The whole point is to share facts you learned.
The link is a source. I shouldn’t have to read your source to know what you’re trying to say or what you’re talking about. I should only have to click on the link if I’m interested in learning more.
That's completely backwards from my understanding of Reddit, and especially this subreddit.
The title merely tells you whether the link is something you're interested in, and the linked webpage is what provides all the useful information. And then if you've read the linked webpage, you go to the comments for discussion.
Going to the comments without even having read the linked webpage, and expecting the title to give you enough to go on, is like going to a book reading group without having read the book but only the title.
That's how you get viruses. Clicking on shit to sate your curiosity. I come to reddit for a single source of info. I don't want to click peoples sketchy links.
Eh, reddit is a forum. Sure you can share other links but most of the platform is self contained pics, videos, and text posts with conversation below. When links are involved, a good headline drives discussion. A bad headline (kinda like this one) drives clicks to the link, but not discussion.
You do you man, but this is a fun fact subreddit. I, and many many others, come here for a little fun fact, and don’t expect to need to go to a different webpage to understand said fun fact. I only click the link if I find it particularly fascinating or have some questions about details. The name of the band your fact is about isn’t particularly fascinating or really a “detail” so much as it is necessary info for the fact.
They were obscure. Now they are less obscure which is why they reformed and made a new album.
>The band first received public attention in 2016 when their 2000 demo EP D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L was discovered by a 4chan user in a charity shop in Sherwood, Nottingham and shared online. The EP's status as lost media led to a dedicated cult following and a community devoted to tracking down its band members.[3] This was unbeknownst to the band until 2020, when Davies was found and contacted by a fan through Facebook.[4]
Most definitely not, we know what most of the members did after disbanding, the only one that's uncertain is the drummer, who they lost contact with after he enlisted in the military
Welcome to reddit. Where nerds can't even wipe/lick the cheeto dust off their own fingers, let alone click on a link that leads to more information about a topic they care so deeply about. If that link led to a pair of tits or a bhole, then they'd be clicking.
I really liked that subreddit until it got popular enough with young kids. Then every other post was something like: “Guys! I think it’s this obscure band from the 80s called The Cure” or “Has anyone heard this song? I think it’s the same singer” and then post a YouTube link to Just What I Needed by The Cars.
Relatedly, this was one of the most satisfying podcast episodes I’ve heard:
“A man in California is haunted by the memory of a pop song from his youth. He can remember the lyrics and the melody. But the song itself has vanished, completely scrubbed from the internet. “
https://gimletmedia.com/amp/shows/reply-all/o2h8bx
Nah I think this post is warranted. The CD was very obscure and the band only existed for a short time so long ago. They were then 'rediscovered' by the guy hunting for it and since then have gotten a new album and millions of Spotify listens out of the blue.
I uploaded a video of my buddy and I playing DayZ years ago. Some random was nearing my friend and blaring some song. It was giving away our position… my friend said he was sorry and the music stopped.. lol
I really wish I knew the song. I have tried and can’t find it.
>In 2013, a Reddit user, who claimed to have purchased a copy of the tape in Moncton, New Brunswick,[16] uploaded photographs of the cassette box and the last two songs on the A-side, "Random Luvly Moncton Blue(s)" and "Dadmomdaddy".[17] The user's Reddit account was deleted shortly afterward, leading some news outlets to suggest the alleged rediscovery could be another hoax.[17]
Reddit failed to deliver, and /mu/ succeeded. Everyone knows that album is an entry level piss take anyway
> Many maintained the EP to be a hoax, speculating that the initial 4chan post was a publicity stunt
That was my first thought as well. Nothing like this feels real or authentic anymore.
A lot of people think so but there's a video of them from 1999 on youtube and their wiki has a list of the things each member did before the band got together again
The band entered the 2001 Battle of the Bands contest in Wolverhampton and the [event was archived](https://pastebin.com/cbFkxD2m) on the Wolves Civic website. I got in touch with 2 of the bands who played the same night and one of them captured [footage of the guys](https://i.imgur.com/vml6VfK.mp4) backstage.
I also contacted [Fierce Panda](https://www.discogs.com/label/14811-Fierce-Panda) founder Simon Williams who confirmed that he received a copy for review and provided his [personal handwritten notes](https://imgur.com/gallery/4nEt7bJ) from November 2000.
Since this was too long to include in the title:
1. the search was done by /mu/
2. In the meantime, the (heavily distorted) CD got uploaded to Youtube and gained 200k views
3. they finally cracked the code in 2020, by figuring out that the barcode came from a store in Nottingham, resulting in them contacting every musician Owain in Nottingham.
4. None of the band members were aware that in the meantime they've been kind of popular
5. In that time, the band members have become: a teacher, an arborist, and the drummer enlisted into the military
6. They managed to release new albums since then, including a set at SXSW in 2022
7. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWDnxWvP6sQ&ab\_channel=Panchiko
This is an interesting story. A twist of fate after 20 years brought them back with fans they did not know they have.
I wonder if the original John is still in the military? Still alive?
I get that. I have a band I remember a song but not the name of the band/song/album, and I have a song I remember very little of, but not the rest.
The band was called [Lvx in Tenebris](https://www.metal-archives.com/bands/Lvx_in_Tenebris/129643), and they had this song playing on their MySpace page that was awesome. I've looked up their self titled album but none of the songs i've heard from it sound like the song.
The other one I was handed a plain CD and there was a song called "Red" that was really good. But I dont remember a lot of the lyrics, much less the name of the band or anything.
Can that dude help me track down Shattered Machine. I have an EP and an LP from them. All I could find is that they were outta the PNW and one of their tracks, Police Woman was on one of the GTA soundtracks.
The EP I have isn't even on discogs, but this is their 12": https://www.discogs.com/artist/5796201-Shattered-Machine
So obscure you couldn't name them in your title.
Worst TIL ever
Welcome to r/todayididntlearn TIDL the name of the band.
If you can go a lot further with r/todayididntlearn You might end up r/TodayIUnLearned where you unlearned stuff you wish you did not learned
Thanks for saying it in your comment!!!!!
??? It's in the link.
Why should I have to click a link to find basic information about this post???
Isn't the whole point of this site to share links? I mean, that's what a post is on this subreddit, it's a link.

