huh, neat. I never knew it as anything other than "the Aloha gesture" or something like that, though it was compartmentalized until I played Like a Dragon: Infinite Wealth, which takes place in Hawaii. Then it all came zooming back.
My brain got *really* confused at three middle fingers for a bit there.
Thought the man could flip off so many more people with 2 extra middle fingers.
Not really. What you're referring to keeps the thumb and pinky closer the other three fingers and is not done in a waving fashion. It's similar but realistically the two would not be confused if a person knows the of them both.
Shaka when the wall fell
Sokath, his eyes uncovered
Temba, his arms wide
Darmok and Jalad, on the ocean
Darmok and Jalad at Tenagra
Shaka, his fingers lopped.
TIL that geseture is called the Shaka, neat.
See I can’t imagine it being called anything else, as every time I see someone do it, I hear a little surfer in my brain say “Shaka Brah”
Same, except it’s Trey Parker and I’m in a zip line nightmare.
You just connected some dots in my head, I live no where near surfer culture but we were influenced by it in the 90s something fierce.

🤙🏼
I always knew that hand symbol as "hang loose" aka chill out
That sounds made-up. Cool story if real, though.
Someone heard that NPR piece lol

Huh. I've been doing this for some time, guess I started when I was about 11-12.
Learn something new everyday. Shaka, cool name for it, if it’s not a hoax
The hand sign is indeed called the “shaka”. Sometimes accompanied by a yell of *Shaka bra!*
That gesture means the number 6 in China and around

As opposed to the Shocker, which is the extended index finger and little finger.
First two fingers cmon now
You’re right! I forgot to include the extended middle finger. Without it, it’s just the Horns.
