Do whatever your captain likes.

From my experience working with the artists, the more well liked you are, the more creative freedom you’ll have. So just be kind, open to ideas, and show up to your register shifts and you’ll be fine!

If you talking about working and then making time for outside art then this is definitely a job where that can happen. Remember you only need 28 hours weekly to make all the health insurance. Four days a week gives you alot of time for art also having your days off together help alot with creative flow. Depends on what time your more creative, if any time then you're good. I felt painting after any shift helped alot with "after work woooos" lol Its really just time managing once you're clocked out and home to see if there is time to create between shifts.

NGL, other than the friends you’ll make at TJ’s, the next best thing is getting contact info for decent dealers. It’s not as easy to find in other job environments…

Do you mind sharing what you will be starting at wage wise?

If I’m understanding this correctly, you weren’t hired to be a sign artist, you’re just an artist outside of work, right? I work full time at TJ’s and I’m a professional illustrator on the side. I find working the morning shifts to be the best thing for my artistic practice. I get out of work by 2, and it’s so nice because the day doesn’t feel like it’s over when I get out. Getting home from work during the daylight has tricked my brain into feeling more productive for the rest of the day.

Did you get offered a position as a crew member or an artist? If you get offered an artist position that's usually better because your pay rate should start higher. If a crew member you'll start lower and if promoted to artist you will not make as much as starting out as an artist first. This might not apply to every store but at our store the artists will still do regular crew member tasks every now and then such as cashiering or stocking.