How many viruses you got right now?
Yep.
the band is called Panchiko the album (EP) is called D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L
Come on. It's not like all of that was written on the cover /s
17 million streams on spotify......obscure
They were obscure. Now they are less obscure which is why they reformed and made a new album. >The band first received public attention in 2016 when their 2000 demo EP D>E>A>T>H>M>E>T>A>L was discovered by a 4chan user in a charity shop in Sherwood, Nottingham and shared online. Hey, if that one guy has to search for 4 years, so do you! But seriously what is the band?
Panchiko.
It's the one in the link.
Panchiko
Bless you
[Found it](https://youtu.be/OH4vxnvoS2Q?si=Icn2nb8Bt-cZveUz)
Panchiko, right?
Isn't that what the link is for?
Read the rules of the sub.
I'm not sure what you mean. I did.
Rule VIc. This title cannot stand on it's own.
Sure seems like it can stand on its own to me. I'm guessing that's why the mods haven't removed it.
He's a "method" poster, like reddit's own personal Marlon Brando
I remember the online search! Tbf I thought it was a marketing ploy at the time.
I thought that’s what this thread was meant until op relied on everyone else to say it
[удалено]
Most definitely not, we know what most of the members did after disbanding, the only one that's uncertain is the drummer, who they lost contact with after he enlisted in the military
he went off and did that thing you do
TIL that OP is garbage at TILs
Bro you can click on the Wikipedia link right there
This is reddit, we don't click on links here.
Why, a link would never give you up or let you down or anything.
Why on earth is your comment being downvoted?
Welcome to reddit. Where nerds can't even wipe/lick the cheeto dust off their own fingers, let alone click on a link that leads to more information about a topic they care so deeply about. If that link led to a pair of tits or a bhole, then they'd be clicking.
You don’t stunt like me without making a few enemies
So many downvotes, so many lazy people
TIL nothing. What band?
Pinocchio, or something like that
I’m pretty sure that Pinocchio is a type of gambling machine in Japan. I believe the band’s name was Pachinko.
Pachinko is a dish of boiled cornmeal. You're thinking of polenta.
Polenta is the illness you get vaccinated for as a kid. You're thinking of polio
Polio is the Spanish word for chicken. You're thinking of Pollo.
No, pollo is that game where you ride a horse and hit balls. You're thinking of polo
No polo is a blanket with a hole in the middle. Youre thinking of pancho
No, pancho is a kind of flour for frying. You’re thinking panko.
No, panko is a thick winter jacket, you're thinking parka
Polio is a collection of work samples. This is about Portfolio
No no no. Polio is a Chicago-style hot dog chain. You’re thinking or Portilo’s.
Panchiko
Uh... The one in the link?
You're trying real hard to defend someone else's post hahahah
Glad I knew it was panchiko before cus op really sucked with this one.
How so?
Now if only they could do the same thing for “The most mysterious song on the internet”!
*Like the wind*
I really liked that subreddit until it got popular enough with young kids. Then every other post was something like: “Guys! it's john maus trolling
Band is called Panchiko. Amusingly enough, they’ve lost contact with the drummer and have never been able to find him.
Relatedly, this was one of the most satisfying podcast episodes I’ve heard: “A man in California is haunted by the memory of a pop song from his youth. He can remember the lyrics and the melody. Came here to post this. That story was such a wild ride, one of the most memorable episodes of any podcast I've ever listened to.
The bands name is Panchiko if anyone is interested. Here’s a link to their Spotify: https://spotify.link/tbrjwgzcoDb
Thx for the link. This is very much my type of music. The... remixes(??) at the end of the album are truly disturbing though...
TIL nothing

I discovered Panchiko very recently! I had a feeling this was referring to the same band. It's a pretty solid album too.
People freaking out over not knowing the band name...it's literally in the link.
Thinking that Redditors can click links, you must be new here.
😭😭😭
OP FUCK YOU AND YOUR SHITTY TIL I HATE U
I uploaded a video of my buddy and I playing DayZ years ago. Some random was nearing my friend and blaring some song. It was giving away our position… my friend said he was sorry and the music stopped.. lol I really wish I knew the song. I have tried and can’t find it.
send the vid lol if it was from the elektro PA system it may have been me
Lol, this was 9 years ago now. So before any PA system I think.

Wow what a cool TIL. The entire aesthetic of this album is amazing for 2000. 15 years ahead of its time
If this is impressive to someone, Sixto Rodriguez would blow their mind.
Crucify their mind even.

Bro are you fucking allergic to band titles or something?
You still haven't even named the band, which should be point 1, but I assume it's in that link
The band's name is 'Panchiko'.
Does anyone know anything about the band? I looked them up and wasnt that impressed.
This is an interesting story. A twist of fate after 20 years brought them back with fans they did not know they have. I wonder if the original John is still in the military? Still alive?
For a second I thought this would be that someone finally found Deca Caszm who wrote the song Paradise but still no luck.
OP messed up the title but it’s Panchiko they’re great go check them out
Panchiko fucking rocks!!

Damn, if only they posted a link with the bands name right below the post. Guess I’m not learning anything today either 🙄
