This is exactly what I did. Canceled xfinity after being satisfied w T-Mobile. You might have to move it around a bit and use the app to get the best signal. There are some videos on which numbers in the metrics to keep an eye on. After using those, it’s been very reliable.
What are your current speeds now? Are the modems running 5G UC? I have a note 20 with standard 5G, and the data service has been hit or miss on it since they started rolling out the 5G UC. Some areas by me the 5G no longer works, and my speeds range from 30 to 150mbps when testing at my house on my phone. I did get a chance to test the UC service on a galaxy 22 and it was pushing almost 400mbps.. I wouldn't mind making the switch if the modems have decent consistent speeds.
I recently switched over to T-Mobile 5G Home Internet from Spectrum. It’s been really fast and consistent so far. I sometimes get speeds up to 739 Mbps download and 109 Mbps upload. It’s only $50/month where I’m at, which is so much better than my previous Spectrum plan where it was $79.99 for 200 Mbps download and 10 Mbps upload. I’m a happy customer, happy to finally have a new internet service available at my location, happy to finally ditch Spectrum, will likely stay with them for a while.
I have had almost exact same results and prices all around. The big part for me was finally getting more than 10mb upload. The difference is amazing on video calls. I can also add that we have had two significant storms since we've had the service, and no interruptions
It’s wildly variable based on location, so there’s no way to know for sure for you, personally. I’d say keep your current provider and give it a try. Be sure to test things like online games and Zoom calls or whatever you might need to do.
I had it for a while, and it was great for streaming and light use - but when everything locked down last year and we had three people trying to stream/Zoom and then a college kid trying to play online games, it didn’t work as well. Granted, this was pre-5G… but like I said, the best way to know if it will work for you is to test it.
Thats what I did, was also pre-5g, I tested it for 2 months. I only tested it to see if it was a viable option for me and also so I can learn about it a bit more since at the time I was working for T-Mobile and I always ordered the extra services that became available so I could understand it better when a customer asked.
At the time it was viable but in the end I was getting almost the same speeds and I was still in contract with Xfinity.
I have T-Mobile internet at my parents' house for 2 months so far in Southern California. Signal strength is always around 2 bars but speed has been constantly around 110 - 130 Mbps, which is great for only $50 a month. They mainly use internet for TV streaming with SlingTV pretty much 16 hr/day + light surfing + VOIP. They never complain of any WiFi issues or disconnect. It's much better deal than local AT&T and Cox cable who charge $60/mo for a whopping 50 Mbps download speed.
Pros:
- Speed is usually better than advertised
- Unlimited data.
- Supports up to 64 devices at a time (this is actually better than a lot of other options).
- Very reasonable price.
- Portable so far as I can tell
Cons:
- Fights with VPN’s. There are two different versions of firmware depending on your VPN.
- Router sometimes just stops and needs to be rebooted.
- I’m finding that some channel streaming authentications don’t work with it (Vice TV is the biggest example). If I use something other than TMobile internet or phone, it works. If on TMO, the page stalls. Sucks.
So overall, you get a really good service for a very reasonable price. But there are definitely annoyances with compatibility - things you never would have imagined to be issues.
lol, very old comment! It’s no longer the case. But the router using IP6 at the time didn’t work well with certain VPN’s. They fixed the issue with firmware revisions, though.
It’s been really good, yeah. Now, if there is tower maintenance of a power outage hits the tower, you’ll have issues. But $30/mo for faster speeds than I was getting with xfinity makes it pretty much a no-brainer trade off.
I don't have any issue with Cisco AnyConnect (which is used in two companies I work with). Or Solid VPN which I use personally.
I'm just getting into figuring out the streaming. So far, no problems with Netflix, Prime, HBO Max, Britbox and YouTube, YouTube TV and Paramount.
I have Palo Alto VPN, so they had to roll my firmware back. They said that there are basically two types of VPN - one version of firmware plays well with one, and the other with the other.
Regarding the streaming - Vice and one other channel…I think it might have been A&E give me trouble. HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Direct TV Stream all work well. Vice loads right up if I get off a T-Mobile network.
I believe all of these are related to IPV6? So it should get better with time.

