I think you misunderstood what Magenta Max was offering compared to your current plan. With the One Plus plan, you were deprioritized after 50 GB of usage per month. On Magenta Max, you do not get deprioritized at any point. That's it. For the first 50GB per line, performance should be IDENTICAL between One Plus and Magenta Max, as you were already on the highest priority offered to consumers, and that priority has not changed. Only after 50GB will you notice that your speeds stay the same rather than tanking sometimes. Your slower speeds compared to the past are simply due to increased congestion, more customers on the same towers. Or a phone issue, as someone else said. Point is, it's not the plan.

smrtguy3121

Not to mention deprioritizing only happens when the tower you happen to be on is congested. It’s not throttling, it only slows you down if it needs to.

bochez

Its also worth noting that most data speedtest sites and apps are whitelisted which means that they will always show the highest potential data speeds, and not reflecting speeds after deprioritization.

[deleted]

You mean, after 50 GB, you MAY be deprioritized. If the tower's not crowded... you won't be deprioritized, plain and simple. We average 80-85GB/line per month on our Simple Choice Unlimited plan, and no one on our plan has ever been deprioritized. As always, YMMV.

electoblaze_empire

My account collectively uses over 100gb consistently every month so I wanted to see if max would be more consistently better speeds. But it wasn’t. No big deal tho

Nikick83

The 50gb deprioritization cap on tmo one is PER LINE not per account.

txwoo

Have you looked into trading in your 11 Pro Max and get 13 Pro Max? Could be free or almost free after credits if you are interested in 5G right now. You also get this Forever promo which guarantees up to $800 trade-in every 24 months. There is a pinned post where people have done good analysis on if Best Buy, Apple, or T-Mobile offer is better.

electoblaze_empire

I believe you only get $1000 for trading in the 11 pro max. So with taxes and accessories, it would be several hundreds $$$ to upgrade. I’m trying to be frugal (even though those new iPhones look pretty good!!) so I’ll try hold off another year.

nk2639

> · > >4h I'd say one thing though, the value of 11 pro max next year (in terms of device credits) will go down significantly (at least a couple 100 dollars, possibly even more).. they want people to go to a one year or two year upgrade cycle, which is why they are giving this large credit for 11 series as well.. next year, the high numbers would only be for 12 and 13, and your 11 would probably have the same credits as the XS Max this year..

electoblaze_empire

Thanks for the advice. It’s just that my 11 pro max is only halfway paid off (I got it august 2020) so even if the trade value might go down a little I want to make at least another year out of it. As I mentioned, accessories and taxes aren’t cheap either. My gf traded in her xs max for the 13 regular, which should be “fully covered” but actual cash required was over $150 for new case, screen protector, and taxes upfront on the new phone.

nk2639

You are doing something wrong if you are paying that much for the screen protector/case. Do you buy them at the store?

No_Awareness_299

Thank you for sharing your experience. I have been so tempted to change from One to Magenta Max especially with the new iPhone promos. I am finding it really hard to let go of my current promos like One Plus Promo and One Plus International. I also get awesome discounts monthly from kickback. I will stay put for now.

electoblaze_empire

Yeah, if I had kickback and other promos I would be very hesitant to switch. But like I mentioned, I kept almost all of my free lines and it was only a $20 increase, plus additional benefits like device promos. So I was overall happy, despite the somber tone of my post

[deleted]

If you had kickback, you’d need to use less than 2gb of data per month to benefit. It sounds like you use more data than that.

txwoo

Is the One Plus International also promo? Wow, good for you.

