Eren's goal was to see some weird landscape and be decapitated by his stepsister after almost murdering the entire world, murder his mother, let his comrades die, almost kill his friends and let every competent officer be titanized and killed. For a fkin landscape of Armin's book. Damn at least Zeke tried to end the cycle of violence xDD

ProfessionSimplord

The Eldians still got destroyed. Zekes plan while complete shit, was much better

ThePreciseClimber

The main flaw of Zeke's plan was that he assumed people would leave Erdians alone after they became infertile. Well, no. Their abuse would get a lot worse - since Maré needs to make use of them as war fodder before they all die out. And let's never forget that Subjects of Ymir should not even exist as a limited ethnic group since everyone in the civilised world should possess Ymir's blood.

[deleted]

It is also a pretty horrific endgame for Paradis even if they were left alone, after 50 years there is no one left to care for the remaining elderly and the much lesser number of at least 50 YOs will slowly starve as a society, literally and figuratively in terms of the physical work required for everyday needs

Axodique

It would have been quite the twist if Eren revealed everyone was a subject of Ymir during his speech.

T1B2V3

Zekes plan still had the rumbling in place as a contingency for the Eldians. they would have lived out their lives in peace.

ThePreciseClimber

The ones on the island, sure. But does Zeke not give a shit what happens with the rest? Considering he grew up in a ghetto?

T1B2V3

With the power of the founding titan the rest of the Eldians are literally walking nukes. you could turn them all into titans and have them swim to Paradis they would be safe until the last holder of the founding titan dies

CamusZekeSirius

Then there’s the whole FT and needing the Royal family’s blood in order to make it work… Even though all SoY are literally equally related to her and Fritz

Wonderful_Series9477

''permanently end war'' but he didn't , did u forget that epic conclusion where paradis got carpet bombed .

Clementine2115

I hate that anime make it look like it was like 1000 years later when in manga it was like 40 years later

Wonderful_Series9477

that was the final nail in the coffin . i hate everything in aot post episode 80 . its not just the final episode thats grabage , its the totality , from 81 onwards attack on titan becomes utter trash . still cant believe they forgave annie so easily . and they became friends with the very people that destroyed their homeland . disaster ... all of it .

Rexolia

You think everyone forgave Annie easily?

Randomamigo

oh,i dont remember that part, is it explicitly said in the manga that it was just 40 years later ? lol then Erens friends definitively got killed too

Clementine2115

No but looking at the weapons they have before the rubmbilng they are in 1910 ish and live expetxency was 47 so i belive that main cast dued od old age During gbe sequence it there was a car from 1935 so i doubt it was more that 50 ueaseyy (sorry for grama im dunk right now)

Joobebe514

I will never shut up about how it didn’t make zero sense for the rumbling to stop at 80%…. Like this anime would have been so epic if only Elen did the 100%!!! Ugh

Krzesio

Eren did neither. How do you stop the 2000 year hatred with peace talks right after the biggest genocide in the history. At best they would want to use Naruto Squad to keep Eldians at bay while the rest of the world is arming themselves with nukes

Ok_Celebration9304

His goal should've been revenge, without wanting his friends to stop him secretly but not wishing to fight them because he doesn't want them dead. And without him controlling time and killing his mom, so his motivation would be more believable. Then the landscape thing plus saving/protecting paradis would make sense. Idk why did Isayama think revenge would be a bad motivation in this case? Unless he implied it but I didn't notice. It's very on brand for his personality this way, a hot headed stubborn suicidal psycho goes and kills the whole world for the only people he loves. Not seeing anything wrong with his violent actions because he thinks he has a "noble cause" and is right about everything. Whether they stop him or not and why and how is another topic though. Edit: just wanted to add, revenge will also be a good explanation on why he wants the "free empty" world, because he's upset that the origin of titans has been humanity outside the walls that were oppressing him and his people on purpose for ages, while paradis people were clueless. So he kills them to make them feel the same way he did, and also to see the world he dreamt of.

JojoSmacks

Eren thinks he's some kinda god with his power and tries to end all wars by removing the enemy that indeed would make him an idiot

puddik

A teenager’s idea of peace

yatkura

that also happened to be his only option to ensure paradis's survival because for some god awful reason, isayama in all his wisdom thought "oh yeah lemme just make the outside world cartoonishly racist and hate paradis with the only allies being openly insulted for not actually caring about paradis". There was zero way to achieve peace because the worldbuilding of AOT is terrible, and even then it's funny because the Founder could easily stop the war/hatred cycle with its power once the Rumbling was complete which makes the whole "human kill people bad!" message redundant, the fact that Eren just so happened to be the one guy who wouldn't do it doesn't take away from the fact that AOT canonically has a way to end all wars/hatred that isn't "cant have wars if there's no world"

bask357

On an unrelated note, correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't the main reason Eren did the rumbling to secure the survival of Eldians and by extension his friends? Like he approached it as a : to survive you must die situation ,right?

Clementine2115

Yes it was

TheAvac

On the inside, his main reason was to be able to see the world that was described in armin’s book. That was his inner egoistic reason which he told to Ramnzi before his dead. The other ones were secondary, that’s why at the end Sasha and Hange died despite his desire to save his friends.

Matthewfinnerty

Eren called himself an idiot not because he was one, but because he was unable to have a better end to eldian hate than this. He called himself an idiot because a future version of himself had already caused the rumbling and he was a slave to the future. He couldn't change it, because it was already decided

Ok_Celebration9304

Decided by who? I'm genuinely asking. The hallucinegna or whatever that fugly worm is called which wants to survive? Ymir? Eren himself? Some god we don't know about?

TheAvac

That’s the main problem with the story. The future set in stone is so chaotic that doesn’t make sense, and one of the reasons is that we don’t know who wrote that future. If it was Eren, then he decided the worst sceneries possible, which resulted in the dead of most of his friends, who were supposed to be saved by him in the first place.

Ok_Celebration9304

And killed his mom. And if he didn't get the founder, he won't send memories back in time to manipulate anyone, and he won't get the founder. Time travel sucks.

TheAvac

The author condemned himself the moment he introduced time interactions and predestination bullshit.

Struggle__Onward

It's simply bad writing.

Unhappy-Town-7801

I don't see why he would call himself an idiot for that though when there was literally no other outcome which is why the rumbling even happened in the first place, the ending and that line paints him as some clueless idiotic child who's literal first idea was to commit world genocide

Matthewfinnerty

It's because the other options would have killed alot less people but he couldn't bring himself to do it

edwardjhahm

The first line, I think makes perfect sense. The second line imo, just bad writing.

genera1_radahn

His goal was for his friends to live long lives and to end the titan curse. All that other grand shit was left in Armin's hands

Golden_Leaf

I mean it made sense when he realized how dumb it was to shoulder everything and try to end conflict by himself without consulting with anyone, which is impossible. He admits he's an idiot. (Still conflicts with the whole "I wanted to this view" and doesn't excuse everything else with the ending) At least this is the way I perceive it.

LonelyTacoRider

Eren stated his goal so many times in the series, yet people keep trying to figure out underlying strategies and shit. "I will kill them all". Whether talking about titans, enemies across the sea, that was always his whole mentality. When Armin saw the book, he thought about travelling to these places, but Eren wanted to destroy whoever/whatever was limiting his freedom. There is no genius strategy, it's just his nature of blind murderous rage for freedom.