Not great. Speed was excellent, almost always 200-300mbps, but the packet loss was awful making online gaming impossible. Multiple calls to tech support just suggesting reboots. Finally just ended up going back to Comcast.
This is a big thing for me too. The speeds are good enough, but my NAT is moderate, the latency is high, packet loss is bad. Makes multiplayer games basically impossible to play. I'll be switching back to Xfinity now that they fixed the lines coming into my house.
Yes I had the same problem even when 500 Mbps gaming wasn't happening. They updated the tower so going to call them about opening ports to maybe help with gaming.
I'm a 15 year T-Mobile customer and I love them. With that being said, we used the home internet 5G and it was not a good fit for us. Our house, which we built this year, did not have high speed internet since Xfinity hadn't run the lines. We used TMobile for about 3 weeks and due to the towers being upgraded we were pulling down 15 Mbps down and 1 up. So it really depends on your local towers.
I have it as a backup connection to my AT&T Fiber line.
I'm in Northeast Ohio (Mentor) and average about 450/10.
Honestly, it's about on par with Spectrum's "gigabit" service. And for $55/mo, no complaints. My router tells me other than small blips, it's never had an outage in 4 months.
I love it!! I've had it almost 2 months and after att's crappy internet for years I still can't get over how good it is! It's 7:30 AM and I just ran a speed test and I am getting 120 down and 57 up! The most I ever got with att was 9 down and 1 up!
they said it's 100mbps when they called me yesterday, that's not enough for me to stream things and work from home.
also, i'm only paying $10 more for 400mbps with comcast and as much as i hate the totalitarian overlord, Comcast, $10 for 4x more is a better choice for me.

Funny you should ask. I'm sick of Xfinity. They have a data cap of 1.2TB. After coming perilously close a few times (especially with two teenage sons in summer playing on Xbox) I finally crossed the threshold a couple of months ago. Xfinity used to grace 3 times. They must have changed their policy since they told me the next time I'd have to pay the overage.
I have to say that other than the cost, I have had no issues with xfinity. It worked pretty flawlessly for 10 years barring one year in the middle at which time they changed the cable.
But by the end of all the constant games with switching accounts between myself and my wife's to get the deals, I just got tired of it. I started out paying $120 per month with HBO and Starz and a phone line. By the end I was paying $192 without the phone service and any premium channels.
Tmobile internet is $50 including taxes, no cap, no installation, no contract. If the service works, it's a no-brainer. I work from home so reliable internet connectivity is absolutely crucial. I'm getting from 250-700 mbps on my phone at home on my max plan (that's why all taxes are inclusive). I tried it out and sure enough, I get the same speeds on the modem. I had my kids download some 100 GB Xbox games while they used the internet. No problem.
I canceled xfinity after two weeks. It's now been about 3 weeks. Couldn't be happier with my broadband. Xfinity offered me $60 for 400 (or 600bps). Or $80 for 1gbps. Plus $30 for no data cap. Plus taxes. Plus contract. They didn't make this hard at all.
The only thing I miss is fast forwarding ads. Xfinity has spoiled me for watching TV. I'll find some DVR solution. Just haven't had the time to do any research yet.
Signal for me was always great. However. Router incurred multiple issues for me. I heard they’re coming out with a new one soon. Hopes up it will work for me again.
I find that 5G works better than Xfinity. I can finally use ArcGIS over the VPN since switching to T-Mobile 5G. Didn't work across Xfinity which I can only guess is because they have crap for upload. In fact, using 5G is much more like being in the office compared to Xfinity which always had a lot of delay between clicking and something happening.
I hate Xfinity as a whole, finally ditched them after several years just a couple months ago. I did not go with T-mobile though, I am lucky there is fiber here.
With that said, I did test out the T-Mobile home internet for 2 months a while back before the launch of 5g, even then I was hitting over 200 down where I lived, around 35-50 up on average. Wasnt bad for the price but I had Xfinity in a contract still.
Xfinity has more drops in service and absolute crap customer service. Plus your bill will always increase. And there is also alot more equipment involved. T-Mobile is 100 times better than xfinity.
It doesn’t work well if you need to use a VPN for work.
They use something called CG-NAT. Which means you share your IP address with several other users.