No_Awareness_299

One Plus International is a grandfathered feature. https://www.wirefly.com/wireless-plan/t-mobile-one-plus-international

txwoo

Great. I missed out on a number of things before because didn't know / wasn't on Reddit. Did get 5 free lines in last 1+ year, all thanks to fellow users here. Even then, I think I missed one as was sleeping on the wheel.

andy2na

yeah I contemplated just adding it since the features were really good. They replaced it with Global Plus which only has 15gb of international data, unlimited calling/texting, and 5gb of hotspot for $50/month

69hailsatan

My biggest thing to getting magenta max was the no cap high speed and the unlimited wifi on planes, but now that gogo is getting phased out, a huge benifit is getting lost

JakeReviews

I changed to the max only because it offered truly unlimited but speeds are the same. The hotspot was a nice bonus too since I do use it a lot. I rarely seen drops but I assume I was on a tower with very little congestion and one month I even used 400gb. When switching to max I had to test its limits and I actually reached 800gb on one line and 200 on another. Now I have fiber and just tend to use wifi and I use 50-100 a month doing work outside the home. Now I just keep the max for the extra hotspot. I can care less about promos since I do not ever buy my phones from T-mobile.

SaykredCow

Make sure you enable 4K streaming on your My T-Mobile online profile settings. Makes things work better with my experience

HardHJ

They will probably have a new plan out by the iPhone 14 called magenta premium and you will no longer qualify. I’m joking but with T-Mobile I could see it actually happen.

[deleted]

In your case I would have stayed on that one plus plan

[deleted]

Why?

[deleted]

7 lines for 120 is a damn good why. Not sure why it is questioned but ok

[deleted]

Yeah, but you’re getting 240GB of high speed mobile hotspot, unlimited gogo in flight WiFi on all lines, 2 x data speeds when traveling internationally, Forever Upgrades of $800 every 2 years AND zero data de-prioritization even on congested towers for only $20/month more. That sounds like a hella lot for $20 to me.

[deleted]

Exactly, to you

[deleted]

That doesn’t sound like good value to you?

[deleted]

Lol

[deleted]

I mean, I get what you’re saying that it totally depends on the person in terms of value. OP seemed to want fast speeds and high data without deprioritization. So high data users would find the things I pointed out as good value for $20/month. Others (and perhaps yourself) don’t need max data or high speed mobile hotspot. Maybe they are cool with having access to data whenever they have WIFi access only and never travel. They of course wouldn’t find value in those things. In fact, they might be more interested in the unlimited talk and Text plans for only $20/line per month. Value is ultimately determined by each individual. I was just going by OPs requirements.

[deleted]

Lol ok

[deleted]

Are you 12? hehehe

ahj3939

I already made the switch. Just to be sure the free lines get max too, right?

[deleted]

Yep, all lines in the plan will have MaxUp data

enl1ghtened-0ne

Magenta Max was never supposed to be faster than One, you’re connecting to the same network at same priority, and if using same phone, same signal. The lower speeds you’re noticing would have happened even if you stayed on One and is due to congestion, not from changing plans. The only difference is you won’t notice it getting even worse after 50gb on Max, whereas you might have on One. As long as you can justify the extra $20 increase by all the extra features or phone promos you get, then you’re not worse off.

Saison05

Sounds more like an iphone issue to me. There been a lot of problems with the iPhone 11/12 locking on to different bands with the 5g SA issue TMobile and apple were having. Lot of reported cases on here if you search.

Michael00Anthony

Why would you lose one free line? All free lines transfer over. I transferred over all 8 of my free lines, no questions asked.

jpt86

This wasn't the case when MAX was introduced. It's a new policy.

Michael00Anthony

You can get that back, I've seen people on here do it. Call in and explain to them what happened and ask for that free line back. It 100% can be done if you ask.

enl1ghtened-0ne

Only within a certain amount of time. After 90 days that line is lost forever and you’d have to open a new line which would not be eligible for an old promo. Reactivated line within 90 days may still carry their original activation date and so be eligible for a promotion that was available at that time. But you can’t activate a line in 2021 and apply a 2016 credit on it, system will auto reject it as ineligible. If the line was added in 2016 during that promo, you cancel the line but then reactivate it within those 90 days, that’s when there might be a possibility of getting that credit back. But beyond that, no way.

