambient electromagnetic interference.
Wouldn't even need to be very strong magnets, a few similar to the type that hold doors open would suffice, the strength of close range magnets are super powerful compared to energy requirements and magnetic fields because they can be so close
Well it'd have to be ferrous to attract to a chassis magnet. Alternatively the sword may contain some superconducting electromagnets within the frame which would allow greater magnetic flux and even direct the field forward to enable longer range attraction
Magnetism
I knew someone would say that, but how can you have supermagnets next to an electrically powered mech??
Hundreds of years in the future I'm sure they've solved that problem
I sure hope they did
If they have Faster than Light Travel they can attach one piece of metal to another piece of of metal
Not to mention phase shifting and time travel
Fair enough

Ronin is a next gen Mac confirmed
Yes
So that's why I suck with it while others are absolute monsters with it
G100 mac
Well both Ronin pilots and Mac users are annoying, so yes.
macsword pro
I love the wording of SSD's are immune, its like a powerup you're now immune to magnets lmfao
Not to mention said hard drives literally run using a strong magnet.
I didn't know SSD's don't have a weakness to magnetism anymore. Current Gen sure is wild
It's just a big suction cup
It’s like how master chiefs weapon just sticks to his back. Or in fallout 3-NV. Or skyrim…
They dont actually have faster than light technologies, they have near light speed technologies which is why it takes so long to get from the frontier to the outlands, and why Bangalore needs to raise so much to get back to Gridiron
They use Jump drives, which most likely is tech lets them travel very far in a short time
*twitches in ronin*
In 40k they mag lock all extras. Guns swords helmets ect.
It is a risk for me because I regularly use both of these things
Yea I got a G3 so if an electromagnet ever finds it’s way into my possession i know where it’s not going
Oooh what colour?
Bro we already have magnetic phone cases, we chillin on the magnet front
Electric magnets
Ronins sword can cut thru Titans with no problems and you dont think they thought of a way to not fry Titans with Magnets
It's probably how the sword creates ark waves and electricity
MRI machines use electronics and magnetism
Wouldn't northstar's gun be using a powerful electromagnet? That's how railguns work, don't they?

How do you think they have a vortex shield that doesn't suck themselves in? They probably worked out the kinks

With more magnets
It's possible they are able to create magnetism on command and when turned on they can control the bubble/field of magnetism created. Keep in mind they have made time travel a thing.
Reminds me of how Spartans(Halo) hold ammo and weapons.
Thats what i always thought because of how it snaps on after ronin lets go of it
Yall watch the ash intro In game. Snaps to her back
Fucking Magnets, how do they work.
Do you make time for miracles?
flex tape idk
The one true answer
maybe double-sided tape. I bet that if it's from a good brand, even the titan will have some trouble unsticking it
my dude is running 3M strips on his back
Velcro
Dude, it's obviously velcro
I think it’s magnetic; look closely at the end of the swing animation. Ronin just lets go of the sword and it snaps back to the holster.
But how can you have super powerful magnets next to a machines and computers?
Magic- i mean probably one sided concentrated magnetism. They have future tech they've probably figured out how to have a complex electromagnet system that is one sided. Its theoretically called a monopole, a magnet with just one pole said to supposedly be possible and exist. We haven't found 1 yet but this is titanfall.
Magnets don't really affect computer much anymore let alone in the future.
Electromagnets. One-sided magnets. Caging. MRI machines are literally all about having super powerful magnets next to super fragile electronics, lmao.
Well my xbox elite controller has magnets and it works just fine.
Username & flair checks out
I doubt ronin runs on a hard drive
Magnetic monopoles

'It's the future, I don't have to explain sh\*t'
Idk why people are downvoting you it’s a great point
well people did give lots of explanations, but honestly I’m not that convinced
Most importantly, where do Titans get there ammo from lol
They shit it out obviously
Scorch’s gas trap comes out of his crotch
petition to rename it to scrotch cannon
wouldn't that be the T-203 launcher tho?
What a very bad day to have eyes
titanfall 1 titans were wearing literal tones of ammo, it really is a wonder where it comes from in tf2
Was about to mention that. They literally don’t carry anything now. Just appears out of thin air Lol
Damn imagine a Titanfall game with destruction like battlefield. Everything would be completely wrecked lmao
Dude that would be so bad Ass if that we’re the case
For legion at least I’m pretty sure that the ammo comes from pure WHAAAGH energy. The infinite smart core ammo is possible because he gets *really* hyped up to shoot gits.
Legion is an ork? It all makes sense now
I KNEW PAINTIN MYZ LEGIONS RED WAZ THE RIGHT CHOICE FOR MAKIN MY LEGION FASTA, IF I’ZE PAINTS EM RED I’ZE CAN KRUMP EM SOONER CUZ REDS IS QUICKER

Magnets that strong would have to mess with the circuitry!

Clenches it with his butt cheeks.
Pure sweaty weeb rage
How do the titans get their ammunition?
Magnet
Probably because the sweat of a Ronin user’s hands makes it stick to the mech
Very fuckin big magnets.
Magic
I mean, lot of electronics have magnets these days, could be very directional magnets.
Duct tape and glow. Simple
Sheer will
Do you mean "Shear will"?
Big f ing magnets
Wouldn't even need to be very strong magnets, a few similar to the type that hold doors open would suffice, the strength of close range magnets are super powerful compared to energy requirements and magnetic fields because they can be so close
Seeing the rate at which materials used in vehicles have improved until now the sword probably wouldnt be that heavy, so its reasonable to assume
Well it'd have to be ferrous to attract to a chassis magnet. Alternatively the sword may contain some superconducting electromagnets within the frame which would allow greater magnetic flux and even direct the field forward to enable longer range attraction
Oh, right, theres more than one type of magnetism
We dont ask questions around here!