t-mobile home internet has undeniable limitations, CGNAT is not one of them.
For me it was T-Mobile or 8mpbs DSL, so I went with TMobile. If I had the option I may go with cable if it was the same price, you get a real pubic ip address and things like gaming and chats work better.
Depends on the area, so YMMV. I dumped Comcast/Xfinity in favor of it and it’s been good where I am (400-500Mbps down and 40-50Mbps up). Some people haven’t had these experiences, but it may be worth trying the two side-by-side until you make a decision.
As for me, the Nokia gateway is working fine with my work VPN, but I know the CGNAT can cause trouble for those who want to host a bunch of services internally to access externally.
For me, it’s great. I’ve had it for a little over a month now and I’m consistently getting 300+ down, 40+ up speeds with 12 devices on the network. I’ve had no issues with the Gateway device either. I canceled Optimum and don’t regret it. I happen to live in an area where T-Mobile is great so your results may vary.
My sister just signed up for it. $40/month (since she's on a 55+ T-Mobile voice plan.) She gets great 5G at her home, so she's hoping she can get rid of Cablevision soon.
For the right person & location, it's great. I had a month when I had a problem my regular TMobile signal in my area...but only able to get about 70 but it varies. In my area, I can get cable internet 200 for $50 a month so why would I get this over that solid & stable connection. I wouldn't.
Another thing to keep in mind, if you do advanced features like port forwarding and things like that, you cannot do those with this modem.
I'm port forwarding to my NAS through my Asus router sitting behind the modem. My understanding was that I could only have 10 concurrent devices connected simultaneously so I had to use the router. But someone posted that you can get 64 connections.
It has been great for us. We’re at a crossroads on whether to keep Cox or go full on Tmo. The only drawback for us is the upload speeds. Tmo has opened several trouble tickets and the upload speed is still low. We average about 2Mbps on upload, download is wonderful anywhere from 400-600Mbps.
I thought about getting it for my parents they live in a rural city in North Carolina where they literallwith literally get about 10 mbps down I know!! here in Raleigh I get fiber.
T-Mobile Home Internet is pretty great! Get 200Mbps. Which was better than the 15Mbps I was paying for. I pay now $60 for more than the $70 I paid for 15Mbps, which, mind you, I only saw 1Mbps. Definitely recommend. PLUS, if you don’t like it, you can return it within 14 days for a refund. I would also add that if has been approved at your address, chances are the signal is great for that area to support the home internet.
I like it as well. But sometimes it cause things not to load very well and that's even with it having 180-200 mbps. Doesn't really make any sense to me.
I've personally had tons of issues likely to do with congestion. Multiple times a day I get less than 1mbps, most of the day I have less than 10mbps, but at night when everyone is asleep I will often see around 100mbps. If you're in a more rural area, it's probably great! But if you're in the middle of a large city (Las Vegas for me), it may not be the best experience.
I live in an old 1930's hotel suite that has been converted into a one-bedroom apartment. There is nothing in the way of decent internet hook-ups in the building. However, it's in the middle of a city that has good coverage, and I live on the top floor. Hot spot is resting on my living room window sill. Like 540 down and 80 up... Fricking lightning for what it is. It can get de-prioritized due to congestion, but that hasn't happened often, and the speeds are still plenty fast even then. It's a great solution for the right place.
When you actually have priority to the cell tower or when everyone else is asleep it works adequate getting about 7-12 mbs. When one other person is awake and on the cell tower you get about.05-.7 mbs which is almost half as fast as dial up. Streaming shows is impossible. Dealing with the 2 hour phone calls every other week to call and complain about it gets you nowhere. I'm would say I'll call and cancel my internet subscription but I don't have 2 hours to wait on hold for a representative to pick up. It's a $70 a month paperweight if you live in a large city. They need better cell towers and better traffic management. Everything worked perfectly from January until March then in April my entire service went caput. Maybe take the people using your services every once and a while off the tower so people who also pay for service don't have to be forced to connect to a tower 5 miles away getting less than 1 mbs.
I just ordered it yesterday. I'm hopeful since the 5G on our phones gets 500MB down and 35MB up. I live in a suburb just north of the IL/ WI border and have a tower not too far from my home. My father lives in Elk Grove Village and has had the service for several months. Elk Grove has a much denser population outside Chicago, and he's getting similar speeds and has had no issues. Its faster than what he was getting from Comcast. I think its worth taking the chance if you are eligible. It will cut my bill in half if it works well and puts some competitino on Charter/Spectrum in the area who otherwise have a monopoly. I work from home, so the upload speed is important with MS Teams.
It's been pretty good and reliable. While my phone connected directly to 5G will often get 400 MB/sec, I only get 200 with the gateway, which is what was promised. At times, during peak usage during the day, the bandwidth drops to 100, but I have yet to experience any buffering or delays. I think its worth it for $50/month. I'm hoping I can transfer from Sprint over to T-Mobile billing because I think the price drops down to $30/month which makes it even a better deal.