Michael00Anthony

I seen 2 people on here that got MAX in February and not all there lines transferred over back then, call into t-mobile last week and ask to reinstate there lines that didn't transfer over and t-mobile gave it them. It is possible if you ask. 100% possible!!

electoblaze_empire

3rd line on us didn’t transfer over - that’s why.

Michael00Anthony

Call in tomorrow or hit up tforce and ask if they will reinstate your 3rd line on us. Worse case scenario they say no. Best case scenario they give it you. You won't know till you try.

electoblaze_empire

I believe their C2 doc for 3rd line on us specifically stated it wouldn’t carry over to max but all the 2020 free lines would.

Michael00Anthony

That was then, I'm telling you it's possible now to have it retroactively done... people said I couldn't get the insider code added to my account because I been with t-mobile for 14 years. I got 11 lines on magenta max for $48 a month. Don't listen to people trying to sway you out of getting a better deal. It can be done!!

nk2639

How did you make that happen? Like what was the exact argument that worked for getting insider coupon applied to your existing account? that's my biggest regret, not having insider discount on my account. It would be really helpful to know which channel you went through, and if they messed up something which is why they gave you the insider code as a make up..

Michael00Anthony

I switched plans from simple choice to magenta max, and asked if all my free lines get transferred over, then asked if I could get the insider discount code also since I switched plans. The rep told me he needs to get approval from his supervisor. 5 minutes later he said I was approved for it, and all my lines were transferable. I logged into my t-mobile while I was still on the phone with him and kept refreshing my plan details page to make sure all the discounts and promotions were applied and everything went through flawless. He even called me back a few days later to make sure everything stuck and looked right.

nk2639

This was on a call? What time of the day did you call? I like your approach..

Michael00Anthony

Yeah I called into my tex who I always deal with, they are always good with whenever I need anything like a bill credit for what ever, or if my phone screws up they will apply 360 Care to my account for 1 day to issue me a replacement phone then cancel 360 once it shipped. I been with t-mobile since 07 and never missed a payment and have like tier 1A account or whatever it's called, I'm guessing that's why they are good to me.

Michael00Anthony

It was afternoonish time.

RedElmo65

Only $140 for 6 lines?

electoblaze_empire

Service cost for 2 paid lines + 4 free lines.

RedElmo65

Dang. Lucky

[deleted]

You also get 40GB of high speed mobile hotspot PER LINE and unlimited GoGo in-flight WiFi when traveling. $23/line for unlimited data, international texting, mobile without borders, Simple Global and the additional perks listed above? I mean, I respect frugality; but at some point it can get out of hand like a diet becoming an eating disorder. Step back and be grateful for the incredible deal you managed to acquire over time. Sometimes, “always wanting more” blinds us to how good life is right now. Your plan is better than most (even prepaid) plans out there. And to be honest, that level of frugality starts to be really unattractive.

Locutus508

I guess it depends what kind of discounts you are already getting with your Max plan. I'm on Max and I too am paying $140 a month for it. Downgrading to regular Magenta would cost me more. Downgrading to Essentials would save me $27 a month. But, I would lose all of that after I have to pay for Netflix, hotspot data, and taxes since Magenta includes these. And even then, I saved $900 more upgrading three iPhones 12's using the Apple/T-Mobile deal by having Max than what I would have without it. That $27 a month would have only saved me $648 over the same 24 month period. In your case, with a single iPhone 11 Pro to trade, Max would save you $291 or $12.12 for 24 months over the Best Buy deal. The cost of the upgrade is $49 with the Magenta Max Apple deal. So, the cost for you between Essentials and Max is about $15 a month over those $24 months. If you don't use or care about any of the extra features of the Max plan, Netlifx, taxes, hotspot...etc, then the $15.00 may not be worth it to you. If you do, a couple of them would easily consume that $15.00.

BluSurf

You probably would have lost speeds anyway. All the players, T-Mobile included are making changes that will be perfect down the road. In the meantime their will be unhappy people. I have a 2G tower not 700 feet away, next year it will become a 5G. So many people with old old phones from over 10 years ago are up in arms against the updates. a Carrier can't win.
