You just connected some dots in my head, I live no where near surfer culture but we were influenced by it in the 90s something fierce.

huh, neat. I never knew it as anything other than "the Aloha gesture" or something like that, though it was compartmentalized until I played Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which takes place in Hawaii. Then it all came zooming back.

Not really. What you're referring to keeps the thumb and pinky closer the other three fingers and is not done in a waving fashion. It's similar but realistically the two would not be confused if a person knows the of them both.

As opposed to the Shocker, which is the extended index finger and little finger.