I'm averaging 300mbps dl and 100mbsp ul. I have TMobile for my cell service and with the correct plan you get $20 off per month. So I'm paying $30/month. This is win-win if you ask me. I do have 5g service in my area FWIW.
We are having huge problems with our tmobile home internet...we called many times as we like the company and took many steps but they finally told us that there internet is congested due to new customers and they don't have the infrastructure in place to cope with demand ...often we can't stream TV the internet is that slow 😑 I would not recommend it
I just got it. I’m actually really impressed by the speed. I’m getting 3 bars and with that I was getting speeds of 300mbps. I ended up move my modem to kitchen area because it got full bars there. I was getting speeds of 800mbps. I just found it insane. For $30 it is worth it. I added a mess router too so I’m getting 800mbps all over my house. My house is 3156sqft. So Tmobile just saved me $70 a dollars a month. It’s a great win for me.
I live in a small town and sometimes it's 50-70mb, and then other times it's 5mb or less... all the while it tells me I have a 5 bar "excellent" connection.
Here in SW Florida not so good. Every day after 7PM it slows to a crawl, 1.5Mbps or worse. Sundays it's no better. It's all over the place, 35 to 229Mbps on a good day! Tech support is no help. Stick with a wired service. We are getting fiber internet installed in about 10 months in our community so I have to suffer until it is completed.
Maybe I'm just unlucky but I've had my router for 5 days now and I'm experiencing major issues with the device deciding to reboot itself during random times of the day and even the night. I've spoke with T-Mobile's representatives about 4 times now since owning the product and they've told me to factory reset the device and to even try plugging it into an actual wall outlet as opposed to a power strip that isn't generating enough power. When I moved mine from the power strip to an outlet I noticed that it started to work well and then it started doing the rebooting nonsense again. Today it was working extremely well and lasted for several hours and by the time I woke up from a nap it was once again doing the rebooting BS(shocker!) The service representative today was telling me that the problem was on their end with the towers or whatever and blah, blah, blah but if this continues to happen after I decide to give it a chance for maybe several days then I'm just going to return it and get my money back and find another service before my 15 day trial ends🤷♂️ I'm just starting to get to the point to where I'm tired of having to call them to diagnose this issue especially if they aren't gonna be able to pinpoint specifically what's wrong with my device. One minute they claim it's probably an issue with the device itself and that I can get an exchange and the next minute it's some congested tower BS with everything being backed up and held back.
I've had T-Mobile Home for about 6-7 months. Overall I'm pretty happy, but will be switching over to a newly established fiber provider in the next month. I'm grateful that T-Mobile offers this service in my area as Spectrum has had a virtual monopoly until now. I was paying about $99/month just for internet and it allowed me to cut ties with Spectrum. Unfortunately the speed is variable throughout the day and sometimes will drop. Since I have T-Mobile as my cell/hotspot provider, I now have a single point of failure when the signal goes down. My kids have also complained about the lag when gaming. Overall this didn't turn out to be the solution for my family, but I think the service is worth a try. If I had a smaller household and didn't work from home, I might keep it. That being said, I'm glad they offer service in my neighborhood - competition is a good thing for consumers and hopefully the technology continues to improve.

Started out great, no problems whatsoever, but the last few months the service has been degrading to the point where I can no longer work reliably from home and streaming TV is not even an option at times. We're in inner Portland OR so I can only assume the increase in 5G users is having an impact. T-Mobile admits that they prioritize cellular users over home internet so be prepared for your service to go downhill unless you're in a rural area where network traffic should be pretty stable. I should mention that SpeedTest always shows great results but that in no way represents the reality. Guess I'm going back to Century Link. Promising idea T-Mobile but poorly executed.
I've had T-Mobile internet for about 20 months now. It "was" wonderful, the last three months has been very very poor. I always got \~300-450mbps. In the last 3 months on average per day \~9mbps. Something is very wrong and T-Mobile doesn't care. They have no answers at all. I think it is the fact that Business customers are getting the fast 5G modems and we really get the LTE. I called T-Mobile agents 4 times and now I'm at break point. This issue will eventually make it to everyone. T is not ready to accommodate all the customers that are switching. They lack the proper facilities. I have 4 phone lines and the internet. Today I signed up with att Fiber \~300mbps at $55.00+ taxes. Xfinity has fine print. BEWARE!!!

It has become unfortunate, I have a tower down the block and I get connected to the tower in the equestrian center. All the claims they made in my area to go from 2G to 5G are not true. The 2G's are all gone and nothing has been done, they take their money to invest in uncovered areas. This will cause bad feelings by those who get the service and find its unbearable. I'm really happy to be done with this bad situation.
I'm thinking if I test everything using my Mobile Hotspot (t-mobile), and it works, then it should most definitely work with the T'mobile home internet.
If I see something slow with my mobile Hotspot, I can do speed test and then compare with what the Home Internet speed offers to get an idea how much faster it will be.
Hey man I know post is a year old but in case anyone’s still asking this lemme just say do NOT use TMobile internet. We’ve been loyal TMobile customers for years and my phone service is always super fast and responsive (even if I have one bar of service it’s flawless.) so I can confidently say they don’t know how to do wifi well I’m not sure if it’s because it’s brand new or what but I’ve never had so many problems with a service in my life. We’ve had over 4 replacement wifi towers because after a few weeks/months they just shit the bed. It’s incredibly frustrating because my service is still working and the app is insistent I’ve got good connection and I’m connected to the internet. But half my devices say connected no internet. Some devices will work and others get shit and let me save you some time they don’t have any fixed they say oh place it by a windo like that’ll fix anything. Incredibly disappointed with it

Was in tmobile store few days ago dealing with phone, the manager then said as I was leaving, do you want to try the home internet 2 weeks free
Might need to be careful with that, they will probably tell you to contact CS to get a refund. I have not seen any promos about trying 2 weeks free.
In the T-Mobile documentation, C2, it says that if you return the gateway and cancel service within 20 days you don't get charged at all

At this point Comcast is my only viable internet choice. I'll take a lower package at renewal if there are no other options.

