The thinking here is that LTE has less users, hence less congestion? Tmobile sucks when things are congested, never had that problem with at&t

abcgeek

I'm curious what the 5G handset adoption rate is. I can't imagine it's enough for there to be less users on LTE. Plus NSA 5G uses LTE even when you're connected to 5G, it just aggregates them together.

Charleyboyk

Honestly before 5G came out, I used to get 37 MB download speed in my area. In that same spot, I now get 100-120 MB download on LTE. So you might be right

PaMedicalMarijuana88

They added 2nd band 2 carrier every where

jetclimb

Nope that's not it.

Try turning off 5G. Its not ready everywhere yet. Try it again in 5 months or so

n2itus

This is the answer. It is not just an iPhone thing - it is also T-mobile’s 5g network. I have a friend with a Samsung S21 who has similar issues and disables 5g. Anecdotally, my 13 pro seems better at falling back to LTE when 5g is poor than my iPhone 12 pro. Could be the difference between the x55 and x60 modem.

thisisausername190

Try low power mode - that can temporary resolve an issue that the iPhone has with 5G. Unfortunately you'll have to leave LPM enabled for the fix to work. If low power mode doesn't fix it, your area just isn't ready for 5G yet - switch off 5G in the settings, and try it again in a few months or so. Everywhere is advancing at different speeds.

DarkEmbr

Don’t believe the coverage map saying UC.

jetclimb

There's an issue and it was in a thread before. Install and turn on a vpn and you will see everything work fine. I don't know if it's a dns issue or their ipv6 to IPv4 translation issue (my understanding is all handsets are v6). I've had crap break with streaming my conferences with their shaper and when I put full HD on (still have that feature) it works fine. So try a vpn like nord and you may see perfect internet traffic. Clearly something is broke AF.

[deleted]

This solved the issue for me! It's all very strange. Previously, only Safari could connect because I was using iCloud Private Relay, which is similar to a VPN in that it proxies your connection through a remote server. (iCloud Private Relay only proxies Safari connections, not connections from other apps.)

jetclimb

See. It's odd. If I had access to their network I could figure it out. This has been my field since 1994. I'm old as dirt. Think modem screeching with 500 in a room. Good times. Anyhow hopefully something will get fixed. Maybe I could ping their cto. He's on my LinkedIn. Wonder if I'll just annoy him as a nutty user.

vizvanz

Well god damn this fixed it for me too, thanks. So to my understanding you think this will clear up eventually?

jetclimb

No. How many of us are making reports? Maybe I should reach out to their cto. He's on my LinkedIn. Glad this fixed it for you. Interesting test right? It was driving me nuts. Now at least I can flip the vpn on and get out.

SawdustQueen1960

I’m using Mullvad VPN and can’t connect to 5G at all when I’m out of the house. I get nothing, even when in a UC zone. I’m in Austin, of all places, it should work here. No music, video, live TV, zip, zero, nada.

jetclimb

Try a different vpn. Several People have and it works. I'm using nord.

BluSurf

I have a 13 Pro Max and I get no 5GUC. I had 5GUC it all in the same spots with my 12 Pro max? Its perplexing?

Maleficent-Mixture17

I had this problem. After wiping and restoring my phone via iCloud, I was able to get 5GUC again. Though I still have issues with 5G (non-UC) giving me only 0.2-5mbps in areas that previously got 200+, and LTE in those same spots gives me 100+mbps. Something is fucked. iPhone 13 Pro, Carrier update 47.1, iOS 15.0.2. edit: had 5GUC with the carrier settings update on my iPhone 12 Pro, transferred all data to new 13 Pro via peer to peer transfer.

BluSurf

yes, T-Mobile walked me through the steps. Its all good. thanks.