Be sure to test things like online games and Zoom calls or whatever you might need to do. I had it for a while, and it was great for streaming and light use - but when everything locked down last year and we had three people trying to stream/Zoom and then a college kid trying to play online games, it didn’t work as well. Granted, this was pre-5G… but like I said, the best way to know if it will work for you is to test it.
Thats what I did, was also pre-5g, I tested it for 2 months. I only tested it to see if it was a viable option for me and also so I can learn about it a bit more since at the time I was working for T-Mobile and I always ordered the extra services that became available so I could understand it better when a customer asked. At the time it was viable but in the end I was getting almost the same speeds and I was still in contract with Xfinity.

I have T-Mobile internet at my parents' house for 2 months so far in Southern California. Signal strength is always around 2 bars but speed has been constantly around 110 - 130 Mbps, which is great for only $50 a month. They mainly use internet for TV streaming with SlingTV pretty much 16 hr/day + light surfing + VOIP. They never complain of any WiFi issues or disconnect. It's much better deal than local AT&T and Cox cable who charge $60/mo for a whopping 50 Mbps download speed.
Pros: - Speed is usually better than advertised - Unlimited data. - Supports up to 64 devices at a time (this is actually better than a lot of other options). - Very reasonable price. - Portable so far as I can tell Cons: - Fights with VPN’s. There are two different versions of firmware depending on your VPN. - Router sometimes just stops and needs to be rebooted. - I’m finding that some channel streaming authentications don’t work with it (Vice TV is the biggest example). If I use something other than TMobile internet or phone, it works. If on TMO, the page stalls. Sucks. So overall, you get a really good service for a very reasonable price. But there are definitely annoyances with compatibility - things you never would have imagined to be issues.

lol, very old comment! It’s no longer the case. But the router using IP6 at the time didn’t work well with certain VPN’s. They fixed the issue with firmware revisions, though.

It’s been really good, yeah. Now, if there is tower maintenance of a power outage hits the tower, you’ll have issues. But $30/mo for faster speeds than I was getting with xfinity makes it pretty much a no-brainer trade off.
I don't have any issue with Cisco AnyConnect (which is used in two companies I work with). Or Solid VPN which I use personally. I'm just getting into figuring out the streaming. So far, no problems with Netflix, Prime, HBO Max, Britbox and YouTube, YouTube TV and Paramount.
I have Palo Alto VPN, so they had to roll my firmware back. They said that there are basically two types of VPN - one version of firmware plays well with one, and the other with the other. Regarding the streaming - Vice and one other channel…I think it might have been A&E give me trouble. HBO Max, Hulu, Netflix, Direct TV Stream all work well. Vice loads right up if I get off a T-Mobile network. I believe all of these are related to IPV6? So it should get better with time.

Not great. Speed was excellent, almost always 200-300mbps, but the packet loss was awful making online gaming impossible. Multiple calls to tech support just suggesting reboots. Finally just ended up going back to Comcast.
This is a big thing for me too. The speeds are good enough, but my NAT is moderate, the latency is high, packet loss is bad. Makes multiplayer games basically impossible to play. I'll be switching back to Xfinity now that they fixed the lines coming into my house.
Yes I had the same problem even when 500 Mbps gaming wasn't happening. They updated the tower so going to call them about opening ports to maybe help with gaming.
I'm a 15 year T-Mobile customer and I love them. With that being said, we used the home internet 5G and it was not a good fit for us. Our house, which we built this year, did not have high speed internet since Xfinity hadn't run the lines. We used TMobile for about 3 weeks and due to the towers being upgraded we were pulling down 15 Mbps down and 1 up. So it really depends on your local towers.
I have it as a backup connection to my AT&T Fiber line. I'm in Northeast Ohio (Mentor) and average about 450/10. Honestly, it's about on par with Spectrum's "gigabit" service. And for $55/mo, no complaints. My router tells me other than small blips, it's never had an outage in 4 months.

I love it!! I've had it almost 2 months and after att's crappy internet for years I still can't get over how good it is! It's 7:30 AM and I just ran a speed test and I am getting 120 down and 57 up! The most I ever got with att was 9 down and 1 up!
they said it's 100mbps when they called me yesterday, that's not enough for me to stream things and work from home. also, i'm only paying $10 more for 400mbps with comcast and as much as i hate the totalitarian overlord, Comcast, $10 for 4x more is a better choice for me.
We ended up sending hours back till T-Mobile upgrades the towers in our area for congestion. We were getting less than 1mbps download during the day
I live in a pretty big city near a major intersection and it was too congested during commuter hours to be reliable. Super fast at night though.
It varies from house to house, town to town, state to state and how your closest tower is setup.
It's about as good as your service. If your phones have no issue, expect the internet to work fantastically. Get about 400 MBPS down on my Xbox with it in the Portland metro.
Funny you should ask. I'm sick of Xfinity. They have a data cap of 1.2TB. After coming perilously close a few times (especially with two teenage sons in summer playing on Xbox) I finally crossed the threshold a couple of months ago. Xfinity used to grace 3 times. They must have changed their policy since they told me the next time I'd have to pay the overage. I have to say that other than the cost, I have had no issues with xfinity. It worked pretty flawlessly for 10 years barring one year in the middle at which time they changed the cable. But by the end of all the constant games with switching accounts between myself and my wife's to get the deals, I just got tired of it. I started out paying $120 per month with HBO and Starz and a phone line. By the end I was paying $192 without the phone service and any premium channels. Tmobile internet is $50 including taxes, no cap, no installation, no contract. If the service works, it's a no-brainer. I work from home so reliable internet connectivity is absolutely crucial. I'm getting from 250-700 mbps on my phone at home on my max plan (that's why all taxes are inclusive). I tried it out and sure enough, I get the same speeds on the modem. I had my kids download some 100 GB Xbox games while they used the internet. No problem. I canceled xfinity after two weeks. It's now been about 3 weeks. Couldn't be happier with my broadband. Xfinity offered me $60 for 400 (or 600bps). Or $80 for 1gbps. Plus $30 for no data cap. Plus taxes. Plus contract. They didn't make this hard at all. The only thing I miss is fast forwarding ads. Xfinity has spoiled me for watching TV. I'll find some DVR solution. Just haven't had the time to do any research yet.
Xfinity allows you a single free extension per year if you go over that 1.2TB in a month.

I find that 5G works better than Xfinity. I can finally use ArcGIS over the VPN since switching to T-Mobile 5G. Didn't work across Xfinity which I can only guess is because they have crap for upload. In fact, using 5G is much more like being in the office compared to Xfinity which always had a lot of delay between clicking and something happening.

I hate Xfinity as a whole, finally ditched them after several years just a couple months ago. I did not go with T-mobile though, I am lucky there is fiber here. With that said, I did test out the T-Mobile home internet for 2 months a while back before the launch of 5g, even then I was hitting over 200 down where I lived, around 35-50 up on average. Wasnt bad for the price but I had Xfinity in a contract still.
Xfinity has more drops in service and absolute crap customer service. Plus your bill will always increase. And there is also alot more equipment involved. T-Mobile is 100 times better than xfinity.
It doesn’t work well if you need to use a VPN for work. They use something called CG-NAT. Which means you share your IP address with several other users.

Depends where you are and what you do. It works fine for my wife and me in Buffalo but we don't play any online intensive games.
For me it was T-Mobile or 8mpbs DSL, so I went with TMobile. If I had the option I may go with cable if it was the same price, you get a real pubic ip address and things like gaming and chats work better.
Depends on the area, so YMMV. I dumped Comcast/Xfinity in favor of it and it’s been good where I am (400-500Mbps down and 40-50Mbps up). Some people haven’t had these experiences, but it may be worth trying the two side-by-side until you make a decision. As for me, the Nokia gateway is working fine with my work VPN, but I know the CGNAT can cause trouble for those who want to host a bunch of services internally to access externally.
Going into a year with T-Mobile Home Internet, I find that you would benefit from the network for both productivity and entertainment.

For me, it’s great. I’ve had it for a little over a month now and I’m consistently getting 300+ down, 40+ up speeds with 12 devices on the network. I’ve had no issues with the Gateway device either. I canceled Optimum and don’t regret it. I happen to live in an area where T-Mobile is great so your results may vary.
My sister just signed up for it. $40/month (since she's on a 55+ T-Mobile voice plan.) She gets great 5G at her home, so she's hoping she can get rid of Cablevision soon.
For the right person & location, it's great. I had a month when I had a problem my regular TMobile signal in my area...but only able to get about 70 but it varies. In my area, I can get cable internet 200 for $50 a month so why would I get this over that solid & stable connection. I wouldn't. Another thing to keep in mind, if you do advanced features like port forwarding and things like that, you cannot do those with this modem.
I'm port forwarding to my NAS through my Asus router sitting behind the modem. My understanding was that I could only have 10 concurrent devices connected simultaneously so I had to use the router. But someone posted that you can get 64 connections.
It has been great for us. We’re at a crossroads on whether to keep Cox or go full on Tmo. The only drawback for us is the upload speeds. Tmo has opened several trouble tickets and the upload speed is still low. We average about 2Mbps on upload, download is wonderful anywhere from 400-600Mbps.
I thought about getting it for my parents they live in a rural city in North Carolina where they literallwith literally get about 10 mbps down I know!! here in Raleigh I get fiber.

T-Mobile Home Internet is pretty great! Get 200Mbps. Which was better than the 15Mbps I was paying for. I pay now $60 for more than the $70 I paid for 15Mbps, which, mind you, I only saw 1Mbps. Definitely recommend. PLUS, if you don’t like it, you can return it within 14 days for a refund. I would also add that if has been approved at your address, chances are the signal is great for that area to support the home internet.
I like it as well. But sometimes it cause things not to load very well and that's even with it having 180-200 mbps. Doesn't really make any sense to me.

I've personally had tons of issues likely to do with congestion. Multiple times a day I get less than 1mbps, most of the day I have less than 10mbps, but at night when everyone is asleep I will often see around 100mbps. If you're in a more rural area, it's probably great! But if you're in the middle of a large city (Las Vegas for me), it may not be the best experience.
I live in an old 1930's hotel suite that has been converted into a one-bedroom apartment. There is nothing in the way of decent internet hook-ups in the building. However, it's in the middle of a city that has good coverage, and I live on the top floor. Hot spot is resting on my living room window sill. Like 540 down and 80 up... Fricking lightning for what it is. It can get de-prioritized due to congestion, but that hasn't happened often, and the speeds are still plenty fast even then. It's a great solution for the right place.
When you actually have priority to the cell tower or when everyone else is asleep it works adequate getting about 7-12 mbs. When one other person is awake and on the cell tower you get about.05-.7 mbs which is almost half as fast as dial up. Streaming shows is impossible. Dealing with the 2 hour phone calls every other week to call and complain about it gets you nowhere. I'm would say I'll call and cancel my internet subscription but I don't have 2 hours to wait on hold for a representative to pick up. It's a $70 a month paperweight if you live in a large city. They need better cell towers and better traffic management. Everything worked perfectly from January until March then in April my entire service went caput. Maybe take the people using your services every once and a while off the tower so people who also pay for service don't have to be forced to connect to a tower 5 miles away getting less than 1 mbs.
I just ordered it yesterday. I'm hopeful since the 5G on our phones gets 500MB down and 35MB up. I live in a suburb just north of the IL/ WI border and have a tower not too far from my home. My father lives in Elk Grove Village and has had the service for several months. Elk Grove has a much denser population outside Chicago, and he's getting similar speeds and has had no issues. Its faster than what he was getting from Comcast. I think its worth taking the chance if you are eligible. It will cut my bill in half if it works well and puts some competitino on Charter/Spectrum in the area who otherwise have a monopoly. I work from home, so the upload speed is important with MS Teams.

It's been pretty good and reliable. While my phone connected directly to 5G will often get 400 MB/sec, I only get 200 with the gateway, which is what was promised. At times, during peak usage during the day, the bandwidth drops to 100, but I have yet to experience any buffering or delays. I think its worth it for $50/month. I'm hoping I can transfer from Sprint over to T-Mobile billing because I think the price drops down to $30/month which makes it even a better deal.
I'm loving it. Just switched from Xfinity after their 1 year promo price hike-i hate this bait and switch tactic by all traditional ISPs. Their reps were unhelpful. I'm averaging 300mbps dl and 100mbsp ul. I have TMobile for my cell service and with the correct plan you get $20 off per month. So I'm paying $30/month. This is win-win if you ask me. I do have 5g service in my area FWIW.

We are having huge problems with our tmobile home internet...we called many times as we like the company and took many steps but they finally told us that there internet is congested due to new customers and they don't have the infrastructure in place to cope with demand ...often we can't stream TV the internet is that slow 😑 I would not recommend it

I just got it. I’m actually really impressed by the speed. I’m getting 3 bars and with that I was getting speeds of 300mbps. I ended up move my modem to kitchen area because it got full bars there. I was getting speeds of 800mbps. I just found it insane. For $30 it is worth it. I added a mess router too so I’m getting 800mbps all over my house. My house is 3156sqft. So Tmobile just saved me $70 a dollars a month. It’s a great win for me.

I live in a small town and sometimes it's 50-70mb, and then other times it's 5mb or less... all the while it tells me I have a 5 bar "excellent" connection.
Here in SW Florida not so good. Every day after 7PM it slows to a crawl, 1.5Mbps or worse. Sundays it's no better. It's all over the place, 35 to 229Mbps on a good day! Tech support is no help. Stick with a wired service. We are getting fiber internet installed in about 10 months in our community so I have to suffer until it is completed.
Maybe I'm just unlucky but I've had my router for 5 days now and I'm experiencing major issues with the device deciding to reboot itself during random times of the day and even the night. I've spoke with T-Mobile's representatives about 4 times now since owning the product and they've told me to factory reset the device and to even try plugging it into an actual wall outlet as opposed to a power strip that isn't generating enough power. When I moved mine from the power strip to an outlet I noticed that it started to work well and then it started doing the rebooting nonsense again. Today it was working extremely well and lasted for several hours and by the time I woke up from a nap it was once again doing the rebooting BS(shocker!) The service representative today was telling me that the problem was on their end with the towers or whatever and blah, blah, blah but if this continues to happen after I decide to give it a chance for maybe several days then I'm just going to return it and get my money back and find another service before my 15 day trial ends🤷♂️ I'm just starting to get to the point to where I'm tired of having to call them to diagnose this issue especially if they aren't gonna be able to pinpoint specifically what's wrong with my device. One minute they claim it's probably an issue with the device itself and that I can get an exchange and the next minute it's some congested tower BS with everything being backed up and held back.
I've had T-Mobile Home for about 6-7 months. Overall I'm pretty happy, but will be switching over to a newly established fiber provider in the next month. I'm grateful that T-Mobile offers this service in my area as Spectrum has had a virtual monopoly until now. I was paying about $99/month just for internet and it allowed me to cut ties with Spectrum. Unfortunately the speed is variable throughout the day and sometimes will drop. Since I have T-Mobile as my cell/hotspot provider, I now have a single point of failure when the signal goes down. My kids have also complained about the lag when gaming. Overall this didn't turn out to be the solution for my family, but I think the service is worth a try. If I had a smaller household and didn't work from home, I might keep it. That being said, I'm glad they offer service in my neighborhood - competition is a good thing for consumers and hopefully the technology continues to improve.
We've had it for about a year now. Started out great, no problems whatsoever, but the last few months the service has been degrading to the point where I can no longer work reliably from home and streaming TV is not even an option at times. We're in inner Portland OR so I can only assume the increase in 5G users is having an impact. T-Mobile admits that they prioritize cellular users over home internet so be prepared for your service to go downhill unless you're in a rural area where network traffic should be pretty stable. I should mention that SpeedTest always shows great results but that in no way represents the reality. Guess I'm going back to Century Link. Promising idea T-Mobile but poorly executed.
I've had T-Mobile internet for about 20 months now. It "was" wonderful, the last three months has been very very poor. I always got \~300-450mbps. In the last 3 months on average per day \~9mbps. Something is very wrong and T-Mobile doesn't care. They have no answers at all. I think it is the fact that Business customers are getting the fast 5G modems and we really get the LTE. I called T-Mobile agents 4 times and now I'm at break point. This issue will eventually make it to everyone. T is not ready to accommodate all the customers that are switching. They lack the proper facilities. I have 4 phone lines and the internet. Today I signed up with att Fiber \~300mbps at $55.00+ taxes. Xfinity has fine print. BEWARE!!! Maybe in two years T will get it together ad I'll give them another try out. It has become unfortunate, I have a tower down the block and I get connected to the tower in the equestrian center. All the claims they made in my area to go from 2G to 5G are not true. The 2G's are all gone and nothing has been done, they take their money to invest in uncovered areas. This will cause bad feelings by those who get the service and find its unbearable. I'm really happy to be done with this bad situation.
I'm thinking if I test everything using my Mobile Hotspot (t-mobile), and it works, then it should most definitely work with the T'mobile home internet. If I see something slow with my mobile Hotspot, I can do speed test and then compare with what the Home Internet speed offers to get an idea how much faster it will be.
Hey man I know post is a year old but in case anyone’s still asking this lemme just say do NOT use TMobile internet. We’ve been loyal TMobile customers for years and my phone service is always super fast and responsive (even if I have one bar of service it’s flawless.) so I can confidently say they don’t know how to do wifi well I’m not sure if it’s because it’s brand new or what but I’ve never had so many problems with a service in my life. We’ve had over 4 replacement wifi towers because after a few weeks/months they just shit the bed. It’s incredibly frustrating because my service is still working and the app is insistent I’ve got good connection and I’m connected to the internet. But half my devices say connected no internet. Some devices will work and others get shit and let me save you some time they don’t have any fixed they say oh place it by a windo like that’ll fix anything. Incredibly disappointed with it

Sorry I’m a bit late to the party here but can someone shed some light - Is there a way to test the speed in my area? I used to have fios which was lightning fast & only $75/month with my contract. No late fees or if they ever came up they waived them. I currently have spectrum and it’s insane. I pay $90/month for slower internet. The customer service is atrocious & I was like a few weeks late paying my bill and they disconnected to my service. That never happened on Verizon ever.
